Since the upgrade to the latest version of iPhoto the photos no longer print in good quality. They appear crisp and in good focus on the monitor, then when they go to the page where they get edited and printed from, they go blurry. This is happening with photos hat I have previously printed out in large format ith no problems. I have looked at Preferencces but don't see anything about setting photo quality. Any ideas??
At that size all you're getting is about 100-120 dpi. 300 dpi is considered most desireable for prints. Do you have a 4x6 print of the same photo made before you upgraded to 9.5.1 and Mavericks to compare with?

Just wondering why I can't opt out of installing unwanted software when updating flash player?

- I turned on my computer and was faced with a regular looking flash player box that stated an update was available.

No warning whatsoever on the actual webpage. I wasn't aware that it would automatically install Mcafee without asking).
- I saved the update, then ran it (there were no checkboxes at all to opt out of Mcafee, it just installed it).
Not particularly happy at having unwanted software installed with no real warning, and no opt out available.

This has been an ongoing thing. There is an updater that blindly installs McAfee and another that installs Google Chrome and Toolbar. People have been complaining about it for years, and it doesn't change, and it won't change.
I'm not being condescending, and I'm not trying to lecture you on this. I'm just stating the facts. If there had been any intent on anyone's part to do something about it, posts like this wouldn't pop up here every month and a half, like clockwork.
It's the number one reason we post the FULL installer links. Because they have NOTHING IN THEM but the Flash Player plug-in. -

I've paid for Cocktail and am trying to download the new update to it. All the sources I find online say on the iMac that the installer cannot be opened, and the file is malware, "OSX/Spigot". I recently installed Intego security software since I was hacked. How do I get an update that works OK?

You have downloaded software from untrustworthy sites like CNET, Softonic, Download.com, Macupdate and the like : they often enclose crap in the installer: download only from trustworthy sites.
2. I recently installed Intego security software , these sort of tools are counterproductive, or crap.
ad 1: your mac has indeed been infected: download AdwareMedic from thesafemac.com (A very trustworthy site) and run it, it will solev the problem. Then uninstall Cocktail: rubbish and counterproductive.
ad 2: uninstall the Intego software.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Open Console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & next startup for clues. -
Ever since I did the lastest iPhoto update my picture albums have not correctly matched up with the corresponding photos. i.e. my wedding pictures now show up in my vacation album. The picture thumbnails are not showing me the correct photos.

iPhone 4I have iPhoto '11 with the lastest software update. I forgot what number it currently is. I am vigalant when it comes to the latest software updates. Yes, I did restore my iPhoto pictures from a backup since I founf out I could not share any of my pics using my apeture library since they were not the orginals. So, after the back-up of iPhoto all my pictures albums and the pics in the album do not match up, even the thumbnails. I find this quite annoying. All my albums were working and correctly before this update. As for apeture can I re-master all the photos there masters? so i can just do away with using iPhoto all together?

Why is the latest upgrade of Firefox preventing me from getting on the internet. I have tried to upgrade twice and both times I have gotten "Can not display this page please try again later" I have tried to open several different pages. Both times I had to restore my computer to previous settings to get on the internet.

I have looked at a few other questions on this topic and I have read that the app data is stored in the backup file but the apps themselves need to be synced back onto the ipad. Someome has mentioned right clicking on sync my ipad but I don't know where to find that to right click on!! Lol.
Again, I really appreciate your time and if by any chance you know where I can 'right click' I would really appreciate you letting me know as I can't get my ipad to sync with my pc at all, although it is being picked up in itunes and it has backed up to itunes okay. GGrrr. Maybe I have something wrong in the settings which is not making them compatible? -

The latest automatic update (in March) was accompanied by "You should update Adobe Flash Player right now". Having done this a few days ago a new Firefox update arrived (today 7. March) with the same "request". Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it? Firefox 3.6.15 and Adobe flash player 10.1.82.76 are currently installed.
Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 is not the latest version of Flash. '''r152''' is the latest.

Actually, it only looks like it takes up additional space. The file size shown is misleading. When you migrate an iPhoto library to Photos, both libraries will show the media files using hard links. The actual file content of the image files and videos is shared by hard links:

You will gain no free storage at all by deleting either the iPhoto Library or the Photos library. So keep both libraries until you are very sure, that Photos is working well on your Mac and your iPhoto library has been migrated correctly. Also, check, if you like the workflow in Photos. It is very different from iPhoto and some iPhoto features are not supported.
There will be no easy way back to iPhoto, if you delete your iPhoto library or the iPhoto application. Apple does not sell it any more. -
Third party accessories no longer supported... All my charging cables were great before the latest ios update, why?
I don't know which accessories you have, but the 'better' ones are usually made with Apple's cooperation. Stuff from Targus, Kensington, Belkin and the like.
Ive used a belkin and Onn lightning cable with my iPod with no error messages.
You SHOULD be able to keep using the accessories and just ignore the warning. But I say should because that may not be the case with everything.
The issue stems from various incidents involving shoddy third party accessories malfunctioning - sometimes quite spectacularly. But the headlines never read 'cheap knock off cable shorted out' they read 'iphone burst into flames' -
My Hp printer/scanner C5280 used to work fine with my iMac with OS 10.6 but lately after doing the scan it doesn't seem to finish by putting the scan in either iPhoto or in pictures. I have all the latest sofware updates for both devices. The scanner does the "preview" scan right away and the copier works fine. Is there some setting I am overlooking?
Try using Image Capture, you will find it in your Applications folder. In either IC or the method you are using you can tell the application to scan to a destination. It will look similar to:
If you still have trouble give AppleCare a call or visit your local Apple Store Genius and they can walk you through it. Your problem may be the at you are not defining anything in the preview to be scanned, you do this by dragging the mouse over the area you want scanned and it will draw a box around it. Here is a screen shot that show's that.
