New macbook pro freezes intermittently, need to hold power to shut down
i just got a new macbook pro in june. i have 8 GB ram, a 1 TB hard drive.
it constantly freezes and i cant do anything except shut down my computer by holding the power button
last time it happened i had just finished downloading mountain lion, i was watching a youtube video, and the mountain lion installer seemed to try to boot up. here is the panic report or whatever.
can anyone confirm whether this is fixable on my end or should i just take it in to apple?? i am assuming they will cover it since it has nothing to do with me and i just bought the computer.

I have had my MBP for 2 months which I use daily for work, mainly excel. However, today my MBP took nearly 2 minutes to start up (ask for my password)
Any ideas please??Welcome . Also, you aren't using iOS 5 on a mac. iOS is for iDevices (iPod, iPad). You are using a version of OS X. To find out what version you are running, click >about this mac and it will list 10.x.x. You don't need to reply with what version your have, this is just for your own information.

There are a number of developers who have chosen for various reasons not to offer their software through the Mac App Store, so don't assume that if an application is not in the App Store that the application is not available. I just got a new MacBook Pro, plugged my iPod into it and noticed all my songs didn't transfer, including the 6 new ones I just purchased. I then brought it back to my PC to sync, and lost all my songs on my iPod. I'm now receiving all kinds of weird messages that the name of my iPod is a duplicate and cannot be synced (no matter what I put in it). During the process of loading it on my Mac., a bunch of odd emails were popping up to sync. I just kept deleting and adding mine. Is it corrupted? What have I done??? I am a personal trainer and live by my iPod. Please help.
Your post is abit confusing, especially on getting those weird messages and emails,( assumed in your Windows machine.)
Most likely you have Restored the iPod using the new Macbook pro, using the same name as that in your Windows machine, hence the duplicate name warning, as it is trying to sync Automatically.
If you are syncing your iPod to both the Mac and Windows, you must set it to Manually Manage Music, in the first machine that you setup iTunes with the iPod. Read thsi Apple Support Article
In iTunes, Preference, tick on Prevent devices syncing automatically
Hopefully your music are still in both your iTunes library,
Connect the iPod to the Mac
Restore it (just to fix any filesystem corruption by the Windows end)
Set it to Manually Manage Music
Sync your selected songs in your library.
Whern sync complete, Eject it
Connect it to your Windows PC.
Select the song in the library
Sync it.
It should work if your ipod Hardisk is not giving any problem.

I just bought a new Macbook Pro 15" with SSD 256 Gb and its almost a brand-new (the 4th time to use the device) a while ago i was trying to connect to my home wireless network it said that the connection is timed out so i clicked the airport sign on the top it said that your airport is not configured then I restarted the system but it didn't restarted it showed the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel for more than 10min so I tried the force shutdown by pressing the power button till it switched off I waited for 5min then pressed the power button to start or boot the system and again the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel, I waited for more than 20min nothing changed, any solution please?

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!
Maybe this can help someone else... I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that. I think that sorted it! I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back. Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6. Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS. I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine. Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.

The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.

I have a MacBook Pro laptop purchased in June 2011, and the superdrive no longer works. Rather than have it replaced, I'll buy a 3rd party superdrive that plugs into the USB port. Does the external superdrive need it's own power source, or will the USB port provide enough power?
The Apple external SuperDrive actually exceeds the allowed power draw. Because of this, it is only trouble-free on certain models that accommodate this excess.
All others require an external Power source. -
Ive had my 13 inch macbook pro for less than 30 days and the battery health has gone down to 92% and the computer itself is so slow...i paid $50.00 for an OLD windows computer with 512 mb of ram and it is much faster..is this normal for mac?? Also, apple says there is nothing they can/wil do even though i got the apple care....i mean really? $50.00 for 2002 computer with windows XP and 512mb of ram and a single core processor......faster and more usable than $1400.00 computer with 4gb of ram and dual core processor.....***???
