If you have ppc apps that you still want to run you can do this with Snow Leopard and Rosetta. Use either an external drive or a partition on an internal drive.
Generally there comes a time when most software providers have updated their software to work better on the latest OS's and latest hardware.
Of course shortly all new Macs will come with Lion pre-installed and the firmware won't allow an earlier OS to be used. For these ppc is dead!
Lion compatibility - most hardware 2-3 yrs old will be able to run Lion and it will run on even 2GB memory as Apple have said. Of course more memory often means faster processing of more complex tasks.

This is my first time I use iCloud to back up my phone. I purchased an additional 20GB for a total of 25GB of storage. According to my phone, I have 17.3 GB of free memmory. My question is this: Why is it taking so long to create a backup? My phone is reading "Backing Up" and "Estimating time remaining" for about 10 mins thus far and the progress bar is still at the original point it started 10mins ago. Hold the Power button until your MacBook turns off and turn it on again.
If you don't see anything on the MacBook's display and OS X is not starting up, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Then, turn on the Mac and hold the Shift key while your Mac is starting up to start up in safe mode, so you can start up your computer without loading other apps. After uninstalling the apps, restart again and see if OS X Mavericks can start up. If not, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X. If this doesn't work, you will have to erase the drive.
I don't recommend you to install the Seagate apps, as you probably don't need them

First shut down the text app and clear both
cache and data and do a normal power cycle. Follow that with a system cache clear and then restart the text app again and restore your preferred settings for the app.

I imported 11 mini discs and created a project with the intention of compiling them to be recorded on larger dvd. I can't understand what the background rendering is all about. I'm in my 4th day of rendering. Yesterday I stopped after 13+ hrs and today I'm in my 9th hr. Even still, it shouldn't take that long to render your files, assuming you've got a relatively powerful computer (i.e., at least a dual-core processor, up to date operating system and 2-4 gigs of RAM).
How long is your project? A DVD can only hold about 70 minutes of video.
And are you ensuring you're using the DVD project settings? If not, you'll run into problems eventually.
As you add DVD or MPEG files to your project, the program will need to first assimilate them. This should only take a couple of minutes for each file, depending on how long they are.
Once you place these files on your timeline, you will see a red line above them along the top of the timeline. Press Enter and the program will render them and the red line will turn green. Again, this shouldn't take more than 5 or 10 minutes, depending on how long your video is.
Assuming, of course, that you have adequate hardware to support version 8, which needs about 2-3 times the power of previous versions.

I just recently bought a MacBook Pro and I am installing Adobe Reader and it is taking sooooo long to install. I have been installing since 8:30 pm and its now 10:27 and its only up to 42%. Why does it taking so long? Also I have downloading other software and it took forever as well. Why does it take son long to download software to the Mac?

Something is obviously wrong.
Stop the download and take the machine back to Apple as you have 90 days free support.
They will test the machine to see if it's a hardware issue or a problem with the Mac itself.
If they say it's fine and it surfs/downloads fast on their connections, then it's likely something wrong with your home network or router.
Did you by any chance change your DNS settings in Network?
This could be the problem, delete what you entered and reboot the machine, the ISP's default DNS settings will return.
To OpenDNS? On the router? Are you using your own router of it someone managing it for you?
Are you over 21 and can you legally surf for adult sites? If some sort of filtering is on, this could be the cause.
OpenDNS doesn't have servers everywhere, so it causes certain downloads from Akamai servers to come from a lot farther away than your ISP servers.
Have you run Internet speed tests? Using other machines on your network are they fast?
Is your router or modem old? Did you power them off, wait 30 seconds and power them back on?
It's rather a lot to try to figure out network issues, you may have to call in a local professional.

Hey, I ordered CS6 Production Premium from the Education store on the 13th of September and my order staus is still pending.
I also uploaded my college ID on the Customer Support Portal on the 16th and it says "Pending Adobe Response".
Could anyone help me out here as to what's going on. Why is my order not being processed? Its becoming quite frustrating waiting for the order to be processed when it said Adobe would respond to my case within a couple of days of me uploading my college ID and dispatch the software soon after.
Can anyone help me out as to why its taking Adobe so long to process my order and how much longer do I need to wait before I can finally use the software...

Why is it taking so long to back up all my data onto my exernal hard drive using time machine?

Some product downloads are up to 1.6GB; that can take some time - very much depending on your Internet connection. Check http://www.download-time.com/
For a test, I just downloaded Illustrator CC 2014 (1.6 GB), and the download completed within 13 minutes (and I am 10,000 km away from the Adobe download servers).
Try downloading from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2014-direct-download-links.html - make sure you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page.

Yes, I was able to finally download two out of three of my applications. I waited three hours to get two pieces of software, and I still need to download one more application.
While talking to the customer service department in India, I was told that I could not get help in bypassing my slow Internet connection. Even though I have been a loyal and law abiding customer for thirteen years, Adobe's customer service department treated me like a piece of crap. All I wanted to do is get my applications on cd, so I can bypass the buggy and long downloading periods. I tried desperately to explain: (1) I have been a loyal customer for thirteen years, (2) I bought and committed to a yearly subscription, (3) I have followed Adobe's legal rules since day one, (4) I have no problems with the software's DRM, and (5) I love and support Adobe products.
Regardless about how much I sympathized with Adobe's position, I could not get your customer service department to 'care about me'. I walked away feeling depressed and defeated.
As a result of going through a horrible customer service experience, while also struggling with the change to cloud, I started to think about a change in career. Why do I want to be a graphic and web designer? I spent a crap load of money on an education, so that I can become a slave to the industry's dominate software maker. If it was not for the fact that Adobe's software is the industry's standard, the recent events with your customer service department would have made me walk away.

And what specifically? You need to provide much more info. anyway, if the extraction takes longer than half an hour, start over or manualyl extract the files from teh 7z archive using WinZip or WinRar.

What does download iCloud mean? You don't download iCloud. You download the content that is in your iCloud backup to your phone. If you have a great deal of content in the backup, it can take a good bit of time.
Define "so long". That doesn't mean anything to anybody here. It's a relative term and we have no idea how much time "so long" is to you.
