Why is the ITMS video quality getting worse?

Anyone else notice this? Besides being upscaled the quality seems worse than a previous epidsode of the same title. Example: Battlestar Galactica, Heroes

Yes! I had the same problem, w/ BSG. Wierd, both of those are NBC shows...

  • Video quality gets worse when adding title (DV to DVD)

I've inserted a single DV clip captured from my camcorder, added one title at the begging and shared it with iDVD (08), where I created (and rendered) a DVD from it. At the moment where the title is overlaying the original the picture gets worse. As soon as the title is gone, the video is back to normal. I know this is just bad rendering, but no matter which settings I choose in iDVD the result always looks the same. Any suggestions, or I should just live with it?
P.S. I wanted to use iMovie 08 but the shared video it creates looks just plain bad for the DVD.

    should just live with it?
Yes, this is a known problem for perfectionists like you and me and a few others:

  • Why is the fb video call doesnt work with macbook?

why is the fb video call doesnt work with macbook?

    Hi
Just to correct GerdW - the vis of a polymorphic vi do not have to have the same output.
Have a look at the vis I attached. I just pass a dbl to a polymorphic vi and get a dbl in one vi and a string in the other.
The real problem is that the vi has to be set to the necessary type. If there are different inputs you just can wire them to the polymorphic vi, but this does not work with the outputs, so you have to set the type.
    Hope this helps.

Does the track play correctly in Quicktime Player?  If it does then it is an iTunes issue.  If it doesn't then it is possible the file was not completely downloaded, or is corrupt.

What happens if you restart iTunes?
Look in the Recently Added playlist.  What happens if in the Get Info window you add the lettter (any letter actually) "X" to the end of the artist name, then remove it?
Right click on a problem file in the Recently Added playlist and then Show In Playlist > Music  Do you see it?
Delete the files from iTunes but do not let iTunes move them to the trash.  Now go to where they are located in Finder and add them again.  Does that work?
If you don't see it in Recently Added, make a new playlist window and drag the files from where iTunes put them to an empty playlist.  Do they show?
Please post a response.  I make various suggstions here at least once a day in response to this issue and I have no idea if they work for people.

  • It's time for the itms-video-store AUSTRIA!! make it real apple!

hey apple! it's time for the itms-video-store here in austria!!!!
we are waiting so long!! we can't wait any longer!!
when? when? when will it come true and we also can buy videos in itms??????

Apple can't sell the videos in Austria (or any other country) unless and until the owners of said videos will allow it, and to date they've not allowed Apple to sell most videos, or any TV shows, anywhere but in the US. No one here will have any idea when, or even if, that will ever happen. If you want to push someone, write to the US TV networks and record companies and express your interest to them directly.

  • HT1338 why does the only way to get on wireless interent is airport?

Why does the only way to get on wireless interent is airport?

Airport is the trade name Apple uses for WiFi.  The Mac built-in WiFi hardware is called Airport.  The Apple manufactured WiFi base station(s) router are called Airport Extreme and Airport Express (the Apple Time Capsule is also a WiFi base station/router).
A Mac can connet to other manufactures WiFi base stations.
You can also connect to a WiFi bridging device via ethernet and get WiFi access that way, although BDAqua's suggestion of a USB WiFi device might make more sense if it is a Mac laptop.
If you are NOT talking about WiFi, and perhaps talking about using the cell phone cellular network, then you can use Bluetooth to pair your Mac with a cell phone that has the ability to act as a cellular modem for your Mac, you can get a MiFi device that acts as a local WiFi base stations and connects to the Cellular network, and you can get cellular USB devices that can provide cellular connections for the Mac.

  • Why is the iDVD-burned CD of worse quality than the raw quicktime movie?

    Hello,
I have digitzed some old VHS movie to quicktime using a simple USB video grabber. The quicktime movie that I got is of good quality. Then I have imported to iMovie, made the editing, finalized the movie, and shared to iDVD. The encoding is set to best performance, the format is PAL, 4:3, and then I have burned the DVD. When I look at the DVD on our TV the dark parts are really awful - digitizing noise all over the place.
I then connected the computer directly to the TV and this is much better in quality . the background has no or little flicker, and the dark parts remain dark.
What am I doing wrong? I refuse to beleive that this is as good as it gets - commercial DVDs are much better and this is from a €%&/# VHS, so there should not be any real degradation?!?

-all the iDVD movies have TERRIBLE pixellation
Clearly when you look at a 720 x 576 DVD on a 42" LCD it will not look good unless you have good source footage AND a good encoder AND good upscaling from your player. iDVD does provide a good encoder but the other two may just not be up to the task.
I personally made DVDs that looked good on a 42" Sony TV. But they were encoded in Compressor and played on a Blu-Ray player with excellent upscaling.

How can I burn the mpeg-4 to a DVD without incurring the loss in quality? How do studios do this?
You can't and they don't. First of, studios don't start out with highly compressed videos and secondly they have much better software encoders (which cost $$$$) like CinemaCraft or hardware encoders.

There were some tips on round pixels vs square pixels. I will look into that. Do you need a special "DVD-digitizer" to save your old VHS movies??
You can get something that goes from VHS to DV (instead of MPEG-4) like the Canopus converters and then edit in either iMovie 6 or FCE (both are EOL). In any case, bear in mind that you start out from VHS.

  • AVI to DVD, is Toast the best video quality I can get?

I have a bunch of DIVX AVI's, DVD quality, to convert to DVD, I know it can be done in iMovie exported to iDVD. But that takes too long and I don't want a Menu. I've been using Toast on my MINI 1.25 but it takes forever to encode. I've seen encoding take up to, but not limited to 6hrs.
I am not as much worried about the time it takes as I usually do this as I go to bed, in the morning it's done. However, the picture quality is not as good as it was on my MAC, or the camera. I have all settings to best picture quality, taking the most time encoding.
What am I doing wrong if anything? Is toast the best I can get?
When I had a basement Windows Server, I used Roxio's Media Creator 7 and it had a DIVX AVI to DVD converter (also took hours to encode), but at least the picture quality was better if not the same as a DVD.
    PLEASE HELP.

    Hello shane3547,
Bumping threads is considered very rude.
divx AVI's are highly compressed files and will take as long to uncompress them as it would to have made the divx avi in the first place.
It takes an imac G5 about 6 hours to rip and compress a DVD into an mp4, xvid or divx file.
It takes my 2ghz dual core intel imac approx 50 mins to rip and compress a DVD.
Unfortunately until Roxio bring out a intel native version of Toast you wont see speeds like that converting divx to dvd.
As far as quality goes you wont gain any quality at converting divx back into DVD. divx is lossy compression.
In my opinion it a waste of time and effort converting divx to dvd, it is easier to purchase a DVD player that can play all formats of movies. You can get dvd divx players in the UK for as little as £30.

  • Why is the first video frame black?

Why is the first frame black?  How can I fix this?  When I edit a video, which includes removing the first second, and render it using medium quality H.264, the first frame is black in QuickTime, and the first second or two of video is black in HTML5 Video on the web.  When I load it in PS CS6 Extended, the first frames do not appear black.  When I render in low quality I don't get black frames but HTML5 Video looks terrible in Internet Explorer.   Thanks.

  • Is the music-video quality worth $1.99?

This is my time line: I downloaded the iPod commercial (w/ U2 in it). I bought music videos.
I have to confess that the video and sound quality for music videos are way too low for $1.99. I expected the quality JUST AS IN THE AD but it is only a very small fraction of it. The commercial might be misleading. It is good but it does not reflect the reality of the product. Gotta check on that.
I understand that there might be limitations with the iPod. That's acceptable but what if I want to watch these videos in the computer? Shouldn't the software down-sample the videos for the iPod while maintaining a full-quality copy for desktop viewing?
You can legally download most of the music videos at the same size for free from well known sources (that are even related to Apple). Yes, some of the have lower video and sound quality BUT these are neither intended for HD TV viewing?
My two dollars: Make them larger and better and make iTunes install a reduced video for the iPod. Otherwise is only worth like $0.49.

I too am very disappointed by video quality especially for the price. If it had said it was 320x240 on iTunes Music Store I wouldn't even have thought about buying it. They are definitely misleading most people to think it's full quality. I know it needs to be 320x240 for an iPod but I'm down loading it to my computer and would expect at least 640x480 come on!! You should have to compress it for the iPod the same as you would with CD's. That's why I don't buy music from iTunes Music Store because the quality is too low for my standards. Now it's the same reason I won't buy videos either. Well thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Wish I had found these posts prior to buying my first and last item from iTunes, a Jane's Addiction "Ocean Size" music video... : (

  • Problem with video, Quality gets all messed up

I'm burning a video thats about an hour and even minutes long, with about 3 short little extra videos on there that are about five minutes long each
I burned the DVD with best quality.
The Menus are fine, and two of the short videos are fine
but after like 5 minutes on the main video, it starts to get all distorted and chopy and all this green distortion comes up and its just a mess
I would burn it with best performance, but it says its to long for that
    I NEED HELP!!

QT and FCP show you different colors. You need to go into QT and enable FCP color compatibility. I believe it is in the SHOW MOVIE PROPERTIES, then the VIdeo track, then VISUAL SETTINGS. Somewhere in there.

  • Print quality gets worse, not better

    Here's the situation:
A few months back I managed to get infected with malware. Ran Malware Bytes, which has this bad habit of destroying things you need as well as those you don't; after I got rid of the virus, I had all these problems printing to my Deskjet 1320. In addition the frequent jams, color print quality just went bad; replaced the color cartridge, it was just as bad. Diagnostic was telling me printer cartridge was full, but the 1320 just kept printing as though it was empty.
OK; maybe the printer's gone bad, tho it was only a few years old. So, this week, replaced it with a Deskjet 1520, which came with a brand-new color cartridge.
Installed the software, got it all hooked up - and the color print quality is still bad. Cleaned the cartridges - and the print quality grew worse.
I've about had enough of this, thank you very much. But I am wondering - is it possible that this is a software issue rather than a hardware issue? Because it CANNOT be a hardware issue at this point, not with brand-new cartridges (have a new black as well), and a brand-new printer.
    Please advise.

my hp deskjet 1320 won't print black ink
