Why is the cache on Safari so weak?
Is it just me or is the cache iPhone's safari not useful. I mean, is there cache at all? Its hard to tell because the only thing you can do with it is clear it. Where are the other settings for it? I don't see why I have to continually reload pages when I hit the back button or return to another "tab". I have all this flash memory sitting empty that Safari could be using to hold these web pages so I don't have to sit and wait 30 to 60 seconds every time I switch pages.
I see the cache switch under Safari's settings, but i don't see a way to set the max size of the cache. I'm thinking there must be a way to set a user specific size for the cache. Seems like an integral part of any browser. Is there a way to up the size of cache. I'll gladly sacrifice 500MB to 1GB of memory to cache cause it would greatly improve my web experience? I spend an awful lot of time browsing on my phone.
You could try using iCab Mobile to browse instead, which I think does a better job with this.

Why is the contents of Safari's downloads folder different than the actual folder that resides in my users folder?
Problem is if I delete that .plist I'll delete those downloads. I'm still able to launch those downloads from that location so that tells that file is probably not corrupted. I need to be able to located that folder and transfer the downloads from it before I do anything like this. So that begs the question, where is that folder located? When I do a folder search I'm taken to a Downloads folder, but it's not the one that is showing up from within Safari as it's contents are too different.

Empty Caches
1. Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
2. Quit Safari if open.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" and then "Caches".
Look for the folder 'com.apple.Safari"
Right click "com.apple.Safari" and select "Move to Trash"
Relaunch Safari. -

I try and be cautious with Web Browsing, and even though Mac's a almost immune to Viruses / Mal-ware threats etc., it's still gives Peace of Mind, to know you're able to 'Delete your Tracks' after browsing the WebIf you enable the Develop menu from Safari - Preferences - Advanced : there's a menu item Safari - Develop - 'Empty Caches' & accompanying shortcut.

If you are using Adobe to view PDF files, Apple is not responsible for third party software compatiblity. That's why it's necessary to remove the Adobe PDF Viewer plugin.

Why is the toolbar in safari now black with white text after upgrading ipad 2 to ios7?
My (retired) mum downloaded ios7 onto her ipad 2 yesterday but is now complaining that when she launchez Safari and uses google, the toolbar at the top of the screen is black with white text. She remembers something popping up during upgrade in the left of her screen about Privacy (?) which she clicked. Is there any way to return the tool/menu bar to its standard white with black text? Thanks.
Tap the blue + sign in the upper right part of the toolbar. That will open a new tab with Favorites on the screen, if she has favorites in Safari. In the lower left corner she will see the word Private. Tap that to return to normal viewing mode again.

Adobe does listen to users, but it listens to 10 users more frequently than 1 user. It listens to 1000 users more frequently than 10. Get everyone you know that works for lawyers to post the request in the Adobe wish form (where Adobe tabulates user requests).

I would like to protect my mac book pro against thieves. Then I was looking on the undercover software. Undercover gives the advice to enable the firmware password. But when I went to the apple information page in order to understand how the whole firmware protection works, I could read :
Apple Open Firmware Update 4.1.7 and later provide the groundwork for password protecting computers at a low level (Open Firmware Password Protection).
Why ''Low Level''?
Thx youFirst, your misunderstanding that term. In this case "low level" refers to relative to the OS and software on the computer. The firmware is, technically, software, but unlike the OS and applications that run from the hard drive, firmware is actually flashed onto volatile RAM chips on the motherboard. Firmware runs independently and does not need the OS to work - it is completely selfcontained and actually includes the initial bootloader code that literally bootstraps the hardware so the OS can even be read from the hard drive and loaded in memory.
So, password protecting the firmware is "low level" protection in that it does not reside on the boot drive and unlike software encryption and such things that only operate if the OS is loaded and running, an open firmware password is in effect before the boot drive is even initialized or any OS or software is loaded.
One thing to keep in mind though, is that if someone has physical access to the machine - can open it up and mess with the actual hardware, then even a firmware password can be bypassed. There is an old adage in IT - there is no security without physical security.
So it is not necessarily a bad thing to use a firmware password, but if, for example you had really sensitive data on your hard drive, you'd likely still want to encrypt that (for example, use disk utility to make an encrypted folder to keep such files in). -
What's the deal with Safari these days
I've been reading some other threads and it seems as though Safari is having some issues in terms of speed.
I too have been experiencing these problems, i've cleared out my cache(s) and still it's brutally slow. So, why all the sudden is Safari so bad? What can i do about it? I like safari better then firefox, but i'm not going to put up with this speed problem too much longer.
Also, is there anyway to import my bookmarks from Safari to Firefox?

After you have exported your "safari bookmarks.html" file to whatever folder you want, you SHOULD be able to open up firefox and follow those previous instructions I gave you.
One thing I didn't mention, that you might have already tried is, when you choose import, choose "from file". And it will allow you to choose which file on your harddrive to import.
Also, You can find your Firefox bookmarks under, "
Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/$#$#$#$.default/bookmarks.html
(If that means anything to you! I guess, there, you can see if your bookmarks indeed have been imported or not.

Safari and Skype keeps crashing after deleting cache in Safari
Hi everyone.
I have a strange problem, but it might not be strange for some of you. I deleted the cache in Safari (skype wasn't running). A little after that when I wanted to use skype it crashed after startup and still keeps doing that. Now safari does the same. Both programs also do CPU hogging and the rainbow spinning wheel comes up while making that little noise in the CPU. And then crash.
I read some posts here regarding to font problems but I haven't done anything to fonts just cleared cache in Safari.
I reinstalled skype, but didn't solve the problem. Updated it to the latest version, deleted db files from Library but the problem still exists. Please help.

How to empty cache in Safari 6?
In Safari 6, the "empty cache" command is missing from the Safari menu. Does anyone know how to empty the cache in Safari 6?
I have the development menu activated and cannot get caches to clear at all. No matter how many times I ask it to. Like it is completely being ignored. Developing web pages and need them to update when requested. Any suggestions?

Where is the cache in Safari? A webpage that I visit regularly does not load this morning. Safari reports a 403 error at that webpage. Isitdownnow.com reports that that webpage is up and recommends, inter alia, emptying the cache in Safari. The Help Center in Safari tells me to pull down the Safari menu to "Empty Safari." There is no such tool in my Safari menu.

I am running Safari Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11). Where's the cache?Safari menu - Reset Safari has an option to remove website data.
You can also use Safari - Preferences - Advanced to show the Develop menu. Once that's visible, there's an Empty Caches command there.
Also see Safari - Preferences - Privacy to remove cache/cookies etc for some or all sites. -
I am really confused as to what the cache is on my computer or where it is. I went to upload some photos and it said I need to maximize my cache and I don't know how to do it or why. It also said I can purge my folders; does that mean that my photos are all going to be deleted? Please Help!

The Cache is where Bridge keeps stuff it uses to display thumbnails and image information in a given folder, just so it doesn't have to draw the thumbnails and retrieve the image info every single time.
Yours must be set too low in Bridge preferences.
This screen shot shows the Preferences panel for CS4. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge. CS5 should be similar.
Sometimes, the cache can become corrupted. This is a common occurrence. Thus it becomes necessary to Purge the cache. This simply refreshes the Cache in Bridge, your images remain untouched when you purge the cache for a given folder.
You just have to wait while Bridge rebuilds its cache. Be patient. It's the same process as when you access a folder for the first time and Bridge builds the cache for the items in the folder for the first time.
I would recommend NOT using the global Purge Cache command in Bridge preferences. Use the Tools menu in bridge instead: Bridge > Tools > Cache > Purge Cache for folder xxxx.
Please consult the Help menu in Bridge for further information. That's what it's for.

No airdrop after upgrading to lion
I have a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (20 inch early 2008) iMac, ugraded to 4 Gb of memory. I upgraded to Lion which seems to be operating fine, except that Airdrop does not appear in my Finder window. Do I have to do something to turn it on? I also hav
