Why is Soundtrack Pro losing my audio???

I was working on a multi-track 5.1 surround project and then I added a fadeout effect to a small clip and then if I hit save afterwards, it will freeze up. I have waited at least 40 minutes until I decided to force quit. I have an iMac 2010 model with 2.8 i7 and 4GB of ram. I am using files that are in the AIFF format and they were transferred from a Final Cut Pro project. When I open up the project again, it will ask me to locate the missing audio. Luckily I figured out that I could use the raw audio that is in my hard drive but what happens next is half of it doesn't play. For example. I have 6 channels in my project each labeled by which speaker they go into (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, and Rs.) It will ask me to locate L or R or Rs so I locate them because it lost or deleted the one in the Edited Media folder for some strange reason so I'll use the raw files and it will work perfectly fine. But then lets say it asks me to locate "L" and I locate the raw file and then it will show a partial amount of the waveform on the track. And when it is played once it gets to the point where the waveform is gone the track will go silent. Why is STP doing this?????

It's an Olympus VN-6200PC, which records using WMP formats.
Do she have the Flip4Mac playback component installed on her system for playback of WMA (Windows Media Audio) files?

  • Soundtrack Pro losing audio!

Has anyone encountered (and please god, fixed) a problem involving Soundtrack Pro 2 actually truncating audio files (.aiff) so that data after a certain point in the track up and vanishes? For example, say a 10:00 audio file get some edits, is saved, then reopened, and voila—the 10:00 is now 05:00, with everything that existed after that point in the track simply gone. I've experienced this several times over the past few days, twice when saving, then reopening the file, and another time after flattening, which was really weird, because the newly flattened file suddenly consisted of only the first half of the file I had just been working on in the editing window. Great feature: Flatten the file and lose half your track. Anyone have anything on this? Thanks in advance.

You'll probably get a better answer if you post this in the Soundtrack Pro forum instead of the Mail and Address Book one

  • Why cant Soundtrack Pro be sold seperately?

Hello, first time poster on the forum and i have a couple of questions on my mind.
I'm getting a microphone w/pop filter, sound foam, and a mixer. I am thinking of buying Logic Pro 7 as my audio program, as well as soundtrack pro. The thing is, I cant buy Soundtrack Pro separately. The audio reduction in soundtrack pro is amazing and Logic Pro 7 doesn't offer that feature, which is what I want. I was thinking of buying Logic Pro 7 and Soundtrack Pro and using them together, but unfortunately Soundtrack Pro isn't sold separately. I would have to buy Final Cut Studio which is $1299 and Logic which is $999. Spending $2,300 hundred for both is ridiculous because I just want Soundtrack pro. My question is why isn't it sold separately, and if it is does anyone know where I can buy it?
    Thanks
    Steve

It's not a program designed to appeal to the sound
design or the musical song & dance group.
Your opinion. While I would never use it for music, it's a good start at an app for sound designers. Unfortunately, they haven't given it the updates it needs.
It's a program designed to assist video editors to
prepare a mix that would suffice for a preview
screening & do a rough sketch to present to an actual
sound designer using Logic or Pro Tools indicating
what the editor or director had in mind so that the
sound designer can come up with something better.
While Logic can be used for sound design, it is not remotely designed for it and in some respects is worse than even the primitive release of STP. And I honestly think it could take the place of Pro Tools in many situations if they put the resources into updating it.
In my opinion, they wanted to put an end to all the
carping from the groups who bought the program for
the wrong reason. In most cases these individuals
have no interest in FCP, DVDSP or Motion. They want
to make music. I think the decent thing for Apple to
do is to offer to refund their money or at least give
them a credit towards another Apple program such as
    Logic.
I don't think people bought the app for the wrong reason (I think few if any bought it to "make music"). I just think that people bought the app not realizing that Apple would abandon it and never update it past a version that is buggy and missing essential features.
While I'm annoyed with Apple and would certainly take a refund, I'm reluctant to give the program up because even the weak version it is at now has some features that I can't do in Logic (and the versions of PT available don't interest me).

Why would Soundtrack freeze and not open?

Well, it's still going to be only a 32 bit program, but first go to Edit>Preferences>General, click this button and restart the editor:
Then go back to the preferences>Performance and increase the amount of ram available to PSE.

  • Why does Premiere Pro CS5 process audio source before exporting clip in AME CS5?

Hello everyone, my first post here. I am currently trying out the trial CS5 Master Collection on my MacBook Pro. I've been using Premiere Pro CS5 to put together family videos. I select a certain portion of a sequence and queue it for export in Media Encoder CS5 in the format H.264 for iPod with video and audio.
Now in AME I have a queue list of about 5 clips from the sequence. But when I hit the Start Queue button, the bottom left of the progress bar states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips from the sequence then creates the first output file.
Then it moves to encode the second and again states "Adobe Premiere Pro processing audio source from [then file name]"  for all 5 clips of mt sequence then spits out only the second output file.
This continues for the remaining 3 output files. The total sequence length is ~32 minutes with transitions and it takes about 35 minutes to export which is all consumed by the process audio source of the 5 clips in my sequence for 5 separate times.
Is there a certain reason why Media Encoder or Premiere Pro does this process of audio source? Is this process necessary or needed? I experimented with choosing different output formats but the results are the same. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Now that's pretty good follow-up to your first post, and quickly too! Nice detective work.
As you have found, there is basically a Render/Replace operation going on in PrPro, to get the material in the correct form for AME.
Thank you for reporting, as it saved me, and others, from basically saying what you said.
Good luck, and sorry that you beat us to the punch.

  • Render video pon audio import from Soundtrack Pro

Unique issue I have here. My video is standard NTSC Animation Codec and is in my Sequence in FCS2. I import my project into Soundtrack Pro edit my audio, Export back into FCS 2 (following the manual to insure proper steps).
Once I arrive back into FCS2 my video needs to be rendered. It checked the codec and everything matches up fine. Why is it now asking me to render mt video?

    Paul,
Did you edit to picture inside STP? And was it in sync there?
You may have an issue with a frequency shift. Audio doesn't have frames. It really runs in "real time." So if you shift frequencies the units per second change. It still has the same number of units, so ultimately the time changes.
How did you get the audio into STP in the first place?

  • Soundtrack Pro Crashes

    I just upgraded to Studio2.
1- I can't get soundtrack pro to play audio through my external speakers. I get the following error message- Soundtrack Pro is dropping audio because your computers hard disk is not fast enough to deliver all of the audio in time. Isn't this a little crazy since I ma using a Mac Pro 2.66 computer and I am coming from an internal drive.
2- When I try to Normalize or do noise reduction and other types of fixes to my audio, Soundtrack Pro freezes up.
    I am running a MacPro 2.66 with 2GB RAM
I am running off of a G-Riad drive- Firewire 800.
I also tried to work off of my internal drive with the same results.

I have not upgraded to FCS2 and I expect to refrain from upgrading until these bugs have been resolved by Apple.
Larry Jordan posted the following comments about upgrading to Soundtrack Pro 2 and Motion 3 on his web site:
    # Soundtrack Pro 2 -- I like what Apple has done, but the application isn't stable. Wait for a dot release before relying on it for serious work.
    # Motion 3 -- The new tools in Motion are amazing, but the stability is not yet there. Like Soundtrack, use it for experimenting, but wait for a dot release before relying on it for tight deadlines.

  • Import Live type into Soundtrack Pro

I have created a live type motion menu and need to import it into Soundtrack Pro for precise audio scoring. Can I do this?
    Thanks
    Jeff

not to familiar with this, but I believe you could open the sequence up in FCP and then send to soundtack.

  • Something has gone wrong inside my Soundtrack Pro and I cannot figure it out.

So I can record with any other program on my Mac Pro, including the voiceover inside FCP, but cannot get a clean recording from Soundtrack Pro.
Everything sounds like this - https://rapidshare.com/files/4143174674/Track%201%20Recording%20232.aif
I thought it might have something to do with sample rates, but didn't notice anyhting.
I was using a Shure SM89 shotgun mic recording some family members commentating on old family film. I was going into a Behringer 1202 mixer, and then out into my Mac Pro from the line-in. I assume I cannot fix these recording, and it was my fualt as I had my headphones pluged into my mixer and not into the computer.
Now anything I record in Soundtrack Pro sounds like this, although it records fine in other programs.
    Any suggestions?

It is an analog mixer, and I have the main outs going to RCAs and then those paired down into a stereo mini jack going into my Mac Pro.
I actually have not messed with any setting in the program in a year or so, and it was working fine for that time. I recently updated to OSX 10.6 from 10.5, and I am wondering if that may have something to do with it?
Like I said this was working fine for the past year or so, and after that update I can no longer record anything usable in Soundtrack pro, all the audio sounds like the sample I provided.
That being said, I can open FCP7 and use the voiceover tool to record audio with the exact same set-up and it works perfectly fine, so for the meantime that is what I have been doing, and worst case scenario my MacBook Pro also and The FCP Studio installed on it, and I could always record to Soundtrack Pro through that.

  • Soundtrack Pro after fcp update, Bloody useless

Well the old fcp, worked fine for me quick, speedy, multiple programs open, fcp, soundtrack ect. I now find I cant run Soundtrack without super slow down, or crashing, its impossible to match audio to video now. what have apple done? I basically have nothing to edit with properly, I am so frustrated.
Anyone else noticed this? its as if its intel code running on the power pc it does not run smooth at all.
    I have a 1.8ghz PowerPc G5 with 2gb ddr Sdram
Any suggestions? old old fcp/Soundtrack Pro/ was super fast.
    Andy.

Well after a complete reformat and installing of fcp2 only, it is exactley the same. What a complete and utter waste of time, the old fcp was fast smooth and USEABLE its now stopping me working.
And to top it off i am now geting this..
"Soundtrack Pro is dropping audio becasue your computers hard disk cannot deliver all of the audio in time. Try removing some long files or quitting other applications"
I dont have anything else open and the file only conatins 6 tracks and is less than 1 min in length. Really dont know what to do now. I would take fcp2 off and go back to the old faster one but that means I cant capture 25f. ffs

  • Soundtrack Pro crashes make it unusable?

    First post....
Just purchased STP 1.1 after displaying impressively at NAB. Unfortunately, STP experiences consistent crashes in a variety of droplet actions that applied EQ and Noise effects, (even after preference trashing). Applies the effects, then crashes during the 'save' process. The first crash made the original file unusable.
The error message when activating the corrupted QT file:
"Quicktime does not undertand this file (-2048)."
Does anyone know what this means, and is there anyway of retrieving the corrupted file, given this error code (other than re-capture)?
Any help is greatly appreciated, for I'll have to rent DVCPRO50 deck to re-capture the lost file...
After reading other posts about these random crashes, I can't afford the risk of using this product until Apple gets it right.
    Too bad...great potential.
    regretfully

  • Integrate Soundtrack Pro script with Automator

I have a Soundtrack Pro script that I would like to somehow use with Automator. Right now I simply drop audio files onto the icon of this script and it does it's thing. I would like to set up a type of watch folder using folder actions so that when I put files into a folder, the script automatically runs and processes the file(s), then moves them to a "done" folder. I have tried playing around in Automator but got nowhere with it. I have no idea how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to make this work. This is the STP script (Applescript generated automatically from STP) that I use.

without fully understanding what's going on with the script I believe you can add a line after
    processFile(this_item)
    end if
tell application "finder" to move this_item to folder "My folder" of home
This will move it to the folder called "My folder" at teh top level of your home directory. to express a longer folder path you'd use something like this
tell application "finder" to move this_item to folder folder "1" of folder "My folder" of home
I hope you get the idea.

  • While creating a project in Garage Band my sample tracks were cut short then overwritten in soundtrack pro. Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?

While creating a project in Garage Band 09 my sample tracks were being cut short- I then discovered they had been overwritten in soundtrack pro.
Any ideas why? and how to get my tracks back?
I never opened soundtrack pro to edit the track just Garage band....the track just mysteriously saved as half the track.
I am running Lion and I upgraded my Garage band to '11 hoping it would resolve the issue...it didn't. Now I can't find that tracks at all.
The 2 songs having the issue are titled Exotic Yearning and Reunion.
I am in the process of reinstalling the audio content from my discs. I just don't want to run into this again.
Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

After spending some time reinstalling the soundtrack pro 3 content I opened the full track called Reunion.
It showed back up in Garage Band.*It was the full track and wasn't chopped off until I dragged it onto the project. Then it showed up chopped.
Then I closed Garaged band and opened soundtrack pro 3....The song was again chopped off at the 1:33min mark
    Very Frusterated...:(

  • Will Soundtrack Pro allow me to master multi-track audio CD?

Please help! I have been looking for the past 4 days for a multi-track audio editing software that will allow me to burn multiple tracks to a CD. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a 45 minute message and I want to fade a song in at the beginning, and another song fading out at the end. Then I want to place markers every 10 minutes, split into separate tracks, and burn the whole thing to CD from within that software (possibly I can fudge on this last one by exporting each individual track to iTunes, then making a playlist, but if Soundtrack Pro or some other program can do it all, then that is what I prefer!)
I tried Audacity, and it was close to what I wanted, but when I exported into iTunes the last 20 seconds of every song dropped audio! I have also tried the following and these are the errors/difficulties I encountered:
    • Amadeus II : No multi-track mixing capability
    • Cacophony: kept crashing, multiple error messages
    • Jasmine: unique tape-style interface, but again, no multi-track export
    • Sound Studio 3: good interface, easy marking, but no sound after export
    • Snd Sampler: only one sound can be open at a time
    • Deck LE: wouldn't even open one of my audio files!
So now my attention is on Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro. Both of these seem like they will have what I need, but I'm going to have to fork over a pretty penny. Which is better and will either do multi-track mixing to CD?
Thank you so much to anyone who will read through my whole ordeal and help me out with their musical expertise and sound audio advice!
    Sincerely,
    Paul

    Hello,
I thank you both for the help you've given, and I have obtained STP and really enjoy using it, but I am still disappointed that it will not allow me to master multiple tracks. For instance in Audacity, there is the export multiple command that splits one long song up according to the markers that you placed and then exports them as several different files. In STP, this same process is amazingly difficult, you have to take the razor tool, cut each section, drag it down to another track, then put a stop song marker after the cut section, then select each track and "export selected". (Do you know of an easier way?) Now for a $1200 dollar program that is just a little bit ridiculous, why cannot Apple just have a command to export by markers? Where can I go to request this feature be implemented?
Here's an example of what I am looking for, with features such as Redbook CD mastering (but this software is too buggy)

  • From FCP timeline...send to soundtrack pro audio file project is greyed out

The send to multi track is not greyed out but that's not what I need.
The stereo audio file is 48KHz and I have 7 tracks of audio in the sequence all of which are stereo except the VO track.
If I use "open in editor" to open a stereo file from the timeline soundtrack only imports one channel.
I'm trying to run these stero audio clips through STP using the waveform editor to quickly analyze and fix the "clicks and pops" also adding a low cut off filter to some of the clips to help eliminate some wind noise.
Seems the only way I can get it to work is to export each clip as an aiff file and then import it to STP, edit non destructively, save as a .stap file and then reimport that .stap file back into FCP........
Any ideas why the "send to STP audio file project" is greyed out? perhaps I have forgotten a preference setting somewhere?
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Hey, Dave. That can happen if you captured your files with two audio tracks instead of a single stereo track. The two channels will show up on two tracks, but they're not actually stereo in the quicktime file.
When you captured, did you click the "OO" button next to the audio channels to link them to stereo? You can look at the contents of the quicktime file with Quicktime Player and see if you've got one audio track with two channels assigned to "left" and "right". If you have some other configuration in the file, check out these old threads for workarounds, or recapture if that's an option.
