Why is the charger cord so short?

Besides cutting costs is there a logical reason behind a cord so short that I cannot set the phone on my desk which is directly next to the wall outlet.
Is there another option so I may use my iPhone at my desk or standing up while it is charging?
Thanks

As I stated above, it's an EXTENSION cord, not a longer dock cable (there is no longer dock cable available). You connect the male end of the USB extension cord to the AC adapter, and connect the male end of your 3' dock cable to the female end of the USB extension cord.
Or, just get an AC extension cord. Or a powered USB hub for your desk. Or, just unplug the iPhone - it has a battery. Or, use a Bluetooth headset (which is what I do) - then you can get up and walk around.
So many options...

  • Why is the charger so short?

I always wondered why the charger is so short... Can I buy a new longer one?

If it is genuine Apple it doesn't matter where you get it...only caveat is people having problems with third-party products so I always am carefull about what I buy.  As Meg said, an ordinary extension cord can be used to plug into, but I like the firm attachment of the replacement power cord.

  • I just got a new ipod 5 and when I plugged in the charging cord that came with it, it says it is not supported, and may not charge. It worked the first few times, but now it won't charge at all.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. The cable as well as the iPod, is covered by the warranty.

  • Charge cord too short for Lumia 900.

The charge cord for the Lumia 900 should be a little longer.  Even with the plugin right off the side of my bed the charge cord is not long enough for me to be able to read off of my Lumia 900 without needing to unplug my phone from the charger.  (To read news articles the phone has to be in the portrait orientation with the Windows home button at the bottom.  My Samsung Focus charge cord length was long enough.

Thanks Kosh and Android for the replies.
Basically the usb charge cord supplied by Nokia for my Lumia 900 is not long enough to be able to charge and use the phone at the same time. (My battery usually doesn't last a full day.) Nokia supplies a short cord compared to other manufacturers. I believe the charge cord supplied should be longer to equal what other brands supply.
I would buy a longer usb charge cord but Nokia does not offer one and I am concerned I may not find a good quality one and it may wear out the usb port on my phone prematurely. Plus I will be upgrading my phone soon.

  • Does the one year warranty that comes with my phone cover the charging cord ?

I have an iphone 4S and the charging cord that came with the phone has stopped working. I was wondering if the one year warranty that i have for my phone covers the charging cord ?

if the cable is damaged you will need any way another one, so call Apple and ask for replacement and in case they recieve the Cable and they find out that it's covered they will bill you and then you will see that the deposit is less expensive then to buy new Cable

  • HT201302 The USB cord needed to transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Windows XP has nothing to do with the charger cord, which appears to be an USB cable, but is not?

The USB cord needed to transfer photos from my iPhone 5 to Windows XP has nothing to do with the charging cord which appears to have an USB 'end', but apparantly is not, as it will not fit into any USB port on my PC?

An iPhone 5 comes with a single cable. It is a USB to Lightning connector cable that is used for charging, for syncing, and for transferring photos from the Camera Roll to your computer. There is no separate cable for charging.

  • Can i use the charge cord from my iPad Air on my iPhone 5S?

Can i use the charge cord that shipped with my iPad Air to charge my iPhone 5S?
    thanks.

You can also use the iPad charger (12W) to charge the iPhone (its charger is 5W) and it will charge the iPhone faster.

  • Why is the charging time on the new iPad so long? It is 3 times as long as iPad 2.

Why is the charging time on the new iPad so long? It is 3 times as long as iPad 2.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery, so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.

  • Macbook Pro Charger cord breaking/short despite my following the care process?

Despite my following the care process this is my 2nd 85 Watt Magsafe adapter to go bad and has a short in the cord after the adapter. I ensured I kept the cord uncluttered / not tangled up in open area / wrap accordingly (manual on how to care for magesafe adapter) when not in use. At work I keep the adapter on the desk. I have had my computer for 3 years without issue with the exception of having to purchase an $80.00 adapter cord a year ago. Now I have to purchase another within a year & half time. This isn't right.
Can some one provide insight on how to address this (replace without having to pay for another cord).
I bought it from best buy. I will try and locate my reciept.

You probably need to replace the two-prong attachment with the three-prong extension cord, which should have been included with the charging cable.  That adds length, as well as grounding the adapter, which is safer anyway.

  • My iPad air won't charge.  I have used both the charge cord that came with it, and a second that I bought at the Apple store.  I have used both the charger that came with the iPad, and others that are working with other iPads.  It charged yesterday.

My iPad Air will not charge.  I have used its original charge cord, and a second Apple lightning cord.  I have used the original charger and others that I have confirmed do work.  It charged yesterday, no problem.

Before going to the Apple store carefully examine the lightning port to make sure no fuzz or other foreign stuff has gotten in there. There are not that many things that can prevent an iPad from charging. You've tried a different cable, different charger and hopefully the reset suggested by Barry in the previous post. Check for debris and if the port is clear Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Why is the charger so expensive to replace

So first, the tablet experia s is a wonderful tablet  until you realize that because the charger is different than basically ANY OTHER tablet being sold, you'll be LUCKY to find a replacement charger under $40!
Now I wished I wouldn't have spent almost $450 for the tablet (2010) because now that I need to replace the charger, they want my right foot!

If it is genuine Apple it doesn't matter where you get it...only caveat is people having problems with third-party products so I always am carefull about what I buy.  As Meg said, an ordinary extension cord can be used to plug into, but I like the firm attachment of the replacement power cord.

  • Why is the charging cable not working on iPhone 6?

    Hi guys,
I just bought a new iPhone 6 and i'm very happy with the phone itself. Natural upgrade from my old iphone 5. But i kinda feel ripped off by the following: I bought an official apple 2m lightning charger at an official apple seller about 6 months ago for about 30 euro (don't know the exact price). Worked perfectly with my iphone 5 and allowed me to use my phone in a better way while lying in bed. But when i try to charge my iPhone 6 with that charger it says that the asseccory isn't supported by the phone. It really ****** me off. Why is an official apple charger not supported on the iPhone 6?

Does the charger-cable that came with the iPhone 6 work properly, does the extra charger work correctly with other devices?  If so, could be an issue with the extended cable matching the new iPhone.  You could take it to an Apple Store Genius Bar and have the techs check it to see why it won't work with the new iPhone.  Could be the resistance is too high for the new iPhone.
