Why is shipping @ Lenovo so slow and disorganized???

I just wanted to relate a story about a purchase I tried to make thru the Lenovo Site.
We needed a new portable workstation for off site programming for one of our service techs. I had heard good things about the new Lenovo computers and I wanted to give them a try after years of buying Dell products for my business. I found a unit on the outlet, a system that was supposedly a built unit that was cancelled before shipment. Great that will be on the shelf no wait I guessed. I placed the order and was told by the site that an email would follow. That was on a Thursday, the next monday I had heard nothing from Lenovo so I called they said that the order was not processed yet to the point that the sales staff could help. I was told that it takes a couple of business days to get the order into their system. A couple of days go by and I finally get an email with a estimated shipping date 2 weeks away. WTF? So I call and they assure me that this is normal and they will ship on the date it says, I can't get any info regarding why is is taking so long, or a concrete ship date. Tech needs new computer like yesterday.Im frustrated but I wait the first week and call back to check the status on monday the following week as the web site gives no info. I am told that the ship date has been moved back another week. Ok that is enuff.. I cancel the items and go to a big name PC and Mac connection and place an order as soon as I get off the phone with Lenovo "New Delhi location". Now here is where it gets good I find the same exact laptop with more RAM for the same price, and this one is new with the full warranty not a refurbished unit. It gets better I placed the order at 1:00 PM on Monday the unit was delivered today at 9:00 AM the following Wednesday.
Now with all that said......
Why is the sales database not live?
Why is the estimated shipping wrong on a prebuilt unit?
Why does it take 72+ hours for one computer to transfer my order to another? especially because this is a "world class" computer company. Where is the Intranet?
Why is no one able to tell me what the status of my order other than its not ready yet?
Why was my card charged three weeks before the unit was scheduled to ship? It was removed when I called and explained that Im not paying for any products that aren't shipped.
Why is the phone staff either unwilling or unable to help?
The other supplier was able to give me a ship date and tracking info at the time of sale, and it was right.
Now here is my personal favorite part. When I cancelled the order with Lenovo they said I would receive an email stating the status of the order was cancelled. This was several hours before I placed the new order with another supplier. This was suppose to be with in the next 24 hours. I received my complete order for the other supplier and I have yet to receive an new info from Lenovo.
This is no way to run an E business site. As some one who provides computer programming to enterprise level companies this system needs some major overhaul work. This is suppose to save customers time and provide better info than an traditional phone ordering system, but from what I have witnessed that is far from the case. Heres to hoping that this isnt a sign of things to come with this unit, I really hope this is worth all the trouble.
PS I received a free laptop case also with my new purchase.

I appreciate your angst on the matter.   However, it's only been 3 days since you ordered and sending back the dock without knowing whether you date can be improved to meet your expectations seems like it might create a bit of churn, and subject you to restocking fees on the dock unnecessarily...  I'd like to help.
How about this, can you send me a PM with your order number and let me see on Monday if I can provide you with a more definitive date?
In terms of what you have read online, I would also suggest separating the Canadian order experiences from the US experiences.   Last summer June-August, the US experienced some delays on T61 systems, and discussion about that certainly filled the forums, but it was all resolved, and things have generally been running pretty well as a whole since.   Earlier this year, the Canadian ordering system went through some changes, and there has been a lot of discussion online about it.  Cycle times have been weeks, and in the first part of the year were really quite long for some customers, but are definitively improving now. 
In the US, the system provides Estimated Ship Dates based on default component lead times.  Often these provide a rather conservative / pessimistic view, and I can understand your apprehension concerning a mid April delivery.  
But let's see if we can resolve this.

    Periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The 4G only has 256 MB of memory.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Why your backups are so slow and what you can do about it.

    So you know your backup us slow and want to know what's wrong.
    Here it is:
    1) Transferring files from the iPad to your computer happens at an unacceptably slow rate of ~100 KBytes per second, even though it is connected via USB2. (You are using a USB2 port, right?)
    2) The iPad/iTunes backup process introduces a multiple second pause between each and every file that gets backed up. Ugh!
    As bad as problem #1 is, it's really problem #2 that is causing everyone serious problems.
    Here's what happens: Some applications create many very small files. The free NPR app is one. If you have lots of photos, that can be another. When you back up these tiny files, even though they may be only 1 KB in size, they can take up to 5 seconds each to transfer. In the case of NPR, each jpeg is stored separately and is backed up separately. If you have 500 jpegs, each one is only 2K in size, but there is a 5 second lag between files, you have to wait an extra 2500 seconds (41 minutes!) to back up that 1 megabyte of data.
    Why this lag between files? Only Apple knows for sure. My guess is that it is due to the creation of the metafiles sent to the computer during the backup process. If the iPad is generating the metadata as an actual file in flash, the delays might be caused by read-modify-write cycles in flash. I want to say to Apple, why hasn't this been fixed? This problem is obvious to anyone who bothers to take a close look at the backup process. I can't believe they don't know about it. Do you really need so much of a lag between transmitting files? But I digress.
    The real question is, what to do about it? The answer is that you have 3 choices:
    1) Do nothing and live with it.
    2) Turn off backups. There are several apps out there that can do this, just Google it.
    3) Figure out which applications are guilty of producing large numbers of files and can them.
    To go about #3, get a copy of AppleSlowBackupLiveView from http://files.m4ko.de/applesync/
    Start a backup, figure out what folder the backup is being written to, then paste that folder into AppleSlowBackupLiveView and hit the "Check This Backup" program.
    Each time a new file is being backed up a new line will appear. If you see the same application appearing over and over and over again, you know that this application is partly to blame. You can hit the Remove Duplicates button to combine all of the entries for a given application into one line and then look at the "Total s" column to see how long it took to back up that application.
    Apple really needs to address these two issues, especially the second one as it should be very easy to fix. Simply find out what the iPad is doing between file transmissions and eliminate that problem. If it is prep work, start a new thread on the NEXT file to be backed up while the current one is being transmitted. There are ways to fix this. Please do!

    Follow these steps
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
    Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Why is my EX3 Footage slow and pixelated in FCP?

    I shot on an EX3 and I used XDCam Transfer to turn the files into usable .MOV files. However, when I import them into FCP and try to watch them the video is slow and a bit pixelated. Did I miss a step? Should I also then use Log & Transfer after I use XDCam transfer? Do I need to turn them into ProRes 422 files?
    Clip info is:
    Frame Size - 1920 x 1080
    Vid Rate - 25 FPS
    Compressor - XDCamEX 1080p25 (35 Mb/s VBR)

    Thanks David. All my media is stored on an external drive. We shot in 25 fps. I am viewing it in the canvas at Fit To Window. I guess slow might be the wrong word because I just watched an interview and the pacing/audio was fine. The footage is a bit pixelated and jerky in the Canvas when I play it. When it is stopped, it becomes clear again. When I pop a clip into the sequence I don't have to render it to view it, but I have the same problem of jerky and pixelated footage.

    Did you post from the system that has the problem? (Your "More System Details" list shows Flash 11.7 instead of 11.8 for some reason.)
    This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash ''(I see from your post that you've done this part)''
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"

    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)

    DSL you are sharing up and down stream with your neighborhood. Again I would put a call into your service provider and ask them what has changed,  and what can they do- to eliminate this variable which you have no control.
    You can option click on your Wi-Fi menulet upper right corner and get some info about how you are communicting with your router.
    2.4 Ghz or 5.0 Ghz,  something change in your environment, micro wave, moved the router, moved the computer, ad infinitum.

    Fire Fox was running great, and then for some reason, it starting runnning extremely slow. When I type it is slow to appear on the screen, ads from websites are jerky, and even the circle spins slowly for every web load/refresh. I went as far as uninstalling Fire Fox to include favorites and associated data, re-downloading and installing. This did not help either. I had to use IE to even ask for help, its that bad. AVG Virus scan and AVG PC tune up fixed problems and several reboots did not help. Did not crash. Please help, I dont like IE.

    I had same problem. At least in my case it's due to Nvidia Graphics Card using 3D rendering feature.
    When I played videos on YouTube Firefox was loading these DLL:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\nvSCPAPI.dll

    Disabling Nvidia 3D crap fixes the problem for me!!

    I have tried all sorts to fix this. The obvious resetting, rebooting etc of the router. I have spoken to my provider and stuff.
    My internet on my iMac is terrible. I turn off wifi and back on and it works for about 20 seconds then stops. Very intermittent and hardly ever fast.
    My iPhone however loads pages and apps that use the internet instantly. I am sitting at my computer so i cannot see why there would be a difference!

    Use the 5GHz Band Compared with the 2.4GHz band, the 5GHz band is practically empty. The newest AirPort Extreme Base Station is one of the few Wi-Fi base stations designed for home use that work in that 5GHz band. All of Apple’s Core 2 Duo laptops and iMacs (except the discontinued 17-inch 1.87GHz model) can also use the 5GHz band; with the build-to-order wireless option, so can the Mac Pro.
    To switch to the 5GHz band, launch AirPort Utility, select your base station, and switch to Manual Setup. Click on the AirPort button and select the Wireless tab. Select 802.11n Only (5 GHz) from the Radio Mode pop-up menu. Click on the Wireless Options button and select Use Wide Channels. Click on Update to restart the base station.
    Currently, no Mac-compatible adapters enable you to use the 5GHz band in older Macs or with older versions of OS X.

    Move the Base Station If interference is particularly bad in one part of your house or office, move the base station to another location. But this can be tricky if your AirPort base station has to connect to the broadband feed coming into the house and that feed happens to enter at a particularly interference-prone spot.

  • Why has firefox become so slow and it use to be so fast, why do pages take so long to load now.

    Firefox use to be very fast. Now it takes a long time for pages to load. There is no malware or spyware. Hardware is working right. Have started using Safari to get the speed I use to get before, but I miss Firefox. I disabled all my addons and plugins and still at times it reminds me of dial up. I have a cable connection of +15 mps. I also constantly clean my cache so it isn't that. IE is much, much faster as well. I have totally uninstalled it and reinstalled it as well, but it doesn't help.

    Maybe it is a problematic add-on? At the top of the Firefox window, select Help<Restart With Add-ons Disabled. This will start Firefox in safe mode. If you notice anything is faster, than chances are the problem you were having was an extension. Disable all of them, then begin enabling them one by one. Restart each time you disable an add-on. If you notice Firefox is slow after enabling a certain add-on, then, problem solved (hopefully).
    Another thing you can do is install FasterFox, a helpful add-on that increases the speed of Firefox. Download here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fasterfox-9148/

  • Why is my iMac so slow and now it is locking up on me

    My iMac is soooooooo sow and it just locked up on me. Screen went white and a folder with a question mark was flashing and would not do anything for at least 8 minutes.  I had to turn it off from the on/off switch and it took almost 10 minutes to turn back on.

    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
