Why is the Hitachi default drive limited to SATA-150 ?!?! That is bogus.

I have had a HP TX2110us (aka tx2000) tablet for a few years.  I'm happy that I've suffered no overheating issues since RMA'ing it immediately after I purchased it.
One thing that really frustrates me though is the fact that the default Hitachi HTS543225L9A300 is capable of SATA-300 yet is limited to SATA-150 max transfer rates as reflected from the nForce SATA controller, both on the the default Vista OS and upgraded Windows 7.
That is just baffling for HP to force such limitations on consumers that are right to expect that hardware they purchase should perform to spec.  If this is, as I suspect, an underhanded strategy to force consumers into pricier purchases I find it duplicitous marketing at its worst.  The consumer should have every right to think that when they purchase a laptop that has a SATA-300 drive in it, it will be equipped with the proper SATA controller that would enable it to perform at its intended speed ... not a super sub-par SATA-150 transfer rate that was all the rage in 2004.  How could any ethical vendor justify such marketing deceit?
Just like I hate thinking about how HP limits your ability to upgrade the abysmal internal mini-pci wireless card with their BIOS white list limiting you only to the card model and vendor they chose to equip it with OEM, all seemingly in the name of the profitable exclusive contracts they work out with their vending parters at the expense of their own customers!  Are they truly only targeting the dumbed down customer that wouldn't know the difference between SATA-150 and SATA-300 that requires their purchase of HP service contracts or pricier "options" to do any basic upgrades?  If so, they appear to be doing a fantastic job.

You definitely have a point. The nForce 430 chipset should be capable of SATA II transfer speeds. There are many instances of HP notebooks having capabilities below the maximum possible for the hardware installed. It is common that memory bus speeds are downclocked, for example. I believe HP does this to limit warranty exposure. By detuning the hardware, it theroretically will last longer. And I am afraid you are right. HP can do this because the public does not know any better. Laptops sell largely because of how they look, not what they can do. But why would we expect the public to do any better job picking computers than electing politicians? There are parallels.

  • Early 2011 (March) MBP hard drive crashed a week ago, all data was lost. Why is the Hitachi hard drive so prone to have defective read/write heads?

Shouldn't Apple be better quality than this? I've used my old MBP from 2006 for 5 years with no problems. I've only had to back up data maybe once a year because it was so durable.
But this 2011 MBP had the hitachi 320gb SATA drive and one day it started clicking and everything froze. I immediately shut it down took it to the Apple Store, in which the genius bar guy said there was nothing they could do other than swap out the drive (which I did myself as I was not prepared to be charged $250+ for services and waste 2-3 weeks as my warranty was 1 month overdue). Even with AppleCare coverage, Apple will still not recover the data...
This is ridiculous! I strictly use the MBP for school/no gaming/haven't dropped it or moved it around rigorously/bought it instore (assuming it was handled properly). There is no reason for being such crap quality at $1300. I took it to a data recovery center and get this, the quote was $1700 as the read/write heads were defective and the surface of the disk was scratched, I could buy a new computer with that money! Were there no quality checks for these drives? I have PC laptops at home and none of them has had that problem! I'm planning to dispute this with Apple for losing years worth of valuable data.
Does anyone have the same problem? Are early 2011 MBPs prone to hard drive failures?

As Ogel stated drives fail. Unless you bought your 2011 Mac right when the early 2011 models came out you still should be under the one year warranty. They came out at the end of Febuary.
So that drive should be covered, dependinig on when you bought your Mac. And they offer a extended warranty which if you had purchased it would cover the drive failure, Hardware not data.
As far as the data, Apple includes the Time Machine program and there are 2, that I know of, cloning programs available to backup your data. If you did not use any of those programs you will ALWAYS LOSE YOUR DATA.
That is a fact of computers. They fail, end of story. Unless you have multiple copies of your files you are going to lose them.
    Good Luck.

  • Hello, I have a G5 PPC. I want to install a copy of Entourage on the second hard drive. Can I do that or will it create problems for the processor?

    Hi everyone
I had a very old intel iMac from late 2006 which was dying now dead. I just managed to copy the Entourage folder onto an external hard drive before the iMac gave up the ghost. But I could not open the Entourage copy on the G5 PPC. each time i tried to do so the PPC copy of Entourage would open instead.I have emails on the PPC copy and do not want to lose them. I was wondering if it would be possible to install another copy of Entourage on the second hard drive? I was hoping that by doing that I could access the information from the iMac which has been copied to an external hard drive.
Any help would be very very welcome.

I don't think MS lets you install Entourage outside of an active system folder. However, you can install a fresh copy of Entourage on the G5's hard drive (if you have Office 2008 or lower), then use Entrouge's Import command to move the data files from the old hard drive.
We're done this several times as we've upgraded either computers or Entourage.
However, I think that, before you act, you should also ask in Microsoft's user forums here:

They are excellent and often an employee of their Macintosh unit will assist in answering.

normally if anyone buys an apple product with a specific model (mac) , it comes with a built-in-apps that should be considered ( built in ) , Then why when the mac faces a mistake or an error that forces it to format , these apps don't show up ? etc : iMovie , garageband ...
considered it should be '' BUILT IN APPS '' ??
So does it really make sense that i should buy these apps again after i already payed an extra amount of money in the first place to get a model that includes them ??
after formatting my mac these apps should be there like its a whole new device that i opened !!!
I hope anyone with any useful information can share his thoughts or help with further steps .

  • Why is the new OS is limiting for apps?

One issue I'm finding is that because of the new OS, there are compatibility issues with many of the apps which are available for most other BB models .  I choose the BB for certain reasons, but one in particular was the app "Shazam".  Being a musician and music enthusiast, it is a very useful app.
All I'm getting from the support team at "Shazam" and Sprint is that this model is not compatible.
Looks like it's on you, Blackberry to resolve this.  Will this problem ever get fixed?  Considering how I just upgraded my phone, I'm seriously considering an exchange for one of the android phones.
    Sincerely,
    Alex

Actually, it's not on BlackBerry at all, it's on the app makers.
Just like when Microsoft introduces a new O/S, it's the software makers that have to update their software to be compatible with it.
App makers want their apps to be compatible with as many models as possible (for financial reasons) so they will update the apps when it makes financial sense i.e. enough people are using the new phones to make it worthwhile.
I've found that bank apps are typically slower to update, due to the security concerns involved.
The best thing to do is let the makers of Shazam know that you want an updated app then wait it out from there.

  • HT4306 Why does the ping icon show next to some songs that I purchase and prevent me from burning onto a CD for my own personal use?

Hi. I am having trouble burning songs that I have purchased from the itunes store onto a CD for my own personal use in my car. Why is the ping icon next to some of the songs I purchase,When I try to burn these songs I am told by a pop up that these songs can't be found, but they are in my itunes music list.I don't understand. Please advise me asap. hx Wendy159

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Why is the MacBook Pro Serial ATA transfer speed half that of the new iMac?

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 15.4 inch with a Seagate Momentus 160 GB, 7200 rpm, serial ATA, PRT hard drive. This hard drive has a serial ATA transfer speed rating of 3.0 Gigabits per second. The MBP logic board has an Intel 965 chip set that has a serial transfer speed rating of 3.0 Gigabits per second. I was at the Mac Store the other day and noticed that the new iMac 20 and 24 inch computers (that have the same intel 965 chip set) have an Intel ICH8-MAHCI speed rating of 3.0 Gigabits per second. My question is why does the MacBook and MacBook Pro's only have an Intel ICH8-M AHCI speed rating of 1.5 Gigabits per second? Attached is a copy of my Serial-ATA information:
    Intel ICH8-M AHCI:
    Vendor: Intel
    Product: ICH8-M AHCI

For several reason although the main one is that the vast majority of 2.5" drives have a 1.5Gbps interfacce. Drives with a 3Gbps interface in this size are rare where as they're very common in the 3.5" drive size which is used in the iMac.
Additionally you'll find that few drives do in fact make use of this larger bandwidth. For instance, the fastest 3.5" SATA drive one can buy for an iMac/Mac Pro up to 500GB is in fact a Western Digital Raptor 150GB which has an SATA I 1.5Gbps interface. So the interface bandwidth isn't everything. Yes there are faster drives than this now but they are in the 750GB size and up.

  • Why do the Apple default apps have so many issues?

With my upgrade from my trusty but dying iPhone 4s to a shiny new iPhone 6, the additional screen real estate makes me want to do a whole lot more. Things that I would previously never have dreamed of doing now approach the realm of the possible. With that, the limitations of Apple’s own apps also come to light. What follows is a wish list of sorts, stuff that I wish Apple would “get right” so that I don’t need to find separate workarounds.
    Music
Synchronization. As my music collection grew, sync issues and weird behavior went from being a once-in-a-product-lifetime anomaly to a regular occurrence. Sometimes, a significant portion of my music collection is missing on my iPhone. Other times, the album art is only partially there. Yet other times, I search for an album by name and see only a subset of tracks but then search by artist and all the tracks are there. Or the playlist label is there but some or all of the songs aren’t listed. It’s all perfect in iTunes, but not on my phone. I have disabled sync’ing over WiFi and now do so only over a wired connection to my iMac. I have changed USB ports. I have changed Lightning cables. Nothing seems to work.
Search. The app always displays search results in the same way, regardless of which context I’m in. So irrespective of whether I’m in the Artists view or the Album view, results are displayed first by Artist, then by Album, then by Song. If I’m in the Album view, I want it by Album first! If I’m in the Playlists view, I want to search the titles of my playlists. Simple things.
Alphabetical Search. From A, I scroll, scroll, scroll, and then it does P to # just beautifully. What happened to B to O?
Genres view. This is a mess. The same genre shows up multiple times and, inexplicably, under different letters of the alphabet. Did this even go through QA?
    Notes
Groups. I can only add a new group via my iMac’s desktop app (and possibly through a browser via iCloud.com, though I haven’t tried that). Why is this not possible in the iOS app?
Synchronization. I have a whole bunch of notes in my iMac’s Notes app that do not show up on my iPhone. They did once, and then poof, gone. They’re all visible on iCloud.com, though for some reason the embedded photos are not. This lack of reliability forces me to use Evernote, which really shouldn’t be necessary. Sync should just work.
    Contacts
Groups. I want to be able to create, edit and delete groups in the iOS app. I want to be able to add a new contact to a group without first having to Hide All Contacts, select the group I want, create an entry, flip over to Messages, then finally add the contact’s number from there to the new entry. Why is this so painful?
Related Names. I love this, but why isn’t it smart? For example, if I add someone’s husband who is already listed in my contacts, then why doesn’t the wife automatically show up in the entry of that husband?
    Calendar
Show All Notes. This does not, in fact, show all notes. It seems to cut off after a certain number of characters. If someone sets up a meeting invite in Outlook and there are oodles of intro text in the calendar entry’s body before the dial-in details are listed, then I cannot get to those details from my iPhone. I have to boot up my laptop and fire up Outlook, by which point I have missed half the meeting.
Inbox. Some stuff from Outlook/Exchange shows up here. Other stuff does not. If I take an action such as to accept or to decline a meeting, this doesn’t clean up the invite from my Mail Inbox as it would in Outlook. Frustrating.
No doubt, I have forgotten to list a few things. Apple, I know you pride yourself in the integration of hardware and software. Why, then, are the basics missing? Please get them sorted.

  • I just backed up my 1TB (mostly full) internal hard drive to an external 1TB Time Machine drive, and it says I'm fully backed up. Why is the Time Machine drive only half full?

I have a 1TB internal drive in my MacBook Pro (15", mid-2009, running Snow Leopard). A couple days ago I decided to format my unused 1TB external drive and use it for Time Machine, so I could wipe/format my internal drive for the Mavericks upgrade I've been putting off. Time Machine backed up the entire drive, and it appears to have successfully worked! Except that Finder shows 157 gigs free on my internal drive and 463 gigs free on the external... I'm hesitant to erase everything in case some stuff didn't get backed up and might disappear. A Google search tells me that Time Machine doesn't compress files at all... so where the heck did those 300 gigs go? Is there really 300 gigs of stuff on my internal drive that Time Machine just decided didn't need to be backed up?

By default Time Machine will not back up all files, i.e. temp file, cache, and system files. Also you can set Time Machine to exclude some folders/files, take a look at this link for more information.  http://pondini.org/TM/11.html

  • Why does the site manager create c:\ folders for files that don't belong to the site via FTP?

    Hello everyone,
now I've been using Dreamweaver since Ultradev 1.0 and I have just recently upgraded to CS 5.5 Web Edition. Before that I used CS3. I've allways been very satisfied with Macromedia and Adobe products until now
Now I don't know whats happened in the last few years but I am getting the impression that the quality of Dreamweaver used to be alot more stable.
Developing for more than half my life I understand that bugs are usual and that not everything can be cared for, but to be quite honest I also know that there are bugs that just should not happen when you ship a product.
On the other hand I do love some of the enhancements that have come with 5.5, for example the Javascript Framework integration and jQuery code hinting features but what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver simply sets out, every now and again, to creating a totally "dumb" folder structure on my ftp servers when I open a file from outside of the site - which I do very often to copy code I used in other projects.
It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because Dreamweaver created folders like this "c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\.... and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the currently open site.
Now I've looked for settings that would supress this behaviour but I could'nt find any.
Also, I really don't want to stop using the automatic upload function because it speeds up development time significantly.
Does anyone know how to work around this issue, or even better, does anyone know why this behaviour is happening and what it's purpose is?
    Thanks in advance.
    David

... what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver simply sets out, every now and again, to creating a totally "dumb" folder structure on my ftp servers when I open a file from outside of the site - which I do very often to copy code I used in other projects.
Dreamweaver doesn't "automatically upload" anything unless you have it set to on save. This is a bad practice if you aren't 100% sure of what you're doing. You may see it as a time saver, but if you have to go back two or three times and clean everything up, it isn't. Additionally, you select what is uploaded or not uploaded. If you choose to upload the entire root folder every time, then Dreamweaver will upload everything inside it... not automatically, but because you chose it.
As to the "dumb folder structure", when you define a site, YOU and YOU ALONE define the folder structure. If you are working in multiple sites at once (bad practice unless your are extremely meticulous about details) odds are you will sooner or later save a file from one site, with another site open in the Files Panel and Dreamweaver will save the file to the open site, not the one you opened it from (see why it's a bad practice to do this?).
It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because
    Dreamweaver created folders like this
    "c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\... .
and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the
    currently open site.
It reads like you have defined a testing server and are using it when  you put files. C:\localhost is a testing server protocol. If you are  testing files and then attempt to put files from the testing server  instead of the root folder, they will have the filepath from the testing  server and not from the root folder file structure. Again a bad  practice unless you are meticulous about details and remember to switch  back to the root folder from the testing server panel BEFORE you put  files.
