Why is Photo Stream taking up space on my iPhone? I don't even use Photo Stream?

I was just going through my pictures, seeing how much room they're taking up on my phone, ect. when I notice Photo Stream is taking up space on my phone. I don't use Photo Stream... As far as I know. It says it using 3.9 KB, but I have no idea where that number is coming from. How can I view what's taking up that space, if it's possible?

This is what I mean. I'm seeing the 3.9 KB usage for Photo Stream under General>UIsage>Photos and Camera, nothing to do with the storage on iCloud and I have Photo Stream and everything to do with iCloud and photo sharing off. However, I may have had Photo Stream on before for a few weeks before I turned it off long ago. Could that data/used space just be a few photos that were once in Photo Stream before I turned it off if I've had it on before?

  • HT4914 I have iTunes Match. Why is music still taking up space on my iPhone?

I just purchased iTunes Match. Why is my music still taking up space on my iPhone?

If you have iTunes Match, yes the idea of that is that you have access to all your music from anywhere. If you access it though you will be downloading it, in order to play the music you have chosen to play, once downloaded, that music will stay on your device unless you delete it.
Music that is on your phone will show up as normal, music that is only in the cloud will have a cloud icon next to it, when downloaded the cloud icon will disappear, if you delete it again the cloud icon will disappear again.
In the example below, all my albums by Matt Schofield are on my phone, the others would need downloading.
Photo's are different they kept on your device and only synced to the cloud so they can be pushed to other devices.

Ok, What is all this "other" taking up space on my iphone and how do I get rid of it? It's taking up almost half the space on my phone.

"Other" includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc.  It should normally be about 1 GB.  Yours in an indication there may be corrupt data on your phone.
Unfortunately the best solution to fix your issue is a restore. Back up your phone, then restore it using iTunes.  Follow this guide:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.

  • Why is my shared photo stream taking up space on my iPhone when I have turned off photo sharing?

I have an iPhone 5c with iOS 8.3. It's only an 8GB iPhone, so I only have about 5.2GB of space to use. So I have to be very picky about what stays and what goes on my iPhone. Photos is one of those things that don't stay on my phone long. I have deleted all of my pictures out of my albums (both camera roll and recently deleted) and there can be no photos found in my library. In settings, I turned off all photo sharing capabilities, so I shouldn't be getting shared photos from family members on my phone and stuff. So why does my storage say that shared photo stream is taking up 54.6MB? I would like it to say 0MB. Am I missing something? I've included a couple screenshots to help clarify things. Thanks for your help!

  • Photos are taking up space on my iPhone, but I have no photos.

When I sync my 16GB iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro, the bar at the bottom shows that it is currently holding over 5GB of photos. I have only a few hundred from the camera, and none from iPhoto on my Mac. This is preventing me from syncing music and other files to my device, and it's becoming extremely inconvenient... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue or ideas about why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any lengthy videos in your Camera Roll that could be causing your problem?
If not, the issue may be a software glitch that could be resolved by updating your software to the newest version, 4.2.8.
    I hope this helps.

  • Why are my backups taking up space on my HD and not my time capsule?

I've been experiencing sluggish performance on my late 2012 Macbook pro. I have a time capsule (most recent model) and use that for backup. When I went to system information about my storage, it says that there is right around 200 GB of backups on my hard drive itself, why is this?

Most likely due to Time Machine snapshots made for each hour your computer is not connected to the backup drive. To prevent these in the future be sure to turn off Time Machine when you aren't connected to your backup drive.
These snapshots take up shadow space meaning if the system needs space and there isn't enough, then it will remove the number of snapshots needed to make space. So the space is not in technical use on the drive. But if you want all the space returned and turn off snapshots, then see:
    Time Machine Snapshots
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed. Press RETURN again.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.
For more about snapshots see: OS X Mountain Lion- About local snapshots.

  • 'Other' taking unusual space in my iPhone 4s

Recently i erased all content and settings on my iPhone 4s and set up it as a new phone because it had taken more than 1.4 GB of space for 'other' category according to iTunes. But after the set up process (As a new phone) i noticed that it's taking more than 400MB of space for 'other'. I have iOS 7.0.6. Is it possible to erase all 'other' data from the iPhone or at least reduce it, it kinda bugs me now. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Generally, anything under 2 GB is considered the normal amount of "other". You cannot eliminate it. It is the basic data needed for the built in apps. If it goes over 2 GB, it usually indicates corrupted data and the only way to fix that is to do a restore through iTunes then reload your most recent backup.

  • My messages are taking up space on my iphone even after I delete them.

I delete my text messages and afterwords they are still taking up the same amount of space when I check my usage on my phone. I have turned of spotlight search, synced to iTunes and none of that has worked.

The only option I see is to restore your phone as new to removed the save message in usage.
I have about 6.7 gb of saved messaged, I've done all the troubleshooting steps and only a restore will get rid of it.

How can I bulk delete contacts from my iPhone 4S? I've imported them from gmail and hotmail and there are many more than I need. Deleting them one by one will take ages, there must be a quicker way! Also, do contacts take up space on the phone or are they stored remotely?
    Thanks.. J

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • Ways to get rid of/reduce the "Other" storage taking up space on my iPhone?

I didn't really know where to put this question and I'm sure this is a common one but I have 3.78 GB being used up in the "Other" catagory. I know that deleting texts helps, do you guys know of anything else that could help give me back some storage? Oh and same with "Documents and Data", not really sure what that even is to be honest.

    Very welcome.
If restore from backup does not solve, then restore as new.

  • Why am I invoiced for iCloud when I don't even use it?

Have iPhone 5c. Used for one year. Do NOT use iCloud. Received an invoice from Apple today for $10.99 for storage on 3/18/15.  I DON"T use iCloud and never have. How do I contact Apple to refute this invoice?

Welcome to the wonderful world of IOS 6.01, not trying to be flippant but before 6.01 my battery was fine since 6.01 my battery life is pathetic.
what's worse you can't even downgrade the phone anymore.

  • Why are Apps taking up space on my Mac in iTunes when I have iCloud?

The Apps in iTunes on my Mac take up a lot of disk space. Why are they there at all? I use iCloud to backup my iPhone and iPad. iTunes Store keeps my purchase history. So, why are the Apps taking up space on my computer?

  • Why is iTunes trying to sync deleted items to iPhone?

    Hi,
I own a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4.
When attempting to sync my music, iTunes tries to sync particular items twice. The result is that the second time it tries to sync it fails, and it results in a message "x items could not be synced see itunes for more information".
    Attempted Solutions:
I erased all the music off my iPhone (having previously had it on synchronising particular playlists). However this left all the duplicated items that iTunes were trying to sync to the iPhone as showing as audio files on the summary tab and in the music tab. I can manually delete these if I select manually manage music however this comes back again when I press sync. I don't understand why it's trying to sync music (and taking up space on the iPhone summary tab) when I have de-selected synchronising any music at all.
I have deleted the items in questions completely from my iTunes however iTunes still attempts to synchronise then when connected to the iPhone. They do not show in the Music App on the iPhone but they do show as greyed out entries on the music pane in iTunes under my iPhone's device name. Again I can delete these but upon synchronising my playlists by de-selecting manually manage music these items re-appear!
    Someone please help me!
    Thanks,

Yea mine tends to do that too sometimes but most of the time I just eject my phone from iTunes if its not connected or I let it try to sync because I know it won't sync since my phone is not connected to any sort of power source.
You could always try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes if all else fails.

  • I have a shared photo stream, are those shared photos taking up space on the i devices of the people I am sharing with?

I am getting conflicting answers about this question, which to me it seems like a simple no since these photos sit on another server. Now if the person I am sharing with decides to download some photos then yeah it's taking up space on their i device. But if they dont and are simply viewing my shared photo stream my though is that those photos do no eat up space on their i device.

How much space depends on the size of the photos and how many there are.
Settings > general > usage > photos & camera. The shared albums will be included along with other photos.
