Why is playing music off of iPod through iTunes so slow?

I've been having a problem lately with playing music directly off of my connected iPod in iTunes. I double click a song to play, and then the entire app locks up for at least 20 seconds, presumably while it's finding the song on the drive of my iPod. This is every time I play a song. I don't think it does this when it skips to the next song on its own.
Is it supposed to take this long? I know that I used to be able to do this, no problem before. It's really annoying when I'm trying to weed songs out of my iPod, but when I'm not sure what song I'm looking at, I have to decide if it's worth the wait to play the song to figure out if I want to delete it or not.
I feel like ever since iTunes 11 was released, plugging in the iPod touch and managing it has been a huge ordeal every time. It takes forever for it to "sync apps, sync photos" and "backup to the cloud." But now I'm just ranting. Is there a way to speed any of this up?

  • Updated to iTunes 7 and can no longer play music off my iPod through iTunes

The title says it all. I can no longer play music from my iPod through iTunes now that I have upgraded. When I click on my iPod there is a little black lock beside where it shows the disk usage.
anyone have any ideas. I like some of the new features of this version of iTunes but it really seems to be a few steps backwards.

That little lock usually indicates that the iPod is set to autosync. In order to play iPod content through iTunes, you have to be on manual sync.

  • Playing Music With My Ipod through itunes

I was wondering if i could plug my ipod into a different computer then the one i update my ipod with and play music through Itunes on there ?

    Thank you.
So on the main pc, it has to be set to manual update.
Will this remove the music that's already on the ipod?
Will I then have to drag each playlist over to the ipod individually to get the new data to the ipod, or will I just click 'update' and have it still be semi automatic?
will the ipod still update play counts to itunes with this manual update?

Success!! There truly is a light at the end of the tunnel. Apple support really did come through and I am successfully back into my account. Ready to purchase more music. I followed the instructions, with patience I thought I lost, submitted my problem, someone emailed me back within two days and all is now perfect. Thanks again Apple.

  • I try to put music in my ipod through itunes but it's not letting me do it. it tells me it's doing it, but when I check. My songs are not there

OOk so I have my new Apple id in my iTunes account but my old Apple ID is the one that is in the iCloud account which is the Apple ID have been using for years and the reason I cannot get it on this abled is because somebody was using my credit card or debit card that was on file for family sharing and it was a stolen iPhone from my account so they had to disable my Apple ID and I could not use my debit card anymore on any Apple ID ever again they said because of it so I can't get it not to be disabled and I can't sign into iTunes with it I already have signed out and signed in with my new Apple ID for iTunes it's just iCloud is not letting me load anything so pretty much what I've been doing is I have to erase every app and then re-dumb going to iTunes and re-download the apps again but the only issue is that I still have a disabled Apple ID as my iCloud settings and my iCloud family sharing in all of that so I'm wondering how or is it possible to change my Apple ID for iCloud specifically because when I go into Icloud and settings and go into my name where my Apple ID is the one that's disabled it doesn't say anything about log out or sign out or anything like that it just says to put the password for it so is there a way to change the Apple ID for my iCloud so that my iTunes in my iCloud is the same Apple ID?

  • I can't acess or edit music on my iPod through iTunes...help please!

    Hey,
Recently I haven't been able to select or edit the music that's currently on my iPod, my iPod appears in the left hand menu bar but all the music is greyed out and inaccessible.
I can't figure out why it has suddenly done this, but I think it may have something to do with a small symbol of a locked pad-lock that has appeared by the bar telling me how many GB's I'm currently using and how many I have free.
Hopefully this print screen of my iTunes will help to explain what has happened: (sorry it is such bad quality!)
I know the solution is probably just a simple click of a button but, I've been trawling through all the iPod options trying to find a solution, and have been unsuccessful. I thought it might be due to the parental controls but the lock for that is unlocked and I've never set a password.
My brother is now using my old iPod mini on the same computer but a different user account...may that have something to do with it?
I am puzzled and confused, I hope you can help, any advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks for taking the time to read this,

I found this answer a few topics further in. It worked for me, hope it works for you.
I just changed my iPod from auto update to manually update, and the list is no longer grayed out. So that is what is stopping you, your iPod options are set for auto update.
Do the above in iTunes and everything comes up able to play.
    Thanks Katrina.S for this.

  • How can I search and shuffle music from my ipod through itunes?

I have an ipod classic and store the majority of my music on there to save space on my macbook. Before this new update, I could search for songs on my ipod and shuffle them as well through itunes.  Is there anyway I can still do this?  And if not, how would I go about getting the old itunes version? I've tried searching and it only searches my library on the mac.

Back when I had to do something like that, I used Copytrans, http://www.copytrans.net/. You might see if they are what you want.
At worst, you could open the ipod classic in disk mode, locate the music files, copy them to your hard disk (they won't have good names), and just add them to your library. You'll probably lose play counts and *s with that approach, but it should work.

  • How to play music from my iPod in iTunes?

I have installed iTunes 7.5 on a second computer and plugged my iPod. I can see its content but everything is grey and I can not play the songs?
    Why?
    How can I solve this?
    Thanks a lot
    Olivier

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Editing music information on ipod through itunes

I recently upgraded my ipod to a new iOS. But now when I try to change any information relating to songs already on the ipod via itunes the information chnaged does not show up as changed on the ipod itself. It will show the little spinning circle as if something is computing, but the information will not change on the actualy ipod screen. Any ideas?

Another option would be to add the word Explicit in the Comment field on the tracks, but that would require manually going through and marking them. A Smart Playlist could then be used to rule out items with Explicit in the Comment field. Could be tedious, depending on the amount of music to go through, but either route the user will have to ID and sort the explicit from the not explicit.
Is there anything on Doug's Scripts that can look at the metadata for an explicit tag??
Just poked around his list of scripts for a little... it looks like they only aid in editing (batch update or otherwise) the user serviceable fields.
However, this link may shed a little light on things:

My brain is still trying to decode (for lack of a better term) the info here... however, the "rtng" bit looks to be the "Explicit" tag in question. The OP would need to be familiar with hexadecimal notation in order to make any changes to the metadata.
The short of it... it's not an easy task.

  • Getting music off of Ipod onto Itunes using iDump

My hard drive recently crashed so all my music and videos are gone but all it's all on my Ipod. I read about the program iDump that allows you to transfer the stuff on your Ipod onto Itunes but I'm not very technical and couldn't figure out how to us it. Can anyone give me simple directions on how to do that please?

iDump does work but it takes a while to import each song individually from the music file.

  • Why is the music on my iPod randomly not letting me play? all my good ones are the ones I purchased won't play, my storage is fine. I tap on the song but it skips to a completly different song on iPod but not laptop

Why is the music on my iPod randomly not letting me play? all my good ones are the ones I purchased won't play, my storage is fine. I tap on the song but it skips to a completly different song on iPod but not laptop. For example both versions of Til' I Collapse by Eminem won't play on my iPod but on laptop, same with Born this Way by Lady Gaga

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My 40gb can be played but Itunes says it is corrupt.  I want to get the music off the Ipod onto my new computer, old computer died which had all the data on it (crap on my behalf I know)  Anyone know how to do this?

My hard drive is corrupt even though I can listen to the music on the Ipod.  Itunes says it is corrupt so obviously cannot read it properly.  You can hear the disk reader resetting every few seconds preventing the data recovery.
We can see the track listings and playlists which we used for our wedding in 2005 and desperately want them back.
Sadly we lost the hard drive that had Itunes on it with all our music which we dont have a back up of.
Is there anyway it can be repaired and then we get the music off the Ipod and get it back on a new pc....and back it up of course?!!!

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • HT1351 Whenever I try to sync music to my ipod from itunes, it will go through all the steps up until it actually downloads the music, then it starts, and doesnt move. Why wont it download anything?

Whenever I try to sync music to my ipod from itunes, it will go through all the steps up until it actually downloads the music, then it starts, and doesnt move. Why wont it download anything?

    Try here:
    iTunes: Error 13019 during sync
Not updating the iOS should not effect your problem.
As long as all the apps are in the iTunes library, you will not lose app data by updating the iOS.
