Why is safari opening random links

So sometimes when I use safari to google something another page will open to a link I have never been to before. I don't know what's causing this and I thought it might be a virus or something. They're really odd pages too, the last one brought me a site for open webcams. I don't even click into anything after i google something. safari goes to load google then opens another link.

May be Safari is included in the Login Items.
System Preferences > System/Users & Groups > Login items
If Safari is listed, select it and press the minus button at the bottom.
If locked, click the lock to open it.

Why is Safari opening the app store when I do not hit the link?(On iPad)

Well this was my first time using the support communities app on the web so when I tried to get the answer there were literally 1000's of post and I was not sure which one pertained to me and my iPhone issue. Sorry if I offended in some manner, didn't mean to.

• Why is safari opening spam?

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1.1 (11D201)
I have just cleared the browsing data, the cookies, and history of safari on my phone.  After going to m.huffipost.com, after the page loaded a new page loaded and it was a **** page!  Why is Safari opening other pages when I am not even touching the screen?  I have even had other spam pages open while I was on my banks website.

Sounds fair.  But I don't know how a reputable company would pay advertisers to maliciously hack apple products
What are you talking about?  No reputable company would do this, which is why you have some scumbags out there looking to make a quick buck.  They're the ones doing it.  It's certainly not Apple.  As I said..someone probalby hacked the wifi router you're attached to.
Any bets apple?

• Safari opens random advertising tabs

Today my computer started to open random advertising tabs. These tabs are typically related to whatever topic I've searched for or am visiting. I've looked for add ons, shut off extensions in my preferences, shut off pop up windows and it STILL happens. Please help. I have OS Yosemite 10.10.2
Thanks

• Why does safari open to top sites and not my homepage?

I recently accepted updates and now see that when safari opens it's in my top sites instead of my homepage.  I checked and my homepage is still listed when I check, but why doesn't that open anymore?

Thanks Alexandria, works like it did before.
I have two other things I'm noticing now and would like to get them back like they were previously:
1)  Previously when I hit the bookmarks tab it would be laid out in the whole window.  When I hit it now, it's only on the left side of the screen and the top sites take up the rest of the screen.  I liked it better before where I could see my bookmarks on the full screen.
2)  I notice the top sites now seem smaller.  Is there a way to have them the same size like they were before.
I'm new to Apple and the learning curve with this imac hasn't been easy.  I like keeping up with the updates, but hate when things change and you can't figure them out.  Seems like the simplest of things are so easy on a pc, but difficult on this imac.

• Why does Safari open with the last page viewed from the previous session rather than my homepage?

The only way I can get Safari to open to my homepage when starting a new session is to be sure to close all windows from the previous session before quitting Safari.  If I don't go through this process, Safari opens to the last site I accessed before quitting.  What am I missing?

I am having the same problem but in Mountain Lion the "System Preferences -> General -> Number of recent items -> UNTICK "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." option is not available. The only thing now is "Close windows when quitting an application." which I have ticked.  Under recent items there is only a list of numbers.
This seems strange to me. Any ideas?
Thank you.

• Why my iPhone5 opens random aplications and makes calls by it self when charging?

Werry weird thing happened. I was listening music from my iPhone5 and plugged it in for charging. Then my phone started making calls to people from my contacts, create emails and open random aplications. When trying to open settings it would open calendar or my contacts, trying to close aplications was imposible. For every one closed, two more would open. ??? That was the first i have came across of this problem. I have tried to reboot the device ( Power and Home buttons ) but issue still was happening when pluged in the charger. When unpluged there was no issue. Its a pitty i could not record this. Verry amusing .

Hello cyberpunk2029,
I had similar (but less dramatic) problems while charging.
Wanted to send a text and the phone went crazy, executing completely different ations than those I touched.
I also experienced this with my old iPhone 4, but I thougth it was because the phone was old. Now I have a brand new 5S and the same problem.
I read a weird tip that - in my complete helplessness - tried and seems to work (I've just tried it now, so I don't know if this actually solves the problem in the long run or it is just another coincidence, especially because the "solution" is pretty weird): remove the cover.
I have a simple silicone cover. After removal, the phone started to act normally.
Should you not have a cover on your phone... I don't wanna know...
Try it, hope it helps.

• Why does Safari open every time I open AppleScript

Every time I simply open (not run) a certain AppleScript, Safari opens(it is not told to do so unless the program runs, which it isnt)
ps - I am somewhat experienced with AppleScript, so I know that Im not doing anything to make it run the script
thanks you

I see it has stopped, but if the Safari Dictionary was open when you quit Applescript Editor, it will open the Dictionary when it opens, thus opening Safari.
But, if you didn't have the Safari Dictionary open, I don't know what was going on.

• Started yesterday, when clicking on many links, the finder screen comes up asling where to download the file. Safari opens the link successfully.

When opening a link on a web page or in email is attempted, the download window opens up and begins to download the linked info. The link can't be opened

You are welcome!

• Re: Mail and Safari opening randomly

Hi.
I sspoke to Apple support over the w/e. they feel it was prob malware. They got me do delete lots of stuff from the library but mo avail. In the end I was advised to reinstall from Time Machine from a period before the problem arose. All went well until I got a message saying "Unable to restore from this disk".
In the end I did a complete reinstall, which was v tedious and will take an hour or so per day for a week to get the computer back as it was. The odd thing is that the files on the Timemachine disk are all checking out ok and the disk verifies. Normally I have a copy of Supaduper to act as a second backup, but just this once...........
Best wishes
Andy

Hi Hackintosh
I have exactlly the same problem as described by Doug, but I am running latest version of Lion (10.7.3). It doesn't seem to occur if I log in as another user, and I have run both clamxav and cocktail.
Sometimes Safari opens spontaneously at a Bing search page with a load of nonesense in the search box, or sometimes the Mail app opens with an email written with similar nonsense, but empty address fields.
It is v irritating.
I have quite a few login items:
Day One agent (a journal app from the app store)
Jettison
Growl
Eye TV Helper
Busycal Alarm
Rogue Amoeba Schedule Helper
Jawbone updater
Total Finder
Fantastical
Radioshift Helper
Dragon Express
Hazel Helper
Insync
Dropbox
Thanks for your advice

• Iphone safari open new link?

Hi, I wondering why all of a sudden when I open a new link in safari it opens a new window but it also replaces my current window so I have two windows open with the same website. For example when I searching on google news, I click on a news story and it opens a new page to the website and then the website also opens up on the current google news page. I wondering why this is happening?

Hey Drusus,
The way the links are created will determine if they open in a new window or not.

• Why does safari open a new window when a search is entered

so I open safari like normal , go yahoo bookmark. then do a search thru yahoo. select it then it opens a new safari window. How do I stop this , so the selected searched item stay on current tab, rather then opening a new window

I suspect that it is the Yahoo search page which is asking for a new window.

• Why is iTunes opening randomly after i close it?

Well, the title pretty much sums it up. About 2 minutes after i close iTunes, it opens again. On its own!
Any idea why?

Did you try repairing permissions? It has done the same thing to me but I think all I had to do is repair my permissions.

• Why I cannot open a link in a new tab, since I upgraded firefox to the latest version ?

I can't open a google search option in a new tab, since I upgraded Firefox to version 33.0. I also cannot downgrade firefox, to solve this problem.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes). See the Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode article for more information.
If Open Link in new tab works in Safe mode, one of the extensions/add-ons (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) was causing the problem. Then let us know what extension or plugin are you using that causes this problem.
You can also try the Reset Firefox Feature. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
See the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article for more information.
To Reset Firefox:
# Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: . Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
