Why is someone elses machine connected to mine via bluetooth?

Hello,
I'm here to report strange bluetooth behaviour on my personal/work computer.  It's a late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15" that's running Yosemite.
Occasionally, when I try to remedy the constant bluetooth connection dropping issues that I have, I click on the menu bar icon for Bluetooth, and to my surprise, find that "Ian's Macbook Pro" is connected to my machine. I have never paired this machine with my computer before. I find it really odd that another computer is sometimes connected to mine without me authorizing it. Whats really odd about this is that here at the office we have a shared network, and I know for a fact that Ian's Macbook Pro is not part of our network. His computer must be in another office or floor.
I took a look at the Bluetooth Preferences to try and remove this connection from my list of paired devices but it doesn't show up on the list.
Isn't this odd? What could a connected computer see or do once paired with my macbook pro? Are there any security risks here? How do I prevent his computer from pairing with mine?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Check in your settings - under Mail, Contacts, Calendars...
In your accounts you will find that your email accounts will also have notes. If you share an email account, you might have notes turned on as well...

  • Why is it when i try connecting my iphone via bluetooth it says my computer is not supported?

Why is it when i try connecting my iphone via bluetooth it says my computer is not supported?

Because File Transfer, buy Bluetooth, has never been supported on any iPhone. Your computer and iPhone will only pair, by Bluetooth, if you're trying to Tether. If you're not trying to Tether, you can quit tring, as your phone won't pair.

  • Won't connect to ipad via Bluetooth

why won't my iPhone connect to my iPad via Bluetoot?

Well, I should have asked Pagancelt not sleeky as he said above he says he DID it.
    I quote:

I was successful in connecting my iPad and 27" iMac via bluetooth for the purpose of internet sharing, so it can be done. I was able to use my iMac's free wifi connection (which the iPad couldn't pick up, as I don't want to stand by the window) to get internet on the iPad. I forget how, unfortunately, which is why I'm back in the forums - my connection went down!
*Edit: Foolish me. My iMac shows up under "Devices" on the iPad Bluetooth pane in General Settings. All I had to do was tap it to revive the connection (since I paired the devices the first time I set up the connection). iPad is now getting internet off iMac again :-)

    Hi Tomiwa,
You cannot print from the iPad to that printer. AirPrint and Bluetooth are completely different.
There may be apps you can buy that will enable using that printer, but that is not an ideal solution.
That particular printer has had many bad reviews, and is unreasonably expensive for its features. Considering that you just bought the printer, as well as its lack of AirPrint, I suggest you return it and buy a printer that supports AirPrint.

You cannot link to another smartphone via Bluetooth from your iPad except perhaps to use the Xperia's personal hotspot (WiFi is supported, but I'm not sure about Bluetooth). If you wish to transfer files or data, that's not possible.

  • Connecting 2 iphones via bluetooth

Does anybody know how to connect to iphones via bluetooth?

Bluetooth on the iPhone is for headset pairing only.
The protocols for file transfer/etc are not present.

  • Samsung s8300 connecting with Macbook via Bluetooth

I just bought a new s8300. For some reason, the camera photos I take cannot be sent to my macbook via bluetooth. Does anyone know why?

No. I have a Samsung G600 phone. I have now been into the apple shop and tried connecting to the laptops there which was fine so oit would seem to be something wrong with mine and not the phone

  • Why does iPhone (3gs) sound better than Macs via Bluetooth?

Why does my iPhone (3gs) sound so much better via Bluetooth on my (Jawbone) Jambox than my new Mac Mini or 3 year old MacBook Pro?  Proxmity is about the same and doesn't seem to make a difference.
sound from via Bluetooth sounds muted like in a cave or can, pretty darn good from the iPhone, ideas? (in a test I did with a Braven speaker via Bluetooth = same, in that case the Macs sounded even worse!)
    Thanks,
    Paul

If I were you then I would have asked this question in the mac forums
as people there have a much much higher chance of owning those macs then people in the iphone forum who could own windows computer or linux computer or no computer at all

  • When I connect my headphones via bluetooth to my iPad 4 I lose my internet connection?

I recently upgraded to iOS 7.1 and along with the problem mentioned in the title there are many other, not so major problems but I can put up with them.
So basically before I updated I could do this fine with no problems but ever since it updated my Turtle Beach PX5 has been able to connect to my iPad via Bluetooth but as soon as the connection is established I lose internet connection which is extremely frustrating as I tend to FaceTime while I'm playing on a console.
If I go into the wifi settings no possible access points are shown unless I turn off my bluetooth. Although on one occasion I have been able to connect to both services but the bluetooth was very unstable and after 20 or so seconds it seemed to have disconnected itself.
It's extremely frustrating that I pay money for a quality product (might I add that I've very much enjoyed up to this point) expecting that both these services can run simultaneously when they cannot.
So I wondered if there is a solution to this? Has anyone else had similar problems? And is there any way I can downgrade as the newest update (for me at least) has been a major disappointment.

One thing you should definitely try is keeping your iPhone 4 connected via USB cable in your computer and restarting.  This should make the computer recognize that it is connected and as long as you have your iTunes set up to automatically open upon connection with your iPhone you should be all set!
