Why is Reader X forcing us to save file?

Does anyone know why Reader X is forcing us to save a file when we just want to view?  We currently have Acrobat 6.0 installed and just upgraded to Reader X.  Is there an incompatibility issue here that may be causing this problem?

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
We didn't make any changes.  We were just trying to open to view.
After the use of menu File > Open ?

Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file within a browser that can be opened with Reader 9?

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

  • Why does reader freeze while opening some pdf files and others open instantaneously?

I use pdf files created from CamScanner and shared from DropBox.  In DropBox, many times (over 50%) while opening the PDF the process freezes and the error message is Adobe Reader is not responding.  If you close the program, and re-open the file, it opens fine.  I have saved these files to my computer and the same issue occurs.  The files are 100-500kb, so I do not think size is the issue.  I have reinstalled Reader (11.1.10) and there is no improvement.

This appears to have reduced the time to load a document.  Thanks Jimb      From: Anubha Goel <[email protected]>

  • Why can I no longer open or save documents in word?

Why can I no longer open or save files using office for mac?

Go to the Apple Menu (top left) click the Apple Menu and select "About This Mac"
That will result in this window:
The version number is right underneath Mac OSX.
Then I will need to know which version of Office (Word) which you will see on the splash screen when you start it.

  • Default for opening pdf files keeps changing back to 'save file' after I set it to open in firefox

Since upgrading to the latest Firefox version, my options for opening adobe pdf files have changed. I set it to 'use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox', it works absolutely fine, then some time over the next few days it changes itself back to 'save file'. Then I have to open options and change it again. This happened to me some years back with a much earlier version of Firefox - I can't remember how it was resolved, I think it just stopped doing it after a while. But it is most irritating!

I echo the request for Help! I've added Options to my Toolbar so I can more easily change "Save File" to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" as the default. Why does Firefox keep reverting to the save file default?

  • Windows 7 - Can't Save File Anymore?

I started using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my new HP notebook computer.  Everything works great except that Adobe Reader no longer has the "save file" or "save target as" options active.  I used to save my Chase online credit card statements from the Chase website, but I no longer can do so.  I wasn't sure what had happened, but it does appear to be Windows 7 because my wife's notebook had been 64-bit Windows Vista with no problems saving Adobe files.  However, I recently upgraded her to Windows 7 and now Adobe doesn't save files anymore.  How do I get this capability back?  I need to be able to save Adobe files on my computer.  Help!!!

I am running Vista with IE 8. tried the various combinations you have
    suggested.
for me the only thing that worked on some sites but not all is to  hold
down the control button while clicking to open the PDF file. That brings up
the menu bar. while the "save" function under "file" is there it doesn't do
anything. however, under pages (lower right section of menu bar) there is an
option to send the file via email.  I did that, sent the file to myself
and could download it from the email attachment. cumbersome but  worked.
Unfortunately that doesn't work for all website I have to download PDF
    files from. still experimentiong.
I tried the hold down "alt key" and click on "title bar" but nothing
happened. perhaps I don't know what a titled bar is, I clicked all over the bars
at the top of the page, nothing

Well, I  just tried on Windows 7, IE 8, protected mode on and could save
the file  (though on a different bank's website).
While I'm not sure what's  going on with the particular sites, one thing
worth trying is to click on the  title bar of the IE window and press the Alt
key. This should show up the menu  for IE. From there you could select  Save.

  • Anyone know of a word processor that saves files directly on iPad?

As the title says, I'm looking for an app that can word process on the iPad. This app must be able to save locally and save to an online service such as Dropbox or iCloud. Sometimes I do not have access to wifi, which is why I need to be able to save files locally. Thanks!

    You can try Quickoffice Pro.
    To save locally: Quickoffice
To saved to cloud: Box.net, Sugarsync, Dropbox and Google Documents

why after Download updates for the lion 10.7 and I read the writing could not save any of the selected updates and I can't upgrade the software ?

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down.  Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
Reminder: create full backup before you upgrade OS
    Hope it helps.

  • Why Reader X is asking to save?

When I open PDF from gmail (received as an attachement) just to view it, and then close it, Reader X asks for saving the file. Does anyone know how to disable it?

It could be that someting in the file (such as a JavaScript action) is causing a change, so Reader asks if you want to save the modified document. I'm not aware of a way to prevent this.

  • Why does Acrobat XI PRO freeze during save or save as tasks in Window 8?

Why does Acrobat XI PRO freeze during save or save as tasks in Window 8?  It is intermittent, but CHRONIC, and I am forced to "repair" the installation, or reboot by computer.  This has been a problem since upgrading to Windows 8 and installing the only Acrobat XI update.  Feedback most welcome and appreciated, but an Adobe FIX would be the best solution.

10/4 to all, same problem here with Save or Save As in Acrobat XI Pro using Win 8 Pro, is it Adobe or Win 8 or both causing the problem.
FYI, I just retired and am trying to archive/reduce my printed material and pictures to pdf, this continuing problem is really the pits.................

  • I want to open file attachments, but Firefox forces me to save them to a file

Firefox forces me to save email attachments that I get, rather than just opening them up. I found the tools menu item that allows me to decide where to save them but it does not seem to give me the option to just open them.

This is a ridiculously complex solution to something that the Mozilla Foxfire browser used to do automatically. I do not understand why the handling of attachments has to be made this complicated. Previously, I could click download, the download window dialog box would open and I could choose to open, save, delete the file regardless of what type file it is. Now, for no good reason, I click to download, the same window comes up, indicates the file downloads then the file disappears from that window and I have to go to a designated file where it has been saved to open it. Then, I have to remember to delete it from that file if it's not something (most things are not) something I want to keep!
I've changed the options as provided in the settings for downloads several times but the result is always the same. Why did this change occur? It's enough to make me seriously consider dumping Firefox completely.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Why does my external Hard Drive not save album artwork? Help!

I have quite a lot of music saved digitally, so to save space I have been storing it on an external hard drive. Some of the music does not have any artwork attached (and does not download any when I select 'get album artwork').
So, as an example, starting with the music on iTunes, I have manually added some artwork via the 'Get info' option.
I then saved the music to my external hard drive.
However, when I next transfer the same album back onto iTunes, none of the artwork has been saved.
Why is this? And how can it be corrected?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
thanks for the reply, limnos, But let me explain: I have about 80gb-100gb of music.
I can't keep all of this on my computer (on iTunes) as it simply takes up too much space for the rest of my computer to run at a decent speed.
I therefore use my hard drive as a kind of library, where i store my music and occasionally transfer some music onto iTunes to listen to, and then transfer it back whe I'm done. Do you see?
I have done a bit more exploring and I think maybe I only have a problem with artwork 'disappearing' when it is albums that I have requested 'get album artwork'. i.e. the artwork downloads onto an album; then i copy the album onto my hard drive for storage; then when i want to play the album again and copy it back onto itunes, the artwork has been lost.
    Do you know why?
