Why is my site loading slowly?

I'm curious. I have high speed, and my site loads quickly for me, although, it does take a few seconds as things appear, like the background, headings, etc. Is this normal? Some others are saying that it's VERY slow for them, so it's gotta be bad for non high speed internet users.
What causes this, and how can I help it? I changed my background, which was something I "painted" in Painter IX, and tweaked in Photoshop, then I optimized it for the web, which made it a GIF. I figured that would help a lot, but it seems to have made it a tad slower, actually. Weird. Even my images are all downsized in the "downsize" program. Can't figure out what would be causing it to be so slow!

Hi Tami
Here are some of the backgrounds and images you are using on your pages, and their sizes:
http://www.heartdogstudios.com/heartdogstudios/Homefiles/backgroundimage1.png 850K
http://www.heartdogstudios.com/heartdogstudios/About%20Me_files/Biophoto-filtere d.png 446K
http://www.heartdogstudios.com/heartdogstudios/Images/background.gif 319K
http://www.heartdogstudios.com/heartdogstudios/Photographyfiles/backgroundimage1.png 479K
It's these that are causing the problem.
If you've already optimised the images, then once you drag them into iWeb, don't apply any effects within iWeb itself, otherwise you will turn it into a png again upon publish.

  • Z87 GD45 Network issues/some sites loading slowly

Hi, I've just built a new system with a MSI Z87 GD45 and i5 4670k. Everything is running great, but certain websites load slowly.
Microsoft has been the worst so far. At first the page I need would sometimes not load all the assets, and then it would load the site fine, but the downloads are ALWAYS unbearably slow. I had to get the .NET 4.5 framework because my AMD catalyst drivers were stopping on that process, but downloading from microsoft was under 1KB/s. I ended up having to download the .NET framework through a torrent, because every other site just mirrored microsofts link.
Other websites are intermittently loading very slowly or just a little bit slower than they should.
I have a 100Mbit fiber connection that consistently gets between 110 and 116MbitDL and 2.3-2.5Mbit UL on speedtest.net from my local server. When I say some sites are loading slow, I mean slower than 56k, not slow relative to my normal fast speeds. My last computer using realtek eNIC and my room mates computer using a broadcomm eNIC has no such issues.
What I have tried so far:
Downloaded the latest killer E2200 drivers and removal utility.
    Removed old drivers, rebooted.
    Run removal utility, rebooted.
    Installed new drivers, rebooted.
Tried with Atheros Killer application manager enabled (default) and disabled.
    My system consists of:
    MSI z87 GD45
    Core i5 4670k (stock)
    GEIL Evo veloce 16GB (2x8GB) 1866 (XMP)
Gigabyte HD7950 3GB windforce (from my old computer)
Seasonic 660w Platinum PSU in hybrid fan mode (in stress testing the fan has never switched on)
    Sandisk Extreme II 240GB SSD
    WD 3TB green HDD
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
The system has otherwise been completely stable and runs cool in stress testing (prime95 and furmark).
The only other issue(s) is that there is no driver installed for the PCI Simple communications Controller and two other Unknown Devices in the Device manager. I installed the chipset, LAN and audio drivers and then the intel USB3 driver. On reboot, nothing using USB worked, including my mouse and keyboard, so I rebooted in safe mode and removed the driver... now everything works. Should I perhaps look for a newer version of this driver. I can't see how that's related to my internet speed issue though...
Back to the problem, right now I'm downloading microsoft security essentials at 4KB/s which is the fastest it has gone so far. Before that I downloaded a game from steam at 8-12MB/s..... why is microsofts site so consistently slow on my system?

    Hi Andrew86,
It's obvious you just made a typo. Here is one topic regarding internet with the 45 : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=170539.0
This seemed to be a solution
Quote from: Insirion on 29-August-13, 00:53:15
yesterday I got a bluescreen. i had those 3 times that week. On the log it said it was because of the killer network card.
Too fix this I went to "msconfig' then the tab services. And check off "Qualcomm Atheros killer Service",
And under boot I disabled KillerNetManager. Wiorked for me so far.

  • Site loading slowly in browsers

Hi, I've created this site in iWeb 3.0.2. It's loading slowly, and even more so when on AOL. I have a lot of images per page, and try to keep them small. I'd appreciate any feedback on how to improve the loading speed in all browsers. Thanks for your help!
    http://www.goodlifegear.us

You have a lot of images that are PNGs. The total file size is large and is compounded by your use of frames.
Try adding the frames before importing into iWeb and load them as JPEGs.
Using an Optimizer application will also dramatically speed up the download of your pages.

    This may help too....

  • IWeb site loading slowly?

Hi! My iWeb site loads really slow. I think it's because iWeb converts all the images to PNG. How can I make my site load faster?
    ~Matt

PNGs load really fast, they are the smallest and highest quality images.
Do you have a link to the site, it will allow us to see it and figure out what is slowing it down.

  • Why does my site load slower in firefox

My websites, http://thedailymeditation.com and http://lifeandself.com take longer to load in firefox. Why?

In what way do they take longer?
You can try to open a New Private Window to see if that has effect.
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (MAC)
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Why does my trackpad load slowly?

    Running OS X Version 10.9.5
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications
    I run a dual-boot computer containing both OS X and Windows 8.1
Whenever I boot into OS X my trackpad doesn't work for around a minute. I'm inclined to believe this is because the drivers take a while to load on boot, but I don't know why they would.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Ok fixed it myself after all that. Looked like it was an indexing issue. Created a new project, imported the old project. Once imported I let it re-index the assets, closed the new project and then opened the old, sorted. I also cleared the cache before the import too.

  • Videos Loading Slowly!

    Hi,
I was viewing quicktime videos on a website today and all of sudden everything started loading slowly. I immediately went to disk utilities and ran it. Still the videos ran slowly. I even did Diskwarrior and shut down/restarted my computer and still they are loading at a very slow rate. Is there something else I can do? Why are the videos loading slowly? I've checked my internet speed on websites like msnbc.com and my business website which has flash videos and they worked fine. I also had someone send me another quicktime video which although it didn't load promptly was playing in less than 7 seconds.

Post a link/URL of the slow loading video website.

  • Since update, various sites load very slowly and some do not load until "Reload Current Page" is clicked several times.

Since Firefox update (6.0.2) many sites load very slowly and some do not load at all (green circle rotates infinitely) until "Reload Current Page" is clicked on 2 to 12 times.
Returned to version 5. No more slow load.
Automatically re-updated me to 6.0.2 and now slow again.
Returned to FF 5 again and turned off automatic update.
Downloaded 7.0.1 and the problem seems to be solved.

Same here, only that updating to 7.0 or 7.0.1 doesn't seem to solve this issue. Seems to have something to do with loading images (e.g: adobe.com stops loading when "wwwimages.adobe.com" is being loaded. imdb.com, on the other hand, seems to load images very slowly and not all of them).
Safe-mode. disabling add-ons, clearing cache and cookies and checking for malware doesn't help.

  • Router causing specific site to load slowly

I am using a wrt54g with the latest firmware. When I visit www.scarebearsclan.com it gets stuck on connecting for 6-8 seconds before beginning to load. The reason I believe it is my router is because when I disconnect my router the site loads fast and there is no delay at connecting. I cannot understand why this is happenning. I do not seem to have this problem with any other site that I've noticed so far. Please help somone. Thank you

  • Web sites loading very, very slowly.

On both the iMac and the PowerBook, web sites (like my Apple start page) load painfully slowly. On the iPhone 2, however, there's no problem — all use the Extreme/Express wireless system in the house. This has happened before — what would cause this? BTW, a download test routinely indicates almost 9 MG.

No change regarding history and cache (though I don't know what tmp. files are). Some sites load in a flash — others stall (though sometimes they have no problem). Bumping the start does help. The DSL modem has been reset. I don't know what else to try. Not running anything new or different. This has been a very fast machine — until now. BTW, I just remembered that this may be associated with a number of unusual Safari crashes (reported to Apple).

  • IWeb Pages Load Slowly in Browser

Even since the 1.0 version of iWeb, I noticed that the content rich themes resulted in very slow page loads. So, I decided to choose the most minimalist theme possible -- Modern. Even with the latest version, I still notice that the pages created load quite slowly. Here's a simple page with just a few elements on it:
    http://web.mac.com/resourcesforlife/journal/
The various layers load at different times, so rather than text appearing on a page, the text appears without a page and then the image layer of the paper shows up later -- kind of ruining the effect of text on a paper.
Previously, the blog directory (main page) would load at an average speed. Now it seems even slower. There are some kind of white borders being placed around the images and this takes a while to apply. I didn't notice these prior to the 2.0 version of iWeb.
So, in general, the density of coding on the pages and inefficient design of the pages, seems to cause them to load slowly. This is a similar problem to what I've heard about with people using Microsoft Word to create HTML pages. The code ends up being very complicated and takes a long time for the browser to interpret. So, many people use programs like Dreamweaver to create the cleanest and simplest code possible for their pages allowing them to load quickly.
Another example of an unnecessarily slow page is my blog archive. It's just text. When it generates, it almost seems like the server is creating the page using a MySQL engine or something like that. One would think that the archive page might be generated into clean HTML at the time of publishing. I looked at the source code, and it isn't pre-generated using basic HTML. It's calling up Java Script routines to generate the page:
    http://web.mac.com/resourcesforlife/journal/writings/Archive.html
    Any thoughts on this topic?

How weird, but cool! It's too bad iWeb isn't as smart as you are. Since the site generates much of the coding on the fly at the time of publishing to the web, you would think it could think of a smarter way (like the one you've presented) to generate the page image. For example, the text I typed in on the little notepad begins as me typing text. It ultimately ends up as a graphic image created by iWeb when publishing. So, why not just make the entire page a relatively compact JPG image?
Your suggestion would work great if I wasn't planning on changing the content of my main opening page.
I noticed if I used the fun handwriting font along with others in the same text box, that the entire text box became hundreds (like 300) different images representing the separate text and links on the page -- super inefficient. So, I ended up using the fun handwriting font in a separate text box that gets converted to an image and then another text box of Arial font text:
    http://web.mac.com/resourcesforlife/journal/topics.html
So, that works on those pages. But I wanted the main page to look nice. Oh, also, some of the elements on the page are links. The movie tickets link to a certain page, for example. So, I'd need to create hotspots in the jpg image to accommodate for that.
In any event, I'm still going back to mark this question as solved because I think for most people's situations it would be with the suggestion you made -- use iWeb to design the graphics of a page, and then save it as a JPG.
I suppose I could also use Pages or Keynote to do the same. Once an entire web page is a JPG image, it doesn't matter how it was created.

  • Doesn't load a certain website I have. My site loads on all other computers, and in different browsers on my Mac???

I'm building a store and for some reason FireFox for Mac seems to not want to load it all the time. Sometimes it just stops loading the site even though the server is up and it loads in all other browsers. It only happens on my computer and it's really frikken annoying. It's coming to the point where I will have to switch browsers if I cannot find a fix. It's impossible to work on a site when FireFox refuses to load it at times, but I have NO idea why!!
Chrome for Mac loads the site INSTANTLY, but I like to use FireFox because of the helpful add-ons it has.
I'm not posting the URL here because it is an adult store and I'm not sure if that is allowed.
I just think it's weird that FireFox ONLY does it on this site, and ONLY does it on my computer. It's been doing it for weeks now, since I started the site. The other weird thing is that when I Quit FF completely and restart it, my site loads fine. I can be working on it for hours and then BOOM, FF decides to be a royal P.I.T.A.
Is there any way to troubleshoot this issue?
    Thank you.
