Why is my rendered color corrected movie pixelated with jagged edges after rendering?

Hello All,
I am new short film movie producer and have just started using Adobe Premiere CS6 and Audition CS6.  Comparing my flat footage before adding it to a sequence and color correcting it and rendering it, it looks fair.  But after all these transitions it now looks pixelated along with very jagged edges.  This is my first short film for my first client and I am at my witts ends!  I have tried to copy the sequence and transfer it to a new sequence with differnt settings comparing the pixel aspect ration, fps, trying to match the clips specs and I am so stuck. Can anyone please offer any suggestions or let me know if there are procedures I have overlooked.  Thanks Adobe Community.
Michael Diaz

Let's back up a step - what camera do you use? If it's an HDV model, then yes you have anamorphic footage. Simply choose an HDV sequence preset to match. If your camera shoots 720p or full 1920x1080, those are square pixel (1.0) formats and are not anamorphic (anamorphic does NOT mean widescreen, it means "stretched to widescreen" basically).
In any case, drag a clip to the New Item button for best results until you get more educated and confident about the different formats you may be working with.
If you copied and pasted the contents of the SD sequence into an HD sequence, all filters and effects you had applied before should remain intact and not need reworking, except possible for titles and things involving scaling (since the size has changed).
As for exporting, you typically will NOT want an anamorphic export, except for widescreen DVD. You will not see anamorphic mentioned though, just choose "MPEG-2 DVD" and an appropriate widescreen preset and Adobe knows what to do from there. For web/computer viewing, best to avoid anamorphic footage, since many players assume 1.0 PAR and do not adjust the image for non-square pixels. So if working with 1440x1080 footage, and exporting to web or YouTube for instance, export as 1920x1080 (1.0) or 1280x720 (720p) so the viewer sees the proper 16:9 output, or the image may be squished otherwise!
Thanks

  • Icon become pixelated with rough edges after 10.6.5 update.

Hi, I have this annoying problem after the 10.6.5 update, my icon at the dock appears to be pixelated (rough edges), and all the pictures/text that I view in facebook has this issue as well, not only facebook but all the images basically.
During the time of this posting, I realized this issue has extended to video. I have tried to reinstall mac OS X, repair permission, and do another round of update using the 10.6.5 combo. But doesn't seems to solve the issue here.
Any kind soul can advise on this?
    Thank you.

After trying out all the possible resolutions (repair disk permission, reinstallation..etc) it all didnt work out.
I decided to try a fresh installation: it yielded 2 results which i wish to share, don't consider this to be a resolution to the problem but my mere experience to resolution.
    1. I first deleted the partition and install a fresh copy from apple disc. Boot up to mac, and install the 10.6.5 combo, after restarted, problem persist, all the icon, text, video still appeared to be pixelated. I'm not doing the installation in full resolution mode in this attempt but 1920x1080. After this has failed. I decided to give it another try in my max screen resolution.
    2. Same process goes, i deleted the partition and begin a fresh installation, after booted in to mac, the auto update ran by itself, and i was prompted for update. I'm trying something a little bit different this time by not using the combo update to install the 10.6.5 but letting the auto update take place by itself. Restarted after installation finished....
ALL ARE BACK TO NORMAL. NO MORE PIXELATED SCREEN.
I'm not certain of what is the cause. But i would like to think the new update might not handle lower screen resolution well.

  • Easiest way to color correct Final Cut project in Adobe After Effects CS4

Hello, I have a project in Final Cut Studio 2, that I would love to color correct in Adobe After Effects CS4.  What would be the easiest, highest quality, most direct way to import or color correct Final Cut project in Adobe After Effects?
    Thanks a lot

Export the FCP project, import it in Premiere Pro. From there, import the saved Premiere project into AE to retain the clips. How you get it back to FCP is anotehr matter, but simply rendering from AE should suffice. For everything else, Automatic Duck or BorisFX' XML Transfer would certainly offer a way to get this working in both directions....

  • Why is FCP now outputting my mov's with a -av.mov1 file attached?

anyone know why fcp is now outputting my mov's with a -av.mov1 file attached

I lost power while doing a live capture one time and managed to recover one of those -av files. I just remember I had to jump through hoops to get it to play again.

  • Problems when rendering color correction.

Hi! I discovered a possible bug in Pro CS3. Maybe in Pro 2 too? When manually adjusting "levels" in the Color Correction menu, the rendering
makes some frame dropouts. I pulled away som blue tint in some
footages and the render results in jumpy playback when people move fast by the camera. Sounds' linear and OK. When scrolling the timeline frame by frame, some frames are gone compared to the original. Ticking
the Effect Icon in the Effects Control window on and off, it changes
back to normal in the original movie. Exporting it as AVI makes same.
But when doing Color Balance instead, and lowering blue, everythings'
    normal. Strange!

  • Color Correcting MOV file

Hello,  I have a problem with importing FCP generated XML file into Adobe Premiere Pro, so I can later transfer it to Adobe After Effects for color correcting.  So I'm thinking to color correct a high quality MOV file that I can export from Final Cut.  Does that make any sense?  I'd like to keep highest quality possible for submitting my film to film festivals, DVD etc.
Would such a method adversely affect the quality of the image?  What would be the best way to color correct a file?
Also, as a side question, does Color Finesse come built-in into After Effects or one has to purchase it separately.  For someone, who is an amateur in color correcting does it make a big difference whether one color correct in After Effects or Color Finesse?
    Many thanks

If you export a losslessly encoded movie from Final Cut Pro, then you won't lose any quality by moving your movie back and forth as a QuickTime movie. People often use the Animation codec or the PNG codec in a QuickTime container for lossless encoding of movies for such transfers. The files are big, though, so don't expect to use such files for distribution or realtime playback.
Yes, Color Finesse is included with the full version of After Effects (not with the free trial version, though). See "Color correction and adjustment".

  • After Effects Rendered Color Correct Not Showing In Premiere

    Hello all,
I have recently made a short film with a few effects in Premiere and After effects CS4.  I have used the Dynamic Link to accomplish this.  I have added color correction with Color Finesse in After effects.  The problem is I some of the color correction is not showing up in Premiere once it has finished.  Some of them are adjustment layers and some are not and the ones that are showing up are diverse like that as well.  I have rendered the footage and rendered the premiere time line, it fixes it at first but won't build a DVD the right way then the fixes just seem to disappear when scrolling through the timeline.
Is anyone else haveing this problem?
Do you think it's something wrong that an update will fix?
    Maybe a new codec?

Mylenium is correct, the LE version of Color Finesse included with CS4 is for use in After Effects only. To use Color Finesse inside of Premiere or AME you'll need to upgrade to the full PI version. You can find information on available upgrade paths at http://www.synthetic-ap.com/cfupgrade
And if anyone has the PI version and the color correction is disappearing when rendered by AME, be sure to update to the latest version of Color Finesse. Version 2.1.10 corrected an issue that would cause that symptom.

  • Color correction novice back with a problem/question.

    Hi,
I have been working on color correction for an edit of a live 2 camera shoot concert. Edits are almost all final. I dug into correcting color between the 2 cameras & after some practice got good results.
Tho, I noticed that corrections looked slightly different after rendering them, and again slightly different after exporting to full uncompressed quicktime video.
Saturation levels shifted (less), & some shots showed slightly different color balance. This is a unique shoot because the stage was fully lit in red light & red can be one of the most difficult colors in video (in my experience).
So I eventually started that vicious cycle of correcting not by eye but by anticipating what was needed to get a desired result after rendering & exporting... each time it was lengthy renders & exports before seeing the results.
So I had several versions of the project saved w/ different renderings, etc. All of this is stored on a 250 gig 2nd internal drive which I bought & installed just for editing. All files & edit lists etc were kept there.
So I'm trying to look at different versions after having to put the project aside for a couple of weeks, and every version I open shows me a list of render files that it says it can't find. I've just been choosing to re-render.
(I'm wondering if a routine session of running disk warrior on my drives could have contributed to this?? Thats the only thing I can think of, other than the OSX upgrade to 10.4.4, which also included a quicktime upgrade.)
I'm new at this so I'm trying to figure out if this disappearance of render files is normal? In one version I chose 'search computer for render files' or something to that effect & I watched it go thru my drives one after another & when it got to the 2nd internal drive (where all the render files should be), it spent about 1/10th the time that it spent searching other drives. It really jumped in & out of that drive really quickly.
Its not all the render files that are missing, I looked in the render folder & some have older dates, while a section of them are from tonite when I re-rendered. Then more with the older date.
    Anybody have any advice?
    Thanks for your help

  • Colors in an image comes out different after rendering comp

Hey guys, having an annoying problem.
For a project, I've imported a jpeg file that I made on Photoshop. The colors look perfectly fine on the RAM previews and stuff but after I render it, just that specific jpg image comes washed out. It should be dark grey / almost black but after rendering into .mov that image becomes medium grey. It's noticeably more washed out and lighter. All the other colors in that image are also noticeably lighter as well.
Any ideas whats going on? I have set my working space to my monitors color profile and I have proofed the colors after saving on Photoshop.
Thanks! This is driving me nuts!

I send the composition to the Render Queue and do it from there. I have my render settings to "Best", and output module to "Lossless".
Regarding the codec, I'm not sure about that. How can I find out? Sorry this is my first time really with AE.
    EDIT: FIXED!
On the output module, I had it set to Quicktime before. I changed that to H.264 and the colors were fine after that. Whew!
Thanks for all your help Rick!

  • Why can't I import a .mov created with QT screen recording into FCX?

I created a .mov file with QuickTime's Screen Recording mode. The movie thus created opens in the QuickTime Player and plays fine, but when I try to import it into FCX's editor with File>Import, I get an error message: "File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown".
Why can't I import this .mov to edit it in FCX?
    Thanks,
    George

Bengt, I believe the OP's "FCX" does mean FCE.
Like Al said, they need to be transcoded (say, to AIC) in something like MPEG Streamclip, QT Pro  or Compressor.
Actually, FCP X will happily open them.

  • Why can't I select and move guides with selection tools?

I'm using Illustrator CC and I cannot select and move guides with the selection tools. The guides are not locked. I can select the guides in the Layers Panel, but I can only move with the arrow keys. I can also "Release" the guides once they are selected in the Layers Panel, but I still cannot move them with the mouse - only the arrow key.
    Summary of Problem:
    Guides are not locked.
Some guides can only be moved when they are selected in the Layer Panels and when using the arrow keys
Non-selectable Guides can be "Released" but only altered in color and line weight and still only moved with the arrow keys.
    Desired Outcome:
I want to be able to move all guides using the mouse for greater accuracy vs the arrow keys.
    Thank you for your help.

    Channing, anotherhead,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Color correct CMYK Image with RGB Image

    1. anybody please tell me is it possible to perform color correction in CMYK image with RGB reference image
    2. how to do that i mean what are the details i have to watch for?
    ADVANCE THANKS

Your match using my color profile(similar to North American General Purpose) would be 29c 100m 83y 35k. Convert a sample swatch, using your color workflow/profile.
Some RGB colors won't convert well to cmyk (eg 0R 255B 0G). In that case your problem is not using a RGB reference image for CMYK color correction, but the cropped color gamut in the color conversion itself.
In those cases of saturated RGB colors you may have to do some handtoning to surrounding colors, to help create the illusion of RGB saturation to the troublesome color you are matching.

  • Why do button highlights suddenly have jagged edges after a test burn, especially for round buttons?

Hi, I would like to know how to make menu buttons look perfect when they are highlighted.
Some tutorials I found say that I have to create menus in HD first, then from that Encore would render it to the right size or dimensions. I tried that route as well but still I got the same results.
Buttons look really good on Encore preview but after doing a test burn and playing the disc, I get poor quality buttons that look jaggedy, especially for the round buttons.
Any kind of advice or help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

DVD spec, highlights are limited to 2 bit indexed color. You have probably applied effects to them or used more forgiving color.
Also, the HD to SD downrezzing creates problems for detail that does not have enough pixels left in the SD size.
