Why is os 6 upgrade causing my iphone battery to drain?

Why has the os 6 upgrade caused my iphone 4 battery to drain unusually fast?

when I use the computer usb port to charge the battery, I found something strange:
battery indicator is showing 100% from my iphone within a hour
battery indicator is still showing "charging" from iTunes after two hours.
After two and half hours, the battery indicator is showing "charged" from the itunes.
The battery indicator might make you think your iphone's battery is fully charged from the iphone but it doesn't.
I had same problem from my 4s after upgarded to iOS 6 but Charged the battery overnight or more than two or three hours and it works fine now.

Ref: iphone 3G. I was visiting the US last week.  My iphone battery completely drained overnight. I re-charged it but ever since it has either come up with a message saying it's registering or saying I need to register it.  I'm concerned that if I re-register it on itunes I'll lose all my data.  I originally registered it a couple of years or so back, when it was new.  Any advice much appreciated.

Thank you for quick reply.  The data is still there - every so often when I switch it on, it comes up with the main icon screen, rather than the emegency calls only screen (which it does most of the time), and I can get to my contacts, photos, and so on, but it won't connect to any mobile/cell network provider, including my network here in the UK - O2.

  • Why am I having problems with my iphone battery holding a charge after downloading newest update?

Can someone please explain why my battery is not holding a charge as it did prior to the IOS 7.1 update download? Is there a way to fix phone so battery will last more than a day?

My iphone battery is loosing 1% per minute talking on a call - that is not exceptable given that it never behaved this way prior to the 7.1 update. I have gone through and turned off everything that I read that may be causing the new batterey drain - but nothing is helping.

  • Does SMS relay iOS 8.1 cause extra iPhone battery usage?

I was messing with both SMS relay the other day and noticed that my battery drained almost twice as fast..
I was also messing with handoff and basically just testing the new integration features between Yosemite and iOS8.1
But my question is about SMS relay.. Does anyone know if this will us up more iPhone battery than if I wasn't using SMS relay and just SMSing from the iPhone itself?
Does SMS relay work via bluetooth? Could this be a cause for extra battery usage? It could be possible that I was jus using my phone a bit extra that day but I just want to make sure as I have SMS relay turned off for now, don't want battery life dropping..

I had the same problem. I realized that it had everything to do with my calendar app. My iCalendar was having a difficult time fetching information from my Outlook and Yahoo Calendar. Causing my battery percentage to decline at a very rapid rate. (50% in a 4 hour time frame). I resolved the  problem by going into my Settings >" Messaging , Contact , Calendar" Setting > Clicking on one of my selected Accounts ( Outlook or Yahoo) and turning off the Calendar Sync. The problem seemed to go away after doing this. Now I'm only using 4% battery life in a 4 hour time frame in StandBy Mode. Well I Can only hope that this will help resolve the battery drainage issue. Good Luck ....

  • IPhone battery got drained to 0 by low network

My iPhone 4 had abnout 75% battery today. I went in to a place where the wifi and cell phone network was very low but occasionally visible. It had not been connected to the local wifi at all.  In a few hours, I realized my phone was completely dead - drained to 0 and off.  I assume it was because it was trying to get hold of the very low cell phone signal (and/or wifi) - that was way too fast to drain 75% of my battery.   Is this plausible and if so, how do I prevent it?  It's terrible to think that just by going somewhere with poor signal, it can drain my phone super-quickly, for no useful reason (I wasn't trying to use it!), without telling me. Surely there must be a way to disable this?

The magnet in the cover "could" cause lower reception and thus cause the EDGE or 3G antenna to use more power to boost the signal causing the battery to drain faster. It's a known fact that an iPhone will eat through battery in low 3G areas, with 3G on, trying to maintain that 3G connection.

  • HT4528 Upgrade caused my iPhone to restore!

I just upgraded my iphone 4s and the screen went black and asked me to connect the phone to itunes to restore. I don't want to lose any of my pictures, how can I back track and pretend like I never wanted an update in the first place? This is so frustrating. Aren't updates meant for IMPROVEMENTS? My phone was working just fine before! HELP!

If the device is in recovery mode, the data is already lost.
For what silly reason did you attempt an iOS update without first backing up the device?

  • Does it look like iOS 7 upgrade caused original iPhone cords to lose connectivity with car USB port?  Mine broke.

Really frustrating experience given how much we rely on our phones.

If I plug it into a wall outlet, the phone complaints about "Incompatible accessory", but begins charging.  The problem is clearly at the software level, as the charge rate is noticeably slower.

    Hi there,

    Battery life seems short
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.
Note: Charging with a FireWire-based power source is not supported, except on original iPhone.

  • IPhone battery is terrible if celluar data is switched on

My iphone battery life is terrible if celluar data is switched on. I am using an iPhone 5 on a 3G tarriff.
With 3G celluar data switched on, im lucky to get 4 hours of usuage out of my iphone. However if I turn celluar data off and just use WiFi, then it lasts for up to 10 hours of usuage (currently at 59% with 4hrs 55mins usage).
I've done all the usual things, brightness right down, bluetooth off, location services off, siri off..
Is there anything I can do to help save battery with celluar data on? As it literally dies at 1% a minute when i use it.
    Many Thanks.

  • Iphone 5  battery is draining rapidly.

Since I got my ipad mini, my iphone battery is draining rapidly. I've always boasted about my phone battery life but no more.
    Is there a connection?

Did this happen when you updated to 6.0.2? My battery life has been great in the past but I have noticed that ever since 6.0.2 it is draining faster than before.
If this is indeed the case it may not be fixed until 6.1 soon.
Just to be sure, if you have Bluetooth enabled but are not using it I would disable it. Hard reset your phone and see if that helps make a difference for you.

    See this tip --> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

  • Why won't my Mac detect my iPhone which was just upgraded to iOS 6.1.  My other phone still at 6.0.1 is detected just fine.

Why won't my Mac detect my iPhone 4 which was just upgraded to iOS 6.1.  My other iPhone 4 is still at 6.0.1 and is detected just fine.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Everything was working ok before the upgrade and still works except for the detection.  Coincidence?

After 4 updates to Xcode it started to connect again.  Now it's working fine.

  • I just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and before I delete my old phone, I want to make sure all my photos were in icloud, but I can't find them anywhere. Why? I know it may take weeks to download my 14,000 pics, but I want to make sure they're there.

Extract the photos from the phone to your computer like you would with any other digital camera.
PhotoStream is NOT permanent storage and iCloud photos is in beta, meaning it's not fully cooked yet and you may lose data stored in it.

  • HT4859 If I upgrade to an Iphone 4s, can I delete the account from my old Iphone and will it cause any problems?

I have upgraded to an Iphone 4s from an Iphone, can I delete the icloud account of the old phone on my new one without it causing any problems? it seems to have a lot of storage  (3.3Gb)

You should be able to copy all of your purchases (apps, music, films etc) from your current iPhone to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. As long as they remain available in the store then apps can be re-downloaded, music can be re-downloaded in some countries, and TV shows and films in fewer (and even where films can be re-downloaded not all film studios have agreed to it) - ringtones and audiobooks can't be re-downloaded.
    Re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
In terms of the apps content and settings, then if you backup the phone to your computer's iTunes then you should be able to restore that backup onto your new phone : how to backup and restore. Passwords (email, router, website) won't be restored onto a different device so you will need to re-enter them on your new phone.
You can also copy photos off your current phone. Just in case the backup and restore doesn't work (it should but it's best to be safe), you may also want to copy any important documents off your current phone as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.
