Other is what cannot be classified into the other categories, and , when as high as yours, corrupt files

  • Why is other taking so much space?

I've never liked icloud cuz it always wants so much space.. anyways i had an ipod 5th gen witch i dropped and got it replaced and b4 I replaced I did a full backup on my computer, now that i got the new one.  I restored it all, but on summary on itunes There is a bar at the bottom with all of the data on usage and no apps were installed and then there was a yellow bar that says other and its taking 12.14GB from me but idk what its doing!!!! I already when on itunes and got all my apps but Im afraid I cant put all of them on it because other took so much space! please help

Other consists of emails, app data, notes, and other miscellaneous things. By no means should it be a considerable amount of space, however.
Best suggestion would be to back up in iCloud and restore as new.

  • Why is "Other" taking up so much more of my iPhone now as shown in iTunes?

Recently I've been getting messages saying my phone or iPad couldn't be backed up because there's not enough space and more importantly I can't update apps because I apparently don't have enough space.  I enable iCloud backup for my iPhone recently since I was having syning issues with iTunes, my iPhone and iPad (my iPad was being backed up over iCloud).  I've deleted a lot of photos, videos and less used apps on my phone -- I'm talking a couple gigs worth -- and every time I delete more content on my phone the more "other" grows as show in iTunes (13.89 GB currently--this was never more than 1 or 2 a most prior).  The iPad is still at about 1 GB for Other.

    Late follow-up:
Multiple Apple Store appointments in multiple locations after months and months, and I was given a new phone.  They told me to not restore from a backup and would have to manually bring everything over to avoid whatever malicious bug caused the problem.
Many things were suggested.  One was that maybe while updating a certain app, some important bit of code got corrupted due to a bad or inconsistent network connection, i.e. updating over an awful data signal.  I live in Montana and I'm also traveling all sorts of place with little to no service.  Thanks Obama!  ; )
Hope this info helps someone else at least....

  • Why is other taking up 8.9gb on my iphone?

  • What is the "Other" taking up all my iPod disk space?

I have the 80GB Video iPod. I thought I had plenty of free space judging just by how little room the music and videos were taking up, but then I noticed that a large percentage of the remaining space was actually marked as "other" on the colored bar in iTunes rather than "Free Space". But I have no idea what all that "Other" is. I'm talking about 35.7GB of "Other", while my 3.3days of Audio and 17.5 hours of video is taking up less than half of that.
I go through the different tabs in iTunes to see what's on my iPod, but it seems like it would all fall under either music or video (I had about 20 photos, but I stopped synching those up until I solve this mystery). What on earth could the "Other" be? As far as I know, that's all I've loaded on this thing is music and videos. I want to reclaim that space!

I have the same issue. I know a restore will fix it, but I want to know what is actually taking up that space and why.
Any ideas why gigs of space are taken up by "other", gigs of space which could be used for media?
Apple, any answers or a fix here?

  • "Other" taking up more than half the space?

I suppose this has already been asked.
O have no pics, no music, just a few reading apps and books on my 16GB ipad. Up to 7.4!!! GB is taken up by "Other"
What is this and how do I get rid of it?
    Thanks
    J

Basically, "other" is any non media content on your iPad .... App data, notes, Safari Bookmarks and history, calendar entries, text messages, contacts, and so on. It is content associated with apps but not the media itself.
You may have had a corrupt sync or have a corrupt file on the iPad and you may find out that you will ultimately need to restore the device to factory settings and rebuild the iPad in order to get rid of the bloated "other".
But before you do that, try restoring from a backup, if you have one.

If that doesn't work, try the first two fixes in this article, and you can try the third if you like, but you can make that assessment on your own.

If none of that works, you may may have to restore the iPad to factory settings and start all over again and add all of your content back after restoring.

  • What is the "other" category and why is it taking up so much space?

The "other" category on my iPod is taking up a considerable amount of space. I don't have very many apps, pictures, or videos because I want to preserve room for more music, but I can't seem to find a way to reduce the amount of memory that "other" takes up. Please help! Also, I would update to a newer system, but I don't have enough room.

Everything else plus the operating system.

  • Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

    Apple is great!
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?  Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).
I compose an iMessage with the destination as my email address and I attach 2 photos I want on my PC.  I send them several times from my iPhone 5C but they never arrive. I look at my ipad later and realize that it's iMessage app is getting ( and swallowing) these emails. I then turn the ipad off.  Still can't get the photos through because iphone is now getting them on it's iMessage.  I turn off the iMessage feature and try to send photos from text msging.  Phone tells me it can't send photos unless iMessage it turned on.  What happened to regular MMS text messaging?  I go and try to send photos as an email attachment and see that there is no option to attach from the stupid email program.  I look up online to learn about the brave new world of apple attachments and send them.
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?
The email program on my iphone is not configured to remove messages from the server.
If iMessage is turned off I don't have the issue.
Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

  • I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones.  Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with others (some who have hundeds of messages) they are using under 1GB for their messages.  Why are mine taking up so much space??

I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

  • Why does "other" take up so much space on my iPhone?

I got an iPhone 5s 16 GB at the end of June 2014.  I keep running out of memory and when I recently plugged my phone into iTunes, I noticed that "other" is taking up around 3 GB of space. I know the usual delete pictures and browsing history spiel, and I've done it all. People also say that Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage is a good way to tell what is taking up space, but I went there and manually added all of the numbers and they only add up to 8.6 GB vs the 11.6 that my phone says is occupied, leaving an extra 3 GB unaccounted for and confirming my suspicions that "other" is not included in this. People keep telling me it's the operating system but isn't that already taken out of the original 16 GB and why you really only have 12 GB of storage to begin with? As I was looking through different forums and discussions, people kept saying to restore the iPhone from the iTunes backup and I am wondering if that would actually work...does anyone have experience with this? (Also would this delete my apps and music as well? I'm not very familiar with the restore from backup and could not really find any good information on it.) Do I just have to live with "other" eating up this much space on my phone? I've had iPods and I have an iPad, and I've never had this problem. Any help at all would be very appreciated, as this is very frustrating. Thanks.

  • Why is it taking so long to back up on my external hard drive?

I have a WD 1TB 3.0 USB external hard drive & im transfering 200GB of data.
Why is it taking so long to back up all my data onto my exernal hard drive using time machine?
I turn it on every day for about 12 hours to backup.
I think it will take about 4-5 days to complete, is this normal?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

why is it taking so long to download acrobat xi?

    Hi Tiachia,
The download is dependent on the network connectivity speeds.
Please refer to the download speed vs time chart mentioned in the kb: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/store-download-faq.html
