Why is my MBP battery is giving me only 3 hours?

i have a macbook pro 2012 2.3 Ghz with Mountain Lion .1
so i heard that the 10.8.1 upgrade would repair the battery issue, i dont see any fix with the battery.
is anyone having the same problems with 10.8.1 too?
what can i do for the battery? is there a code that i should write in terminal or something??
im using the darkest configuration of the screen with mute!!!!
this upgrade is soo ridiculous!!!

try these:
turn your keyboard lights off or down to 1 bar.
turn off bluetooth if you don't need it.
turn off automatic brightness
open activity monitor - under all processes - see what apps you've got open and using 10% and above on your %CPU section - anything running around 10% and higher will cause your battery to drain faster.

  • Why does my iPhone 5 battery runs dead after only 5 hours in standby?

My brand new iPhone 5 runds completely dead after only 5 hours standby.
I might have done 2 or 3 calls, I switched off all the apps that are running in the background.
Wifi and bluetooth are on, and should stay on.
My old iPhone4 could work almost 2 days without recharging....
I have looked at different blogs and websites and set most of those tips and tricks, but without success... my phone is 1 day old and already synced....
Is there something big that I'm overlooking?

also recalibrate the battery, let if fully drain to where your phone shuts off and then fully charge it without using it.

That listed 7 hours is with very limited use. Low screen brightness, low keyboard backlight, No WiFi or bluetooth.
Most I have ever gotten from my 15" 2011 model is around 5-6 hours and that was with very light use. Just Web, Chrome, and email, thunderbird, and Wifi.

  • MBP Battery capacity ?

    Hi..
I bought MBP 15" on December in Thailand. Everything was fine and on June I found out the full charged Battery capacity was reducing from 5500mAh to 5320mAh. Every time I charged the battery the capacity seemed going down. I went to talk with apple center and a week later they replaced me a new battery which has 5520mAh(brand new battery). So, it's May 1st and it has only 12 charge cycles and now max battery capacity shows "5233mAh". Damnn second time and I went to the store again and they said... wait until it drops to 80% and they will replace it for me and yes by looking me with weird eyes. They said all the MBP batteries are always like this. What is this? Can't I have the right to replace with this god **** failure?

Take a look at this link. This guy's battery capacity I've never seen this good condition before. >>>5813mAh 9months<<<
Calibration? Reset? My battery doesn't seems to appreciate those.
any suggestion please? so... should I have to wait till it drops to 80%? This ain't right. What should I do?

" Lithium-Polymer batteries will lose capacity with each charge cycle. After about 500 charge cycles (on average) the battery will need to be replaced. "
hmm.. I do understand now that Lithium-polymer batteries will lose capacity with each charge cycle like you said. But can you try to think again that my battery charge cycle has only 12 times and it dropped to 5233mAh from 5520mAh (2months). Isn't it too fast? so.. technically when I reach another 12 times and all together 24charge cycles my battery capacity would be around 4800+ mAh?

I do understand this guy because his battery has 123 charge cycles + nine months
why I'm so sure of this because I do notice that every time I charge my MBP... the battery drops like 30mAh each cycle.
    Thank you

  • MBP 15'' 2011 battery lasts only 3 hours!

    Hi
I bought MBP 2011 15 inch last week and received it on Monday.
    My configs are
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
and I also upgraded to high resolution.
So far, I'm pretty much enjoying my new MBP
But I have one main concern with my new laptop's battery time.
The battry time is really really short!
When I first turned it on, it took 3 hours to drain the battery. (starting from 98% or so)
And I did calibration thing so that the battery runs more "efficiently"
Of course, I didn't expect that calibration would make the battery last longer, but no matter what,
I only get 3 hours of battery life and I'm not even doing something that would drain my battery fast.
I just do simple web surfing and word documenting on about 30-40% brightness (or even lower sometimes)
And I get only 3 hours of bettery time.
So is this because my MBP has four i7 cores or or what?
Previous MBP 15'' models seem to last at least around 5 hrs doing exactly same thing.
And considering that I have been using my MBP only for 5 days or so, I'm worried that the battery life will become even less!
    Maybe like 2 hrs?
Is this a particular issue with my laptop, that I can return and exchange to new model or get fixed without fees?
Or is it just built this way that all the MBP 2011 15'' models have this kind of short battery life?

OMG turning off the Bluetooth just gave me like extra 3 hours of battey time! (6 hrs total)
I didn't even know it was turned on in the first place because I never touched it.
I guess bluetooth is on as a default setting.
Thank you so much for advice.
I feel so stupid, but please be understanding since it's actually my first MacBook.
But I'm really glad to find out that I was wasting battery with bluetooth on, and now I can get better battery time.
    Thanks once again!

  • Why isn't my iPad 2 giving me alerts for my all-day events?

Why isn't my iPad 2 giving me alerts for my all-day events?  I have alerts set-up for 2 days prior.  My alerts work for other calendar entries where they are set-up for 15mins prior.

The laptop has a more powerful wifi radio then the iPad. Try getting closer to the location where iPad can connect.

  • Why is my MBP serial number and model year no longer displayed in "about this mac" (have NOT replaced logic board)?

I have not replaced or manipulated the logic board (or any other hardware) on my mid-2012 13 inch MBP. Under the "about this mac" tab, the serial number is no longer displayed (it now states "unavailable") and the model year is also no longer displayed. I understand that I can find the serial number and model year several other ways, I am seeking to determine why this happened and if it could indicate further problems.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you in advance for any help or insight.
    JB

Man oh man. What a day. New symptoms again!
Lets start with the MBP dying in its sleep. I closed my MBP and left it for a few hours to come back to find it completely dead. Looked into this issue and with the help of the activity monitor cleaned up some things, turned off some sharing settings, got rid of some extensions, etc. Seems to have solved this issue.
Later on, I picked up my MBP while it was on with my left hand and the same display (horizontal lines), freeze, auto shutdown happened. Out of curiosity I tried to recreate the symptom. Sure enough, pressing (with little force) on the left side of the bottom case caused it to happen again. I researched this a bit and found several possible culprits (bad logic board, metallic sticker may cause shorts, bad RAM bank, google drive). The google drive one really surprised me, I removed google drive (worked for many people) and it did not fix the issue. A buddy had some good RAM for me to use today so I swapped it out and had the same issue. Decided to test the individual RAM banks and it turns out that the deepest bank must be faulty. Running with only one 4 gig stick in the outermost bank and the freeze, shutdown, beep issue is gone!
So, it seems I have fixed the dying in sleep problem and have a temporary work-around for the bad RAM bank. The SN issue remains.
I am going to try to find out what could make a RAM bank be faulty and if there is a way to repair it.
What are the chances that all this happens as soon as I try to find out why the SN is unavailable??
Below is the thread that I found interesting and useful.

  • WHY DOES IT SAY BATTERY NOT CHARGING WHEN I TRY TO CHARGE MY IPAD??

WHY DOES IT SAY BATTERY NOT CHARGING WHEN I TRY TO CHARGE MY IPAD ???

How are you trying to charge it, via a computer or the wall plug ? If a computer, then a lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.
If the wall charger then have you tried a reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If that doesn't work then have you tried a different charger and/or cable ? Do you know anybody else with an iPad so that you can try their charger and cable and they can try yours ?
And for info typing in capitals is considered SHOUTING.

  • Apple employee: Does AppleCare covers a short-lifed MBP battery?

If AppleCare does cover, to what extent ? for example, will apple replace my MBP battery for free if it drops to 80% of the original capacity, in one year? any restrictions on the replacement, such as 300 battery load cycles?
Thank you, i hope to see definitive answers!

You're not very likely to get an Apple employee to answer here, as these are user-to-user forums. (It does happen on rare occasion, but it truly is rare.)
From watching the notebook forums here for a few years, I'd say this: Apple is vague on this subject. Your best bet, if you feel your battery isn't working as it should now or some months down the road, is simply to call AppleCare and negotiate what you can. Reports vary, and your mileage may vary based on who you talk to and how you present your case. (You can at least change who you talk to if you're not satisfied with the initial answer. Ask to speak to a supervisor or, if necessary, to Apple Customer Relations if you feel you're not getting the warranty service you deserve.)
Sorry I can't give more definitive answers, but it's one of those issues that doesn't have a definitive answer, unfortunately. You'll get a variety of responses from people here, all reporting different experiences. Ultimately, the answer is simply, "Call Apple and find out."
All that said, if the situation is extreme and obviously points to a defective battery, such as only getting one hour of charge from a calibrated battery that is only a month old, you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced under warranty. But your question of where Apple draws the line in less extreme cases is what can't really be answered by people here.

  • 2008 Refurb MBP battery capacity

Hi all...I recently had to return my mbp battery when it crapped out, and i'm currently using the replacement (thanks apple)...I've been regular with calibration etc. (did it as soon as the battery was installed)...What I didn't do was check the initial capacity. my current cycles/capacity is 52/4742.
Based on what I've been reading around here with people having 5500-6000 mAh full charge capacity, am I wrong in thinking mine seems low, or is it ok for the charge cycles?
    Thanks for any help!

The nominal Full Charge Capacity of your battery is about 4650mAh, and it's currently indicating more than that — which is commonplace. The battery in my own 5,1 was still pretty consistently above its nominal capacity after nearly 100 cycles and a full year of use, averaging out the normal small up-and-down fluctuations from one day or week to another. So you've got a good battery.

  • MBP battery dropping fast

    Hi,
had been browsing hte forum for days and cant really find the answer to my query.
i had my MBP for 6 mth, i'm displaying my batt status in %.
what happen is the % of the battery drop very fast, like less then a min drop to 1%.
In 10 min , it can dropped to 100% to 88% while i'm just browsing the net.

..... and I have a similar problem with my new replaced battery. My Apple reseller replaced my old 17" MBP battery on last Saturday but I noticed a strange effect today. Yesterday I shut down my MBP by 50% and I only had 43% this morning.... yes I alreday calibrated the new battery as described in the Apple Manual. Furthermore, I lost about 20% while I was importing 4 Audio CD's in iTunes. Do I need to replace the battery again? Or do I need to calibrate my battery again?

  • MBP Battery shows 1:35 after calibration - How to improve?

My MacBookPro battery was giving me about 35 minutes of use unplugged, so I found the "Calibration" instrux. I ran a movie continuously looping until the computer shut down. I left it off overnight, then charged it completely the next day.
When I next unplugged it, it at first showed 1:35, but it actually shut down after just 37 minutes.
I've searched for recall info, but have found nothing -- can anyone contribute info about this?
    Thankx -- Bill

Contact AppleCare. Your battery is prematurely failing. Apple spec is 80% health for 300 cycles. You are at 31% health after 120 cycles (assuming you have a 15"; it's worse if you have a 17"). Apple extended the battery warranty to two years for all Core Duo machines (you don't state in your profile if you have a core duo or a core 2 duo, but many C2D batteries have been replaced under this program as well.
The link is below, have it handy when you talk to Apple as some techs are unaware of the program. There is a recall for specific serial numbers they may mention, which you likely do not qualify for, but the link below is a different program.
