Why is my macbook air not charging?

This started happening about 4 days ago. When i plug the charger into the computer the orange light wouldn't come on and my computer ran out of battery. I left it like that for about 2 hours and checked it afterwards, and when i turned it on it was stuck at 0%. It said on the top that my mac was charging, but it wasn't going up no matter how long i left it there even after i turned it off. I went online and apparently my charger box thing may have been too cold. So i sat on it for about 20 minutes to warm it up and replugged it into the computer and the orange light came on to show that it was charging properly. *yay* After that i could charge it properly up to 100% and use it, but after about 2 days, the orange light wouldn't come back on no matter how much i tried to fix it. Is this a problem with the charger or the computer? Im posting this from my computer on its plug and the light isn't on... The moment i even unplug the screen goes black and it just says i need to plug it in...

Start by troubleshooting the MagSafe charger itself:Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters - Apple Support and also check the condition of your battery in the MBA by going to the apple left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and what does it show for the battery condition, cycle count, capacity?  With the charger plugged in, look lower down at AC Charger Information and see if it shows the charger power and model information.

  • Why is my macbook air not compatible with mountain lion?

When i want to buy montain lion in the app store i get the message that my machine (Macbook air) is not compatible. Why is that and can i do something to solve that problem?

Because your model is old and does not support the 64-bit EFI ROM requirement to install Mountain Lion. If you meet the 2 GB RAM requirements you could install Lion:
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

  • Why will my macbook air not save a word document without word freezing up and not responding?

I recently got a Macbook Air.  Whenever I try to save a word document I get the colored pinwheel.  After the colored pinwheel appears, I go into force quit and see that Microsoft Word is not responding.  This happens every time I try to save a word document.  To test the issue I tried to save a blank word document to see if I was just trying to save too much.  Even with the blank document I got the pinwheel and the application was not responding.  I have had macs before and none of them have had any issues.  Please Help!

Try using Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities folder) to Repair Permissions.

  • Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep?

Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep every time I open it or turn it on? It doesn't happen after again after the initial buzz. If I open it after it has been sleeping, it starts up and then there is a buzz. This has only happened since I downloaded iOS Maverick.

    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • Why is my macbook air so slow?

why is my macbook air so slow?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

why is my MacBook Air running slow and I bought the 11 inch with all memory and turbo boost

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Macbook is not charging , plugged in, no light

My school provided 2.4GHz macbook is not charging but the charger is plugged in correctly, I get no light no orange no green absoloutely nothing happens. I tried using a different charger but that again would not work so I'm assuming its a problem with the macbook its self. THe thing is, is that this macbook is merely 1 year old (it's less than 7 - 8 months! ) and yet it already failed me, extremely disappointed, apple. My school wants to charge me $210 just to replace the whole components at the bottom or w/e ...they didnt even check to see if it could be a broken battery inside or something so I tried to do that but stopped since I found ot that the bottom part of it was all covered in the white plastic - i think the term is unibody. What is wrong with it? On another note, I checked the power cycle count with what little battery I had and it was around 2500 - 3000 and I barely had it for a year! Why is it like this? It was also a refurbished macbook I believe...any help would be appreciated, what can I do ? thanks!

If the MacBook is less than a year old it is still covered by Apple's warranty. Contact Apple using expresslane.apple.com if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider.
It sounds, however, like it may have been refurbished by someone else, and thus not falling under Apple's warranty. Check with your school to see what the coverage is.
You can also check the MacBook's warranty status with Apple here. You'll need your serial number.
    Best of luck.

  • MacBook Air Car Charger?

Does anyone have a practical solution for a MacBook Air car charger? I'm under the impression that the airline adapter will keep it powered while plugged in but won't charge it.

you can use the Power watt 300 inverter, plugs into cigarette lighter and provides an ac outlet
pretty rugged and has a circuit breaker and cutoff so will not drain source to extinction,
works in fairly narrow range of 12 volt sources, such as car batteries or gel cels
will not work with professional film batteries at higher voltages such as 17 volts
one can go 12 volt battery to female car lighter connector to male car lighter connector on inverter to
apple 45watt ac power adapter to magsafe, find for location work but not practical for airplane,

  • MacBook Air not turn on, after hard disk eject, without guarantee

Hello i have two macbook air not turning on,
after ejecting external hard disk, when macbook air is sleeping.
External hardisk ( 2.5 sata) have one ending of USB Type mini-B
and two endings of cable (one for data, other for power), of USB Type A
    After next sequence,
-insert one tail of usb cable into macbook air, the second usb cable into 5v adapter (like iPhone usb adapter)
-after some time macbook air going to sleep
-without waking macbook air, pull out the cable what connected into macbook air
MacBook Air will not turning on.
    even after this instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
In nearest AppleStore they say that there is a problem with logic part of notebook,
And the minimal price of repair will be cost half price of macbook air.
In other words, they say what they will not searching the problem of this,
they only will replace mother board.
Would you suggest other solutions ?
May be somebody else have this problem ?

OK. I wasn't quite sure. So, the first thing to try is Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM followed by Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). If neither can be effected then take it in for service as there has been a serious hardware failure.

  • Macbook air cpu charge is lower than 5%, but temperature is more than 90°C and fans don't speed up ! is it normal ?

    hello,
my macbook air cpu charge is lower than 5% (i.e. no apps are loaded only the finder, istat menu give me a cpu charge near 3%),
but temperature is more than 90°C and fans don't speed up !
    is it normal ?

    It is degrees C.
when the computer has a normal behavour with no CPU charge, its temp is about 35°C
but sometimes temp increase to 90°C and more.
because i don't heard the fan speed increasing (I almost don't heard the fan so i think they should stay at 2000rpm), I'm afraid to burn the CPU and shut down the mac
i didn't let him get hotter.
