Why is safari 7 deleting my bookmarked websites?

why is safari 7 deleting my bookmarked websites? I keep adding them in and they go to my favorites bar, but once the window closes, more often than not the bookmark is gone from the favorites bar.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • How Do I Remove Icons From Safari, Without Deleting My Bookmarks ?

Since the iOS 7 iPad update Safari on my iPad 3 has changed.....and I personally don't like it.
I'm hoping someone can help with this question, as I have searched Apple and Google for the answer.
When I open a Safari page I am greeted by an entire page full of pesky little icons.
Each icon represents one of my many bookmarks.
I don't want a page full of icons, I prefer to click the Bookmark icon which is at the top right hand corner of Safari page.
After much searching online it would seem that I can only see one answer.......which says go to the top right and delete the bookmarks, then the icon disappears.
The icon does vanish......but also so does the bookmark vanish from the top right menu.
I don't want to lose my bookmark from the top right menu, I just want to have a page without 20 icons on it !
    This must be possible....?
I would be very grateful if someone would just take a few minutes to post the solution to this annoying issue please, thanks.

The Bookmark icon is on the left not the right.
You're tapping @ on the right which displays the icons.
Tap the Bookmarks icon on the left.

  • Safari is deleting my bookmarks

I have Safari 7.1. Lately every time I try to edit my bookmarks I lose one of my folders. Of course, it's the most important folder for me. Does anyone else have this problem? How do I fix this? Luckily I've been able to retrieve them through Time Machine but I've had to do it now about 5 times. Thanks for your help.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
              File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmarks as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Why does Safari crash while adding bookmark

This problem has made me to use the Firefox browser. I litterally cannot add a single bookmark in Safari

I upgraded to IOS 5 a few weeks ago on my iPad 1.  After the upgrade I could not browse more than a minute or two without Safari crashing (app instance disappearing).  I read a number of posts here and based upon that turned on private browsing in Safari.  That stopped the crashes but is a total pain since it doesn't save information.
After reading some more posts, I noticed a few people suggest that the issue is with IOS 5 using an iPad backup/profile created by earlier IOS releases (basically an upgrade issue).  So I went into Settings, General, Reset and did "Erase All Content and Settings".  This essentially initializes the iPad.  I went through the setup process on the iPad again but did not use iCloud etc.  Then I plugged it into my iTunes PC and when asked whether I wanted to create a new iPad or use the existing backup, I created a new iPad profile.  Then I reloaded my music, apps, videos, bookmarks etc.  I will still need to reenter my email server settings etc but haven't gotten to that yet.
I have been surfing all night with the iPad now and Safari has not crashed yet.  I have not turned on private browsing.  Hope this fixes the issue.
NOTE: YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WILL LOSE FROM THE IPAD WHEN YOU INITIALIZE IT.  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COPIES OF EVERYTHING ON YOUR IPAD BEFORE YOU TRY THIS AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SETTINGS NOTED SOMEWHERE LIKE EMAIL SERVER ETC.
    Good luck.

  • Why can't I delete my bookmarks or clear my history?

I have tried to delete my history several times and it just won't. I know HOW to do it, but it's not working. Same with my bookmarks...I can't delete them...is this some kind of glitch or something?

How are you deleting your history? There are several ways, and i might be able to suggest others.

  • Why did safari stop saving history-bookmarks?

When I open history in Safari, I see only up to end of August (this is Sept. 18). Also, if I add a bookmark it stays during the session, but does no persist across close and open of Safari. I did not change safari preferences. I am running OS 10.7.1 on a macbookPro. I can't recall any changes I made on Sept. 1 - maybe a software update. Are there any similar problems or possible fixes?

I see only up to end of August (this is Sept. 18)
Go to Safari / Preferences - General
You may need click the pop up menu to reset where you see: Remove history items
For the bookmark issue, could be a corrupted preference (.plist) file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Why does Safari not 'remember me' on websites I visit?

I recently upgraded to OSX Snow Leopard from Leopard. Even with 'private browsing' on, Safari always remembered sites I asked to be remembered on. Now with Snow Leopard, if more than a few hours go by, the sites I visit (newspapers mostly) always ask me to log in again. Why is this happening? (It doesn't happen on my iPad, just on my desktop). Is there anything I can do about it, with or without private browsing on?

Many sites have an automatic logout after a certain amount of time. Ask the sites in question if that is the case for them. If you clear your web browser's cookies, many sites keep login information in a cookie so that can also cause you to be asked for your credentials again.
    Regards.

  • Why can't I delete a bookmark using right-click in Firefox 7.01?

I am using Firefox 7.01 on Ubuntu

Did you convert the background into a layer before pressing delete? (by double clicking the background layer in your layers pallete)
otherwise, pressing delete will simply fill the selection with your current background color.
    edit:
also make sure you have this option unchecked:

  • How do I remove my bookmarked websites that appeared on my daughter's iPod Touch.

My daughter got an iPod Touch today.  When starting it up, I entered my email and password.  Since we share music, I though this was the best idea.  However, when I opened up her safari, all of MY bookmarked websites were on her iTouch. I would rather that my bookmarked sites stay off of her iPod... and visa versa.  I tried resetting the iPod to original settings... but it never asked me to enter an email address/password or to create a new account.  I DO want to share the account with her so it is easiest to share the music... but how do I keep the websites off?

    Back from where?
    Where did it go?
It should all be on your computer and included in your regular backup copy of your computer.
    Sync it back.

  • Why is my ipad suggesting bookmarks from my iPhone? I turned off iCloud safari and deleted all history, cookies.

I keep getting suggestions when I type a URL in safari and they are bookmarks synced to my iPhone. I did sync these bookmarks at one point to my iPad over iCloud, but since have deleted all bookmarks, cleared cache and history, turned off safari sync in iCloud between devices, turned off my iPad as well as removed safari from the multi tasking bar and I still can't figure out why these suggestions keep turning up when I type a URL. Does anyone have this problem as well, is there anyone with a solution? I turned off all safari syncing on iCloud on all of my devices as well. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2 iPad 4 iOS 6.0.1. Thank you Apple community for devoting you're knowledge and time to us Apple users in need of assistance. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help. If there is such a thing in this situation.

Have you poked around in the settings? there are a lot of things defaulted to on that you may not need, such as background app updates, background app refresh and notifications.

  • When I bookmark a website, the address is hijacked by an advertising website. If I try to delete the bookmarks, I can't do so. If I try to add a new bookmark, an ad website attaches to it.

This began a long time ago and I stopped using Firefox because it appeared to have a virus or something. Now, I need to use Firefox because a certain website that I need access to works in Firefox but not in Safari.
In the bookmarks manager, there are only three websites that appear and I cannot delete them. None of my real bookmarked websites appear. I have tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the software, including everything on my computer that contains "firefox" or "Mozilla"--to no avail. When I reinstall, the bookmarks reappear.

Chard..this is Chard, will someone really read my pleas for both needing help...and wanting to give the Mozilla Family help? Hmmm...I am hopefulllll...

  • Stop Safari from Deleting Bookmarks

Problem: I have the bookmarks page open (my new windows start that way). When I type in Safari's address and search bar, if I make an error, Safari will notice the misspelling and underline words. Meanwhile, I have noticed the error. I type backspace a few times to erase what I've typed. The focus in Safari jumps to the bookmarks column and begins deleting bookmark folders, one for each backspace.
Why? How do I stop this? (Other than never correcting my typing.)
I am not interested in solutions to recover these folders. I use Time Machine. But I need this behavior to stop.

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Text ▹ Text ▹ Use symbol and text substitution: Off
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Edit ▹ Substitutions
    and uncheck Text Replacement.

  • Why does Safari freeze when the cursor hovers across "Bookmarks"?

    Safari v 4.1
    Hi,
When I move the cursor over "Bookmarks" in the menu at the very top of the window, Safari freezes for about 5 minutes. It can also freeze when the cursor is simply passing under the "Bookmarks". When I'm moving the cursor horizontally across the entire screen, I have to keep the cursor well below the top menu bar to avoid freezing Safari. Otherwise Safari is working OK. I often Force Quit" Safari when this happens, but if I wait, it will unfreeze.
This is all about hovering, not clicking.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to fix it.
    Thanks, Rafael

    Hi Carolyn.
First, about resetting. I've never done it before, and I recall hearing—but have no direct experience—that it practically wipes the slate clean. I've built a very sophisticated Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu, and because I'm a researcher, I never erase history. When I started using Safari a long time ago, I was told by Apple to regularly erase history. Then a couple of years ago I was told by someone I trust that it's OK to keep it.
I regularly empty Cache and remove cookies.
Are these the top 5 buttons?:
    1 Clear history
    2 Reset Top Sites
3 Remove all webpage preview images
    4 Empty the cache
    5 Clear the Downloads window
I got this list from Safari Help>Resetting Safari. I'm using Safari 4.1, but I noticed that this help page referred to Safari 5 in the 'Reset Top Sites' explanation: "Reset Top Sites: … Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari 5."
    As for the rest:
2 Reset Top Sites—I’ve never made use of this
3 Remove all webpage preview images—not familiar or I don’t recognize what it is.
4 Empty the cache—Fine with that
5 Clear the Downloads—window Fine with that
I’m letting you know about these details before I proceed with your instructions.
    Thanks for responding,
    Rafael
PS Since I'm asking about Bookmarks here, I've been meaning to find out something about my Safari Bookmarks.html that is exported, then backed up to one of my external HDs. If Safari or my computer crashes, and I re-install Safari, then import those bookmarks, are they re-created to look just as they do now in 'Show All Bookmarks'?
I have some old bookmarks (or 'Favorites' I think they were called) that, when imported (in an html format?), appeared as a long list, rather than as a neatly tiered record of folders and files.
