Why is my USB tethering hanging?

USB tethering with my iPhone 4S has been working fine until recently but its started to hang on pages every so often (When tethered to my Mac via USB), or refuse to load them at all. But when I go on my phone to try and load the page, it loads instantly.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Anyone have any idea?

  • Why cant I usb tether my dx to my pc?

I am wondering why I can't usb tether my dx to my pc. I was told today by VZW CS reps that I may only use wifi hotspot to accomplish this, but I wish to do so using USB cable. There is lots of info in Settings how to do this, I even downloaded the file for XP. Since there is info on my phone how to do it, and even a checkbox under Settings > Wireless & networks >tethering &mobile hotspot > usb tethering, can someone explain to me why I cannot usb tether my dx to my pc? Thanks.

Thanks guys. I wanted to try out the usb tetherimg, but I'll give the wifi hotspot a workout instead. I just didn't understand why VZW didn't let me do this via usb cable, my preferred option.Fair Point has a $9.99 dsl offer, and I wanted to try out tethering, to see how well it might work for me, before I sign up for 6 mos of dsl. 20 bucks for 2gb seems over the top pricey tho.
    'Carolina hardcore ecstacy on droids'
Im confused, what does Fair Point deal have to do with USB tethering?  it uses the phones data connection no matter if you use USB or Hotspot, the only diffrence is that one has to be plugged into PC USB to use and the other connects wirelessly through wifi card..  Neither goes through another pervider.

  • Data network locked down when usb tethering with a lot of request (i.e. 3 to 4 tab pages and IRC)

Hi, i am currently using the usb tethering on my ubuntu desktop(this also happened in win8 desktop) which the data network will be locked down when open 3 to 4 tab pages in 3-4 seconds or requesting large amount of data traffic (i.e. downloading movie)
This locked down will be recovered only  after a few minutes (4 minutes at least) when there is no more request maked.
    OR reboot the phone again.
This doesn't affect receiving calls, only the data network is locked down
I do see this is a software problem as i have asked for a exchange for phone, the same thing happened again.
Does anyone get the same problem as i experienced?
    The firmware is v.114
    Thanks for help

    Hi z1CUser
based on your information, i believe there is not problem with the phone, since even second phone is doing same thing as first, what I can suggest is
    >check with different phone if possible and see whether it does same, incase 'Yes" then its might be with the internet connection i believe, you can give a call to Internet Service Provider, stating the issue faced in 2 different phones
    >if possible Refresh the Router and try to connect it again
    >Last you can try to restore the phone once

  • How to use iPhone USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without iTunes

I have a corporate laptop so didn't want to install the whole of iTunes to enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot.
Here's how you can enable USB tethering / Personal Hotspot without installing iTunes.
    1. Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    2. Extract the contents of the downloaded file using winRAR or 7zip. In particular you want the following files:
    For 32 bit systems:
    - AppleApplicationSupport.msi
    - AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi
    For 64 bit systems:
    - AppleApplicationSupport64.msi
    - AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi
Note: If you don't have either winRAR or 7zip you can do the following instead:
Start the iTunes installation, then on reaching the first screen, the required files will be extracted to your machine, perform a search for one of the files above on your C drive whilst the iTunes installation window is open, it should find them in a temp folder somewhere, you can then copy and paste them somewhere and close the iTunes installation.
    3. Before continuing, ensure your iphone is not connected to the computer. Then, install AppleApplicationSupport.msi (or AppleApplicationSupport64.msi for 64 bit machine)
    4. Install AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDevice6464.msi)
    5. Restart your computer
    6. After your computer has restarted, enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone (select USB only option) and plug in your iPhone using the USB cable. Some device drivers will install and then your computer should automatically connect to the iPhone internet connection.

        Hi kveille,
Using the personal hotspot can become tricky as there are three different options available. Based on your details, it sounds like you've been trying the option to connect using WiFi on your computer and iPad. We have the steps needed for iOS 6 to activate and use WiFi so I encourage to use these exact steps to get it to work http://bit.ly/SFLD2b. You will need to check that the MacBook Pro is setup to pick up the network the right way. Check by following http://bit.ly/PJkOWZ. Step 9 demonstrates how to find the network name that you can look for on your computer. Try these steps and keep us posted to the status of the connection.
    Thank you,

  • Why does my iPhone sync hang at 'backing up'?

Why does my iPhone sync hang at 'backing up'?

Did iTunes ever create a successful backup during a sync? If yes it should be listed there.
Alternativly you can make sure that the iphone backup folder is empty and try again to sync. The folder is located here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • USB Tethering; Camera to Xoom Tablet

I have tethered my Xoom to my digital camera via a female to female usb connector.  USB tethering is still grayed out in my settings.  Anyone know how to get this to work so I can xfer pictures from my digital camera to my Xoom tablet?

Since posting my original question I've found out from Motorola support how to change the setting for PTP, this however still did not allow me to see the photos on my digital camera and copy them to the Xoom tablet.  Now I'm waiting for a call back from Nikon the maker of the camera to see if it supports PTP.  I suspect it does not, which would suck.

  • Does apple have a fix for loss of iphone usb tethering following itunes upgrade?

Has apple or someone produced a software patch to fix the loss of iPhone usb tethering following itunes software upgrade?

    1. Now about looking at the detailed usage summary online, you can not go by it to see the exalt date/time stamp of the data usage. Because, by design the cell towers will collect and store certain data usage for up to a six-hours period. After the six-hour period, then the cell towers will release the stored data usage to the company's servers. And at that time, the collected data usage will be recorded on your detailed usage summary online. For a long time, I brainwork that I had caught Verizon with their hand in the cookie jar for say. Because I knew that we were not using data usage at these odd-ball hours of the night or day. Yet, now I have learn that this is just not the case.
    2. Here is a web site that may help you at http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/09/fix-ios-8-wifi-problems.html .....

  • USB-tethering issues (OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 10.7, iOS 6)

S.O.S. I've been getting sick for weeks now after every step I've taken using the group discussion I wasn't successful literally at all. I even clean install my laptop desperate to regain the connection. I really like the usb-tethering, please please help me on this??
I have MB white running SNOW LEOPARD with iTUNES 10.7  and iOS 6 iPhone 4s yet still not detecting USB on my Network under System Preferences.

I have now solved my tethering problem - I didnt need to use terminal.
I downloaded the kext utility, unzipped it and put the .app file into my applications folder, then I dragged the kext file from my laptop (AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext   version 2.3.0)
The utility replaced the one that itunes 10.7 must have installed or modified into a backup folder and installs  the one from my laptop where I was still on itunes 10.6.3 and it has the same permissions as the other files in that folder system/library/extensions
I rebooted and plugged my iphone in via the usb charger/data cable and immediatly the system put up a window stating:
A new interface has been detected
the "iphone USB" network interface has not been set up.  To set up this interface use network preferences"
I then clicked the blue button NETWORK PREFERENCES
This showed the iphone in NOT CONNECTED status so I clicked on ASSIST me and just keep going, you will notice the red dot beside the iphone changing to orange (no IP address) then it changes to green and all is well!!
Thanks a million to Hibernian56 and whoever made kext-utility!!
No thanks to apple for not testing their software properly and wasting my time with hours of reading online!!!
Im on 10.6.8 on both machines
The problem with the kext file that was updated by itunes 10.7 was that the machine no longer detected the iphone thru the usb cable.  Thanks to the other users on here its now fixed!  ;-)

  • IMAQ USB Snap hangs all of LabVIEW?!?

I am having trouble with my USB cameras hanging a production machine. We are using 4 usb cameras from uEye for inspection and vision correction on a pick and place robot. The application is multithreaded, yet when the SNAP VI hangs, all threads in the application hang.
I can repeat this problem by disconnecting the USB cable to a camera. The system does not recover even after the USB is reconnected.
I have found in the past the Microsofts USB driver power managment seems to have an effect on the reliability of the USB system. The machine is also exposed to vibration which could cause intermittent connections.
While we are trying to solve all of these issues, I seem to have no way to detect if the camera is present before snapping the image. I cannot seem to prevent the system from snapping while the USB is disconnected.
Is there anything than can be done in order to have the SNAP vi return an error rather than hanging, or to tell the status of the device before snapping?
I have attached two example VI's which both repeatably cause the freeze. Just run the sample, plug in the usb camera, then disconnect it.
Im not sure if this is a LVDirectShow level issue, a DirectShow level issue, or a Camera Manufacturer(driver) issue (uEye).
If anyone has another brand of usb camera and can give my tests a quick run I would appreciate the feedback.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to share Windows XP internet connection to iPhone 4 via USB tethering?

My computer (Windows XP) connects to the internet, and I want to share that connection to my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1). Is it possible to do that via USB tethering? I know that it's possible for iPhone 4 to share its internet connection to others via Personal Hotspot, so can the opposite be done?

You wouldn't be able to do that via USB, however if your computer had the ability to transmit wireless from the computer, you would be able to connect the iPhone to it via wifi. Computers have the ability to do that with the correct equipment.

  • USB tethering with OSX 10.6.4 (3GS)

After the 10.6.4 Snow Leopard update I'm unable to use USB tethering for accessing the network.
It works OK with Bluetooth though.
    Anyone seen a similar behavior?

Hi; it turns out there was nothing wrong... just that I was running a virtual machine under VMware Fusion which was grabbing USB devices by default; this caused the iPhone to become attached to the virtual machine.
Telling VMware that I didn't want it to connect to the iPhone fixed the problem.
    It's not really 10.6.4 related.
