Why is some of my text not formatted correctly in xml?

Hello,
I've been trying to do some xml publishing via Framemaker 9.
I've created EDD, DTD, rules, structapps, CSS (style sheet), and template files to transition manuals from framemaker to xml. However some of the text I see in the xml file isn't formatted quite right. The element tags are there, but some of the text/paragraph tag formatting hasn't carried over.
What I'm trying to figure out is if this means I have an issue in my rules file or in my stylesheet file? As anyone had a similar experience?
I would appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

No .. I did mean to import the template and EDD into the XML file.
You're saying that when you open the XML you're not seeing the formatting .. that's where the template and EDD need to be imported.
The way a structure application works is when you open an XML file in FM, you are either prompted to select a structure application or it is asigned automatically based on the doctype or public ID. If you've only got one structure application with the "Chapter" doctype, then it should get assigned automatically. It opens the XML file and imports the template from your "Template" file as well as importing the EDD that's been imported into that file. Doing this manually will simulate the process. If it works when you do it manually but not when you just open the XML file, then the structure application isn't set up properly.
Your rules file may be OK, but it's likely that the DTD needs to be tweaked a bit if it's been generated by FM. I would disable all of the CSS settings .. those really aren't needed for what it sounds like you're doing.
This is one of the reasons that I discourage people from using structured FM files. It's easy to end up with a mix of structure (elements) and unstructure (tags) and it all looks fine .. but when you save to XML, you're only going to get the structure bits.
The conversion process from unstructured FM to XML can be very difficult. You need to spend the time to really understand how all of the pieces work (DTD, EDD, etc), and you may want to rethink your model to make it efficient and useful. You don't just want to do a one-to-one mapping from tags to elements .. if you do you're missing the whole point of XML. You'll probably need to set up some scripts and automation to perform analysis and refactoring of the content before conversion, as well as some cleanup after conversion.
Also .. unless you have a really good reason to do otherwise, you should take a serious look at using DITA or DocBook. These models are not perfect, but using one of them will simplify your life considerably and will allow you to take advantage of the huge pool of authoring, publishing, and development support that exists for those models. Developing your own XML model is a big thing to undertake.

  • Why does text not format correctly when pasting into outlook?

I am attaching a Screenshot of an email to better help you understand.
Basically, I receive an email from customer.  I draft an email to respond and send to my boss to get approval.  Once my boss approves, I go back to my original sent email and copy and paste into a reply to the original email from my customer but for some reason in Outlook for Mac it doesn't format correctly.  It always pastes the text in a sorda column if you will, as though word wrap isnt working.  When I send it, it looks even worse to the customer, especially if they are looking at it on a phone.  I have looked high and low and cant find an answer.  Thanks in advance!
FYI I copied and pasted the text into "Pages" to show exactly what it is doing.

  • IOS Numbers - Korean Hangul text not formatting correctly in cells

For example, I'm trying to enter the Korean word ‘가면' into cells but the text is not grouping correctly. The final letter 'ㄴ' is not associated with the related syllable. Instead of '가면', I get '가며ㄴ'.
I don't get this problem in others apps, only Numbers. I can copy and paste the correct form '가면' from other apps, but obviously this is a bit laborious.
Any idea how I can fix this please?    (I've got 2 keyboards enabled, Korean and english). Thanks.

This may be a bug that only Apple can fix.  You can report it via

  • Why is my text not formatting correctly - leading issue?

Hi I am having trouble with text formatting. I am creating multiple documents using the same file as a template. I have a text box filling half of the canvas and am copying text into this from a Word document. The first file I created this text formatted fine, however after saving and renaming the file to create the second copy when I replaced the text the line spacing isn't observing the formatting in the character palate - and looks like this. I have tried copying the text into a plain text editor and copying in from there in case it's bringing Word formatting with it, that doesn't fix the problem. Last night I managed to get a work around by retyping the text directly in PS, a labourious chore and not an ideal fix, but this morning even that is not working and it's formatting as in the photo below. Changing the line spacing to auto doesn't fix it. Creating a new PS file and copying the text/retyping the text doesn't fix the problem either.
What else can be affecting the text format other than controls in the character and paragraph palate?

That is odd... did you try changing fonts? Upping the leading? Maybe try pasting the text into a note in photoshop... you can find the note tool nested with the eyedropper, then copy and paste it out of there into your page... I know this is weird... but make sure your text from word is actually in paragraphs and not soft returns...

  • Why are some 100% Accurate Rips not matched by iTunes Match?

Why are some 100% Accurate Rips not matched by iTunes Match?
Is there an Apple Support employee that can address this question?
The phenomenom occurs for over 500 of my tracks spread out among 100+ albums.
Certain tracks simply do not match to the iTunes library, despite being 100% Accurate bit-for-bit Rips. For reference, I use dBpoweramp for ripping, which checks CRC.
As an example, take Aerosmith's "Get a Grip" album; Tracks 2 and 5 will not Match to iTunes, despite perfect integrity in the ripping process.
Upon looking further into those particular tracks, I notice a discrepency between the "track length" reported on the iTunes store page, and my accurate rips for those tracks [track 2 & 5 on iTunes: 4:09 & 6:19, respectively; track 2 & 5 direct accurate rip from physical CD: 4:10 & 6:07, respectively].
So clearly, with track 5, there is a major discrepency, 12 seconds difference, which leads me to think the iTunes release of this album and retail release of the CD I physically own are quite different.
Well there, I guess I've solved the "reason" for the undesired functionality, but it certainly doesn't solve the issue at hand.
A major aspect of the iTunes Match product is To Match, so that, in part, bit-rate upgrades can take place, and also to provide management and format uniformity.  I do realize that there is no guarantee iTunes has every album one could own, and entirely un-matched, and thereby Uploaded, Albums are a significant upside feature of iTunes Match; however, 1+ tracks on each of a significant quantity of albums, which iTunes carries, not matching to iTunes creates heterogeneous-format albums, and significantly more library management.
If there is a workaround for this issue it would significantly improve the user experience for iTunes Match.  A user shouldn't have many hetereogeneous-format albums when iTunes carries/sells those albums, and the user has perfect quality rips from their physical CD.

  • Why are some of my songs not in order in my albums?

I was wondering why are some of my songs not in order in my albums? This wasn't a problem when I first used i-tunes, but I had to download a newer version of i-tunes to get my sister's ipod to work.  For Example my album "AC DC Live" has track #3 Back in Black as the first song listed.  How can this be fixed?

    Hello igho234,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. You don't mention how those songs got onto your playlist, but this article may address your issue, if they were imported from a third-party application or CD.

  • Why does some of my text in imessage get underlined?

Why does some of the text in my imessages get automatically underlined, and how do I change this please?

Is it underlining phone numbers, links? You cannot change it when highlighted blue. If it is underlined red then it has registered as a spelling error. Try going to (Settings > General > Keyboard) There, you can turn off "Check Spelling" and it will no longer underline any words.

  • Why are some sort order texts goasted rather then solid black?

    To all and anyone
    The subject says it all...
Why are some sort order texts ghosted rather then solid black?
    Thanks!
    Fred

The ghosted/grayed values correspond with auto sorting. Auto sorting drops the leading articles, a/an/the, and variations in other languages, so that for example, The Beatles sorts as Beatles under B unless you explicitly override the auto sort by putting The Beatles in the sort value so that it sorts under T.

  • Why do some if my texts show on my ipad and others only on my phone??

Why do some of my text messages come up only on my iPhone while others are shown on iPhone and iPad?

As I understand it, if your iPad is wi-fi only, you will only see text messages sent from other Apple devices. Others sent through cellular service will only be seen on a cellular device, i.e. the iPhone.

  • RTF not formating correctly

    Hi everyone
I imported an RTF document and inlcuded it in my splash screen. I have some lingo that updated the ducumented when the EXE is ran:
    on beginsprite me
         member("Lawyer_bio").fileName = the moviePath & "Lawyer_bio.rtf"
         member("Lawyer_bio").rtf = member("Lawyer_bio").rtf
    end
For some reason, the bullet points on my document are not formating correctly. It works fine with some RTF documents, but with other it does the following:
See how only the first bullet if formating correctly, why are the other ones not? Like I said, it doesn't happen with all the RTF documents.
    thank you for your time,
    Rafa.

    Dear Rafa,
Please check to see that the sprite cast you were transferring into was not a accidentally a “field” cast member.  Text and field objects have different properties and methods.  Both sprites should be Text cast members. (I can visualize the problem you describe occurring if you were transferring into a Field Cast member from a Text cast member.)
Curious about how dynamic your application will be, Rafa.
I did not experience the same problem when attempting to duplicate the scenario you described.
Are the formatting errors introduced when you import the file?  Or were they already there in the RTF document before you imported?
The way I would troubleshoot is to ‘put char()’ in the message window, from just before to just after the bullet, comparing that with another Text cast member that has properly formatted text, and discover the anomaly.  It should then be easy to write a Lingo handler to detect anomalies and correct the formatting.
Here is the syntax for text cast members, illustrated.  By creating two text cast members (“A” eh) on the stage, then go to the message window and try:
set T1 = the member of sprite 1
set T2 = the member of sprite 2
    et T1.text ="Hello World"
    set T2.text = T1.text
    put char 1 of T2.text
put the text of member 1 of castlib 1  -- or use the name of the cast member …
    likewise:
put char 2 of (member 2 of castlib 1).text
TEXT cast members are much improved over earlier versions of Director.  You used to only be able to manipulate FIELD cast members with Lingo, and the limit to a field cast member was 32kb.
Adobe keeps on improving Director.  I wonder if Adobe will revive the Shockwave player, or build Director Shockwave into Acrobat.
I’ve been out of the game for a long time.  I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25408887?ac_cid=op123456#25408887
The problem is my wife purchased some iBooks fromt the Apple iBook store and they are not formatted correct for the her iPad2. What is strange is they can be read on the MacBook Pro using 10.9.2 and the iPad was recently updated.
He books on the iPad go away and it takes a reboot to get them back. All of the older iBooks work.... the new ones are formattted wrong

    >My wife has an appointment at the Genius Bar this afternoon to discuss the nonstandard format being sold by iBooks.
B-I-N-G-O   The Genius Bar person FIXED it for her!
The problme was the Apple server sent her bad files.  The fix was to delete them from the iPad2 and download them again. She was not charged for the 2nd download  the three books all work perfect now.
What willl be interesting is she has the good copies on the iPad and the bad copies on hte MacBook Pro.  Will synce move the good books iTunes on the MBP or will it sync the bad books back tto the iPad. Stay tuned

  • File not formatted correctly error

    Dear All,
when am trying to import a contract file as excel sheet, not CVs file, i get the error ( File not formatted correctly ). any advice?

the issue with date formatting would be corrected in Excel. When an export file that includes dates is opened in Excel, they get reformatted by the Excel program. In my experience, I have had to reformat those cells in Excel to the YYYY-MM-DD format and save the Excel file before I could import again into CM. But, if you are just exporting and then importing without opening the file in Excel, then the dates are not the problem. What are you exporting from CM? Are you trying to import into a different project or database than you exported from?
