Why is PayPal still preferring a RC4 cipher with TLS 1.2? Is RC4 with TLS secure?

My connection with Paypal is using RC4_128 as the preferred cipher with TLS 1.2. I was under the impression that RC4 was quite vulnerable and that AES-GCM is strongly preferred with TLS 1.2 as a more secure alternative? Am I incorrect? How much of a concern is this? thanks!

I'm no expert here so forgive me if I do not make sense. As I understand it and as you noted, TLS 1.2 with AES GCM is really the tour-de-force of a secure connection that best mitigates the chance of victimization (but enterprise clients are still progressively adopting it.) Maybe 12-18 months back I recall reading Microsoft urging enterprise clients to work in the direction of phasing out RC4, and immediately make RC4 at the bottom at the list of preferred ciphers due to fears of growing ease in exploitation (many of which were NOT necessarily instituted in practice but more 'theoretical targeting'. However, based on what you showed me, I am guessing this was said when CBC was assumed to be more secure than it is today (as was TLS 1.0/1.1). Some of Paypal's servers support GCM and those servers make AES GCM prioritized over RC4. However, from what I can tell not all PayPal servers support GCM. Based on what you are saying, does that mean Paypal is likely prioritizing RC4 over CBC on these servers given the recent demonstrations of how CBC is also vulnerable? If that is the case, hopefully they are moving in the direction of GCM. Whether Paypal likes it or not, they are a huge target (and therefore we are too ) While it's impossible to quantify, based on what you are saying it sounds like the risk here is still relatively low? Again, I'm not an expert on this but rather a guy who does research for a living and had a financial nightmare unfold because I never gave much thought to secure connections. One website, some obsolete cryptography, and the entering of the financial data you use to make purchases, **bleep** on earth broke. (I consider myself partly at fault due to my ignorance of assuming that a secure connection was a secure connection.) https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=paypal.com&s=23.203.228.56

• Why I am still on 4.2.2 with Z1 ??

I was very angry when I see that another update to 4.4
I have still 4.2.2 on my Z1.
I tried SUS and PCC, but both show that I already have the latest software.
I do not know if there is something wrong with my Z1?
I live in Central Europe, and I do not have 4.3 available.
When will I get 4.4?not before summer.
Has anyone else the same problem? Am I the only one?

I found the problem.
Some of my friends have Z1 from the same provider, but purchased later.
They have the latest updates, which they have received, immediately after the announcement.
Thus, we find that models that were purchased in October and have the software id 1278-7942 R2A, did not get any updates.
Purchased in December, they're all getting updates on 4.4.2
So the same provider, same model, only the second ID.
Is there a possibility to change the id?
Is sony forgot to update this device?

• HT3529 i deleted a contact in my phone. when i type the letter of the name in the message bar to who you want to message there name still pops up. if it is deleted why is it still there?

hi, i deleted a contact in my iphone but when i go to write a text to someone there name pops up in the message bar. but when i go to contacts its not there. why is it still in my phone even tho i deleted it?

hi JBeck022,
You may have some messages with that number in the messages section if you do, please delete them.
Another option is, you restored your iPhone with a backup that still had the contact info of that person

• I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my simplePass identity protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE.

I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my HP SimplePass Identity Protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE. It worked with the previous Firefox version but now when I use the internet, it doesn't even acknowledge I have the scanner. When I run my finger over it, it opens the settings panel but does not allow use of the already saved information or allow new information to be entered. I need this corrected. Any suggestions?

I asked this same question, and just received a response:
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases
for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for
Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do
not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep
DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona
is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications.
In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after
Mid-April of this year.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team "
In other words, there will be NO update.

• Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get? Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

Apple is great!
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get? Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).
I compose an iMessage with the destination as my email address and I attach 2 photos I want on my PC. I send them several times from my iPhone 5C but they never arrive. I look at my ipad later and realize that it's iMessage app is getting ( and swallowing) these emails. I then turn the ipad off. Still can't get the photos through because iphone is now getting them on it's iMessage. I turn off the iMessage feature and try to send photos from text msging. Phone tells me it can't send photos unless iMessage it turned on. What happened to regular MMS text messaging? I go and try to send photos as an email attachment and see that there is no option to attach from the stupid email program. I look up online to learn about the brave new world of apple attachments and send them.
Why is iMessage taking my incoming emails and then not making them available for my PC to get?
The email program on my iphone is not configured to remove messages from the server.
If iMessage is turned off I don't have the issue.
Why can I not send a text msg with photos when iMessage is turned off (but MMS is still on).

Did not work. I've selected iMessage to ON and left it. After a few hours I recieved a message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again". This has been going on for the past 3 days.

• Can't figure out why colors don't totally change when you select type with curser? It looks like it has by looking at it, but when you highlight the area after the old color is still there. It happens with objects to. Driving me NUTZ. Help!

Can't figure out why colors don't totally change when you select type with curser? It looks like it has by looking at it, but when you highlight the area after the old color is still there. It happens with objects to. Driving me NUTZ. Help!

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there. For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color. For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted. Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something. You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.

• I dropped my iphone 3gs in water and grabbed it immediately out. It gave me a charger is not supported with device screen every minute or two. I powered it off for the night. I havent experienced problems since. Why does it still work?

I dropped my iphone 3gs in water and grabbed it immediately out. It gave me a charger not supported sign every minute or two. I decided to turn it off for the night and the next morning it worked fine and only the bottom sensor was triggered. Why does it still work and how long will it last?

Water in itself will not kill electronic components if you let it dry out. Your first reaction to turn it off was a good one but you could have waited even longer.
It also depends what's on your water that will stay after the water itself had dried; like salt. Anything that iseither acid or conductor left on the circuit board will reduce the life of the board. Given said this, no one could state how long your iPhone will work since no one will know for sure where the water had time to infiltrate before you removed your device and no one what's may left there.
Consider yourself lucky. I don't understand however what you mean by a sensor triggered.

• As of version 31, why is there still no Thunderbird option to insert current date and time in message that you are writing?

As of version 31, why is there still no Thunderbird option to QUICKLY insert current date and time in message that you are writing?
Literally have seen this very-much-needed -- and used -- option "promised" for three years now, and even if there's only one or two formats that could be used, at least the option is there.
It seems only way is to link a Macro and tool to Thunderbird and do it that way.

Where was it promised? A quick search of Bugzilla didn't find a functionality request bug report for it.
I assume you're aware that Mozilla stopped development about 2 years ago (just adds security/stability fixes and provides infrastructure) and all new features and bug fixes are now added by the community. They seem pretty tied up with bug fixes and reworking some hard to maintain components such as the MIME support.
Have you tried the Timestamp add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/timestamp/ ? The version at AMO doesn't support versions later than 2.0 so you'd need to do something like install the disable add-on compatibility checks add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/checkcompatibility/?src=ss, and ignore the warning message about Timestamp not being compatible. However, the author has a version at http://extensions.sanjer.nl/?page=tb_ts that supposedly supports up to Thunderbird 11.9.x so it should be "compatible by default as it supports version 5 or later and is not a binary add-on like Lightning or Enigmail.
"For Thunderbird use the context menu (right click popup) in the compose window, Ctrl+Shift+T or "Options | Insert timestamp" to inserts the date/time into a message"

• Aperture 3 update. Why is there still no eraser for the retouch tool?

Perhaps I'm missing something, but: Why is there still no eraser for the retouch tool?
I realize you can delete retouch strokes, but they are in linear order so you often have to delete useful ones to go far enough back to get the one that you've decided no longer works.
I would rather have the ability to erase strokes back to the original image, much like the way the History Brush works in Photoshop, and indeed the eraser tool works in many other Aperture bricks.
Example, I retouch an eye, and then move on to retouch an ear. Then I decide I don't like the eye brush strokes. In order to remove one stroke on the eye retouch, I have to delete all the successful brush strokes I've made to the ear (i.e. those that came after the stroke I wish to remove from the eye). This is needlessly complicated and inefficient.
Many of other bricks in Aperture have an eraser tool to selectively remove brushstrokes. Why not the retouch tool?
Also, many other bricks in Aperture allow for stacking or layering bricks of the same adjustment with different brush choices. Why not the retouch tool?
Am I missing something?

We are just users here. Feature Enhancement requests need to be made via Apple's official approved channel. You can get there from within Aperture by clicking "Aperture➞Provide Aperture Feedback".
Retouching (and cloning) involves not just applying a transformation to the selected pixels, but basing that transformation on _other, non-contiguous_ pixels sampled from the image. This leads me to think that there may be intractable technical problems setting up the kind of workflow you propose.

• HT1918 After seven ios updates, why is iBooks still the only app that won't synch between iphone & ipad?!?

After seven ios updates, why is iBooks still the only app that won't synch between iphone & ipad?!?

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I did think that could be the case but then other books would also show up as apps on phone but not counted as an app. Maybe book apps downloaded from the app store work in this way whereas books bought from the ibooks app show in ibooks and not as apps.
I guess that would make sense, it must be because they are books but downloaded from the app store rather than the book store so they are visible as an app but don't actually get counted as an app.
Would you think that's the case too?
Thanks
Adam
