Why is my "other" space at 3.8 gigs?

I only have a 16 gig, so 3.8 takes up a lot of space.

This indicates corrupt files.
A restore should resolve.

Why is the "other" on my iphone take up so much space?

"Other" contains objects that are not categorized elsewhere.  It includes, for example, iOS, mail messages, and working space.
If "Other" is more than about 1.5 gigabytes, that would be considered a lot of space.  That is often caused by corrupt app(s).
You can shrink "Other" by restoring your iPhone using iTunes.  Plug your iPhone in, let it sync, then choose "Restore" from your iPhone's summary page in iTunes.  You can try restoring from the backup, but that may not work.  If not, restore as new and selectively sync apps back.

  • Please Help! Why do I have so much OTHER space on my Ipod Mini

    Hi
For some reason I have over 1gb of OTHER taking up space on my Mini- What is it and how do I get rid of it? My Friend has the same model and doesn't have it
    Thanks Alot
    Vicki

    Hi Vicki,
Try resotirng your iPod to factory settings. Typically, that fixes this kind of issue, since restoring deletes all of the contents off your iPod.
For instructions on how to restore an iPod, check out this Knowledge Base article:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Does that fix the issue, or do you still have too much "Other" space on your iPod?

  • I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) but the messages are still there.

I deleted some of my text message histories to get rid of 'other' space (6.33 gb). They were gone from iMessage, but they still showed up in search, so they were still taking up space on my phone. I synced my iPhone (4s) with iTunes but the messages are still there. How can I get rid of these texts for good and have more space on my phone? 6.33 gb of other space is way too much, thats almost half of my overall available space (13.5 gb.) I don't want to reset my phone and lose all my other texts/ app progress/ photos. I do have backups, but when I restore from the backup the other space comes back along with everything else. What can I do to get rid of this other space and the 'deleted' text messages? (I'm running iOS 6.1.3 if that helps)

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • IOS 7.0.2 install on iPad 2 has frozen.  My "other" space has been slowly rising from 1gb to 7.8gb

Hello.  I'm a seasoned apple and ipad user, however my iOS 7.0.2 installation has left my iPad 2 frozen with the apple logo and bar on screen. I've tried all the given instructions, none of which have resolved the issue. However I've noticed that on the iPad Summary screen on iTunes my "other" space
has been slowly rising from 1gb and it is now up to 7.8gb after 12 hours.  By clicking on the the device tab, it causes the "other" to increase.  Is it very, very slowly installing?  My iPad did have about 12gb of the 13.64gb storage used, hence perhaps why it is taking so long?

  • HUGE amount of yellow "Other" space being taken up on iPhone 4S. Please help!

I looked around the forum for a solution of the huge amount of yellow "other" space that is being eaten up on my iPhone 4S. Even after a restore, the yellow "other" space is taking up 7.1 GB of space on my phone, up from 6.5 which is what it was before the restore. What is going on? Usually I just erase some texts (I send a lot of pics to my hubby and mom,) erase some voicemails and it drops down to around 1 GB. But I've noticed since iOS 6, that hasn't worked. 7.1 GB is ridiculous. Is there ANY way at all to get rid of it without having to erase absolutely everything about my phone and start over from scratch, including downloading 40 apps all over again?
This seems to be a problem a lot of people have been having over the past few years, why has it never been addressed? There needs to be some sort of utility or something that cleans things up if they have problems with junk not getting deleted or corrupted files sticking around.

Ok, so I appreciate the suggestion that it may be a corrupted file. But have you noticed that I am not the only person having this problem? Actually look. It is a valid problem, and I'm not the only one having it. So asking for Apple to fix it really isn't wrong.

Obviously the problem is not new. And it isn't huge, but it is inconvenient and annoying. How are files getting corrupt so frequently that they are taking up 8 GB of space? There has to be a cause. And the fact that before iOS 6 happened, all I had to do was delete text messages and that would immediately fix it. Why has that changed?
Also, it's a crime to say the word Google? Sorry it offends you, that's what I used to search.

  • How to clear "other" space in iphone

my iphone is using 2.5gb extra,
    I don't know why,
Can any one tell me how to remove the extra other space??

  • Other space in iPhone

Ahh. I've scanned so many threads and I've only made my problem worse. I have always synced using iTunes on my Macbook Pro, and was running out of space, so I backed up my pictures and deleted them off my iPhone. Then I noticed I had lots of 'Other' space. I tried deleting my email account off my phone, no difference, so I added it back. I deleted all my text conversations, nope. I restored my phone and the space went UP. From 3. something GB to 4.22GB. I tried someone's idea of Settings> General> Usage> Music and deleting it, it wouldn't let my songs play so I deleted my music and then re-synced it. I have a 16GB iPhone and while I know some software space is needed, 4GB is ridiculous. How can I get this off!!

Yes hun if you restore as new the phone will be wiped, but thats why i suggested transfering purchases and importing photos and syncing with the computer first. you will be able to get your things back.

  • Help, iPad's "other" space taking so much space!!!!!

I am writing this message because
I got my 16Gb wifi ipad about a month ago and I'm using it with great content.
However, for some reason the space in my iPad is decreasing and decreasing,
because the orange, "Other" space is increasing and increasing.
I remeber earlier on it was at zero but I dont understand why it keeps getting bigger....
Its taking up 4.54 Gbs right now... way more than any of the other categories.... and I cant think of anything that would be in the "other category"
Can anyone help me understand the situation??
    Is it normal???
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the huge amount of "other"s?
I'm running out of space a problem which I wouldnt have if that other category didnt take up so much!!!!!!
    Thank you for Reading...

    I'm having the same problem...
Yesterday my other was a tiny little think slip of yellow that I never really took any notice of because it was so small and insignificant.
I downloaded a couple of movies last night and put them on, making sure that I had enough space to store it all (I only have a 14Gb iPad). I did, with all the Apps that I have on there (I have 5Gb of apps) and the films and everything else, I still had a nice 3 and bit gig left. I always like to leave a few gig free like that.
Anyway, I put the films on, checked the remaining space, and went to bed happily to watch a couple of movies.
Then I woke up this morning and updated a couple of apps, as I do every morning, and started with my day. Then I came to sync the iPad to the PC, and found that now, I only had about 400MB free!
The little yellow bar leapt from practically nothing at all to 2.6GB overnight.
I quickly removed the films to free up a little space but now I can't get rid of the yellow "Other" stuff. I tried to remove the apps that updated to see if it was those, but it wasn't. I tried soft resets, hard resets, emptying caches, getting rid of emails, talking to it nicely, offering it chocolate if it gives up its yellow barred secrets, but nothing...
Sort of taking a hammer to it and physically removing the yellow bar that is plaguing me, I'm all out of ideas!

  • Why the IPhone 6  space gray Color doesn't have a front camera , only white and gold has front camera?

    Hello, my question is,
why my iphone6+ A Space Gray Color doesn't have a front camera, I saw white and gold has ?

Of course it does have the camera, it is just darker, so you don't see it. You are also in the wrong forum: this one is for the professional audio application MainStage, not for the phone.

  • Why quality sytem disk space  should be the same as Production disk space

    Hi All,
Why quality sytem disk space should be the same as Production system disk space. Please give few points and also the impact if the disk spaces are not same. Its URGENT.

    Karunakar,
It all depends on what you do with your QA system. I personally don't think QA and Prod should be of the same size.
QA is your testing environment, the one where you perform the final tests and validations before going to Prod.
In my personal experience and practice, for QA:
    - Daily loads of Master Data - Master Data is good to keep it updated, for obvious reasons
    - No daily transactions loads - You can load your transaction data on demand, depending on the specific area you need to test. You can initialize and load sample periods or sets of data. Once you're done, that's it.
    - No copy from BW Prod to QA - You really don't need to. As far as they do "refresh" from R/3 Prod to R/3 QA, you'll have data in QA good enough to test. Also, copying Prod to QA in BW can mess your transports sequence and put the systems out of sync or make you re-transport requests that were already in QA but not in Prod. Also, by doing those copies, it's like having two Production systems to maintain... Your landscape and maintenance costs will grow much faster
In my opinion, Development and QA have a controlled growing, following those guidelines. Only Prod will keep growing during time, which makes sense.
    My 2 cents...

    Luis

  • Why does undo table space got full even when i commit between inserts??

    Dears,
I have stored procedure which inserts around 5million record(insert select not applicable); and it always fails because of "ORA-30036: unable to extend segment by 8 in undo tablespace" although the procedure commits after every 10,000 records and the undo table space is 2GB. so my question is why does undo table space got full even if i commit?? & do i have other solution than making the undo auto extend??
am working on Orcale 9i RAC
    Swaid A. McKey

Actually, i had the same problem that my UNDO tablespace starting eating too much space, my undo_retention is set as 3hours, but how can estimate it using the view.
    Here the following sample output
    SID     STATISTIC#     VALUE
    3     151     0
    3     152     0
    3     153     0
Can anyone assist with it ? But i still have the strange feeling why would UNDO get full once commit is being used. Even i did try with AUTOEXTEND and it throw me the errors that can't extend UNDO tablespace.
    Any ideas.....
    Thanks !!

  • Why ABAP is so space sensitive?

Why ABAP is so space sensitive?
I am used to programming in anguages such as JAVA, C++. In these languages
You can put spaces anywhere. ABAP requires spaces somewhere but not in other places; e.g.
    Select * from mara
    Where (  MATNR = u2018ZCHu2019 OR MATNR = u2018ZXXu2019  )
One has to have spaces after ( and before ); yet when I was using
    Select * from mara
    Where MATNR IN(u2018ZCHu2019, u2018ZXXu2019)
There cannot be any spaces after IN or so.
Are there some rules documented where one needs spaces and where one does not.

    Hi ,
If you want to know about the exact syntax then write that keyword in abap editor and  while keeping the cursor on it press f1 , it will take you to the syntax and exmple also.

  • Rented Movies Other Space?

I have rented a few movies and transfered them to my iPhone, but today when I "deleted" one before it expired, it is still on my iPhone, not as "Video" but as "Other" space. Will this go away after I sync the phone when the movie has actually expired? Because 1.34 GB of space is quite large on an 8GB iPhone, so this "Other" space will be needed in the future for "Music" and "Video" space.
Any suggestions or comments on why this occurs?

That 8.1 GB for "other" should be nowhere near that big. You may have had a sync that was corrupted and that is what caused the bloated "other" storage.
"Other" includes anything that is not music, apps, books, photos or media content. So that leaves things like your app data and documents, app settings, email settings and messages, text messages, Notes, calendar entries, Safari bookmarks and history - things associated with your apps but not the apps themselves.
Usually restoring the device is recommended in order to solve the "bloated other" issues. But before you restore your iPad, sometimes these simple quick steps can work.
Sync your iPad again, Restart your iPad or Reboot your iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Try those first and if they do not work, you will probably have to restore your iPad. You can restore from a backup at the end of the process and you should not lose anything at all - except for the nasty, bloated "other". You will want to backup before you restore. It is all explained here.
