Why is my MacBook Pro crashing?

Everytime I go on my MacBook Pro (15" late 2011) after 5 minutes the screen will appear to have white lines going through it horizontally, will have patches of white noise on the screen and will crash and make it unable to use. After a while of this it will log me out and repeat the same process when I log back in. Anyone know how to stop this from happening?

From what you say, it looks like the GPU is damaged. I recommend you to make a backup of your files and take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.

Why does my Macbook Pro crash almost immediately when I'm offline?

My Macbook Pro (late 2007 if i'm right) crashes randomly, whether I'm using a program or not. Suddenly the whole screen freezes (I see a black mouse and not the spinning ball of death). So I'm forced to use the hard restart.
It started a while ago, when I still was using Snow Leopard. So I did a clean install, and had to buy Mountain Lion. Ever since the clean install there were 3 software updates. But still I'm having the crash problem.
After this last update to 10.8.5 I'm noticing that when I turn WiFi off it almost immediately crashes. And sometimes when I reboot I don't have the time to turn on WiFi again or it already has crashed.
Though I remember that my mac also crashed when I was using the ethernet cable and when i was using WiFi. Only now with the offline modus it seems that crashing is the only thing he can do.
This is what I already tried:
-Making a second account as administrator and start up in the safe mode: but still crashes when I go offline.
-using disk utility to veridy and repair disk permissions: all good.
-NVRAM reset
-SMC reset
I don't know what kind of information anyone needs, but:
Processor 2,2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Geheugen 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Videokaart NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB
Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
And my harddrive has 56 gb free right now.

Even though I don't understand the connection between working offline and my videocard I believe you because I see sometimes blocked images when something tries to load or when i scroll down, mostly in photoshop. So I'm considering buying a new computer.
I tested my harddrive a while ago and it still seemed ok. (still i back up all the important stuff constantly).
Though I wanted to ask if you know if the Nvidia is a part of my logic board. I had my logic board replaced in 2010 because of an Nvidia error. So that part isn't that old. Still I can imagine that it doesn't work well anymore with other hardware or software on my computer.

Ok so I pay for the tethering thing for my iphone 4. And when i use bluetooth or wifi it works just fine. But when i connect my iphone to my macbook pro with the usb cable it completely crashes. Thanks for the response. I tried both methods with the same end result.
I'm in safe mode now. It doesnt show up as being plugged in. It worked fine when connected with the USB-I went to disk utilities and repaired the disk.
I tried to plug in with the firewire, again and it shut down my computer..
Any other suggestions?

Hi! So my MacBook Pro (13 in., Late 2011) has been acting strange over the past few months... I usually am using Google Chrome and when I go to a new website, it says in the loading bar, "Loading Catch". I gets stuck doing that so I try quitting the app. Instead, it says force quit. So I press that and then the dock locks up and leaves the chrome icon magnified. I try moving my mouse around but the dock froze. I then try to turn off the computer using normal methods, all of which fail. Then I force shut it off and then restart the computer. It used to happen every so often, to very frequent, like a few times a week. I thought I fixxed the problem by using Disk Utility to repair the HDD (the only problem that it found was that the HDD thought there was less memory available than there really was, like 100 GB less). It then worked fine. A few days later, I updated to mavericks. After I updated to mavericks, I feel like my computer is running out of RAM fast, like on M.L., I always had plenty of RAM available, but with Mavericks, I seem to always have less than 1 GB (btw, I have 4 GB installed). Anyway, the hangups/crashes usually happen a day (or in a rare occasion the same day) after I play a heavy game like Minecraft, Happy Wheels, or RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. I doesn't just happen when I'm using google chrome (although it usually happens while I'm using chrome), it could be any application. The app starts to load something and it takes awhile, so i try to close and reopen the app, and then the computer freezes. So I went to talk to an apple support person on their support chat services, but my support services expired and I would have to pay $19, which I didn't want to do at all. So I came here, so I can try and get answers from here. So if someone could please help me, that would be great! Thanks!!!

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.

WHY does my Macbook Pro (mid 2012) always slow to crawl when I wake it up and go online???

I wake up my Macbook Pro (sweetly tell it that I love it)
click on one of the 1-10 tabs I have open in Firefox or Safari
Click on iTunes (open already) to play some tunes
Wait
Wait while the little ball spins as my browser thinks
wait a bit more
finally the tab I click on comes to the front, but the page takes 15-60 seconds to load
I proceed feeling irritated

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

2.4 GHz intel Core2 Duo
4BB 1067 MHz DDR3
OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
I turned it on and I went to safari to look things up. Safari froze and then the whole thing became unresponsive - the mouse could move the cursor but it couldn't open any programmes.
Tried safe boot several times. No help.
Tried to repair disc permissions. The first time it got a little way then said 'user stopped repair' or something - though I didn't touch it. Tried again it got all the way through and said 'repairs complete'. But no help.
Couldn't clear cache etc as couldn't get to the relevant part to do it.
Opened in single user mode. Ran the fsck -fy thing twice. First time it said both “The volume appears to be OK” AND “FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED.” In 2nd run it just said “The volume appears to be OK”. No help.
Booted it up from the Superduper bootable backup version on a USB external drive. It seemed to boot up ok but then tried to click on something and the same thing happened - spinning beach ball and it just hung.
Erased hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard but it just does the same thing. Suggesting a hardware issue not software but...the Eerie thing is, we tried backup version on boyfriends Mac Pro and it worked fine on there but 24hrs later his Mac Pro has got exactly the same screen freezing, unresponsive issue. Could this suggest there's something evil lurking on my back up? Can't get an appointment at Genius Bar until next week and need to get some work done, so hoping someone might have some ideas?

If you subscribed to iTunes match the songs are kept in icloud. If you didn't but you did save the actual iTunes library folder which should include the music, video, etc. you should be able to just drag this file back to your machine in the same place and when you open iTunes it will give you a chance to identify the iTunes library folder.
You can test this to find out if you saved the media files or not and don't need to attach your nano to do it.
You are correct that once you connect the nano it will clear the existing files from it and sync it with the new iTunes library.
If you don't have the media files i'm not sure if/how to get them back on a windows ipod. I have everything backed up regularly because of the horror stories I have seen & heard.

When my girlfriend and I are trying to watch a movie on Netflix together while on FaceTime my MacBook Pro always decreases the volume of any background sound on my computer so I can barely hear it. Have the same issue too. Apple can you please change this annoying feature. You are making long distance relationships more difficult.
I like how Facetime was with the old iOS, where nothing was dimmed. OR at least maybe if you could give users the option to turn on or off dimming of facetime.

I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.

Why does my Macbook pro get hot while I am only on my email account? This is a recent change. It gets too hot too put in my lap. Is it a battery issue.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Why Does Retina MacBook Pro (2012) Suddenly Hibernate With Lid Open?

I'd like to know why my Retina MacBook Pro (2012) at certain times suddenly go into Hibernate mode when I'm actively using it with the lid open and what I can do to prevent this.
I know this is hibernate because of what I see in the Console logs and the fact that I can't trigger a wake by using the keyboard/trackpad/mouse. Only the power button causes it to wake up.
This usually happens when I wake it from sleep and plug it into an external monitor via HDMI to HDMI connection.   The lid is open and I use both displays.    This happens about 30 seconds to a minute after I wake from sleep. At the time I'm not plugged into the power supply because I believe it's generally a good idea to let the batter drain and the recharge it. The last time this happened it was about 35% to 40% charged.

This happened again at about 31% power, again unplugged.   Previously, I had plugged in the power before pressing the power button, but this time I pressed the power button before plugging in. The display showed me the out of power icon. Only on plugging it back in was I able to power up the laptop again.
Is it possible there's a bug either with the displayed power or how remaining power is detected?
