Why is one old photo forcing itself to the top of my Photo Stream?

Hi,
My question is a variant on "how do I remove a single photo from Photo Stream?". I know Apple in their infinite wisdom don't let you do that, but I have an issue which is not of my own doing that I can't solve otherwise.
Someone emailed me a photo of my cousin on his first day at school, and I saved it from the email into the photo library on my iPhone 4S using the 'long hold and Save Image' process. It was duly saved to the library, then added to the Photo Stream.
Ever since this one photo has forced itself into the 'most recent' slot in Photo Stream. I've taken hundreds of photos since it was first saved from the email and they all go into the Photo Stream but this saved photo always jumps to be the most recent one; since saving it, it's the only photo I've ever seen as the thumbnail for Photo Stream on my iPhone.
Deleting it from my iPhone makes no difference, obviously. So how the heck do I get this image to either behave properly or just get out of my Photo Stream altogether?
Cheers,
Owen

No, the opposite is occurring. Like I say, this errant photo, taken weeks ago and added to my iPhone photo reel from my iPhone mail weeks ago, is acting like its the most recent photo within Photo Stream. It always stayed in the same place in the iPhone photo reel but in Photo Stream it always, always jumps to the slot that should be occupied by the most recently added photo.

  • Why is there a strange grey object on the top left corner of my iPhone?I have included a photo

Why is there a strange grey object on the top left corner of my iPhone? I have included a photo. It randomly appears and disappears.

Hey Scott! Like I said, I thought I had done some damage -- even though the drop was just a couple of inches that was my very first thought, but when it came and went with which app I was in (or not) I knew it wasn't a damaged SCREEN.  So I wondered if it was a different damaged part, memory or some such.
When I saw that others had the exact same shape, I could only imagine that perhaps the phone was indicating it was running a diagnostic, had been forcefully dropped, had a faulty/damaged accelerometer or some other purposeful object.  It clearly wasn't random, it was a definite shape.
Hey Paul!  I'm hoping they've seen the issue and tried replacing a few parts or something...  Ya never know.  As a (mostly) retired guy I have the time!
I also mentioned in a kind of oblique way that I had enabled the Kanji keyboard.  I should also mention that I have the field strength test enabled so that I am able to see the -db numbers instead of the antenna bars.  That's right in the same area, so it could be related.... maybe... or not. The screen was unlocked when this happened and I'm guessing I pushed a whole lotta buttons and/or icons as I was grabbing at it... I wonder if it is possibly an easter egg of some sort -- just the right combo of touches.  Then again, it bounced right on THAT corner... LOL
That's the only stuff I've ever done to the phone.  It's never been jailbroken or anything like that.  It has taken a few falls in its lifetime but none resulting in any obvious damage.
It's a 32GB iPhone 3Gs and it is now 2 years old (bought June 27, 2009.) I'm just happy that it seems to be OK.  While Apple's stock may be the largest market cap in the US, my portfolio sure isn't.

  • Workaround--How I put old photo stream on new device

So I bought a new iPhone and turned on PhotoStream and was pretty upset that only the last 30 days worth of photo stream photos made it back to my device...  I did a lot of reading and found out that nothing was set-up wrong, it was just the way photo stream works.
Here's the skinny, for any device only the last 30 days worth of photo stream will be transfered to said device upon activation of PhotoStream--for those of us that want to have their old photo stream photo's on their new device there is a work around.
First, open iPhoto and select "iCloud" from the menu bar on the left, this will show you your photo stream. What was curious to me was that my iPhoto on my Mac Mini had 376 photos, as did my trusty old iPad, but not my brand new iPhone 5S, it only had 100 photos... This is actually how PhotoStream works though.
So to fix the disparity, and to keep from KEEPING duplicates, you need to go back to the first photo in your PhotoStream on your computer, for our purposes we'll call this photo 1 in your stream, and then highlight through the latest photo that is NOT on your new device, for me this was photo 276.
Next set-up a new folder on your desktop, and copy the missing photo's to the new folder.
Now, wait for them to copy to the desktop folder, this should take a few minutes,,,
Next, go back to iPhoto and delete the selected photos from your photo stream, a warning comes up and says this action cannot be undone, hit ok.
Then select all of the photos from the new folder, and drag them back to iPhoto, if it asks you about duplicates, hit import.
Now, wait while your photo stream re-builds ( this will likely only work for 1,000 photos or less )
Once the photo stream is correct across your devices, for me it was my Mac Mini, my iPad and my iPhone, go back to iPhoto and select the "Last Import" tab from the menu bar on the left, select all of the photos (they are dupicates) and delete them from there.
You will be left without duplicates and a rebuilt photo stream across your devices.

Set it up to use the same Apple ID as your other device, then sync your computer to it in iTunes.

  • Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (Impossible?)

Please can someone give me a straight forward answer to this question? I have read through the other similar forum questions and I still don't feel that I have found a definitive answer / solution.
Is it possible to do the following please:
Two iPhones + One Mac = One Shared Photo Stream (i.e. three devices that all have access to and update the Photo Stream as photographs are taken)
    If so, how?
If not, am I really the only person that wants to do this?
    Thanks (in anticipation).

Create a free email account at gmail, yahoo, outlook.com, or one of the other email services and use that to create the second Apple ID.
Also, create separate user accounts on your computer for each of you to avoid unintentionally mixing up your data.

  • Why does my iCloud photo stream create duplicates of every photo?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Air, on which I store all my photos.
I routinely export my photos from my iOS devices to my MacBook Air, and view whatever photos that I have through photo stream.
On my iOS device and MacBook, though, every photo has a duplicate of itself, even though in the main library I only have one of each photo—no duplicates at all.
Why are duplicates showing up in my iCloud photo stream even though I have no duplicates in the actual library itself?

  • How can I retrieve old Photo Stream photos from a lost iPhoto Library?

My laptop was stolen and with it an external drive that had my iPhoto library.  I had an old backup and when I opened the backup and turned on Photo Stream, I saw all my old photos appear again!  After a short while, it was removing old photos from the photostream and replacing them with newer ones.  I'm now missing months of Photo Stream photos that I really want back.  I tried creating a new library and enabling Photo Stream to try to capture those missing images, but I am not able to see anything older than Oct.  I could really use some help if somebody knows a way to get those memories back...
    Thanks
    -Rob

    I had an old backup
What kind of backup? Do you have a Time Machine Backup of your complete system from the time before the laptop was stolen?
To restore the Photo Stream images from that time you need to restore the folder
    your home folder /Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/Assets
This folder contains the PhotoStream pictures that were part of the PhotoStream at that time.
To restore this folder from TimeMachine, open a Finder window showing this folder, make it the active window, and then enter TimeMachine. Go back in time in the TimeTunnel, till you see the correct date. Don't restore to the library but to a folder on the Desktop.

  • Why is my shared photo stream taking up space on my iPhone when I have turned off photo sharing?

I have an iPhone 5c with iOS 8.3. It's only an 8GB iPhone, so I only have about 5.2GB of space to use. So I have to be very picky about what stays and what goes on my iPhone. Photos is one of those things that don't stay on my phone long. I have deleted all of my pictures out of my albums (both camera roll and recently deleted) and there can be no photos found in my library. In settings, I turned off all photo sharing capabilities, so I shouldn't be getting shared photos from family members on my phone and stuff. So why does my storage say that shared photo stream is taking up 54.6MB? I would like it to say 0MB. Am I missing something? I've included a couple screenshots to help clarify things. Thanks for your help!

This is what I mean. I'm seeing the 3.9 KB usage for Photo Stream under General>UIsage>Photos and Camera, nothing to do with the storage on iCloud and I have Photo Stream and everything to do with iCloud and photo sharing off. However, I may have had Photo Stream on before for a few weeks before I turned it off long ago. Could that data/used space just be a few photos that were once in Photo Stream before I turned it off if I've had it on before?

  • Old Photo Stream photos don't show up on my new iPhone

My old iPhone only had 16GB and was running out of space, so I turned Photo Stream off on it. However, I have Photo Stream enabled on my Mac, and there are 500+ photos in the Photo Stream album there. I just bought a 64GB iPhone 4S last night, so I enabled Photo Stream on it. However, nothing shows up in it on the iPhone, even when I'm on WiFi. To verify that Photo Stream was even working, I took a picture this morning on the iPhone - it shows up in the Camera Roll and Photo Stream on the iPhone, and it shows up on my Mac. So, my Mac says that there are 504 photos in my Photo Stream, but the iPhone says there's only 1. I verified that my iPhone has more than 20% battery, Photo Stream is enabled, and I am on WiFi.
How can I get the rest of my Photo Stream on my iPhone?

Answered my own question. Net: iPhoto was lying to me. All the photos it said were in my Photo Stream actually were not. On my Mac, System Preferences -> iCloud, I unchecked Photo Stream, then signed out of iCloud. It asked me whether I wanted it to keep or delete my contacts and other things from the Mac - I told it to delete them. iPhoto then showed me that the Photo Stream was empty, and asked if I wanted to turn it on. Instead, I logged back into iCloud on the System Preferences panel. Photo Stream was still unchecked, but I went back to iPhoto and now chose the option to turn on Photo Stream there. After a minute, I saw only the one photo I took yesterday. I dragged a bunch of photos from my "Photos" library to the Photo Stream, and after a few minutes, they started showing up on my iPhone.
I had spent an hour on the phone with Apple Tech Support before this - talked first to iPhone support, then they transferred me to iApp support when they somehow figured out that I only had one photo on iCloud. The iPhoto person told me that there was essentially no way for them to do that, and that it looked like an iPhone problem, then transferred me to a "supervisor" who sounded like she was from iPhone support again. She had me reboot the phone, and wanted me to reset it completely, but when I balked at losing all my passwords, she told me she had to consult with other people and would call me back in 15 minutes, but sent me her contact info just in case. In the meantime, I figured it out myself.

  • How to download old Photo Stream to my PC?

Hi. How can I download old photos from Photo Stream to my PC? I have a new laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 with iCloud Control Panel 2.0.2.187. New pictures taken today download automatically and correctly to My Photo Stream folder (good). But old pictures from before the new laptop aren't downloaded (not good) even though I see 1,000 pictures in the Photo Stream on my iPhone. My old laptop had all the pictures in the My Photo Stream folder but that laptop was stolen so I'm trying to recover those pictures. Thanks.

I found a hack. Go in the My Photo Stream Album in the iPhone. Click Edit. Select the photos. Click Share to open the menu of options. Here I tried both options: Copy and Save to Camera Roll; I don't know which option is the one that actually worked. Then I went to the Camera Roll Album in my iPhone and the iPhone started copying photos from Photo Stream to the Camera Roll Album. I had to do this back and forth between Copy/Save and PhotoStream/CameraRoll a couple of times until the copying picked up; I don't know what are the distilled steps. Then I connected my iPhone to the laptop and saved the files as usual. I had to do this tedious process in chunks of hundreds as the iPhone was unable to get the 1,000 photos at once. That's how I was able to download all my photos from Photo Stream. Also, Photo Stream doesn't seem to remember the original filenames so the images are re-numbered.

  • Messages application forcing itself to the front

    Hi,
I've just bought a new Mac Mini, and am now happily running Mountain Lion (10.8.3). The problem I'm having is that the Messages application seems to push itself to the front of whatever else I'm doing, when I receive a message, even though I have it included in my Notifications in System Preferences to show a banner notification.
For example, I could be using Safari, and then I receive a text - Messages will sometimes then shove Safari aside and become the focus of attention. I thought the point of Notifications was to let me receive the banner and let me continue working in my current app! I've noticed that this seems to occur most often if I don't have Messages currently open, so the messages are being pushed to it as a closed app; I don't know why this should make a difference, but it does seem that if I have Messages open, but hidden, I will just receive the notification and not be pushed straight to Messages.
This must either be a bug in the current version of OSX or the Messages application, but if anyone else has found a way to stop this happening, I'd be most grateful!
    Thanks for reading my query,
    Darren

    Hi,
There is a setting in the Messages Preferences which by Default "Listens" to the various services that the accounts Log in to for Off Line Messages.
This includes AIM and iMessages for certain but may vary depending on the Jabber server you use.
There is an support app called IMAgent in later versions (It used to be called iChatAgent)
One of the things it does is start up on Computer launch and realistically it is partially logged in to the Services. (it will show you as On line).
In the case of AIM as well as the Setting set at AIM for Off Line Messages this setting in iChat and Messages is also needed.
If you then get an Off Line Message (As far as you are concerned with the app Closed) then IMAgent will start up the App.
This of course will be in Front of any existing app the same as any other app start up would be.
The Notifications are shown as the IMAgent is "listening" and partially logged in.
Go to Messages > Preferences and tick the line about "When I Quit, set my Status to Off Line".
This will stop the IMAgent Listening for Off line IMs for AIM and iMessages from the iMessages server.
In turn this will stop the app from "popping up in front".
As SCalkins has said there may also be some play in whether an App is in Full Screen (different Space) mode that is effecting this as well.
