Why is my MacBook Pro's boot up time almost a minute?

It takes my late 2008 MacBook Pro about 56 seconds to boot up. Is there any way to speed up the process? Keep in mind it recently just had a fresh install of OS X Mavericks, so there isn't that much on here to slow it down.

Alright, here are the results:

  • Why does my MacBook pro keep beeping 3 times. The screen is frozen.

Like my MacBook Pro keeps beeping 3 times and pausing for 2 seconds. The screen is frozen.  How do I fix this and what is going on?

That is  a RAM issue, do you have any spare ram you can swap to confirm?  Possible causes:
    a ram module going bad
    installation of incompatible ram
your ram may have become dislodged
    I would suggest:
    - removing all ram from your MBP, and reinstall it to see if that helps.
    - if you recently installed new ram, remove it, then restart the computer with  the old ram to see if this helps.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro not boot up with the Snow Leopard Disk?

I have erased the entire hard drive on a 2011 macbook pro that had snow leopard on it. I was corrupted. I not insert my Snow Leopard Disk and the machine will not boot. I chose target mode to erase the hard drive from my mac book pro with Mt. Lion on it.
    Thank uou for any help,
    Ken

Target mode?  Is there a second computer involved?  Why not insert the Snow Leopard disc in the computer on which you wish to install and hold down the C key to boot from it?
If the disc came with a different computer it will not boot another model.  Retail discs also may not boot all model computers, even those that came with the same major version.  For example, some MBPs came with 10.6.6 but a retail disc may only be 10.6.3.

  • 15" MacBook Pro only boots some times with SuperTalent 256GB SSD

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and it works as it should. I put an SSD in an external enclosure then plugged it into a USB port and cloned my MacBook Pro's drive to it. It worked and boots and runs from that external drive, wither via USB or Firewire.
Next I installed the SSD inside the MacBook Pro and it will only successfully boot one out of 5 times or so, it is random. When it does boot it works fast and well. I can put it to Sleep and wake it later and it is still working correctly. But why will it only boot one in 5 times or so?
It will always get the gray apple and usually the spinning gear but if the gear lasts more than a few seconds it will not boot regardless of how long you let it try.
I have tried OS 10.5.7 and 10.5.8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go read the topic with 71 pages about the Macbook Pro and SATA II. It is more than likely due to the latest firmware update that Apple released than crippled MANY hard drives.

  • Why does my MacBook Pro's battery only lasting about 30 minutes since upgrading to OS 10.8?

I had absolutely no battery issues with my new MacBook Pro 15 inch until I upgraded to the new OS Mountain Lion. Now, my laptop is hot—CPU Heatsink, 135 degrees, and enclosure base 93-95 degrees. Additionally, the battery now only lasts about 30-45 minutes on a full charge due to the fans running from 2000 to 3500 RPMs. Someone else have the same issues?

Is the 135 degrees Celsius?  If so, that is very hot indeed.  Fans always run at a minimum of 2000 RPM. At this temp, fans should be running at something like 6000 RPM!  Something is heating up your computer.  In Activity Monitor, with "All Processes" selected, which processes are using the most CPU, and how much are they using?
If the temperature is in Farenheit, this is not so very hot and the problem with your battery is elsewhere.
Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller ... ?

  • Why Does Retina MacBook Pro (2012) Suddenly Hibernate With Lid Open?

I'd like to know why my Retina MacBook Pro (2012) at certain times suddenly go into Hibernate mode when I'm actively using it with the lid open and what I can do to prevent this.
I know this is hibernate because of what I see in the Console logs and the fact that I can't trigger a wake by using the keyboard/trackpad/mouse.  Only the power button causes it to wake up.
This usually happens when I wake it from sleep and plug it into an external monitor via HDMI to HDMI connection.   The lid is open and I use both displays.    This happens about 30 seconds to a minute after I wake from sleep.  At the time I'm not plugged into the power supply because I believe it's generally a good idea to let the batter drain and the recharge it.  The last time this happened it was about 35% to 40% charged.
    Hardware Overview:

Is it possible there's a bug either with the displayed power or how remaining power is detected?

My Macbook Pro retina boots up very slow (6 minutes) after updating to mountain lion 10.8.4. I already did a clean install, after that the boot up time was 40-50 seconds but immediately after doing the update it boots up in 6 minutes again. when i just bought it it booted up in 20 seconds or so, i would really like it to be that fast again! does anybody know if this is a known bug or is it just me?

  • Why does my MacBook Pro and Mac Pro keep freezing?

Why does my MacBook Pro freeze?
    MacBook Pro
    2.4 GHz intel Core2 Duo
    4BB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
I turned it on and I went to safari to look things up. Safari froze and then the whole thing became unresponsive - the mouse could move the cursor but it couldn't open any programmes.
Tried safe boot several times. No help.
Tried to repair disc permissions. The first time it got a little way then said 'user stopped repair' or something  - though I didn't touch it. Tried again it got all the way through and said 'repairs complete'. But no help.
Couldn't clear cache etc as couldn't get to the relevant part to do it.
Opened in single user mode. Ran the fsck -fy thing twice. First time it said both “The volume appears to be OK” AND “FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED.” In 2nd run it just said  “The volume appears to be OK”. No help.
Booted it up from the Superduper bootable backup version on a USB external drive. It seemed to boot up ok but then tried to click on something and the same thing happened - spinning beach ball and it just hung.
Erased hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard but it just does the same thing. Suggesting a hardware issue not software but...the Eerie thing is, we tried backup version on boyfriends Mac Pro and it worked fine on there but 24hrs later his Mac Pro has got exactly the same screen freezing, unresponsive issue. Could this suggest there's something evil lurking on my back up? Can't get an appointment at Genius Bar until next week and need to get some work done, so hoping someone might have some ideas?
    Cheers
    Kerry

... does Apple products work much better with using Apple routers?
While a genuine Apple router is likely to result in success, the reason for having one instead of another product is that it eliminates a lot of uncertainty. For example, we do not know the model D-Link product you have so no one is in position to speculate what the problem might be. Also, it makes support on this forum easier since there are only three AirPort models to choose from and they all work more or less the same.
Generally speaking your iPods, iPads, MacBooks, and AppleTV ought to work with any router though, provided it is fairly recent and meets accepted industry standards. If in doubt you can purchase an AirPort Base Station, which comes with 90 days of free telephone support. If it does not result in any improvement for you, you can always return it for a complete refund. The return period is 14 days and be sure to keep all material - receipt, box, manuals, etc...
If you elect this option be sure to follow its installation instructions, the most important of which is to power down your modem prior to connecting the AirPort Extreme, Express, or Time Capsule. All your other equipment will need their network settings adjusted to "forget" the D-Link network and connect to the new one.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

  • Why does my macbook pro retina display shutdown while entering the administer account

why does my macbook pro retina display shutdown while entering the administer account

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro 2.33 so hot and why are my fans on so high?

So, I'm sitting here with just Safari 3.1.1 open with just this single page, nothing else running on my machine, 3GB of RAM, and activity monitor reports a total 3.5% CPU usage. Why is my Macbook Pro hot like it's really working (not something-is-broken hot, just the temperature I'd expect with Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash all open at the same time) and why are the fans running like a jet engine?
No weird errors in the console, Spotlight isn't indexing, nothing special in the Dashboard, lots of spare space on the HD, permissions repaired, disks have been checked, I turned off icon previewing on the desktop, top doesn't report anything more than Activity Monitor does -- it really seems like my machine is genuinely wheezing at 3.5%. I was just asked if I wouldn't mind working in another room because my machine is so noisy. You heard me right, my Macbook Pro is getting me kicked out of places.
I've put up with the clump of dead pixels, airport connection issues, now-useless DVD burner that an Apple update bricked, and early battery death, but this one is just boggling. If anyone has any advice I'd be grateful.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you have iStatPro? You can download it from the Apple site and see what it is that is running so hot. Under the low usage you describe, the fans should be idling silently. And you might be able to tell what is getting so hot.
If Activity Monitor doesn't show anything, then you might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test. It sounds like something is getting very hot. If there is a hardware problem, then you should get one or more error codes. The Apple Hardware Test is on Install Disc #1 of the gray discs that came with your Mac--you boot to it by holding down "D". Instructions are on the disc and on the screen.
Also, be sure you have "All Processes" selected on the Activity Monitor. And the boxes at the bottom should be mostly black with very little red or green at 3.5% CPU usage. Given all the symptoms, I am surprised that there is not some process running amok in the background.
    Good luck!

Need a few more details.  When you say not starting, do you mean you are unable to power up from a shut down?  Or do you mean when you turn your computer on, you get either the grey screen, blue screen or just the spinning wheel?

Are you saying that your os is Tiger 10.4?    If that is the case, have you tried booting up from your system disc?
