Why is my services menu all in spanish?

My services menu is in spanish.  I have english selected as my primary language.  Everything else is english but its all spanish in the services submenu.

Try going to system preferences/language & text/language and using the Edit button to uncheck the box for Español and then restart.

  • Services Menu for a Newbie...why are the things i want to do, gray?

I transitioned from windows to Mac not too long ago and never figured out how to use the Services Menu in OS X application menus. Whenever I tried to say, mail the current page I'm looking at in Safari; I do what feels natural and choose Safari, Services, Mail and then wanting to chose Send To, but it's grayed out. I have searched Help and the Forums but I'm striking out. Can someone point me to a tutorial or something to help me get the most out of OS X in using the tools in the Services Menu? thanks for your patience.
    ed

The Services Menu changes depending on the features of the app you're using. If you choose Mail from Safari (as in your example) Send To and Send Selection will be grayed out. However, if you choose some text and then repeat the process, your selection will open and be pasted in Mail.
David Pogue, The Missing Manual is an excellent comprehensive manual on Leopard.
I would also suggest you take a look at Mac 101 and Switch 101. There's a wealth of info there. There are a couple of additional references to Services Menu, here and here.

  • Why does Letchworth State Park have no service at all.  High traffic area.  Lots of tourists.

Letchworth State Park in NY is call the Grand Canyon of the east.  It has 3 high falls and a huge canyon.  Very Popular tourist attraction.  Lots of people traffic.  Dangerous area.  14 year old fell off a 200 foot cliff last week and died.  How did they summon help.  Not through Verizon.  No service at all through out 80% of the park.

The reason is regulatory interference. For many years people who live in the Adirondack Park Corridor also had zero cell service. Most do not even today. But Verizon does have two towers there now.
Slow progress. In fact they are made to look like big trees because the residents did not want the towers showing.
In your location it is probably the same issues. Towns and villages or even New York State  just won't approve placement of towers.
It is the same all over.
Remember the state putting emergency phones on highways and other areas that had no cell service? Then spent millions removing them? Then put them back for millions more tax dollars due to people yelling for their return.

  • Services menu killed

For some odd & unknown reason my 'services' menu appears to have been killed. It now says 'building' in grey text. At the same time in the prefpane System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts, the 'services' entry is empty.
I have since logged out - didn't help; restarted the machine, didn't help. I've checked under a new user account, it has the same issue.
    Running 10.6.2.
Any other ideas out there to bring that services back to life ? Launchctl wizardry or other terminal commands ?
(most mentions of the issue on this board suggest a restart, it really didn't help in my case)

Why? No idea. Sorry. Yes, back up all important data.
Make sure and repair disk permissions after the Archive & Install ...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Services menu dies

I'm having trouble with my services menu. It constantly winds up with nothing enabled.
I've run cocktail twice. Each time it manages to re-enable the services menu, and things work.
Later, the services are all dead again.
I don't know why it keeps dying.
Symptoms: Everything is greyed out. Even when I have text selected/highlighted, nothing that works on text is enabled.

    Hi, keybounce.
    1. What Cocktail function did you use? Cache cleaning?
    2. I see from some of your other recent posts re: "kernel tick" that you may be hacking your system. Not advisable.
    3. What changes did you make to your Mac before the problem arose?
    4. See if a third-party Startup or Login Item may be the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    5. Likewise, some third-party application may be killing Services. See if the problem arises after you launch a particular application. If so, the application may have a bug: check for updates, contact the developer, etc.
    6. Here's some general information for you concerning Services:• Most Carbon applications do not support services: only Cocoa applications. Test for the problem using TextEdit to see if it is also affecting Cocoa-based applications.
    • This may be the result of altering the structure of the /Applications folder or other critical, System-related folders, such as /Library/Services. One should never alter the structure of these folder, such as by moving applications into new subfolders within /Applications
    • In Console, you may also see the message:
Lookup in pbs of server "com.apple Services Server" failed.
The "pbs" reference in the console messages you're seeing refers to "pasteboard services" which is the Clipboard. This is launched as part of configuring user sessions.
    • Most Services exchange data through the pasteboard (clipboard), as described in the System Services documentation.
    • Most applications have an info.plist file as part of their bundle. This file is how the application "advertises" the service(s) it provides: if the application provides Services, then there are entries in this file describing such.
    • The Services menu is populated by Mac OS X by collecting the information from all info.plist files in selected directories, including /Applications and /Library/Services. This is described in more detail here.Good luck!

  • Services menu missing from contextual menu

i think my services menu is broken. it doesn't show up at all in the contextual menu and from the application menu if i have say a pdf selected the only thing i see listed is 'new email with attachment' and services preferences. anyone else have this problem.

Yes, can report the exact same issue as well.
The loss of the services and automator menus from a contextual click is a real annoyance, and I really shouldn't have come to the Apple discussion forums to find this answer.
My scenairo is that I'm an entourage user for corporate mail and services (Sorry, can't stand the in-built clients for this purpose, they irritate me to no end). I had an automator action setup to easily create a new email with the selected items from the finder with a simple right click.
To do this now requires a whole new way of working, and to get back to some semblance of what I had before, as documented here, you have to de-select then re-select all the services in the services preference pane.
And while we're on the subject - why oh why can't we set the default program which email actions/services are sent to for existing services.
This is a real pain, and shows a distinct lack of polish in the end use expeirence for snow leopard, sigh.

  • Can I remove items from the Services menu?

I think the subject line says it all: can I remove items from the Services menu? I have a number of items in the Services menu that I never use and I would like to make the menu shorter to make it easier to access the items that I do use.

There are a couple of things you could try. There's an application called Service Scrubber that is supposed to do this. But the web page says it's for 10.4, though it says it might work on 10.3
Alternatively, you can edit the Info.plist or Info-macos.plist file in each application bundle to remove its service from the Services menu. This post at Mac OS X Hints has a pretty detailed description of how to do it. I tried this on my iMac running 10.3.9 and it worked just fine.
Don't know about the Service Scrubber app, but if you edit the plist files, you'll need to log out and log back in before the changes take effect.
Also, if you decide to edit the files by hand, I'd suggest just renaming NSServices by adding an "x" to the front or something, rather than deleting the item completely. That makes the changes easier to reverse.

  • TV Not working - Light Blinks 3 times after exiting service menu?

Was just in the TV service menu to check hours of usage, was 709 (low), this TV is virtually new. Powered TV off using the remote and now it won't turn back on. There is a green light on the front that will blink 3 times and stay off for a few seconds then repeat.
It's a 40" LCD, about a year old, but just out of warranty.
    Model: 40XV645U

Turn off your TV, unplug all wires, and wait 30 minutes before reconnecting the TV.
If the problem persists, I'd contact support to discuss your options at (800) 631-3811.

  • Firefox 18.0.1 Mac OS 10.6.8: "Services Menu" items no longer available, "No Services Apply" only item showing.

Where have the 'services menu' items gone? How can they be recovered/reinstated? Tried 'reset' ; tried restart -- still no 'services' (e.g. "email address", "open URL").

Thanks, that answer would SEEM to make sense.
But I deleted  all the preference files (not just the one you suggest) and restarted , etc... several times.
End result: Flash CS4 still crashes, if not on opening, then everytime I try to open my old documents and reset the preferences.
I am currently reinstalling my entire hard drive just to try to get CS4 to work again.
I have worked with Flash since 1998, using it professionally for everything from short interactive demos to feature length animated films.
CS4 is without a doubt the most poorly designed, inefficient version I have ever dealt with.
A great and useful animation program was turned into a piece of bloated garbage filled with bugs and inefficiencies.
I will switch to the first animation program that comes along to replace it, now that adobe seems to think the only real use for flash is to create low level acton scripts (despite being used for tv show level animation production for years.)
These forums amply demonstrate that adobe has almost no useful support for its products and no real vision or idea of what it is doing.
The fact that you can no longer even export flash as a quicktime movie that actually accurately plays is another nail in the coffin.
I wish somebody at Adobe cared.

  • Remove Items Services Menu

I like to experiment with new software. Most I end up deleting but occasionally I end up with some cool stuff. The problem, however, is that some of these add services in the Services Menu and I can't get rid of them.
I've removed the apps with AppZapper, I've done a search with EasyFind and removed any other traces of these apps. I've even gone in manually and looked through all three libraries (user, system, hard drive) and looked in Application Support, Preferences, Caches, Services (seems obvious but there are only 6 items total in there) and every other folder that might relate to this.
Nothing of these programs exist anywhere in my system or hard drive, yet their services are still in the Services Menu. If anyone knows how to get these things out I'd really like to know.
In the mean time web searching came up with this:
    http://www.petermaurer.de/nasi.php?section=servicescrubber
A nifty little program called Services Scrubber that lets you turn off any services you don't want, really quite handy. So they are no longer in the menu, which is a big improvement, but I want them out of my system too.

    Hi, Kevin.
Take a look at the System
    Services documentation, particularly the
section "Items in the Services Menu", to understand
    how the Services Menu functions.
Thanks, Doc. I've saved it as a web archive to read later since it's 6 am and I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee yet and it's a bit too much to deal with right now.
I suspect you may have to perform a restart after
uninstalling an app that adds items to the Services
menu in order for it to be cleared.
Already done a restart. Some of these are months old and my Mac has been restarted several times, even had Disk Warrior and other repairs and updates (Repairing Permissions and Rebuilding Launch Services database, deleting caches) more than once as well.
I just left all those Services sitting there because I didn't have time to deal with it and they didn't seem to be hurting anything. I always assumed I just needed to go into the various services folders and delete them, so when I went to do that yesterday I was quite surprised to not find any of them there. Had a similar problem with Contextual Menus with many of the same programs, but those I did find in the correct folders and removed them and they are gone like they should be.
I suspect Service Scrubber's author may be scanning
for the info.plist files of installed applications to
find potential services, as well as checking any
"Library/Services" directories extant (Macintosh HD >
Library > Services, Home > Library > Services,
Macintosh HD > System > Library > Services, etc.).
You'd have to discuss this with him or check his
    site.
The problem with that is I've removed all traces of these apps, even going through and looking for scraps manually after doing a search with EasyFind. They no longer exist so how can Service's Scrubber change anything in them? And I've looked through all the services folders and none of these programs exist there either. Here's what's in the folders:
    User services:
    ChronosNotesService.app
    ChronosNotesService.bundle
Those are supposed to be there as StickyBrain is one of those apps I kept and want the services.
    System services:
    AppleSpell.service
    ChineseTextConverterService.app
    ImageCaptureService.app
    Spotlight.service
    SummaryService.app
    HD/Library doesn't even have a services folder.
The lack of services placed in services folders is puzzling. I just installed Yojimbo yesterday and it added a service yet it doesn't show up either. Where are they putting these?
But, clearly, Service's Scrubber can find these and turn them off.
AppZapper may also not be doing its job fully. You
should consult with the author concerning the
    Services issues you are seeing.
It sounds like I need to contact AppZapper, Service's Scrubber AND the various apps causing the problems. Sigh.
They aren't causing any problems and aren't even cluttering the Services Menu any more since I used Service's Scrubber, I'm just curious as to what's going on.

  • Services menu in TextEdit

I used to use Services in Text Edit under Snow Leopard to convert between simplified and traditional Chinese. Now when I try to do the same in Lion, all I get in Services is a grayed out text "Building...", yet all other apps having functioning Services items. I've also checked under Preferences/Keyboard/Shortcuts/Services and all items are there. I've tried restoring to defaults to no avail.
    Anyone came across this?

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

    * On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

  • Need to fix item in services menu

I am using OmniFocus as my task manager.  I have set up a keyboard shortcut for a clipping feature ("send to OmniFocus").  My keyboard shortcut is correct in System Preferences>keyboard>keyboard shortcuts>Services.  But when I use the mail.app and select text, the services menu tells me the clipping shortcut (for "send to OmniFocus") is something other than the one I have set.
I need to get in there and fix that services menu.  How do I do that?
p.s. I have cleared all my caches.  I have rebooted the PRAM.  I have repaired permissions.  OmniFocus ninjas are not sure of the fix.
    Can you help?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Is it not working just under Mail.app? Maybe you chose a shortcut combination that's active on Mail as well. If you have to change the shortcut, just go to the place you mentioned in System Preferences and double-click the shortcut that corresponds to the "send to OmniFocus" service and input a new combination. Notice that depending on your priorities, you might also consider changing Mail's conflicting shortcut, instead of Omni's.
    Good luck!

  • N97 - No log-in from the VOIP service menu

I am stuck though I have followed Nokia's procedure for configuring my phone for VOIP calls: Log-in from the VOIP service menu doesn't happen. My SIP-profile is registered. However, I have two VOIP services defined (two globes) with the same name as a consequence of a problem when installing "S60 5.x SIP VoIP 3.1 Settings", then reinstalling, and I do not know how to delete one (the other displays my username correctly). Under the globe, the following text is displayed "Contact not on the contact list. To add, select 'Add fro..."  and no more. My phone is a N97 RM-505 with software version 21.0.045. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

  • Send Mail in Services menu

    Hello all!
I am not sure if this goes here, but I finally got to writing this. My SERVICES menu (under any Application name) will NOT send an email from anywhere.
If I hilite some text in Safari & go Safari>Services>Send to... NOTHING happens.
Now I admit it's been this way since 10.4.5 or so...
About half my Services menu item work, half don't.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

PS i will also post this under OS X.4 since i think it's also an OS issue.

Yeah Mail works fine, other apps work fine,.. Nothing's been moved.. (I am REALLY good with OS X & have been a local Mac Guy for a decade or so.. and usually can figger out my problems)
I think it's something in the scripts, or coding that run the Services Menu.
Anyone know HOW the Services work? Are they apps? Applescripts? Shell Scripts? Are there links (?) to the services that could get broken?
Maybe that would help get to a solution..
