Why is my mini skipping over songs?

My inner click wheel became stuck recently, and I could not adjust the volume nor scroll through the menus. Also, when I clicked the right side of the wheel to go to the next song, it would skip 5 or 6 songs-I could see the names flying by and it would start playing whatever it felt like, I guess.
So I brought it to an Apple store and they reset it which fixed the inner wheel. Now I can adjust the volume and scroll through the lists fine, but the skipping problem still exists. Any suggestions? Do I have to reset an option somewhere?

Try restoring the iPod software:

my ipod mini skips over songs when i select them to play. This doesnt happen all the time but it seems to happen about have way threw the battery life. I also have to press the selecdt button to turnn it on or else it wont come on.
    What should i do?

I had this problem with my ipod and it was annoying. I can help. Go to your I-Tunes and go to your ipod. Next click the ADVANCED button from your toollbar. The click de-authorize ipod then you will have to go through a bunch of steps like entering your password. Then after it is all done eject your ipod (hint:after you've clicked de-authorize/authorize ipod a window will pop up and you will have two choices i forget them but click the second one). After you are done your ipod will be fixed and ready to go! Its an annoying but fixable problem. Enjoy your ipod.

  • Ipod mini skips over downloaded itunes songs only

after downloading songs from itunes, the ipod mini skips over the songs after playing them 3 or 4 times

Make sure you have the newest version of iTunes and iPod Updater, and do a restore with the Updater and resync the songs via iTunes.
Generally skipping purchased songs are related to out of date software and updating and restoring or reputting them back on seems to help.

  • Skipping Over Songs Randomly

my Mini skips over several (inconsistent number the most i have counted is 21 )songs without even hitting the forward button and also when i do press the forward. This occurs when i use the shuffle songs feature, my playlists, and every other feature to play the music (by album, artist etc)It will also start a playlist, but it will skim over all titles and then revert back to Music or Main Menu, never having played any the songs in the playlist. This occurs not only with purchased music but music I have added to my library from cds and other sources. Any ideas on how to repair this problem. I have already tried the 5R's

    Compaq Presario   Windows XP

I have tried everything...and my mini still won't play purchased music after 2-3 days.
I have tried to restore to factory settings. I have tried to restore in disc mode. I have de-authorized, and re-authorized itunes. I have rebuilt the itunes library. Nothing seems to work. I'm no ipod specialist, but I think there has to be a software problem that's causing this, not the ipod itself.
I have called tech support and spoken with them, and explained what I am experiencing and what all I have tried and their answer is that I have tried everything and that I should take it to a store and have them run a diagnosis on the unit. I did just that, the guys at the store erased the unit and reinstalled the software. I took it home synched it to my itunes and still 3 days later nothing...
I am guessing that apple cruises through these boards...I would like to challenge them to offer an explaination/solution to this problem. I know that I am not the only one experiencing this. I'm completely frustrated and trying to keep my cool here but I am really loosing patient with this product. So here is my plea...HELP!

  • Mini skips purchased songs

My iPod mini skips over all but eight of my 210 purchased songs. I can usually reset it by plugging it back in to my PC. That has always worked in the past. However, this time around, it worked until I charged it and then started skipping again. I've tried to reset by holding down the Menu and Select buttons, and that doesn't work. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • Nano keeps skipping over songs

My Nano is two weeks old and over the weekend, it starting "skipping" over songs. I would choose album, hit play, then it would rapidly move through each album song until it got to the end. It skips over each song immediately, and does not playback the song even for a second. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Ok then...
-Try a reset on your Nano (your manual should explain how to do this)
-If problem persists download the latest iPod updater and perform a restore on the Nano. A restore erases all content on the Nano so make sure all of your music exists on your computer before doing this. The iPod Updater can be downloaded from -->http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • IPod justs skips over songs??? PLEASE HELP

When I try playing songs on my iPod it just skips over them. Some play but most of them just skip. Any answers?? Please help

In my case, the new 5G ipod was skipping virtually all the songs I had previously added from my own CD collection, but playing all others like mp3 files from CD-R or files downloaded from web, or itunes store (my old 3G had no problem playing them all). After much futzing around I found I could fix the skipping by slightly altering the info file on each of the affected songs. The easiest way to do this was on itunes choose edit--select all--right click on any song--choose "get info"--choose info tab--then insert a period or a dash or some other unobtrusive symbol in the comments section. You should see a green check mark appear next to the info section. Click OK.
This symbol will now be added to every song's comments. But it cured my problem 100%.

  • Ipod and itunes skip over songs

I just bought the new Metric album and my itunes as well as my Ipod classic are skipping over 2 songs. Do I need to redownload these two songs or this a problem with the software? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Yes. I would start by redownloading these tracks if they cannot be played either in iTunes or on your iPod.

  • ITunes plays songs but iPod mini skips whole songs

I have an iPod mini with the latest version (1.4) as well as the latest version of iTunes for Windows. I have imported songs into iTunes and they play fine, they also seem to upload to my iPod just fine. But when I go to play these certain songs on my iPod it skips right over them. It shows the song and acts like its about to play but just as it should start playing it skips to the next song. Anyone heard of this?

Hi Josh and welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, make sure you've played at least some of the purchased song in iTunes to authorize it.
If you've played them in iTunes and the still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then to re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store in iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, then the computer will be authorized again. Sync you iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes. If you don't have the latest, you can get it from here.

  • Skipping Over Songs

I have had a 4th G 40GB since December. I always have my iPod on me and it has never seem to be a problem until now. I recently re-ripped all my CD's on to my new Apple Computer because I did not trust file-transfer from PC (too many bugs). Then the other day I was listening to my ipod in the car on album (through tape deck) it was in a middle of song and then BAM! when directly to the next song. Did not think much about it till it happened again. Then today my Ipod had played an album just fine through headphones, but when I connected to the dock to play through home stereo, the same album, it would play anywhere form 10 seconds to three minutes of a track and then skip to the next song. I am running itunes 5, I keep my iPod synced with ical, and address book. But I had any luck finding a fix for this problem. Does anybody know what to do.

I had a simler problem with my 3rd generation ipod. I lost all my files on my hard drive including my itunes library, due to a bad virus. I used pod utility to get all the sound of my ipod and back on to my computer. The only problem it effect the ipod. I got the same problems as you and worst(shuffle songs would lock up my ipod until I reset it.)
After reading through a few posting I found the best way to stop this from happning is to use DiskWarrior. I use it and said some of the software was damaged and needed reapairing. After I did that I would perficly well.

  • My iPod keeps skipping over songs?

I know they're all the right format, because they were working recently. Not too long ago, I got a few new songs and went to put them on my iPod, as usual.
When it finished syncing, I played the first song and it just skipped to the next song instantly, it kept skipping songs before it stopped on one and played it. When I hit the button to go to the next song, it did it again before stopping in another.
I've completely wiped and restored it three times, but nothing changed. I've checked the files of the songs and they're all normal - like I said, they all worked until I did a recent sync to add new music. But the files of the new songs are the same as the others. Nothing is out of the ordinary.
This was the best I could describe this, hope someone can understand and help me out.
It's quite frustrating having an iPod that won't play music.

Assuming a PC I would try:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • Trying to fix my sons Ipod before Christmas- it skips over downloaded songs

I have two questions, but if you can answer the first... I will get the second one later.
My son's Ipod skips over songs that are downloaded from Itunes... they show up on the playlist and also on the Ipod- but play for one second (actually just show up on the display) and then move on... what's up?
#2 Question. We have paid for and downloaded songs from Itunes... and some, but not all... will not let us play them.... says something to the effect that we are not authorized...

  • Why do the songs on my phone keep skipping over each other?

I haven't been able to sync my itunes since to my iphone 4 since I've updated to ios7 two weeks ago. Only one song will play, and it was purchased on the itunes store, but the other songs are from CDs that I've transfered onto my itunes. Anyways, when i try to play the music on my phone it just skips over every song. It also has a red square and circle around the square. Someone please help!

I'm not completely sure what iTunes Match is.
Then you are probably not using it, since it is a paid service. iTunes Match will let you store your music in the cloud and will download it from the cloud to your devices. Since it downloads songs from the store rather than upload your song to the cloud, if the song is available from the store, sometimes the downloaded song may have a different cover. That is why was asking about iTunes Match.
If your songs transferred incompletely by syncing with USB, I'd connect the iPhone again to iTunes and restore it to factory settings,  see this support article:   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Then sync again.
