Why is my USB mouse disconnecting and reconnecting?

Our USB mouse has been disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. We're using a Logitech Optical Mouse. It doesn't seem to matter which USB port it is plugged into. Occasionally when it becomes unconnected and doesn't reconnect, unplugging and plugging it back in will "fix" it. I've been using HardwareGrowler to keep track of this. This was occurring before we updated to 10.7. I may be imagining this but it does seem to occur more when it is running hot.
Thanks

I have yet to try a different USB mouse to see if it is the mouse itself. I did plug in my iPod and there seems to be no problem with connection there. The mouse will disconnect regardless of tempature and it seems to disconnect more during heavy usage (gaming).

ive been having a reoccuring problem with my logitech mouse disconnecting and reconnecting. as of lately it just disconnects and wont come back untill i unplug and replug it in, then it will work for a few more days.  whats intresting is say the mouse disconnects...i can unplug my ipod cable (not attached to ipod) and plug that back in, and the mouse will reconnect.  the computer is in a recording studio, it has a firewire audio interface connected, the mouse and keyboard going to seperate usb slots, an ilok, and my ipod cable.   its a macpro 3.1 running 10.6.8  any thoughts?

Time to take it back in for repairs.

Why must I continually disconnect and reconnect my airport express in order to get it to play my ITunes library on my TV?

I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 running Windows Vista.  Itunes is up to date.  I have power cycled the router several times   it is a Surfboard sbg6580.  still no luck with seeing the airplay symbol on itunes, but Isee it on my phone and can stream music via the airport with my phone.  I can see both airports on the airport utility on my laptop.  I'm stumped...

  • Envy Touchsmart 15-j105sa Continuous USB Device Dropout and Reconnect

New Envy Touchsmart 15-j105sa running an up to date version of Windows 8.1.  All HP driver and Windows updates completed prior to installing software and other USB devices except for USB WiFi adaptor and software.
USB 2.0 HDD keeps disconnecting from the port and then re-connecting.  This happens continuously about once every 30sec.  It re-connects after about 10sec and then disconnects again after about 30sec.  When connected everything seems to be working fine.  Access to the HDD is OK, it shows normally in Device Manager and Safe Disconnect.
I have uninstalled the USB drivers and restarted.  The problem persists.  I have powered the USB HDD externally.  The problem persists.  I have tried connecting to 3 of the 4 USB ports.  The problem persists.  The USB 2.0 HDD works normally on other Laptops.  When data is being transferred the dropout does not occur.  It appears to be associated with idle time on the USB HDD.
I don't get the problem when I attach a USB 3.0 HDD.  It stays connected with no dropout.  Flash drives don't have the problem.
I also have a similar issue connecting a USB Alfa WiFi Adaptor.
UPDATE:  The problem is related to an External Combo Drive.  2.5" Sata to USB /eSata HDD External Enclosure.  As long as the HDD is being accessed then there is no dropout.  As soon as the disc becomes idle I get a cycle of disconnects and reconnects as described above.  I would like to understand the cause of this issue because it will help solve the massive connect/disconnect hunting that I get with my external USB wifi adaptor.  Once the Alfa Wifi adaptor gets happy with its connection the hunting stops and it behaves normally.

Are you using the charging USB 3.0 ports or the standard USB 3.0 port to connect the device?
Charging ports have a + next to them. It really should not make a difference, but it might with your keyboard since it does require more power then, perhaps a mouse.

    1. Why don't you purchase it from Apple? I'd be wary with eBay sellers - and, after all, Apple posts their stuff everywhere, even if you live in a country without a localized Apple store webpage or local (physical) Apple stores.
    2. when it comes to adapters / cables like these, NEVER purchase ANYTHING non-Apple-manufactured! Most of the cheap(er) knock-offs don't work! That is, don't try to save on going for a cheaper alternative - it most likely won't work.

  • Keeps disconnect and reconnect

I have a retina Macbook Pro 13"(latest), iPad(3rd genernation), iPhone 5 and iPod shuffle(latest) and I am sure all their systems as well as iTunes on my Macbook Pro are latest version. The thing is that whenever I connect my iPad and iPod shuffle and try to sync using iTunes it just keeps disconnect and reconnect. At frist I thought there might be some problem with my USB port, so I tried both of my USB ports and it keeps behave like that. And the wired thing is, it did not happend to my iPhone 5 so far. So it is most likely that there are problems with the iTunes.
So I just want to ask is there anyone encounter the same problem and if you know how to fix this problem plsssssss tell me. Thx.

I think these problems were hopefully solved by recent update of Itunes.

  • IPod sync failed. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again.

Over the past month or two, I have gotten this message quite frequently with my iPod. It usually happens after I sync my iPod once, leave it hooked up to my iMac for charging, and then try to sync again (sometimes not even more than a few minutes later). I also often have trouble getting my computer to recognize the iPod (or getting my iPod to recognize that it's supposed to start syncing) without having to disconnect and reconnect it and shake the USB cord around a few times.
I had a little bit of this problem with my iPod 5G and XP PC, though no "iPod sync failed" messages ever. This is a new iPod classic and an iMac. What's going on?
Does anyone else have this happen to them?

I'd been having this same issue and kept trying all the suggestions on the forums to no avail. Then I just disabled "Enable Disk Use", which required me to first disable "Manually manage music & videos". I unchecked all of my music, videos, podcasts and photos, applied the settings, then chose which media I wanted in my iPod. I synced successfully and even cleared it out completely a couple of times to re-sync. No issues anymore.

  • USB mouse disconnects when laptop on battery

    Hello,
I am using Gnome 3.6 on 3.6.10-1-ARCH. Whenever I run my laptop on battery power, my external usb mouse disconnects after some inactivity period. If I plug it to external power source, it again starts working fine.
I suspect there must something in gnome 3.6 (weird optimization) or something to do with laptop-tools which disconnects the usb mouse after some time of inactivity to save power. How to fix this.
I referred this link, but it did not provide me way to fix this.

Update: I noticed that I had not enabled laptop mode tools so problem must be with gnome3. I have now enabled this and set my USB mouse id in blacklist, so that it does not autosuspend. Still It is getting auto suspend.

I imagine that your usb ports control is set to auto... which will suspend the device after a time of inactivity.  The solution would be to have this not set to auto... though I am not sure how to do this with laptop-mode-tools in place.  I don't use laptop-mode-tools, and it is my opinion that it actually makes things harder when you encounter things like this.  Instead of learning where the configuration for this is within /sys and then creating the necessary configuration to change it, you now learn where it is in /sys, what is changing it automagically for you, then you have to learn the intricacies of that particualr power management tool.
So although I cannot help you with yout laptop-mode-tools, the file that sets this is /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb[1-9]/power/control or /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/power without the symlinks on my machine for usb1.
Just my opinion, but with the power that comes in computers these days (for the past several years in fact), having something like laptop-mode-tools is pretty worthless.  If you just have all the settings set as though it were on "battery" all the time, I bet there would be no discernible difference.  I know I cannot tell, and then my computer probably charges ever so slightly faster because it is not set to consume more power when I plug it in.

  • HT1600 AFTER UPLOADING UPDATE , THERE IS A BLINKING LIGHT ON THE APPLE TV DEVICE WHICH IS NOT STOPPING EVEN IF YOU DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT

AFTER UPLOADING UPDATE , THERE IS A BLINKING LIGHT ON THE APPLE TV DEVICE WHICH IS NOT STOPPING EVEN IF YOU DISCONNECT AND RECONNECT

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
        1.    Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
        2.    Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
        3.    Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
        4.    Open iTunes.
        5.    Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Skype disconnects and reconnects alot

Ok so i have seen a couple posts with this issue but not exactly the same. My skype calls will work for the most part but then sometimes it will start to disconnect and reconnect constantly. Sometimes when i reconnect to the call i can hear the other person but they can never hear me. Sometimes when i reconnect i cant hear them at all. But every time we reconnect after the disconnecting starts they can never hear me and it keep disconnecting until i do my tempory fix i found. The only way i have found to fix this is to close skype completely and reopen it. That is the only way i have got it to work again. Any ideas why this is happening or what i can do to fix this

    Hi, funbuilder030,
To help diagnose this issue more closely, some more information would be helpful:
    - Hardware you use (laptop/phone/tablet brand and model)
    - Operating system (version and updates installed)
    - Skype version used
    - Internet connection used and the carrier
Anticipating what Community Ambassador Ruwim may also ask,
Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.
    ... and also,
Open Windows Event Viewer * -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for any recent error messages with timestamp corresponding to Skype crash. Copy and paste here the text from the General tab.

  • Must disconnect and reconnect earbuds to restore audio

I've noticed that if my iPod Touch shuts down on its own, when I turn in back on the volume slider doesn't appear. I have to disconnect and then reconnect the earbud plug in order to see it and to allow audio output through the earbuds. I'm using 4.1 now, but this has been going on for several months. Anybody else notice this and know what's going on? It's a 2nd generation Touch.

Stephen Patriquen1 is correct: the link given by allen a does not address the problem described in the header by ChubbyCherub, namely "The software for the iPad was corrupted during download. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again."
Like ChubbyCherub,I have faithfully and completely followed all the troubleshooting directions given, including also unplugging USB devices, even though I don’t believe any of them are relevant to a corrupted download, and repeatedly re-tried the download, to no avail.
So what is required, allen a, is a solution related to the original question that doesn’t involve doing the same thing over and over in hopes of a different outcome.
In the meantime, my iPad has been stuck in recovery mode for days.

  • Ipod disconnects and reconnects

My iPod keeps disconnecting and reconnecting to my computer. This is really annoying because it will only appear under devices for a few seconds before disconnecting. Then after about 10 seconds it will connect again and appear under devices again. Why is this happening?
    iPod Nano (1GB)   Windows XP

Mine is doing a similar act. It'll sorta update and then disconnect. This is getting very annoying. I've done everything short of re-installing windows xp!

  • When leave I nano 4th gen connected to either of my cars it no longer restarts playing when car is restarted. Instead it shows 'no entry' in the song title on the car audio display and won't play until disconnected and reconnected.

Nano has worked fine for a couple of years being left connected to either one of our cars. However, every time car is restarted it won't play without being disconnected and reconnected. I have done a full restore.
Current cars are Range Rover Sport 2011 and Jaguar XK 2011.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Thanks,

I had a similar problem. Try resetting and erasing the phone and restoring from a known good backup.

What do I do about this message? I've restored it 3 times, but this message still comes up, and i cannot put music on it now.

Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.
