Why is PE10 very slow (broken) to preview wmv clip?

I realize that wmv clips are fairly processor intensive to decode or render, but I just encountered one (created by Google Earth Pro) that affectively breaks my Elements application.
When attempting to preview the clip from the project timeline, the preview display window only updates about every 5 seconds or so and the timeline cursor jumps similarly sporatically. Even after playing beyond the wmv clip into titles and other mpeg clips, the preview process is obviously still bogged down. I have to stop the playback and re-locate the time cursor somewhere outside the wmv clip to restore normal playback response.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be conflicting or causing the processing halt? I'm running Win7 64-bit OS, on an i7 x990 (hex core) 3.47GHz processor with 24G of RAM and dual SATA hard drives. Surely the hardware is capable of doing the processing, but I'm not sure about Adobe Premier Elements now.

I am currently using PE10 to compose/edit an HDV project off my camcorder, which is what its supposed to "good at", right?
The problem surfaced when I tried to paste in a short ~30sec wmv file as a title lead-in clip. It is an "HD" clip created by GoogleEarth, and I did not have much control over the format other than requesting 1920x1080 HD in order to be comparable to other HDV content of my project.
I suspect it is heavily compressed and requires a bit of processing power to decode. What I did not expect was for it to essentially "break" the Elements application. Afterall, it can decode and understand wmv formats. However, it apparently can't figure out how to use my 12-processor cores to accomplish that.
Perhaps I should use the Windows MovieMaker to edit the wmv (shorten it a bit) and save to some other format that Premier Elements can deal with more efficiently?

Why EP is very slow just after it is started?

Our env is like the following.
EP 7.0(NW 2004s).
But i think this also applies to NW 2004.
Just after EP is started, when the first user logs on, EP is very very slow
(takes long time while logging on and navigating) and its server CPU goes 100%
for a while. Why?
This phenomena is very similar to the situation that usual JSP web pages are
slow at first because it has to be compiled. Does EP have the same reason?
1. Could someone teach me what would be the possible reason?
2. Is there any way to avoid this phenomena? Like precompiling or something
like that.

To add to answers above - When a user logs in , in addition to login time and services/components are loaded into memory, also first time navigation takes time. This is to load the entry points (in TLN and first level DTN). These entry points are loaded into navigation cache (if not there yet). if indeed it takes too much time to load these navigation entries and its a problem , you can consider using the navigation cache preloader:

Why aperture running very slow?

I just installed additional ram and the other day aperture was running extremely slow. The only other application was iphoto.
How much CPU power does aperture require?

Nothing in my experience would make me draw the same conclusion (that the reporting of your Aperture Library as "Other" is why Aperture is running slowly). You report that your Library is on an external drive connected via USB. Is this USB 2 or USB 3?
The consensus is to put your Library on your fastest (lowest latency and highest throughput) drive. This is almost always your system drive. If your Library does not fit on your system drive, you are advised to move some or all of your Images' Master from the Library to a second drive using "File→Relocate Masters". If you want help with these set-ups, post back.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Why is my video being broken up into different clips when importing

Hello everyone. I just installed FCP X last night and imported a wedding video from my Canon XH-A1s using FCP, but I'm having trouble understanding why when imported the 1hr long footage taken at church is broken up into several clips. I recorded the clip as a whole and just to see if it was a tape problem I imported the clip to my pc using Sony Vegas Pro and it shows up as one whole clip.....what seems to be the problem? Is it dropping frames or is it just easier for FCP to import clips by using this method....I'm new to FCP by the way.

Is that true Tom? In FCP7 (and earlier versions) HDV clips are imported as a whole, not fragmented. Every start/stop moment causes FCP to create a new clip. So if Orlando's clip was recorded as a whole, FCPX should import it as one clip.

Why is Illustrator very slow and locks up when I select an image?

When selecting an image with the links panel open Illustrator locks up for a good 20 seconds... When I close the links panel everything is fine.
This is very annoying since I use the links panel all the time in my daily work routine.
Anyone else encountered this problem?

Ok a little strange, as mine is now running well after the updates from a few days ago.
Apologies if this is a false positive, but I can now have the LINKS panel open while highlighting on a linked PSD. I will run a few more tests to see if the error appears in any other ways.
I completely agree that Illustrator CC in particular does suffer from lagging across the board. I have never seen CC or CC2014 running as smoothly as say CS6.
I use Universal Type Server and the lagging caused by this (especially when backspacing text) has caused me no end of problems, but they slowly release updates and the problems slowly get ironed out.
Also I know this has been said before, but I had issues with the Verdana and Tahoma fonts and this slowed Illustrator (esp CC 2014) down also. I had the fonts installed but they were causing issues.
I searched over the web and at my work for alternative versions of these fonts and collected (what we think to be) a reliable pack of these two fonts that we can now use on machines in case they have similar lagging issues. So try getting hold of alternative copies of Verdana and Tahoma...fonts can corrupt very easily!

Hi, I faced the problem with Pages become extremely slow. Sometimes Activity Monitor showed that Pages used 58-70% of CPU (I run PowerBook with 2 Gigs of RAM)
After readying all related threads and trying everything, the problem still remained.
Then I tried something else - I changed all graphic settings from "Fixed on page" to "Moves with text." Bingo! No Pages flies consuming only 10% of CPU.
My document was only 20 pages long and had a couple dozens of graphic items (some of them were groupped), still they consumed a lot of computational power.
So, if your Pages document becomes slow and you suffer as I did - check how you postition graphics on the page and try what I have done.

I've tried all of the above to no effect. When I take one of the templates that Apple offers I can type at a normal speed. However, when I create an original document, text goes in sooo slowly as to make the program unusable. I have a simple two page three column brochure with about 400 wds in it and three simple jpeg files. I quite using Pages 1 for this very reason and Pages 2 hasn't seemed to have corrected the speed issue. Frankly Appleworks works better. I'm running a G4 1GHz Aluminium Powerbook and while it's over two years old it should have plenty of horsepower to handle this simple program. I've gleaned the lists here and other than anecdotal 'fixes' that work sometimes and sometimes don't I've yet to find a reason or a solution for this issue. Pages 2 will be put back on the shelf. No Office killer this...yet. On the other hand Keynote makes the buy worth while. I'm just disappointed that the world's best programmers have dropped the ball here. Frankly, I shouldn't have to implement 'work arounds' for a program this simple.

I think the reason is iPad native YouTube app will load the highest resolution video available. Given iPad limited memory, the video eventually consumes all the available memory and thus it loads getting slower and slower and eventually stop loading.
There are various YouTube related apps in app store you can try out, such as Watch Later, as the name suggest, a feature iPad native YouTube app is missing. It loads tremendously fast, with a noticeable lower quality video. But hey, I am only using iPad 2. Why do I want HD video for? If I wanna watch HD video I might as well watch it on big screen. A lower resolution YouTube video will do good. Apple should have allow user to choose which video resolution to watch. That shood solve the problem.

Why is Firefox very slow and Safari fast, opening up Yahoo/AOL?

My iMac is all up to date, running fine! My wife loves AOL, the default browser for her is Safari. It runs fine and is fast. I prefer Yahoo and use Firefox. Firefox can be fast but most of the time it take 30+ seconds to open any page/link....? I have both Safari and Firefox set up in the Dock. What am I missing....? Thanks, Bill

Yes - the status of the printer says that it is spooling - this goes on for a 3 minutes.

WMV VERY VERY VERY slow to open\ filp4mac wmv

It takes several minutes to launch a WMV file using flip4mac WMV player 2.1.2.72, which opens in quicktime. Most of the time the application launch stops responding and i have to force quit it.
What can i use (or do to flip4mac) so that WMV files open as quickly as an avi???
*i have VLC player and do not want to use it*_- please dont suggest this application.

Under the Flip4Mac preference pane there's a checkbox to "open local files immediately" ("local files" here means any non-streaming content, including files on mounted network shares, etc.) I had this checked and what this does is decode the entire movie before playing it. The newer version of Flip4Mac (2.2.x) puts up a progress bar while it does this, whereas 2.1.x did not and it just looked like the software had borked. This was especially annoying when browsing sites with WMV content, as you can imagine it locked up the browser too...
If you uncheck it, the movie will start playing straight away, and decoding happens "in the background" (in the developers' words.) Unfortunately it's hopelessly choppy when played "on the fly". The old PPC version wasn't this bad (on my G4 PowerBook)! There should be no excuse for such awful performance on a modern dual core system. VLC plays them fine - it can only be implementation coding on the part of the developers, as the Quicktime framework doesn't seem to stop videos in other popular codecs from playing smoothly.

Very Slow preview rendering for lightroom 5 on import

I am seeing very very slow rendering of preview images only when using the import function in lightroom 5. By slow, I mean for a shoot of 60 shots in raw, it could take 30 minutes before I can preview them all in the pane to see which ones I want to actually import. This was not an issue with lightroom 4. It is not an issue when using lightroom. Previews are fast there, even for images I've never pulled up before.
My hardware is a PC, with an intell i7 chip, and 16 gig of memory. My nvidia graphics card has the latest drivers.
I've seen a few others reporting this issue, so I'm trying to log it as a bug. Even though the dial up support text on the adobe lightroom says available 24/7, it now plays a voice recording that says only available m-f.

I'm having the same problem using Windows 7 (64b). I just took a shoot over the weekend for a significant birthday event. Now I can't load the photos. The work-around doesn't work as the program freezes before I get the chance to select the camera under "files".
I recently upgraded from 3.6 to 5 as I was also noticing a slowdown in the import function. That turned out to be a bad move I think. I also deliberately cleaned up the CF card and removed all my video recordings, as this seems to be reported as part of the problem, but to no avail.
This seems to be a pretty major bug to have in a major release that's been around for a while now, that I'm expected to pay for, and no sign of a resolution to date!
