Why is my magic mouse scrolling backwards?

I've updated to 10.7.3 and now I have to scroll down to scroll up, and up to scroll down. Very weird!
Please help.

Look at the setting in System Preferences > Mouse > Scroll Direction Natural.
Change it for the opposite preference.

  • My magic mouse scrolls backwards with Lion

After upgrading to Lion the up and down movements on my Magic Mouse are backwards. I move my finger down and the page goes up, and the reverse is true when motioning up.

See "magic mouse scrolls in reverse/backwards" for the answer.

  • Why is my wireless mouse scrolling backward

I upgraded to Lion. Now my mouse scrolls backward. Anyone know why?

That does not appear to be the usual Mouse prefs window in Lion. Don't have a clue why that would be.
This is what it looks like on mine -
However, the equivalent to the 'inverted/natural' choice would probably be the first item, "Move content...." - try unchecking that one.

  • I downloaded the new OS X 10.9.2 and ever since then my magic mouse works backwards

I downloaded the new OS X 10.9.2 and ever since the upgrade, my apple magic mouse scrolls backwards. I want to scroll up, I have to move my finger down and vise versa/side to side. Is there a way to re-program it? If not, is there a software upgrade, if so where can I get it? Thanks!

I have it set to natural but it's working the opposite.
Actually, that's correct.  "Natural" is the opposite of the "normal" scrolling that you would be accustomed to, so it's working just as it should.  To get "normal" scrolling back, just uncheck the "scroll direction: natural" checkbox and you should be good.
Personally, I like to have it both ways.  The system settings are global and affect all mousing peripherals.  I used a menubar app called Scroll Reverser.  This allows me to, simultaneously, use the "natural" scrolling with my trackpad (which I've grown to like) and "normal" scrolling with my mouse.

  • Anyone else have a problem with Magic mouse scroll after Maverick update?

Now I have upgraded to Maverick (among other minor things) my Magic Mouse scroll often doesnt work unless I close the application it stopped working in and open it again.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? was there any worthwhile reason to update?

  • TS2662 my new magic mouse scrolling & swiping will not work

my new magic mouse scrolling & swiping will not work. Help??

I had this happen to me as well. just last week (july 28, 2014) I brought my magic mouse from home to work since my work mouse was going south. paired it with bluetooth, it moved and clicked but no scroll or gestures. searched till I nearly ready to give up. then I installed USB overdrive. many forum posts said too remove that. I didn't have it, so I installed it. and then un-installed it.  everything works great now.
    hope this helps someone.

  • Mouse scrolling backwards

Did anyone experience your mouse scrolling backwards after the upgrade?

This was changed in 10.8, I believe. You can reverse it (if you want to), in System Preferences - Trackpad - Scroll/Zoom - turn off "Scroll direction: natural".
The "natural" scroll motion mimics what happens when you scroll on an iOS device such as an iPad.

  • Why has my magic mouse suddenly stopped working? I'm using 10.6.8

Why has my magic mouse suddenly stopped working? I'm using 10.6.8

We can't know. You have not told us what exactly the problem is. If there are any warnings, you need to provide them along with other info like the crash logs. If not you have to explain the situation in more detail. Just saying that it doesn't work anymore is not particularly useful.

  • Why does my magic mouse button and scroll surface not work?

My MacBook Air 13" ran out of power before I could connect it to a power source. After I was able to power it on again, the Magic Mouse button and scrolling surface could no longer work even though I could still use the optical pointer below to move the cursor. How can I restore the button and scrolling surface. Have tried powering down and up both the MacBook Air as well as the mouse. Also tried unpairing and re-pairing both but nothing works so far. Thanks.

Have you tried to edit your settings in Apple menu -> System preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse?

  • Why won't my magic mouse scroll on 10.7.3?

My magic mouse has stopped scrolling out of the blue.  I've taken a look at all preferences, restarted, shut down, etc. and can't seem to re-enable.

Curious.  I've seen conflicts with the PrefPanes when USBoverdrive was installed.  Normally the Mouse preference pane doesn't show the Magic Mouse options.
Try trashing the mouse preference file located in
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist
~ is your home folder name.
Your home folder library is hidden by default in Lion but can be reached by starting a Finder window and then on the Menubar,   Finder > Go > hold the Option key down > select Library.  In the resulting screen find the Preferences folder and drag the file above to your desktop.
Restart.   OSx will create a new Preference List with default settings so you might have to visit any custom settings and reset them.

Multiple mice/mouses that I have used on my MacBookPro scroll backward since installing OSX Lion. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for your help I unchecked the block that said "Move content in the direction of finger movement..." and that fixed the problem.

  • Magic Mouse Scroll Fail

    Hi,
I have just bought a Magic Mouse, and am trying to install it. My MBP recognizes it, I can move the cursor and have use of the buttons, however I cant scroll. At All.
When I go into System Preferences>Mouse, I only have two sliders, Tracking Speed & Double Click Speed. When I click on 'Setup Bluetooth Mouse' it just says 'No Mouse Found' while the searching wheel continuously spins.
Im running Snow Leopard, and my previous Mighty Mouse worked fine until the scrollball called it quits, which is why i bought a new magic mouse, which doesnt scroll.....

If you are running 10.6 like your profile says, you need the Magic Mouse Software Update for Snow Leopard.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL950
The link above requires you to have 10.6.1 before installing the update so you might want to just move up to 10.6.2
You can update your machine to 10.6.2 and change your profile also.

  • Magic mouse forward backward swiping does not work from time to time

    Hello...
from time to time the forward/backward swiping functionality of my magic mouse does not work (The scrolling works though). Disconnecting and reconnecting does not do the trick. So I guess it might be a software problem. Restarting the iMac does not always help at once. After a couple of times it will work though again.
    Can anyone help?

  • Desktop slides mouse scrolls backward!

My desktop will suddenly slide off to the left when I am working on the internet for instance.  To get it back I have to click on the bar at the bottom...and it slides back on the screen.  At the same time my mouse is scrolling backwards! It is driving me crazy.  If I want to go to the bottom of a page I have to swipe up, and to go up, down.
I use a magic mouse, OS Lion, which I just installed over Snow Lepard, and Mozilla- which also just did an update!
    HELP I am going nuts!!!
    Thanks

Ok I know now that the problem did start with the upgrade to Lion!
I had to go to the apple, system preferences, mouse and more gestures...to stop the scrolling issue I had to Uncheck scroll direction "natural" (really?? it is backwards), it actually shows a picture
And Uncheck swipe between full screen apps, and this is because I always use 2 fingers to swipe instead of one.  If you only swipe with one you are ok...you can leave it checked.

  • My magic mouse scrolling is stuttering in safari 5.0.5. Can anyone help?

    Hi all,
This has been a problem for a while now but am finally getting around to do something about it. I've increasingly noticed that when scrolling in Safari 5.0.5 it becomes stuttery/jittery using the magic mouse.
I've updated everything (OS, updates etc...) to the latest versions, have plenty of space left on my HD.
Does anyone have suggestions to get it fixed? Smooth scrolling is selected in mouse preferences.
    Kind regards,
    Jack

Same problem here. As well, every few minutes, the mouse doesn't scroll at all until I've scrolled up and down two or three times. Other forums have posts about this problem, too. Things that didn't help:
    • quitting/restarting Safari
    • restarting
    • resetting PRAM
    • turning off smooth scrolling
    The problem occurs independently of:
    • Flash websites
    • complex pages
    • currently loading pages (active, or background tabs)
    • any other wireless activity
