Why is my macbook Slow and fan always running

I recently upgraded to Mavericks, and since then my computer has been slow and lagging a lot. I see the perpetual spinning beach ball more than I would like. I have done everything I can think of within my knowledge to rectify the problem but it still seems slow to me. I have unistalled apps, cleared caches, run an antivirus, run onyx and cleanmymac applications. I don't know what else I can do. I also find that my fan is running constantly and when I look at the activity monitor nothing is eating my CPU, in fact it is always below 10%. Here is my most recent Etrescheck. PLEASE HELP!! Installing CleanMyMac will corrupt your system. I know of no way to recover from its effects other than to reinstall OS X and other essential software. "Essential" is defined to specifically exclude CleanMyMac as well as all similarly ill-conceived "cleaning" products that are likely to have similar effects. Never install such junk on a Mac.
Erasing your Mac will have the benefit of eradicating it, the useless Avast garbage, and Internet Plug-Ins as well.
You are likely to need more memory. 2 GB is barely sufficient to run any OS later than Snow Leopard. Your MacBook can address as much as 8 GB and I recommend at least 4 GB.

My macbook pro is about 8 months old. This week after loading Office for Mac my machine's fan started running a LOT more at high speeds. I've looked in the activity monitor and there are many, many items running but none seem to be taking up a lot of memory or cpu activity. Today things really slowed down and although simple apps like Excel or Safari don't hang-up, they take forever to work. Any ideas?

yeah, i my skype raises the cpu to 100% and i cant do anything. there is no real advice on what to do and it really pisses me off because it was running really well. my computer isnt good but previously i could play games like l4d2 on max settings and be in skype and stuff but now i cant even play youtube videos if im in a call. i really need a fix for this. im sorry but i have a windows computer so it isnt really the same but as frustrating!

Currently I have my macbook on a clean desk with good ventilation, but my fan always runs, even if there are no programs open. I've reset the SMC, and checked that theres no printing jobs in the printing queue but no luck. I've had this macbook for about a year and a half and have used it a ton since then. I have the same problem on my late 2008 Macbook white 2.1 GHz Intel duo, running 10.5.8. I had read in another post here that I should check Activity Monitor and I did so. The first time I tried, as soon as I launched AM the fan stopped. I then left AM open and the next time the fan started (I was online, doing nothing in particular - I did have 4 or 5 panels open though) I checked AM and the process that came at the top of the list with 90-odd CPU usage was kernel_task. I quit AM and then launched it again and the fan stopped, with kernel_task taking up about 2% of the CPU and Safari around 30%.
What's going on? Hardware? Software?

Use Activity Monitor to keep an eye on your disk use and memory use. You may hear different figures, but I like to see my free disk and free memory above 25%. Sometimes all it takes is a Restart. Try to minimize the number of browser windows you have open at once. Quit unused applications.
Many of us in this discussion area like to use OnyX periodically. It clears caches and repairs permissions, etc. You can download it from this site. Be sure to download the one for the OS version you are using. There is a script called Automation within OnyX that allows you to start it and come back later when it's done with several actions.

My Final Cut X changed behaviour after conneting the external monitor via HDMI. Several times after restarting Final Cut X was very slow and it always kept repeating rendering on same three clips after every restart. Later the dual screen icon disapeared on the top of my screen and it stops rendering on every restart like before and the machine was normal and faster. Now Final Cut won't start anymore whenever I start it loads and crushes immediately on every restart.

I thought the backup whilst asleep was only used on Mountain Lion.. but perhaps it was also introduced with Lion.. anyway it is only enabled on later firmware.. in latest laptops.

Why the video is slow and stutter when I drag the mouse on the cursor to check from left to right?
I just upgraded to imac 20" and I had never had this problem with my old mac. The old mac seemed to be smoother than this one.
The only difference was my 1 TB external hardrive is linkup using USB 2.0 this time round since I've not purchased the Firewire 800 yet. Does using USB 2.0 cause this problem?

I noticed something from my previous iMac. When I drag the cursor from left to right, there is no sound when I'm dragging. Thus, that makes me think that the absence of audio produce smoother flow. How do I disable the audio while I'm working on the viewer then?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
