Why is my texting using data? When I have data turned off I can't send/receive. Texting is "unlimited" but it's using up all my data- help!

Texting longer text messages or any media (pictures/video/sound etc) being sent requires data to be active. However, it does not count against your data caps.
Since you have an iPhone, you must also be aware of the difference between iMessage and SMS Text messages. The iPhone, by default, will send an iMessage when sending another text message to anyone else with an iPhone, iTouch, or iPad. This does use your data if you are not connected to wifi. In Settings, you can turn iMessage off, and then all of your texts will go through Verizon.
Also understand- iMessage will use wifi when connected to wifi, but would need cellular data connection to work when not connected to wifi. Regular SMS text messages that are long or any media will always use the cellular data and not wifi, so will not send if cellular data is turned off, even if on wifi. However, this does not count against your cap.

Exporting via Compressor may be recommended but it is slow and doesn't fully support all available filters, etc.
Try exporting the timeline as a QT Movie (the "normal" export) using Current Settings and them submit the resultant clip to Compression. Works for me...

  • HT3529 I cannot send a text message to one specific friend when they have iMessage turned off. It should go through as a text message instead of an iMessage but they never receive it. It only happens with this one person and I can receive, but not send.

Please help! I can't send a text message to one specific friend of mine when he has iMessage turned off. I can receive his texts, but he never receives mine. Both are iPhones, obviously, different carriers which shouldn't matter. Neither of us got new phones. MMS is on. All if a sudden it just happened. No major changes other than him turning iMessage off, due to a nosy brother who shares his iPad. What am I missing??

I do have SMS on. What else could it possibly be?

  • Can PC send/receive texts/calls via iPhone 5?

My iPhone 5 has poor reception where my computer is located.  Can I leave the iPhone elsewhere in the house where there is better reception and send/receive texts and calls remotely via my (Win 7) PC?  If so, how?
    Thanks,
    Ron

Contact your carrier and see if they have a microcell (femtocell) available. It's basically a small cell antenna that connects to your broadband Internet service and provides cellular service in areas where the coverage is otherwise poor or non-existant.
AT&T sells one for around $150. I've got a similar problem in my home. Coverage is fine upstairs, but downstairs, it's almost non-existant. The Microcell solves the problem quite nicely.

  • LG Cosmos phone  can not send/receive texts that are typed

    Hi,
My family  has 3 of the LG Cosmos phones and we cannot word text either the phones do not receive them even though our phones says we sent them.  They even sometimes do not go through to our other phone which is an iphone.
We have reset, we have cleared memory, we have tried everything.
Funny thing is we can send picture texts without a problem and we can send the voice text messages and they all go through.  They don't miss one.  However, if we type the text message (as in normal text) only maybe 1 in every 8 goes through. This has been happening for 2 days now.  Any suggestions? It does not matter if we are out or at home.

        Hi mewith3,
I know how important it is for your text messages to be received. We want to get to the bottom of this situation to get your messages to be delivered. Other than the messages being typed out, have you noticed any other similarities? Do you have any message signatures set? When the messages aren't delivered, are they going to other Verizon users or all providers? To those Verizon users, are the messages on your phone showing delivered? Please provide us a few more details so we can check what may causing the trouble.
    Thank you,

  • Why does it keep telling me that my security settings will not let the Adobe Reader download when I have them turned off?

I try to update the Adobe Reader and it will not let me.  I have turned the Norton Security off and it still tells me that my security settings will not allow it to download.  What can I do?

There's a little box that comes up on my computer after I try to update the Adobe Reader.  It says:  "Your current security settings will not allow this to download".  So I went into my Norton Security and disabled the antivirus program.  I don't even know if that was the "settings" that the message on my computer was meaning.  But what has happened is when I try to use the Adobe Reader XI that is on my computer, a little box comes up on my screen that says "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded" and I'm unable to get Adobe to work.

  • Where to store data when you have a single app, users can purchase add-ons for the app, and each such purchase needs new files

Hi, I have a hub app and need to give users the option to purchase various add-ons. For each such ad-on, I need to download a new set of files. Where would such files be stored, and how does it work when a new purchase is made? I cant seem to find any
    documentation to guide me.
    Thanks and regards,
    Lynn

    Hi  Lynn,
Read something about in-app purchase documentation:
    Enable consumable in-app product purchases
You can definitely store your file somewhere in your server when the customer buy your product, your app validated, download from that place.

  • Reached text limit, but can still send/receive texts?

My little brother is on my plan, which I pay for. Of course he's texting fiend, so I had to shell out for the parental controls so that I could restrict his texts to the 500 he is allotted each month.
I started this about a year ago, and I thought it was working, but last month, he was able to go over his text limit and my bill ended up being much more than it should have been. I looked at the line items, and yes, there was a significant additional charge for his extra texts.
I double checked the parental control settings, and it is indeed set to restrict his text to a total of 500. Then WHY is he able to send and recieve additional texts? If I am paying for the privilege of being able to make he doesn't go over his limit, WHY is this happening?
I need a resolution on this, I've already paid hundreds of additional dollars due to this ridiculous problem, I will not do it again. Also, my contract was up with Verizon in 2010 and I've not yet renewed it - if this continues happening, Verizon, we're going to have to break up!

    Hello ceruleanred,
I definitely understand.  If the controls are set correctly then the text limit stop should respond accordingly.  Since you have already doubled checked the settings on My Verizon please PM me with your name and mobile number so I may further assist. Thank you.

  • In two email accounts, the msgs that are downloadednjust disappear when the ipad is turned off.  They are not in the trash file, but just gone.

    If someone has an answer...
    Thannks in advance
    <Email Edited by Host>

I have an itouch that has the same two email accounts as I trying to use on the ipad.  Same accounts are set up on a desktop computer (almost never sync either one with it) and an android smartphone.  The itouch keeps msgs on it in the inbox (both accounts) and in the trash folders until I delete them...........same with the android phone.
If I download msgs to either account to the desktop where it is set up to remove them from the ISP server, then I understand they won't come to any of the other devices, but the android phone and the itouch will have them in their in boxes (they come in through the wireless router here at the house.
The problem I'm having is that the ipad is set uo just like the itouch, but it sure acts differently with regard to email..  This morning, it had about 40 msgs on one account that I use for aviation and vietnam list groups and then checking it about two hours later, all of them were gone,,,,,,,just gone and all the folders were empty.  I had not used the desktop computer during that time.
I've deleted both email accounts and started over from scratch a couple of times and that hasn't fixed the problem.............

    I have a problem.
I have 3 email addresses registered with my bb, and I turned reconciliation off for 2 of them.  But Im still getting emails!
I don't want to remove the addresses from my bb, but I just dont want to receive emails from the addresses with the core BB utlility.  I prefer using the gmail download for instance, but still want the address registered on my device, just not reconciling!
    Any advice?

It might be different for you, but with my network provider, i can add and remove (completely) e-mail accounts complete using their 'Blackberry Internet Service' website.

  • I am not able to send/receive text message on my N...

    Hello:
I bought a Nokia 5800 in India last summer. I used a local SIM card (Airtel) when I was there. I was able to send/receive text messages when I was in India.
I came back to Chicago and replaced the Airtel SIM card on my 5800 with my AT&T sim card. I have a pay-as-you-go service with AT&T. I had used a Sony-Ericsson Z300a phone with my AT&T service before I bought my 5800. I did not have any problems sending/receiving text messages with the Sony-Ericsson phone using my AT&T SIM card.
I don't have any problems using my 5800 with my AT&T SIM card for calling or sending/receiving multimedia messages. I just cannot send or receive any text messages. I have checked the message center number setting on my 5800 and it appears to be correct. I have also done a hardware reset of the 5800 and the problem remains.
    Any clues?

Hello parsar. Even if you have the correct Message Center number there, it's worth a try to delete the existing one and enter the correct one afresh. Make sure you have the latest firmware on your phone, and that there are no applications that may interfere with sending/receiving sms, like some filtering software.
    Hope this helps
And, pakiboy, resetting to factory settings (by typing *#7780#) will NOT delete anything in the phone memory.

Brand-new iPhone 4 on Verizon can't send/receive texts to other makes of phone.  It will only text to another iPhone. Error message: "Message send failure." Any idea what to do?

Yes, our plan has unlimited texting...and I was able to text with a friend who also has an iPhone, but not with anyone who has a different type of phone.
