Why is Safari so slow on my iPad2?

My browser seems very slow. I've tried it with my 3g connection and wifi and it doesn't make much difference which I use, so it's probably not the connection (unless they are both duff).
I've already cleared the cache.
Any advice on how I can speed it up?

I'm not sure what else to try if it is slow when using other WiFi connections outside of your own home and your ISP. The 3G connection will always be slower that WiFi so that is not unusual. And if you can connect to the iTunes and App Stores on the iPad and the pages load quickly enough, I'm not sure that you can do anything more to make Safari faster.
I use several different browsers - not so much becuse of the speed of Safari - but because it kind of bites - in my opinion. To me - it really is a bare bones browser that offers very little beyond the basic browser features - it has the reading list and the reader feature - but that's not enough to compare it to other browsers like iCab Mobile, Atomic, Dolphin (using Atomic right now) and Mercury. I also use Opera Mini but that one does not offer as much as the others.
You can try one of the other browsers and see what you think about those. Read the reviews in the App Store - and Google the other browser to see what others think - other reviews that are written outside of the App Store that is.
One last thought - you cleared the cache but did you try clearing everything in Safari - the history, cookies and the cache?
It could also be that a restore might be in order for your iPad, but if the Safari speed issue is the only thing out of the ordinary going on with the iPad, I would hesitate to try that at this point.

I'm assuming that when you say Safari is slow, you have tried another browser like FireFox... If you haven't that may be worth a try just to be sure its not a network issue. (Highly recommend FireFox)
After only a week I wouldn't think cache or Java would be a problem, but here's a few things worth trying...
Clear Safari Cache: Pull down the Safari menu -> Select: Empty Cache
Clear Cookies: Safari -> Preferences -> Security - > show cookies - Clear all
You can also Reset Safari: Safari -> Reset Safari (this will remove history, auto fill info, basically everything.
Clear the Java cache, open Finder, go to Applications -> Utilities -> Java
In the Java folder there are normally two Java Apps: "Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app" and "Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings.app" .
Quit Safari, and Run (double click) each one.
In Java 1.4.2 you should see a "Cache" tab and or a "Clear" button. In Java 1.3.1 you will see a Cache tab and a "Clear JAR Cache button.

Why is Safari becoming slow and unresponsive?

Ok - I have exactly the same problem. I can run safari and use it. After a short while it becomes slow and unresponsive. When I quit I get the rainbow ball of death and the only way I can stop the application is to force quit.
It is definitely linked to a particular network account as the guest account check above shows that it runs fine on another account.
As I watch system memory in actvity monitor while I use safari the fhe following occurs:
1.     free memory gets gradually used up to about 50%
2.     Inactive memory gradually builds to about 50% of total
3.     Then page in and page outs build massively and the swap file goes into overdrive
I have 32GB memory on board but even so it doesn't take long for Safari to gobble it up.
At the same time CPU % shows 90-100% and Real Mem sits around 15-18GB.
By this stage the whole machine is slow and unresponsive as safari ***** up all its processor and memory resources.
I have taken the following action:
1.     reset safari using the reset process built into the app - no difference
2.     deleted the preferences file - no difference
3.     deleted the Library/cache file - no difference
Thought about resetting NVRAM but decided that it wouldn't make much difference because it seems to be linked to a user.
Any thoughts/suggestions on other actions I can take would be welcome.
Are there other cache or preference files that I should be trashing. Can I delete and reinstall safari? I don't really want to have to go through the process of establishing a new user and rebuilding a reasonably substantial docs and photo library and set up.

You forgot to mention what version of Safari you have, but:
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
and clear your History)

If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:

One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:

You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

Why is Safari running slow on my MBP?

It just recently started to slow down. A few hours ago, I experienced it so I just turned off my MBP to, hopefully fix it, but Safari is still going slow. Yesterday, it was running fine and I was loading up pages fast. Now, when I ever I go to a new page or click a link, it pauses and the address bar above loads to about 3cm and the spinning color wheel spins for about 5 seconds until the new page loads. It does it for every thing I go to. Trying to ask this question probably took a minute to get to when it should only be a few seconds. I've tried Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and it is fine. When I enter a web address or click a link, in a few seconds, the new page shows. I really don't want to move to a new internet source because all my bookmarks and saves is on Safari. Is there a way to fix this?

Since Safari freezes before you can troubleshoot, boot in Safe Mode then try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plug-ins.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Firefox works well. Why is Safari so slow?

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

When I upgraded Safri to 5.1.4, it really became slow, I found that if I click some sites twice then it speed up a little bit, how can I fix this problem or to downgrade Safari?

Emptied the cache lately? From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, go to the Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Safari > Reset Safari
Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset. Try Safari.
Clearing your History trail can also help. Back to the menu bar click History > Clear History

Why is safari so slow with mountain lion?

Every page that I load in safari is extemely slow after upgrading to mountain lion. I dont have any other applications and it takes way too long. I can open the same page on my PC much faster. I really hope Apple releases an update soon because this is terrible. Apple even promotes mountain lion as having faster speeds for safari (what a joke).

Why is Safari suddenly slow to respond?

Hi,
I have an ipad3 and running 6.0.1.
For two days now Safari seems to be very laggy when I first select the app.
When I try closing or opening a tab the X or + glow for a few seconds before the tab opens or closes.
This continues until the "spinning wheel" disappears from the top left hand corner of the screen which can take up to ten minutes.
After that the app runs normally.
Any suggestion for this change?

1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two and tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

For broadband download should be anywhere from 15 to 20Mbps, upload 4 to 6Mbps.

I have other mac's on my home network that are still running Snow Leopard and the are performing well. I wanted to use the iCloud so I upgraded and instantly started experiencing the slow down, to the point of ridiculousness. Other function are mixed some normal speed, others a day on the beach with the spinning ball. Firefox is at full speed, good thought, haven't checked Chrome yet.
Last night and hooked into a projection unit that adjusted my screen resolution for a presentation and after the event my Mac reset back to the normal settings and Safari launched and is running normal speeds so far. In the past there have been issues with performance speeds and certain resolutions, has anyone had similar luck or is this a fluke?

It can depend on how long you save your History, how many Bookmarks you have. Safari is far more secure a web browser than Firefox. Also, if you have any third party Safari plugins installed or use Safari Extensions, that can slow a browser down, or if you visit sites that stream Flash content, that can also be a factor.
Very hard to compare two browsers. One written by Apple, one written by Mozilla.
Your profile: v10.6.4. If that's the case, keep your Mac OS X software up to date by clicking your Apple menu / Software Update.
Also... maintenance. Boot from your install disc once a month. Check to see if there are any errors on the startup disk that need repairing. Problems with the startup disk can definitely cause any browser problems.

I have recently upgraded to Tiger. Since doing so, web pages loading on Safari have slowed down drastically. Navigating from one web page to another has become painfully slow whereas it was almost instant previously (we have an excellent broadband service).
I run a 17 inch G4 Powerbook with 1 GB RAM.

Do not use "Reset Safari" unless you are prepared to lose all Internet passwords saved in your keychain.
"Reset Safari" is intended for clearing personal information that may have been saved while using a public Internet terminal running Safari. While it can be used as a Safari troubleshooting action of last resort, it was not designed with that intent and one should backup their keychain first. See the AppleCare Knowledge Base document “Safari 2.0 Help: Resetting Safari.” Unfortunately, Reset Safari cannot be undone.
Two other ways to speed up Safari:
• Empty it's cache: Command-Option-E.
• Quit and relaunch it if you've had it open for several days and visited many sites.
