Why is the first outgoing ring muffled?

I have a iPhone 4S. After updating to 5.0.1, outgoing calls have a muffled first ring.
What would cause this? It's just annyoing.

Are you talking about the ringing noise you hear when you are calling someone and waiting for them to pick up? That's a carrier generated sound. I'd contact your carrier.

    Why is the first frame black?  How can I fix this?  When I edit a video, which includes removing the first second, and render it using medium quality H.264, the first frame is black in QuickTime, and the first second or two of video is black in HTML5 Video on the web.  When I load it in PS CS6 Extended, the first frames do not appear black.  When I render in low quality I don't get black frames but HTML5 Video looks terrible in Internet Explorer.   Thanks.

  • Why is the first lookup() relatively slow?

    Hello hello,
    I am doing load testing on an LDAP server right now. The first call to lookup() is an order of magnitude slower that subsequent lookup() calls over the same Context instance. Why?
    I create a few instances of Context using Sun's InitialContext factory. I loop through a few lookup() requests over each of those Contexts. The first lookup takes 800 milliseconds, and all subsequent lookups take less than 20 milliseconds.
    I believe that this has nothing to do with socket operations because I don't start the lookup thread until after its Context has been created. I've also checked the BER buffers sent and received by the LDAP provider, and verified that the security authentication is complete before I start timing the lookup.
    Finally, I've also ensured that server-side caching does not cause subsequent requests to speed up.
    This might have something to do with the operation of the particular LDAP server I'm using, OpenLDAP.
    Has anybody else noticed similar behavior by a Context?

    Im also having a similar problem. It takes about 1.2 seconds to create the InitialDirContext object.
    DirContext ctx = new InitialDirContext(env); //takes about 1.2 sec
    Im using eDirectory (Novell Directory Service). Im using 'simple' authentication and Im suppling the ID and password in the environment variables.
    Did you find out anything?

  • Why does the first page of construction plans in pdf format print correctly, while the drawings on other pages shrink?

    Help! I am trying to print out construction drawings saved as a pdf to a wide format printer. The first page prints correctly, no matter what page I start on. The rest of the pages have the drawings way too small and off center. I am having to resort to printing each page separately. Why is this happening?

    Hi there ashp,
    Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • Why is the first address on a subnet reserved?

    Based on subnetting, the "all 1s" or last address in a subnet is the broadcast address.  Why is the "all 0s" or first address reserved?  About all I can find on the web is that "way back in time" it was also a broadcast address of some type.  Is there current programmatic reasons, or just convention to reserve the first address of a subnet?  Is there something I can see with a wireshark trace?  I happen to run into a situation recently where a host was in fact using the resevered first address both on net and across the router, apparently without issues.  Links to documentation appreciated.  Thanks.

    I'll try again - maybe this time I'll be helpful.
    Beginning with very early RFCs, all zeros was recommended to represent "this".  So an IP address with an all-zeros host bits, such as this Class C, 192.168.1.0 would mean "this network", 192.168.1.
    Hosts were not to be assigned all zeros as a host number so they wouldn't be confused with a (sub)network number.  I.e., if you use 192.168.1.0 as either a source or destination IP it could have special meaning (just as the all ones host is used for broadcasts).  As far as I can tell, little if anything used this special designation (except for some old Unix implementations that could use all zeros as the broadcast address).
    However, with RFC 3021, allowing for /31s for P2P links, the all zeros and all one host bits denote hosts.  This RFC does has some interesting things to say about how all zero host IPs should be treated:
    (h)  { , , 0 }
             Subnetwork number.  SHOULD NOT be used as a source address,
             except when the originator is one of the endpoints of a point-
             to-point link with a 31-bit mask.  For other types of links, a
             packet with such a destination SHOULD be silently discarded.
             If these packets are not silently discarded, they MUST be treated
             as IP broadcasts [RFC1812].
    (f)  { , , 0 }
             Subnetwork number.  SHOULD NOT be used as a source address,
             except when the originator is one of the endpoints of a point-
             to-point link with a 31-bit mask.  For other types of links, a
             packet with such a destination SHOULD be silently discarded.
             If these packets are not silently discarded, they MUST be
             treated as IP broadcasts.
          (2) SHOULD silently discard on receipt (i.e., do not even deliver
          to applications in the router) any packet addressed to 0.0.0.0 or
          { , 0 }.  If these packets are not silently
          discarded, they MUST be treated as IP broadcasts (see Section
          [5.3.5]).  There MAY be a configuration option to allow receipt of
          these packets.  This option SHOULD default to discarding them.
          In a point-to-point link with a 31-bit mask, a packet addressed to
          { , 0 } corresponds to one of the endpoints of
          such link, it MUST be treated as directed to the router on which
          the address is applied.
          (4) SHOULD NOT originate datagrams addressed to 0.0.0.0 or {
          , 0 }.  There MAY be a configuration option to
          allow generation of these packets (instead of using the relevant
          1s format broadcast).  This option SHOULD default to not
          generating them.
          In a point-to-point link with a 31-bit mask, the configuration of
          such a mask SHOULD allow for the generation of datagrams addressed
          to { , 0 }.
    With RFC 3021 (if I'm reading the above correctly), except for /31 P2P IPs, this shouldn't work, but the fact you've found it does, is likely due to most IP implementations not treating the all zeros host bits IP address as directed, above, but just as like another host IP.  Again, if nothing really has used this special case, it simplifies the IP implementation.
    In the above, technically, changing destination {, 0} as a MUST broadcast, should allow destination host to receive packet anyway.
    Rule 4 is also interesting, as it assumes only /31 hosts can send to all zero hosts.  This would be impossible to control if you don't know what the destination network-prefix is, and often only the destination truly knows.

  • Why is the first page indented?

    I've stripped out nearly all the code from this webpage
         http://billiantlysimple.com/
    but for some reason I've not yet been able to determine, the first page is indented on the left.
    You will notice that the header is indented about 10 pixels and the left margin is about 20 pixels, but I have no idea why.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?  Could it be a side effect of my using Horizontal Glider Magic 2?

    The header is nested within a div controlled by the following css rule:
    .p7HGM04 .p7HGM_panel_content {
         font-size: 13px;
         line-height: 1.5em;
         padding: 20px;
    This rule is in your p7hgm04.css stylesheet. It's near the top. The padding is pushing your heading to the right 20px. Change the padding declaration to the following:
    .p7HGM04 .p7HGM_panel_content {
         font-size: 13px;
         line-height: 1.5em;
        padding: 20px 0;

  • Why is the first tab in a window now hidden!!!???

    Using Firefox 7.0.1 w/ Mac OS 10.6.8 for a while now but suddenly I noticed that the first tab in a window gets hidden. Then on the tab bar I have only the + add-a-tab tab and then the 2nd added tab, and onward. I can only decipher what is the first tab by clicking the down arrow at the very far right-hand side of the tab bar and there it is. But if I click on it, all i get is the window but still NO tab.
    This becomes crucial when I'm trying to organize transfer tabs to a different window to clear space in the first window. Now that is simply impossible because there's no tab to grab and drag into another window Not!
    Hopefully there's a simple fix, but I have not been able to find an answer yet by googleing. Thanks.

    I think that it is a bug.<br />
    I've seen it myself too.<br />
    I see it all the time if I tear off a tab to open in a new window.<br />
    There is only the plus sign to open a new tab nad opening a new tab opens that tab to the right of that New Tab plus sign.<br />
    Closing the tab (Cmd+W) and restoring the tab (Shift+Cmd+T) fixes that problem for me.

  • When I export my Indesign document to an epub why is the first image smaller than the rest?

    All of the images are intended to be full page, and appear so in Indesign, however when I export the document to an epub, and view it on the iPad, the first image displays at about half the size of the other images.
    When creating the images in photoshop I ensured that they were all the same size and have not had this problem with any of the other epubs that I have made so far. Am I missing something? Any advice would be gratefully received! I work for a very small not-for-profit organisation that publishes books for people with learning disabilities and we are still feeling our way when it comes to producing ebooks!
    Thanks in advance,
    Hannah

    HI Hannah,
    May i know what are your cover page settings while exporting...?
    Is your document facing or non facing pages.
    Hope there are no size related settings done to the first image in Object Export Options under objects sub-menu.
    Because these are the prime settings that can affect it somehow.

  • Why is the first MIDI note always delayed?

    Hi all
    I'm having some trouble recording MIDI in Logic Pro X. When using virtual instruments (built-in Logic instruments) there is a latency issue with the first note. When recording or playing along, the first note I play has quite audible latency, but everything after that is fine, no latency. If the song is stopped and I am just playing the instrument it's fine, the problem only occurs when recording or playing back. If I am recording, the MIDI note is recorded in the correct place, it sounds fine in playback.
    Really not sure what's going on. I've been looking round on the interwebs, and it seems that others are having the same issue, but I couldn't find any answers that fixed it for me. Any help would be appreciated
    I am running Logic 10.0.7 on a MacBook Pro, using Mavericks.
    Thanks in advance

    This isn't just the first time after I select the track though, even if the track is in live mode it will still have this issue, if I record over and over on the same track, it happens every time. If I hit record, then use pitch bend or something like that during the count in it will be fine, but I have to do this every time I record, and it will create the new region early. I could do this every time I record, but I'm wondering if there's something else I can do to fix it more permanently.
    Thanks for the help

  • Why does the first page in a tab disappear?

    When I open a tab, the first page that is displayed disappears when I go to another page in that tab. The back arrow doesn't become active until I go to a third page. I can go back to the second page, but not the first one. Example: I open a new tab using the + button. I type a keyword in the search toolbar and perform the search. If I select one of the results of the search, I can't go back to the original list of results.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:

  • Why is the first character typed delayed and showing up as the 3rd or 4th character?

    For about 2-3 weeks now, I've been running across this problem. It shows up all over the OS. I can be typing something into Spotlight or Safari and a lot of other apps and the first initial character typed doesn't show itself until the 3rd or 4th letter typed. It is really getting annoying.
    Does anyone have a fix for this?

    In the meantime, plug your USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it will charge, but slowly.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Why is the First Item Moved by a Rule is Grayed Out

    Howdy,
    When rules are applied to move e-mails from my Inbox to some other folder the first item in any of those folders is either grayed out and not listed as new or has the Junk Mail Flag set even though Mail doesn't think it's junk mail (i.e., the thimbs down button is active rather than the thumbs up button to reset to not junk). This is with Mail in 10.8.1.

  • Why is the first value missing in the Chart when I use Property Nodes to clear my Charts programatically ?

    Hello everybody,
    I am using Property Nodes to clear my Charts right at the beginning of the program. The Property Nodes (History) are outside a While-loop.
    When I connect a Chart with the counter-variable "i" inside a While-loop, the first point I see in the Chart is (0,1) instead of (0,0). It looks like the Chart misses the first point !
    If the Chart is outside the While-loop the Chart displays all points.
    Can anyone please explain this behaviour ? How can I solve this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Cesar

    Make sure you have the error output from the property node connected to
    the loop border. Even if the error os not used in the loop, this will
    ensure that the property node clears the chart before the loop starts
    running.
    What is probably happening is the loop start running at the same time
    the chart is being cleared, so the first point is also being cleared.
