Why is safari automatically erasing search history

My iphone 4 is automatically deleting search history after a couple days... Is this common and how do i stop it?

Ok hmmm... Now I just looked at the history, and a day that was previously deleted is now back on the history tab. So it's deleting a whole weeks worth of history, and then a couple days later, one day comes back. Any suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this??

  • Why does Safari automatically download files?  I want option to download.

Why does Safari automatically download files? I want option to download or not. I didn't think it used to automatically download. But now every time I click on a file that has been sent to me it does give me an option to view or not..it just automatically downloads it. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Why does Safari automatically download files?
That's what Apple decided it should do. It's not my preferred option either to be honest.
I didn't think it used to automatically download.
Safari has always done this. Maybe in the past you had a third-party application installed that did this for Safari.
    Any suggestions?
Safari menu > Report Bugs to Apple... or http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
For more immediate action, have a search around www.macupdate.com or www.versiontracker.com to see if such an 'extension' exists to force Safari to prompt on download. (Bear in mind these kind of things can be sensitive to the version of Safari they're used with, so if Safari starts crashing down the line they would be the primary suspects to remove)

  • Can i erase search history in maps ios

    Hello,
I was wondering if I could delete the search history in maps, that appears when I'm entering a destination for a turn by turn direction?
    Thanks for your help.

The http://www.google.com/ site uses autocomplete="off" to prevent storing that data.<br />
    The Firefox page http://www.google.com/firefox doesn't use autocomplete="off"
The search filed at the bottom of the results page also doesn't have autocomplete="off".The search field at the top of the results page has autocomplete="off" (I have userContent.css code to see if autocomplete is used).

  • Why does Safari automatically uninstall plugins?

Whenever I install the Zotero plugin for Safari (here) I find that it is automatically uninstalled within a day or two. It doe snot appear to occur simply by restarting the browser, however I invariably will need to reinstall the plugin every other day. I've developed a reliable workaround where I have the plugin install file saved to my desktop as a readable-only (preventing automatic deletion), but this is less than optimal. This does not appear unique to Zotero, as I've also installed AdBlock on several occasions, however it usually disappears as well. Any guidance as to how I might troubleshoot this issue would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.  - Matt

I still have this problem. Any insights folks may have as to what I can do to correct the problem would be much appreciated. - M

  • Safari keeps erasing my history after i close it!

I am using Safari 4.0 on Windows Vista and it keeps deleting my history after I close it. I do not have Public browsing turned on and my preferences aren't set to delete history.
    Please help!

You can't make it like this, you should create new account with english name, and log in it. Your current account folder (on disk) contains non-english symbols, and safari can't address it - by changing the name, you don't change folder name, so you should create new account and run Safari from it.

  • Clear Google search history from Safari Toolbar (v.4.0.3 and up)

How to clear your search history. TEDIOUS but works.
*Delete Google results pages from the history*
In Safari 4.0.3 and up, you may now search your history. Search for the URL string www.google.com/search? and delete the records that match it.
*Clear the search strings from the toolbar*
Quit Safari then from the Terminal, run this command:
    defaults delete com.apple.safari RecentSearchStrings
When you start Safari again, the search history should be empty.
Somebody could probably build a shell script that searches the History.plist XML file and deletes the <dict> sections AND resets the Safari plist at the same time. I'm not that good with string manipulation, so I'm hoping somebody with experience could pick this up. Then that shell script could be made into an AppleScript or set up with Automator. Wishful thinking?

  • SAFARI 6: how do I clear Google search history?

There used to be an option at the bottom of the scroll down search bar for CLEAR SEARCH.
Now that Safari 6 has adopted the single info bar, that option seems to have disappeared.
So how do I clear search history?
I don't want to clear all history (i.e. sites visited),
    just search history.

    Thank you,
but the point of my question was precisely that in 2012,
the way that Google is presented within Safari is different
(e.g., there is now just a single search bar),
so some of the info on the old threads is no longer relevant.
That is why I titled the qustion clearly "SAFARI 6".
However, I have discovered the answer myself.
I think I was being just too impatient.
The same option of CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES  does come up
if you click and hold on the magnifying glass icon to the left of what is now the single Google search bar.
This click and hold opens a roll-down menu, and near the bottom is the CLEAR RECENT SEARCHES option.

  • Erase Google Search History

I can't seem to figure out how to erase the google search history bar (where you fill in your search) without resetting all of Safari. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi,
Safari preferences -> AutoFill -> (Other forms) -> Remove the ".google.com" entry.

  • Safari Search History

I know there is a way to manually clear the history of searches in safari search fields such as google. But is there a setting to change where safari will not automatically keep a history of searches? Thanks.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Setting History to zero items will affect the history of sites visited, but not the history of search items.
There are actually two separate search history lists.
One is the list of search terms entered into Google or other search pages. These can be cleared by clicking on Edit beside "Other Forms" under AutoFill in Safari's Preferences. and deleting the entry for those sites. These lists can be eliminated by unchecking "Other Forms" which will also disable autofill in all forms.
The other is the list of recent searches in Safari's search window. This list can be cleared by either clicking on "Clear Recent Searches" at the bottom of the drop-down list of recent searches and the other is by reseting Safari which will also reset just about everything that can be reset in Safari. I do not know of a way of keeping this list from being created.

  • Why will Safari no longer allow me to avoid saving my History?!?

So at first I updated to Safari 4, but being extremely unhappy with the privacy options of the new browser, especially Top Sites (and the exclusion of the stop/reload button), I quickly reverted to Safari 3. I'm not sure if it was this switch, or the recent upgrade of my laptop (from a 2007 white 13" MacBook to the new 15" MacBook Pro, I simply swapped hard drives to "migrate"), but the recommended "fixes" to avoid Safari saving any sort of history (i.e. changing the history.plist document to a simple text file, or by changing it to a read-only file) no longer work! Is there any other method for preventing Safari from maintaining a history file, I hate it and have never had any need for such a thing! I've also tried this simple terminal command: defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitHistoryItemLimit 0, also to no avail. I think this is an issue with Safari 4, because when I reverted back to Safari 3, I only altered a few files to be able to reinstall the older version. Help!

Enable private browsing. It says it does the following:
"When private browsing is turned on, webpages are not added to the history, items are automatically removed from the Downloads window, information isn't saved for AutoFill (including names and passwords), and searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the Google search box. Until you close the window, you can still click the Back and Forward buttons to return to webpages you have opened."

  • Why does Safari go into limbo when I try to search for some things?

Why does Safari go into limbo when I try to search for some things? I start to enter something in the search window. I get a drop down with suggestion I choose one and it pops up in my search window but just turns a color and does nothing!
If I quit Safari and bring it back up, then enter the exact same line it's fine. This is just one of the many problems I've been
having with Safari since I installed Yosemite.
Has anyone got any suggestions or is anyone having the same problem. Is there a way to maybe force my MacBook pro to reinstall Safari or possibly all of Yosemite. I seem to be having a lot of problems and judging by the responses I've received (That would be None) I must be the only one having any problem at all withYosemite. Not sure what to do.
Any help or suggestions would be great

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How can I get rid of "History and Bookmarks" section from the search history drop down menu in safari 6.0.2?

Let's just say I have saved bookmarks of things that i do NOT want my friends to see when they use my computer occasionally. I know they could go and find these bookmarks anyway in the bookmarks menu but they dont snoop around my computer. i would rather it not just pop up when they go to search for something or type in a webpage. If there is no way to customize what shows up in the drop down menu for search results then that is something apple overlooked. Not everybody wants things all in one place. Whats the point of deleting search history and website history if its just going to show the certain things you have bookmarked? Any solution to this would be appreciated. One solution i thought would work was disabling search from suggesting, but i guess that only supresses the webpages not the url/search bar. Oh and this is for safari 6.0.2 please dont give me outdated advice.
    Thanks

  • When I type in web searches, Firefox remembers them with a system similar to predictive text. How can I erase the search history list, because deleting the history with the organise tool doesn't work. Please help.

When I type in searches I don't want a box to appear under the search box trying to predict what I'm going to type next. Can I disable the system(prediction box) or erase the history list or both?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no effect, when I right click on the search bar all I get is; select all (which does nothing), add keyword to this search (which is the opposite of what I want) and add dictionary (again adding something). Do you have any other ideas? :)
