Why is "Render Effects in Work Area" going so slow?

I was working on a project using multicam, and I did my cuts before my color correcting and went to color and render the multicam sequence directly. After opening it in the timeline and tweaking color for awhile, I went to render the effects using the "Render Effects in Work Area" command. This was going really fast at first, and had probably made it 75% of the way through in a few minutes. However, once it hit a point, the render slowed down to only a few frames a second and the last 25% was going to take 2 hours. I cancelled and started the process over, only this time the entire render went slowly.
A few important notes:
-The total length of the sequence is about 1 hour 20 minutes, so it's not a short thing
-I've tried this on two different computers, the second one I switched to going slow from the get-go
-The first time while doing this, I (stupidly) switched to another program and (stupidly) tried to render the entire clip at once (instead of using a smaller work area). Using a smaller work area makes no difference in the speed at this point, though.
-The multicam sequence is composed of two clips, one with a luma corrector effect and a luma curve effect, the other with an luma corrector effect and an rgb curves effect
-I have tried clearing the cache
Specs:
Premiere Pro CS6 (not cc)
Late 2012 iMac running Mac OS 10.9.1 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 16 GB RAM (both computers; I'm in my university's computer lab)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 512 MB graphics card
Working from a LaCie rugged 1TB USB3.0 drive

One reason I like to render my effects before export is that it helps expedite the final export and helps in the long run when I inevitably screw up the export a couple times for some reason, or when I have to re-export to a different format, with a negligible sacrifice in quality. The other is that I can more easily view how my effects affect my main sequence; right now it's too slow to play with the effects turned on.
I could just do it in the final export, and I guess I might have to at this point. And it bothers me that I'm having this problem, because it could potentially come up in other situations.

Two distinct questions
I'm currently working on a project, and for some reason that I can't figure out, if I try to ''render effects'' (or ''render entire'') work area, nothing happen... May I have selected something ?
This is about my 5th or 6th time only wth Premiere (CS4) and never saw that before.
Also, how do I ''re-dock'' source and output side by side as default ? (I undocked for this project and appear not to be able to put them back as before (there is a ''undock'' option, but stupidly no ''redock''....

Adobe photoshop cc crashes/ work area goes black when i try to insert text to a document ?

when i have eddited a photo and want to insert my watermark when i press the text tool the document goes black this also happens when i create new document and try to make a watermark but when i select another tool the photo re appears can any one help me already been on phone to adobe support they told me to reset all preferences but its stilkl hasnt worked

Why does CUBE EFFECT only work with 1 photo?

If I want the cube effect with a slideshow I only get the effect 1 time? I've tried all different ways - no go... anyone know the answer to this? I want a group of photos to rotate everytime they change.

Sal - I know how it's supposed to work Dude but it doesn't! It works on the first one and the rest just change but NO CUBE. I've been using Macs for years - I know a lot but this one is puzzling? Have you tried it? Does it work for you? I may need to find the preferences file and trash it 'eh? where's it at?

Why has Lighting Effects stopped working in CS6 32 bit

I have just upgraded my graphics card and Lighting Effects has stopped working in 32 bit CS6. It never worked in 64 bit but it was OK in 32 bit until now. I press the effect and nothing happens. Can anyone help?

If you revert the driver update do you get the Lighting Effects menu back? What is your OS, video card, and driver version? Do you have 13.0 or 13.1?

Why is my import from DVD-R going soooo SLOW??

OK, I'm very new in the Mac world and am still trying to move my photos from my PC. I burned all of the photos to a DVD-R using the Kodak gallery program. I have 3 DVDs of photos.
Now I am in the process of importing into iPhoto. I opened iPhoto, inserted the DVD #1, and then selected import to library. The first thousand photos imported fine, but the last hundred or so have taken FOREVER...like several minutes per photo.
Should I let this just go overnight, or stop the import and try again?
Has anyone ever experienced this slowness when importing from DVD?

You would be better off copying the files to a folder on the desktop and then into iPhoto as copying from a disk the file first has to be copied to a temp file and then into iPhoto. I don't know how far you are in the current disk import but for the future ones I'd definitely copy to a folder first and then into iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Why is the internet on my iMac going so slow?

Hi, When I put my iMac through a browser speed test it's really slow however my MBP is working normally.
I have restarted and run Disc Utility. Any other ideas?

Yes, a site like Speedtest gives dramatically different readings with the iMac much slower than the MBP.
RSSI on the iMac is -45
PSSI on the MBP is -65
Transmit rate on the iMac is 117
Transmit rate on the MBP is 26
MCS index on the iMac is 14

iMac is 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3

Thank you, dwb, I don't understand doesn't this mean the iMac should be faster than the MBP? but it isn't on speedtest the iMac has download speed of .58MBps and on the MBP it's 12.5MBps.

MacBook Pro says its connected to wifi but doesn't work(or goes super slow)when the wifi works for everyone else Help!

I have recently gotten a MacBook Pro (through my highschool so it is monitored by them) and ever since I brought it home it's been having wifi connection problems. It says the wifi is working fine, it shows full bars, but when I try to connect to the Internet it acts like there is only one bar or no bars. Although every one and a while I can get a great connection but it lasts for about 10 minutes. This I do not get because the wifi works perfectly fine for everyone else in the house and for our phones too. So if anyone else could help me I would be soo happy. Thanks.

I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:
First we’ll do the SMC reset
1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.
2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)
3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.
*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM
1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”
2.) Power on your Mac
3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”
4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.
**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.

Some advice for quicker rendering of work area preview in AE?

I've been using premiere over the past while and gotten used to the option of 'render effects in work area' and then leaving it for a few minutes till the green bar is ready to be viewed, but now that I am using After effects, i have found that RAM preview is extremely slow, very very slow, especially when working with particle systems, is there a quicker option to select is i only wish to preview the small work area of the composition? Is RAM preview work the same way as 'render effects in work area' as in premiere or should i be using a different preview render option?

There are numerous options in the RAM Preview pallet for creating faster previews. You can preview just the work area. You can reduce preview resolution. You can reduce preview frame rate.
You can also solo layers to preview a specific layer animation without having to render the entire composition.
Remember that AE previews in a very different way to Premiere Pro. AE loads every pixel of every preview frame into RAM before it plays, while PPro can play straight off your hard drive.

When you define an internal table the system arranges a part of memory area in two parts:
- The first one is to stores all records loaded in the table;
- The second one is to store the single record is elaborated,
So when you loop an internal table, the system picks up the record from the first area and puts it to the second one;
The part of memory to store all records is obligatory, so the system'll always create it when an internal table is defined.
The part of memory to store the single record is not necessary, you have to use it only if it needs to read the table: this one is called HEADER LINE or WORK AREA.
So you can decide to declare a table with or without an header line in according to what you need to do.
A) If you need to read the table you need to have a table with header line or work area:
- WITH HEADER LINE
DATA: BEGIN OF ITAB OCCURS 0,
              FIELD1,
              FIELD2,
              FIELD3,
           END    OF ITAB.
LOOP AT ITAB.
WRITE ITAB.
ENDLOOP.
While looping the table the system automatically fills the header line;
- WITH WORK AREA:

It's the same to use the header line or work area, because you need them when you have to read the records of an internal table.

In this example the internal table IT_MATERIAL is used only to select the data from MARC using the option FOR ALL ENTRIES. This options doesn't use the header line of the table, so it's useless to define a table with an heaader line.

Shortcut keys for the Start/End work area?

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if any shortcut keys exist for setting the Start and End points for the work area (i.e. grey bar with orange endpoints above timeline)? On a large timeline, I usually have to zoom all the way out, find it and then drag it to where I'm currently editing so I can render a small work area. If I could save some time by using shortcut keys, that'd be great!

Hitting enter key or choosing "render work area" no rendering occurs

I recently migratated all my pictures and projects from one computer to another, new one.
Working with PE12.
I'm trying to render a project that I have created, but when I hit the enter key, or even select "Render Work Area" from the Timeline menu, instead of rendering, it plays back the project.
Anyone knows what is going on?! please?

I'm very glad you jumped back in. So, thank you.
I've done everything you have suggested, and I'm getting the same issue. However, there is one observation that could help you further narrow it down.
I'm going to respond to all your suggestions, point-by-point below in order to help you - help me- the best I can
1. I am assuming that you are working in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12. If so, the go to the Quick workspace and try each of the following [ Correct]
a. Hit the Render button above the Filmstrip there [done]
b. Go to Timeline Menu/click on Render Work Area [done]
c. Press Enter key of the computer main keyboard [done]
Did the rendering dialog come up at any time? [YES, (and this has been happening all along), when I try to render, in any of the 3 ways above, I do see a window pop up for a millisecond and then it disappears. I hightly suspect that it is the "render" window that is attempting to open, but just goes away for some reason.
When you went back to the Expert workspace, was there now a green line instead of an orange line over the TImeline content spanned by the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar? [no, still orange coolor]
2. Make a copy of the problem project (File Menu/Save A Copy and renaming it). Open the copy and determine if you can render the Expert workspace Timeline content of that of the Quick workspace Filmstrip.
3. Have you cleared out the preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Previews FIle Folder for this problem project? [YES, manually went inside the Adobe Premiere E Previews File and deleted everything] Double check on that. How much free space is there at the location where you have this Adobe Premiere Elements Previews Files Folder? [Plenty of space is left ~ 230GB] Next, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and its Media Cache Datebase and hit the Clean button there to get rid of conformed video files. [Hit the clean button, twice]
4. Next, delete the Premiere Elements 12's settings file named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs. The route to it in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit is

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the path cited. [Wend all the way inside the 12.0 folder, but did not see any file called Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs, so deleted the whole 12.0 folder instead as you suggested]

As a novice computer user, I wonder why I'm often getting "white-out" (program/app/site I'm working in goes totally blank onscreen). This is when I'm Internet online. If it makes a difference, I'm working 99% of the time on battery, not AC, power. Some of the possibilities I'm guessing are: glitches in my Verizon FiOS Wi-Fi providership?; staying too long on a site that's waiting for me to finish and "Submit"?; computer hardware prob (yikes, I hope not! It's brand new). Any ideas out there?

When this 'white-out' occurs, is the display 100% white with no error message and no menu bar?
Does this occur when you are using Wi Fi or connected to the Internet via the Ethernet cable?

Render Work Area/Warp Stabilizer Changes Video Duration

Hi everyone,
I'm quite new to Premiere Pro and I have no doubt this question has a simple answer.
I've put in a small video, say 5 seconds into my timeline. I then for example apply the warp stabiliser effect. I think select Sequence - Render Work Area.
But every time I do it, the full video is no longer showing. It's like it has kept the same amount of frames, but because warp stablizer (I'm assuming) has inserted frames to smooth it out, I'm only seeing a fraction of the total clip length.
So video length is still 5 seconds, but I'm now only seeing say, 60% of what was shown before.
Just for further info, I'm using a 720HD 30fps sequence, but the video in question is a 120fps from a GoPro. I wonder if that's causing the issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you get a good answer from the gurus at ADOBE on this one. I use ProDADS Mercalli V2+ Stablizer in Cs5.5.2 with 4 cores Xeon processor, i suggest you trial it as I have had no issues with the exception of cutting the clip after stablization, do it befor hand. I was thinking of upgrading to 6.1 ?
