Why is my macbook pro making a click sound?

I've only brought it about 4 or 5 weeks ago and today I've just heard a like a really faint rattle like click sound?
if i put my ear to it it sounds like its coming from the fan?
i havent dropped it or damaged it so what could it be?
hope theres nothing wrong with it i didn't pay £2,000 for nothing.
(btw I'm no where near an apple store)

It would be helpful if you indicated what model MBP you have.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro making a "clicking" sound effect?

Ever since i updated my MacBook Pro with Mavericks OS, I keep hearing a clicking sound effect randomly throughout use; even if I am not in a program.  What is this and what can I do about it?

  • Macbook pro making strange click sound

    Hi.
I have a macbook pro from 2008 running os x 10.6.8 and it has recently started making a strange zapping sound from the speakers. I've searched the forum for answers but nothing seems to quite fit the bill. It seems to happen when I'm running safari although I haven't done a thorough check with which programs it does it. Also when I plug in my apogee duet interface it still makes the noise from my external speakers. I've done a check on the hard drive and it came out green so fingers crossed it's not that.
I'm not sure if it's consequential or not but I use logic a lot and I'm prone to using a lot of plugins son I'm used to the 'system too slow message' but now, often when the computer can't process it and it give me that message it comes with a loud pop aswell, something that never used to happen and I'm sure is not doing any good to my speakers. Sometimes the pop repeats intermittently until I play audio.
Please any help would be great, I've very worried as my beloved computer is getting old now and I can't afford a new one.
    Thank you.

You didn't get a new battery?  No way, was I going to leave the repair shop w/o  a new battery to replace the expanding one.
What did the AS say about the sounds you are hearing from your MBP?  Was diagnostics done?  If not, you need to get a second opinion from another AS or an AASP.  There is nothing anyone here can add.  Your MBP needs to be physically examined fully.

  • Why is my macbook pro making a type sound but not typing the letters

I was typing on my macbook pro when all of a sudden the keyboard stopped working. It makes a type sound that it didn't make before, but it won't type any letters. However, when I did a restart, I could type in my password. What's wrong with the keyboard?

  • Why does my MacBook Pro make a clicking noise when i lift it up.

Hi i just recently got a MacBook Pro. I get this weird clicking noise from the right side of the trackpad. I don't know why its doing this noise but i think its got something to do with the superdrive or cd drive. This only happens when i pick it up or rotate it around on my lap.

Just to clarify... and in case you're not familiar with how hard drives work... There are metal platters in your hard drive that spin at either 5400 or 7200 times per minute (that's either 90 or 120 times per second respectively). There is a little read head that floats less than a papers width above that super fast spinning platter. If you bump your computer while the read/write head is over the platter, there is a chance it can bump into the spinning platter causing permanent damage to it. As a result, hardware manufacturers have developed ways to lock the head when a "sudden motion" is detected in order to reduce the chance of damage. In some cases (like the MacBooks), it is built into the notebook itself... in other cases, the technology is built into the drive. The clicking you hear, as others have indicated, is the sound of the drive head locking... it's a good thing.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro making a constant whirring sound?

I've reset the SMC, run all the diagnostics possible, made sure there are no runaway apps, and restarted my computer. Nothing has helped. I've had it for less than six months. This hasn't happened before. It isn't over heated. It started whirring before I even started using any apps. I've been troubleshooting for over an hour and nothing is helping. What's going on?

  • Why is my MacBook pro making a beeping noise when I turn it on with no screen showing?

My MacBook pro turned on fine until here was a bunch of numbers showing on the screen and told me to shut it down so I did. When I waited 15 seconds I tried turning it on again and now every time I try to turn it on it makes a beeping sound and won't show a screen. It will just keep beeping until I turn it back off. I have only had it for two weeks so idk what the problem is.

The FINDER HELP section titled 'If you hear beeps when your computer starts up'  suggests that you take your MBP to an Apple Store or an authorized service facility.  The following leads you to an Apple Support article germain to your problem:  https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547.

  • 17" Macbook Pro Noise & Trackpad Click Sound

    Hi all,
I just got a new 17" MBP delivered from Apple, its a fantastic computer. I've upgraded from a Titanium Powerbook.
I notice when I move the new Macbook I hear a sound like a light saber from the left side, very low, its only apparent when the device is tilted, I assume its the HD, (I haven't installed the ssd in my signature yet, so still on the 7200 stock HD), is this normal, I never heard it from my Powerbook?
Also the trackpad click noise and feel are not the same as the ones in my local apple supplier, I have a noticeable click sound pressing the trackpad, and some slight resistance before the click engages, but the store ones I tried have no resistance before the click engaging and there is no audiable click from the trackpad. Is this because mine is new? Will mine go "soft" like the store models I tried?

    Hi,
Regarding the "click" sound: as was already mentioned, there should be some click and resistance in your trackpad, specifically as you move down the pad from top to bottom. If you're convinced that these are more audible and resistant than they should be, you may be right: when I first got a unibody MacBook in early 2007, I had to return it to the Mac Store immediately because of a similar problem, and they ended up replacing the entire chassis as a result. Unfortunately, the same problem ended up coming back again, and I obstinately decided to live with it instead of doing the right thing and having it fixed, so I dealt with a progressively loud trackpad for the next few years.
My advice: if it doesn't feel right, make an appointment with your nearest Mac Store and have them look at it. It won't cost you anything, and the worst that can happen is that they tell you it's fine (which you can again verify while at the same store by trying other machines of the same make and model).

  • Why ismy mac book pro making a beeping sound every few minutes?

My mac book pro 13" is making a strange sound evefy few minutes.  It sounds like a rock being dropped in a pond. I replaced a faulty hard drive recently and I wonder if it is related to that issue.

A rock being dropped in a pond is not a beeping sound. Which one is it?

  • Why is MACBook Pro making noises that I can't identify?

Why is MACBook Pro making noises that I can't identify?

It would help if you could describe the noise...does it sound like a clicking, or rubbing, or hum?  Where does it sound like it is originating?  When does it make the sound?
