Why is the Address Book app slow to update my contacts?

When I try to import my Google contacts into my Mac Address Book via vCard (.vcf) format, Address Book app takes an eternity to finish updating (like a half hour or more), during which I cannot do anything else in the Address Book.
The last time I tried to do so, yesterday, my entire system became extremely slow and I had to restart the computer. BTW, I use Mac OS X v. 10.7.5 (Lion).
I also notice that searching for contacts within the Address Book is an extremely slow process. I begin to type a name and the program is very sluggish to respond or display anything, forcing me to type very slowly.
What can I do to resolve these issues so I can update and search for my contacts in the Address Book within reasonable amounts of time?

you have a 4G iPod. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • Controlling a sony ericson w810i phone from the address book app

I have synced up the w810 okay, Although I can't send or receive texts or answer the phone from the address book. The file sharing is fine though. Can anyone help?

How about importing the vcard file to a spreadsheet?

  • Can we use two icloud accounts in the address book app in Lion?

The answer is yes because we are doing it for months in our business. This way we can share our business address book between our 3 Mac and iphone and ipad and still have our private address books on all those devices without sharing them. It seems however that the app Address book cannot understand the situation. When I select my business card in my address book and say that it is "my business card" it appears the same on my colleagues' computer. they have then me instead of them as their business card and when they open their session on their computer I'm there! It seems that iCloud hasn't been thought for the purpose of sharing address books. Can we have a business icloud that doesn't stick to one persone? Or can we have several "me" in an icloud address book? Is there any other way to share parts of an address book without sharing it entirely? We'd like that it works like in ICal.

Currently, we don't have a Volume license. Basically what we need to achieve is a number of macs to have the same information particularly calendars, reminders, numbers file, and contact informations from one cloud. Without my manager's own icloud conflicting with his files or the public icloud.

  • Why is the original YouTube app not in update 6.1.3?

I recently updated and there is no YouTube, can someone please tell me why this is or how to get it back? Much appreciated.

The YouTube app is not included with iOS 6. Google offers their own app for free via the iTunes Store, now in an iPad version. There are also third-party alternatives, one of which may suit you better. Jasmine is one that a number of people are recommending. You can also use the mobile version of the YouTube site
    http://m.youtube.com
which you can save to your home screens as an icon.
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • How do I import the address book from my E72

I just got a iPhone 4 and have over 300 contacts from the phonebook to import from an E72. Can someone advise.
    Thx

The iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
You need get the contacts available in either Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 or in Windows Contacts by whichever method is supported for this with the E72 and Windows - software available for the device that can get the contacts in a supported address book app on your computer or by transferring the contacts from the device to supported address book application on your computer via Bluetooth.

  • Address Book app disappeared; how can I reinstall it?

Out of the blue, my Address Book app disappeared. The icon in the Dock has a question mark on it, and the application itself is no longer in my Applications folder, or anywhere on the drive. Even stranger, it's not in any of my Time Machine backups, even though it was working and present until yesterday.
Mind you, I'm not talking about the data. it's that the app itself is gone. Interestingly, my email still seems to act as if the Address Book contact information is still present. But if I select an address in an email "from" field, for example, and say "Open in Address Book," nothing happens.
Now here's an even weirder part. I also have a recent backup of my Apple Mail and Address Book using Email Backup Pro. After seeing that the Address Book app seems to have also disappeared from my Time Machine backups, I opened Email backup Pro and did a restore of my Address Book. The program reported that the Address Book was successfully restored, but nothing changed -- the Address Book app was still nowhere to be found. I've done this twice.
I also have my Address Book data on my iPod Touch (thankfully). Synching does nothing -- nothing changes on the iPod or on the hard disk, in terms of Address Book.
I'm baffled. Although I'd like to know what caused this, my more immediate concern is to get a functioning Address Book installed again. I booted from the Snow Leopard disc, but could see no option to install just the Address Book.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, John.

  • Address book app is missing; how to install?

    Hi,
After deinstalling the Office 2004 Test Drive software, my addressbook app is missing!
I looked in the apps folder, but its gone. Also i can't find it in the trash....
Now I want to install just the address book app again. How do I do this?
I could not find anything on the apple site or on other apple related sites.
Any help would be welcome !
    Best regards,
    Roeland van Delzen

You can use an application called Pacifist to grab it from the original install media.

  • No link to the Address Book application from Address Book Widget?

Before I could click the little red button, but with the new (10.4.4) widget, is there a way to launch the Address Book application?
    1.5 GHz PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't think there is a way to launch the Address Book app with the new 10.4.4 widget like we could before. I noticed that right away and went to the Mac OS X Feedback page to report it. If it bugs you as much as it bugs me you should report it too.
Here's the link just to make it easy:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
I like the new design ("front end") of the 10.4.4 Address Book widget, but I immediately missed the handy red button. I hope we see that feature reintroduced in the next update.

  • Address Book app missing after ML upgrade

Hi - After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I no longer have the Address Book app in my Applications folder.
It exists on the backup clone I made just before I upgraded. But that version won't run under Mountain Lion.
    2 Questions:
    1) What happened?
    2) How do I restore Address Book? Reinstall ML?
    Thanks....

Doh. I had set up a hot key to call up Address Book.
When it failed, I looked in the Applications Folder. No Address Book!
I wish all my computer issues were this easy to fix...thank you.

  • Fastest way to re-install address book app

My address book app is missing. The dash board still can reference my address book- and I have it on my .mac account- so all is not lost.
What is the fastest way to download the address book app back into my application folder?
    Thanks,
    Karen

Try using Pacifist to extract it from your computer's original disks; you may then want to rerun the Mac OS X 10.47 combo updater to ensure you have the current version of it.

  • Contact syncing and Groups in MacOS address book app

I have my iPhone set to only sync certain groups from my Address Book to the phone, not "all". When I add a new contact via the iPhone there's no way to designate which group it goes into so every now and then I have to do into the Address Book app and try to figure out which ones aren't in the correct group and fix them.
Is there any way I can assign contact groups via the iPhone?
    thanks,
    Bill

  • Address Book App Gone But Addresses Still Usable

I sync my Entourage with my apple addressbook so that all contacts are in Addressbook. I seldom ever open addressbook. Today I wanted to export some Vcards and went to the application folder and the addressbook was not there. My Entourage program is linked to an addressbook file in my user library and all the addresses appear to be visible through entourage.
So how do I get the address book app back? I have another addressbook on a second mac I have, can I just drag it over my network and put it in my apps file or will that write over the existing database?

Well I dragged the address book application from another computer on my network to my application file. All the addresses that Entourage is using can now be seen in the Addressbook I dragged over.

  • How do I import the address book from my iBookG4 to my new MacBook?

How do I import the address book from my iBookG4 to my new MacBook?

The Address Book app includes an export feature - at the Address Book menu bar go to File > Export and select Address Book Archive. Transfer the exported archive to your MacBook. At the Address Book menu bar on your MacBook, go to File > Import and navigate to the Address Book Archive that was exported from your iBook to select it.
