Why is the battery replacement so expensive?

I just bought my 15 GB ipod used a coupla weeks ago, and I thought I was getting a decent price. Now the battery appears to have died and I've found out that Apple used some really cheap, crappy batteries in the earlier ipod's and that this is a known issue. So, now I have to pay more for a replacement battery to Canada than I paid for the actual ipod? I wish I'd known this before buying the thing. I sure won't be recommending anyone else to buy them. Not when I have to pay for a substandard part just because it's not under it's one-year waranty anymore. Not very impressive start to my buying Apple products.

Just in case anyone is still following for some strange reason....
First, I wish that I had found that second url first. Their packs are better because they come with the tool that helps to prevent damage when opening the case. My case is pretty bent and scratched up now. I'm sure someone more experienced would have been graceful, but...I'd definitely recommend the other sets for inexperienced dorks like me.
But now it doesn't even matter what condition the case is in, cause the actual unit seems to be hooped. When I first replaced the battery the ipod would turn on and show the same uncharged battery icon, so I figured that it just needed to charge. I was just so happy that it still worked after opening it. But now aftr getting home from work, during which the ipod was charging, the thing won't even turn on anymore. And since I craked it myself, there's zero recourse.
I wish I had just spent the $93 to send it to Apple. Maybe then this wouldn't have happened or I would have received a refurbished ipod as a replacement. But why did it have to be so stinking complicated to begin with?
What a waste of money. And so depressing. I bought this to help with a crappy long-hour job.

I have a mid 2009 13'' MBP. I got the battery replaced in Apple store, It then stopped displaying the battery status LED.
After some months of use my MBP died outside USA. I got it checked in Apple verfied Service centre and was told that logic board was faulty.
After I came back to US I took my MBP to Apple store and was told that there is liquid damage in the system. My question is that if there was liquid damage why did my MBP stop displaying the battery status right after  the battery was changed secondly why didnt the apple verified Service centre tell me that there was liquid damage afterall I paid them the money for diagnosing the problem.
Is there a process i can followup on this problem

These are question you would need to ask that service center.

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one.  If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

  • HT1476 why does the battery usage percentage not available in ios5.1.1???

why does the battery usage percentage not available in ios5.1.1???
and why is clock not available on ipad????

Because that is a decision the Apple made.  You can get the battery percentage (within 5%)  by using a free app such as BatteryLife Lite, but it will not show the percentage on the top of your screen.

  • Why is the unlocked iPhone more expensive than the iPad?

I am using an old iPhone 3G on a prepaid network.  Love it.  Getting long in the tooth -- time to upgrade.  $650?!  The iPad is only $499 and way cooler (minus the phone part).  What gives, Apple?

I am asking myself the exact same question as @keithfromclarkson. Why is the iPhone so darn expensive. My only reason, is because Apple can. People are buying it like hotcakes. But it still bugs me, cost of production of iPhone is significantly less than that for iPad consider the following:
    (All are 16GB models)
Retail cost    Cost of BOM + Manufacturing
    iPhone          $649             $207
    iPad 3           $599             $306.15
    iPad 3 4G      $629             $358.30

Your warranty on the iPod has expired, so this is what Apple say.
"My iPod warranty has expired. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for iPods that are no longer within warranty. If your iPod, iPod with color display, U2 iPod, or iPod mini requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping.
If you own an iPod, and it requires service for any other issue, Apple will replace your iPod for the service fee listed below, plus $6.95 shipping and handling.
    iPod $249
iPod Nano & iPod Mini $189
    iPod shuffle (1 GB) $89
    iPod shuffle (512 MB) $59"
If it's just a battery replacement you require, there are cheaper options if you Google 'iPod mini batteries'.

  • Have 2 month old Touch 4th Gen why is the battery life so bad?

    Hi everyone,
I have a 2 month old 4th gen Touch and find that the battery life is very bad. My 2nd gen Touch still works and I've had that since it was released (and I understand why the battery isn't so good on that anymore). Ever since I've had this I have to charge it at least once a day, thought I had heard that the battery life on the 4th gen was never good to begin with but this does seem very frustrating. I admit that I tend to use my Touchto play games and use the Internet. I always turn off Wi-FI when not on the Internet and I turn off  push notifications and watch out for the brightness as well. I have IOS 5.1 but was wondering what other people think about the battery. I know I'm still under warranty but do not want to just get another touch if this will happen to any touch I would get as a replacement. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

How bad is "so bad?"  You need to determine the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
