Why is PowerPC applications no longer supported by Lion

Upgraded to Lion. Tried to open my EPSON SCAN and get message PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What's the deal? how can I open my EPSON SCANNER which I use to email faxes and scan 35 slides to Iphoto. This is not good.

You can try Software Update or go to Epson and download the appropriate driver, if available.

  • My iMovie no longer works "PowerPC applications no longer supported"

My iMovie (v. 9.09) no longer works on my MacBook pro with osx 10.7.5, when I try to open the app I get the message "PowerPC applications no longer supported". I tried upgrading, but the mac store says I need osx 10.9 to upgrade. help!

You might try converting the .mp3 files to AIFF 16bit @ 48kHz Stereo just to see if it's a file format problem. AIFF requires iMovie to do much less work to play it back or do any adjustments on it. Easiest way to convert would be to download Audacity and just Export to AIFF I think.

  • Sims 2 Mac OS X 10.8 Powerpc applications no longer supported

I have recently purchased the entire Sims 2 collection for use on my fairly new MacBook Pro, Version OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
However, I am unable to install the game due to 'Powerpc applications to longer being supported' being displayed when I click open. I have researched this online and have learnt that many others have also had this problem, however I am confused as to how I overcome the issue, if even possible!?
I'm no wizz kid, I don't understand. I just want to play on Sims 2!!!! Help!!!!!!

Report your concerns to the game manufacturer.  Apple has nothing to do with this as it is not their software.

  • Lion and "powerPC applications no longer supported" with hp Office jet printer

I have an HP office jet 5510 all in one printer that is no longer compatible with my recent installation of Lion.  The "powerPC applications are no longer supported" prompt comes up when I try to open the app on my dashboard.  Do I need to buy a new printer? To have it be compatible with Lion? If I do, which type of printer and software do I need to be sure of to make the two compatible with Lion?

Possibly.  Check the HP website and make sure your drivers up to date.  If you need a new printer, look for one that says it is compatible with Lion.

  • TS1394 After installing maverick, microsoft entourage fails to load due to "PowerPC applications no longer supported."  Now what do I do to get my email back ?

After installing OS X 10.9.1 maverick, my email program, microsoft entourage, fails to load because "PowerPC" no longer supported.  What do I do now ?

I've been holding off upgrading to Mavericks until I feel like I've identified the problems I'm most likely to encounter and have a solution for them.  This concerns me, becasue I thought Office 2008, including Entourage, was good to go.  It's very definitely not a PPC application - I'm running it on Lion (which can't run PPC programs), and Activity Monitor identifies it as Kind=Intel.  Is the issue that Mavericks is misidentifying Entourage 2008 as a PPC application?

  • Install - PowerPC applications no longer supported

My Mac recently crashed. In recovering my hard drive I was unable to recover and 3rd-party Apps - which includes my Adobe products, and purchased apple/mac programs.
In trying to repurchase some Apple/Mac programs I was "forced" to upgrade my OS to the most current (mountain lion) as some programs were no longer available in versions that would run on an older OS.
I'm now trying to reinstall my Creative Suite 2 and getting the following message: You can't open the application "Adobe Installer" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I looked around at other questions/discussions on this topic, and even tried the "remove launch pref" download that I found somewhere on here - but it didn't work.
after spending many hundreds of dollars getting my computer repaired - i don't want to have to spend many many more hundreds of dollars buying a "new" version of Creative Suite. My version is just fine for what I need/use it for and it's ALREADY PAID FOR!
How can I get my software to install?
    thank you.

  • PowerPC applications no longer supported

I have a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I got Adobe Photoshop elements 4.0.
When I insert the CD and try to install Photoshop elements this notification appears: "You can not open the programme 'StatusDisplay', since the PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Then a second one appears, which notes that I can not open the programme 'SetLanguage' for the same reason.
The installation window claims that an error occured and the installation failed.
    Any Help?

Installing Snow Leopard onto an external drive isn't very much different than installing it onto your internal drive over your current OS.
First, buy the Snow Leopard DVD. Apple and many retailers sell it for about $30.
When the DVD arrives (or you get home from the store with it), run whatever system maintenance you're comfortable with (Verify/Repair Disk and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility at the very least) and then back up your hard drive. I suggest both a full bootable backup onto an external hard drive plus a separate backup of your most important data (purchased music and movies and other media, your dissertation and other text files, etc.) on some external drive or removable media such as writeable CDs or DVDs.
When the backup is complete, connect your blank external hard drive (NOT the one you used for your bootable backup!), then insert the Snow Leopard DVD. Find the "Install Mac OS X" icon (it might have a slightly different name) and double-click it to get the installer started. When it asks you to choose the disk onto which to install Snow Leopard, select your external hard drive. The rest is fairly automatic.

  • PowerPC applications no longer supported...Lion

I installed Lion today and when it finally installed, I discovered I was no longer able to open Sibelius 4 as "PowerPC applications are no longer supported".
I'm hoping that, as with every other upgrade that has eluded the Sibelius makers, they will provide an upgrade that sorts this, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else was having issues.
    Thanks in advance!

You need to purchase the most up-to-date version of MS Office if you want to use Office with Lion. You can find if for as low as $100 on Amazon. Think of it this way, you paid $150 about 7 years ago, that comes out to about $1.78 per month....you got your money's worth so it's time to upgrade.

  • Since my upgrade to mountain lion now my Italian language CDroms will not run, the message says PowerPC applications no longer supported.

    So am I just screwed?

Here is a post that I assembled for another who needed to continue to run his PowerPC applications in Lion/Mt. Lion:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions, or find alternative software that will open your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

I am afraid you will not be able to use Photoshop Elements 4 on Mac 10.9.
Photoshop Elements 4 is only supported on Mac 10.3 and 10.4.

Has anyone seen this? What do i do?

    HI,
It would seem you have jumped from an earlier version of the OS or have somehow managed to get a version of iChat on the computer possibly iChat 4.0.x from Leopard (the last fully PPC OS version).
Mountain Lion will not run versions of Apps that were written for PPC machines.
You will have to reinstall  the OS X

Not necessarily the best solution for gaming, but it may work with Sims 2:
Consider installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • Now my MS Office doesn't work because powerpc applications are not supported by Lion.  what now?

Does this mean that I have to purchase a new version of MS Office that is supported by Mac chipset?  Wish I'd known that before purchasing Lion.  Is there a way to work around this?

There are already plenty of threads on this subject. Just search PowerPC or Rosetta and Lion.
Yes, you have to upgrade the nearly decade-old software.
No, there isn't a workaround, although there are alternatives to Office.

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
