Why is serial number 'invalid'?

A student is trying to install Creative Suite 4 Design Standard Student Edition on a macbook. She sent off details of her student status to Adobe and they duly issued a serial number.
The software installs ok up to the point where it asks for a serial number. When this is entered (it's the right number of digits etc) the word 'invalid' pops up and the installation process stops.
She contacted Adobe by phone to discuss - and they sent her another serial number. Same result. She's now tried 5 serial numbers supplied by Adobe and all of them prove to be 'invalid'.
Any ideas?

The software was actually supplied to the student by a third party so I'm beginning to think that it's the third party supplier's responsibility to supply a product that is 'fit for purpose', which clearly this is not.
if its student software then Adobe supplies the number.

Why ipad serial number in settings is not the same as the serial number in the back?

I took an ipad mini for screen replacement, everything was succesful. The customer calls me back claiming that the ipad wasn't his ipad. He went to store and claims that the serial number that shows on info of the ipad does not match the serial in the outer frame (the one in the back). I didn't check that on my procedure due to that I didn't turn on the ipad and in the recieving yes i wrote the serial number that is in the back. I check on several forums and some people where asking the same issue but in case of a purchase in a store or online, that their serials didn't match. I would like to know if someone have found this issue on any product, ipad, iphone, ipod or whatever other, having this issue with serials.

Here we work with repairs for devices that does not have waranty (expired or other issue). In this case, I did the screen replacement. No other ipad was on my station, the ipad arrives, i took it change the glass, put everithing back, give to customer. Thats it. The job was done by me, the customer test his ipad in front on me, works fine, everything ok. Few days pass and he came back saying that it wasn't his ipad, he brings the box that the ipad came and ask me why the serial number does not match the serial number in the box (sorry NOT in the back of the ipad).
There were no other part changed only glass. After 7 years working on this, thats the first customer complaining about a work done here. After this I was curious and look for more information and some forums, also one port here is claiming that the serial number on the device is not the same as the box where it came.
I just want to make sure that there are possibilities that there could be such mistake during the packaging process.

K450e motherboard replaced now says error code 00ce machine type and serial number invalid

Hey guys i just got a replacement motherboard, after motherboard was replaced on bootup the computer says error code 00ce: machine type and serial number are invalid. How do i get rid of this error it was replaced by the same motherboard type that was previously in the system. How can i reset the bios or enter the serial etc? Lenovo tech support was no help.

As the motherboard been replaced the serial number and MTM number must be updated this is a new motherboard, you can visit to the nearest authorized service center for the serial number update in the BIOS.

Sold Aperture 2 - but 'serial number invalid'

Hi there, please help
I bought Aperture 2 many months ago, but found it wouldn't work on my Powerbook G4. I then switched to Adobe Lightroom, and put the Aperture software in the cupboard.
I've just sold the software, but the new user gets the error message, 'serial number invalid'. It's possible I entered the serial number (can't remember), but the software itself was never used. How do I get the software to work for someone else?

If the serial number is valid it wouldn't care if it had been entered before or if it had been on a different computer. Is this a boxed set? It wasn't an upgrade was it? Do you still have the original serial number sticker?
Either the serial number you gave to the new owner is wrong or else they are entering it wrong unless the software you have was an upgrade in which case you also need the original serial number.
If you don't have the correct original number the only ones who can help are Apple.

Why is serial number suddently invalid?

Having used PS4 for years and having installed it on several computers, I suddently have an "invalid" serial number. After hours on "chat" and finally by phone I was told that my serial number had been "invalidated". I was instructed to go back to the store where I bought the PS4 and work it out with them. The "store" was either Office Depot, Office Max, or Staples, years ago, and 500 miles away. I would have no hope of finding a receipt that old. Even tax files only need to be kept for 3 years.
I am aware that this has happened to others following an Adobe update. I was told yesterday that Adobe could not help me unless I found the serial (registration) number. Now that I found it, I am told that Adobe has no idea when or why the number was invalidated, and since I did not "register" it years ago, that Adobe cannot help me.
I pointed out that not registering back years ago was not a big deal. There was a "register later" button, and most people just ignored registering. For this, I should not have Adobe later, capriously, invalidate my serial number and try to force me into buying a $400 upgrade I don't want and don't need. (I am a mom who uses PS4 maybe three or four times a year).
I feel like I fell down the rabbit hole. Can you please help me. I just want my PS4 back working so that I can make some edits on my Easter pictures.

It was not a counterfeit package, of that I am sure.
Going back a few years now, at about CS 3, or maybe CS 4, there WERE many counterfeit copies of PS, that made their way into the normal, certified re-seller stream. IIRC, all of those were "Printed in Singapore," but I could be mis-remembering there. Many certified re-sellers were totally blind-sided by those counterfeits, as they looked exactly like the legit copies, but for the "Printed in ___ ," in tiny print.
However, there ARE ways that others could get your S/N, for a totally legit copy of PS, and one, as you mention, would be to go to your shelf, open the box, and copy the S/N from the disc/paperwork. Another would be an inadvertant posting of a S/N (something that the MOD's here normally delete, as soon as it's noticed - though before they do, many might have made note of it) to a forum. There are people in this world, who would never hesitate stealing your S/N, and then giving it to all of their friends. Often, the justification is that PS is expensive, and the friends, plus the thief, are poor, students, struggling, just need a helping hand, etc. We see such all too often here.
First, I would pull out your box, and the discs, and look closely at the "Printed in ___ " small-print. Where does it list?
As has been mentioned above, did you Register (different from Activation) you copy of PS? If so, Adobe should have a record of that, and it should also appear in your Adobe ID information. Check there.
I wish that I had some easy "fix" for you, but that is the domain of Adobe Customer Support. I would call them (Live Chat can be OK for some things, but I think that this is beyond what they can likely do), and ask, citing what has happened to you, so far. If you can find the invoice/receipt from Office Depot, etc., have that, plus your package, handy, when you call.

Why is my serial number invalid?

I purchased lightroom 5 and I verified that I am a student and received the email with the serial number and product code, but when I go to open lightroom it says the serial number is invalid.

The protection system is so elaborate because people try to pirate the software incessantly and sometimes the elaborateness leads to fragility or misunderstanding about what to do.
There are several different kinds of LR (educational, enterprise, standalone, cloud, etc) and if the serial number is being rejected and was bought at a legitimate reseller, rather than someone selling pirated or stolen serial numbers, then it is possible it is being typed into the wrong kind of LR or even the wrong version (4 vs 5).
If you are using an educational version there may be a separate download you need to use—I’m not sure because I’ve never purchased an educational version of LR, but if there is a distinct version to download then there should be some instructions, somewhere (packaging, e-mail), that tell you that different location.
For a non-educational, non-enterprise, single-person standalone license, the version of LR 5 to download is the LR 5.6 link near the top left of this page: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
If you have installed a different kind of LR, such as the CC version, then you may want to uninstall it before installing what you download from the link, above.

What do you mean by "serial number in the box"? Do you mean that the serial number on the box your iPhone came is does not match the serial number shown in the iPhone itself? If that's not what you mean, please post back and clarify.

Using serial from product box, but serial number invalid after installation?

Ok, so. I have a copy of Photoshop 5, a physical copy, in the original box. I tried to install it on my computer, and actually did so successfully--it recognized the serial number from the box as correct and did a full install. However, when I actually opened Photoshop for the first time, a message came up saying that the serial number was invalid, and my options were to enter a new one or wait until next time, when I'd have to enter a new one for Photoshop to run.
I haven't closed it yet because I need it for work and don't want to risk it not running. Why would my definitely valid serial number not work? I double and triple checked what I typed in, and it initially accepted it, only rejecting it after installation.
I'm on Windows 7.

Did you purchase this copy of Ps 5 (Assume CS5, but please correct me, if it is the very old Ps version 5) from Adobe, or a 3rd party?
If from Adobe, log into Adobe.com with your Adobe ID and go to My Products. Verify the S/N there.
If from a 3rd party, it could well be that the S/N provided has been "used up."

Dreamweaver CS4 serial number invalidated after 8 months of use

In January 2nd 2014, I purchased an OEM version of Dreamweaver CS4 for Windows from a reseller called "Smart Shop" which looked like a serious outfit [emails from Jet Support were received with a link to "Access your order and customer support http://appscustomerscare.com"]. A serial number was obtained. I downloaded the program from their site and installed it without any problem: When I launched the application, the serial number was inserted and the Adobe server validated it: the application worked seamlessly for more than 8 months.
Yesterday, when I launched Dreamweaver CS4, a dialog box showed up stating the the serial number used was invalid! I used the serial number that I had been given to activate Dreamweaver but the form showed a red X at the end of the serial number meaning the the serial number was invalid.
