Why is "Open in Camera Raw" greyed out?

I'm using CS2 and recently upgraded to Mac OSX 10.5.8 from 10.4.11. Camera Raw has never been available to me, but I really need it now because there is no version of Canon's raw file utility (Digital Photo Professional) that will work with 10.5 on a Powerbook G4. The Camera Raw plugin is in it's correct place in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plut-Ins/CS2/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin. Neither Camera Raw.plugin 3.6 nor 3.7 works. I am using a Canon 40D. Please help.

Support for Canon 40D was added in ACR 4.2, which works with Photoshop CS3 not CS2. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3730
However you can download and install the latest DNG converter, convert your files using the save options compatible to camera raw 4.1 and later. You will then be able to open your 40D dng files in CS2.

• Open in Camera Raw greyed out (Mac)

I am unable to open files in Bridge CS3 using this option which is greyed out. I have downloaded the latest upgrade (4.3) twice, checked the location of the plug in (...>CS3>File Formats), purged cache, checked permissions, read forum submissions here and still cannot find a solution. Powermac G4 i.25 GHz, 1 Gb DDR Ram, Mac OS 10.4.11, Adobe CS3, Photoshop 10.0.1, Bridge 2.1.1.9 Is there any other action I can take please?
Ouch! That is pathetically little RAM. Max that machine out with as much RAM as it will take.
While you're still running on such a miserly amount of RAM, make sure you do not let Photoshop use more than about 45% of available RAM, or you'll be starving the OS and Bridge of RAM.

• Open in Camera raw grayed out for some tifs not others, bridge

I searched but could not find a solution. CSR. PC. Windows xp. In CS4 Bridge the option to open with Camera raw is grayed out in the file menu for some tifs and not others - It shows up grayed out on the file menu, but doesn't show at all when right clicking, even with the files where open with camera raw is not grayed out in the file menu. I have purged the cache, deleted all temp files, closed both bridge and photoshop and still I cannot open the tif in camera raw. It is grayed out. If I go to the pic I touched up yesterday the option is not grayed out. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

My intent is to batch process in Camera Raw -- my preferences have always been set to use camera raw for TIF and JPG files, and I have never had a problem accessing Camera Raw either directly in PhotoShop itself, or Bridge.

Uh, this is a forum...not an email tech support organization...
As for your issue, it's simply not clear what you are doing or what issue you have. Can you not open the scanned images via Camera Raw from within Bridge? If you can then you will need to go through each image and adjust the ACR settings before you would be able to process them. Depending on how you set up your actions, Photoshop's Batch may or may not catch settings...that part is pretty complicated.
Also, I would question your use of JPEGs vs TIFFs. I would suggest scanning as 16 bit TIFF and running those through Camera Raw...you will be loosing a lot to scan into 8 bit JPEG and then re-running through Camera Raw. You really want to be sending ACR 16 bit images...

• Open camera raw greyed out in Bridge

I reinstalled my CS3 Photoshop and Bridge after replacing my hard drive in my Macintosh Pro desktop. All works well until I tried to use Bridge to open camera raw. "open camera raw" is greyed out and there is no way to open those files in Photoshop.
Everything in the rest of the software seems OK.
Thanks for any advice from you folks.

Bridge: Apply all CS3 updates in order, bottom to top.
Photoshop Version CS3 (not CS3 International), Start from the bottom with Buffering Extensions, 10.0.1 update, and you can go all the way to Adobe Camera Raw 4.6
If you have a camera models beyond what's supported in 4.6 and your OSX is 10.7 or later, download the 8.7.1 DNG converter.

• Batch of images opened in Camera Raw appearing out of sequence

Hello!
I'm using Photomechanic to select groups of images that I then want to adjust in Camera Raw. If I select 15 or so images, they do not appear in Camera Raw as per numerical sequence, but in some kind of random order, which makes adjusting take longer since similar images are not appearing together.
I'd like the images to appear in order as per sequence number. How can I fix this?
I'm using photoshop cs6 and a mac oxs10.6.8.
Thanks!

Usually, overall yellow/warm casts can be easily and quickly reduce or
eliminated by bumping the White Balance's Temperature slider down a little
bit (e.g., from 4500 K to 4300 K).

Jim, thanks for your reply. I think this will help me. I also upgraded to
Camera RAW 5.4, and there appear to be some more profile options, such as
Adobe Standard. It looks like this works pretty well. I will have to do some
more testing at a later time with the CR defaults as well.

• Tiff previously edited in ACR will not open in Camera RAW from Bridge

Yes, I have googled this and found instances going back to 2010 with no satisfactory answer. I have Photoshop 5.1 and the latest ACR and Bridge that work with it. 2011 MAC Mini 10.8.2.
I scanned a landscape oriented printed email image at 800 spi as a portrait orientation and saved it as a tiff. I opened this tiff in Preview and decided it needed more than minor tweaks so I opened it in ACR from Bridge, made a few adjustments and saved it. I thought I could see what I was doing better if it was in landscape orientation again so I opened it in Preview and rotated 90 deg CCW, saved it as a tiff. Going to Bridge I found Open in Camera Raw greyed out. I went back to Preview to see if I could get what I needed in its Tools while viewing it in landscape. Adjustments took forever this time, so I gave up and took a look at the image characteristics. Rotating in Preview had changed the image size to 3.3333...... times larger at 240 ppi still aRGB, still a tiff. This has never happened before, including slow adjustments
I duplicated the rotated file and changed it back to 800 ppi and normal size, went to Bridge, Camera Raw still greyed out. Original unrotated image
that had been edited in ACR and saved will still open in ACR.
All kinds of strange things have happened since updating to 10.8.2, but I don't think this is one of them because of the complaints I have seen that date back to 2010. I did a full maintenance routine, i e cleared RAM, reboot in single user with fsck -fy, repaired permissions, back up with SuperDuper which repairs permissions again. Then I tried Bridge again, original will open, rotated won't.
Anyone know the answe?

The answer is that making edits in ACR and saving it creates layers in the tiff and Bridge will then not open it again in ACR unless you flatten it. I still don't know why Preview increased the image size by 3.333.....x or why ACR increased the tiff file size by 2.6x and why the flattened tiff is 2x the file size of the original scan but the image dimensions are the same. This stuff apparently is above the pay grade of anyone in google, too.

• Bridge File Open in camer raw, is grayed out. Camera raw works in PS.

Why, when a raw file open in Bridge with a double click opens in camera raw, that same file in bridge the 'open camera raw' option in the file menu is grayed out?

There are 3 places to check this option, 1 in Bridge preferences itself, 1 in the camera raw preferences via Bridge and the last one in the PS preferences from PSCS3 itself.
They all should have a checkmark. But there are some issues with this option. You might also want to refresh the preferences with restarting Bridge an holding down option key and after doing so again check and set the prefs to your wishes.

• My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preference to open in Camera Raw.

My issue started as ACR grayed out in Bridge using PS CC. No option in preferences to open in Camera Raw. After browsing this forum I downloaded the most recent ACR and installed. Now Bridge stalls on the "building crieria" screen. There is a message to purge the cache but that screen stalls as well. I have force quite multiple times and re-started. Any suggestions?

As far as i know, photoshop cs2 and adobe bridge 1 (cs2) could not open jpegs or tiffs into camera raw, only camera raw files.
I believe photoshop cs3 was the first version to allow jpegs to be opened in camera raw.
Are you sure you had photoshop cs2 before?
If on the other hand, you can't open camera raw files that you used to be able to open, then you probably just need to update the camera raw plugin to version 3.7

• Bridge CS3 "Open in Camera Raw" unavailable (grayed out)

I am using Bridge CS3 (2.0.0.975; and Photoshop CS3) under Vista Home Premium. I have two accounts on this system (one administrative "root," and my primary limited user account).
My problem: under my primary account (even if I switch it to administrative), unless I open raw files with ACR, I cannot access "Open in Camera Raw..." under the file menu (as it is grayed out and inaccessible while trying to open jpg files, etc.). However, using the administrative account I can access/use the command. I tried uninstalling CS3, switching my primary to administrative and reinstalling using my primary account, but it still appears grayed out and I still cannot open files using the abbrev "Ctrl+R." Note, I can open jpg files in ACR, but this must be the default for all jpg files not ones that I select to open.
Also, under preferences>Labels, I need to uncheck the "Require the Control Key to Apply Labels and Ratings" every time Bridge is restarted as it will not save from startup to startup. Any help is appreciated. --Greg

I am trying to open files in Camera raw from Bridge but get the following message.
"Bridge's parent application is not active."
Both Bridge and CS5 are open and I have opened camera raw previously.
Any suggestions.

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

The video shows replacing a current DLL file with one from last year - the key issue being that the files found in the Bridge and Photoshop folders are DIFFERENT. Why would this be? I checked a PS CS5.1 installation myself and the files are already the same. Is there an illegitimate copy of Photoshop being used or something, causing these files to differ? -Noel

• Why Does Photoshop cs5 Camera RAW not open CRW files

I need help bad.I am running Windows XP Pro.I had to get Adobe help to install a update to photoshop to get it to open. That part is working.Yesterday I tried to go thru some of my CRW Raw negatives,They will not open in camera raw or bridge or mini bridge. When I try to open it in Photoshop cs5, a box pops up that says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. My CRW RAW Negatives are stored on CD-R Disks. So Itried to open them in photoshop CS2 and they opened. If no one knows how to fix this problem there is an Adobe site where you can chat with a tech. online but I forgot how to find it.Does anyone know the site I am talking about?....Thanks.

• Why is my "Open in Adobe Audition" greyed out in PP cs6?

I have the cs6 master collection, pc, with all the updates yet my "Open in Adobe Audition" greyed out in PP cs6?
I cant dynamic link from PP cs6 to audition cs6. Encore & AFX dynamic links work. Audition opens fine on its own & works fine.

For those of you visiting this page because you're having this problem, what's happened is that Adobe, in it's infinite wisdom, has installed a second folder of program files when updating from 6.0 to 7.0 (or perhaps a smaller update). You need to eliminate duplicate folders so Premiere Pro understands where to look. I noticed that my Audition was all by itself in a second Adobe folder, so I moved its contents to the other Adobe folder with the rest of the program's files and made sure they sat squarely in the Audition folder where they once were. I then right clicked on one of the .sesx files and opened it with Audition and viola. I can edit Premiere audio in Audition again.
PS Adobe, I literally use this ONLY because the denoiser in Premiere Pro doesn't work for the first 2 seconds you play a clip. It takes away noise nicely, just never for the first two seconds after I hit the play button, as if it's trying to use that time to figure out what to remove. If it worked correctly, I wouldn't hear the noise go away in my videos after the first two seconds of a clip and I wouldn't have to export to Audition and waste hard-drive space and time.
