Why is the Plugin Check suddenly starting up automatically when I open Firefox, and how do I stop it?

Instead of Firefox opening to my homepage, as it has been doing for several years now, it opens to a Plugin Check screen. I don't know why this started, and I haven't found a way to prevent this from happening. What can I do?

That is a bug with blocklisting plugins that has been fixed.<br />
You can correct this issue by forcing the file blocklist.xml to update or wait until Firefox updates the file.<br />
That update will remove the severity="0" flags in the file that cause the problem.

== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== I think when a I updated or downloaded a newer version of FireFox at Firefox's suggestion.

Hmm that does sound a bit strange - I use a system quite similar to yours (XP, FF 3.6.3), and don't see this behaviour.
I would recommend trying to start Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode (make sure you close all running Firefox instances first), and see if this problem persists.
If not, it could be some add-on causing this behaviour - restart Firefox in Safe Mode, disable all add-ons, and enable them one by one to find the guilty one.
If it still happens in Firefox Safe Mode, some other program (or something in Windows itself) most likely is the cause. We may be able to help with this too, so let us know what works and provide as much additional information as possible to let us help you solve this.
Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help you better, plus enables us to better help other users with similar issues.

• Why is the Plugin Check function inaccurate?

If I have updated the plugins according to what is required or stated by the Plugin Check, the plugins still appear as 'outdated' (yellow or red depending on severity) when they're not?
I don't know what to do as all this does is to contradict everything by making me feel I'm vulnerable to malware attack.
I think there's some disparity between the version I originally had (in this case Adobe Flash and Quicktime Player) which I updated, and the very latest version I installed which is perhaps even higher than what is registered with the Plugin Check itself. In this case the Plugin Check databases would need to be updated again.
Please can you establish what I may be doing wrong here.
Thanks.

• Why does "My Yahoo" open in a new tab [only after a restart of the system] when I open Firefox and my options are set to restore tabs?

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== recently...I usually only shut down for reboots.

If you use Clear Recent History in Firefox 3.5 and later or Clear Private Data in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

• When i open firefox and it brings me to my homepage, the page adress isnt in the adress bar.

EX: my homepage is Youtube.com and when i open firefox, it brings me to youtube but the adress bar says, "Go to a website", instead of the link of the page im on. it is VERY annoying and i really need the link because i actually do use it a lot!

You just need to update the setting under the Startup to not restore your previous session. Go to Tools - > Options - > General Tab. At the top it says 'When Firefox starts:' with a dropdown. Just select Show my homepage.

• I keep receiving FireFox Plugin update notice everytime I open Firefox, when I update, it does not acknowledge it and keeps loading me the update notice everytime I open Firefox. HOW DO I STOP THIS?

I'm having no problems with my plugins, I'm having problems with the NOTICE of plugin updates opening before my desired webpage does. How do I stop this?

If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Do a clean (re-)install:
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

• Why does the screen change to a new one when i open itunes 10.7.1  can i change this back to how it was originaly?

when i open my itunes up it slides over to a new screen, it used to just pop up, im not sure what happened to cause this, but can i change it back to how it originally was?

Sounds like you have iTunes set as a full screen app - to view normally in the iTunes windows go to the very top right of your screen - the title bar will appear with a small blue box in the corner with 2 arrows in it - click on this and iTunes should return to how it was before.

• Why does the BLOCK REPORTED WEB FORGERIES become disabled when I close Firefox?

I will enable the BLOCK REPORTED WEB FORGERIES in the control panel, however if close and then open Firefox it will be disabled.

At the moment I use Norton 360. I have Norton on other machines and it does not turn off the Block Attack Sites nor Block Reported Web Forgeries. My first thought is that I have been breached and Malicious Code is the culprit.

• After rebooting or starting my computer, I'll open Firefox and it will close itself (no crash report).

When I open it again it works fine until I restart the computer again, and then it does the same thing. Any ideas why or what I should do to fix it?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
#Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.
Thanks in advance for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Firefox crashes article.
Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.

• Why do I get multiple security machine dialog boxes when I open Firefox, Windows and Mac?

Whenever I open Firefox, I am asked for my security machine password multiple times. Seems to be connected to how many tabs open (on Windows) and is always three (3) on Mac. I have Sxipper.

Strange, since Google is unlikely to do that. Maybe it was an bundled installer masquerading as the official one?
To start your clean-up efforts, please check your home page setting. Do you get the 3 tabs when you press Command+n to launch a new window? If so, the extra URLs may be tacked on to your home page setting in the Preferences dialog. These articles describe where to find that. Note that it can be difficult to see the full details of that field due to limited space available, so often it is easier to delete it all and paste in just the URL you want.
* Startup, home page and download settings
* How to set the home page
Next, please check your extensions, as they can override your settings. I suggest disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Command+Shift+a
* Tools menu > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. (Or if obviously bad, remove.)
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?

• When I open Firefox and try to open a new tab I get an error window which says "Firefox can't find the file at /C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/9Úº%01˜%1Cm:ÙËÅȵ֯AÐóqÖ¬7F±éS¿W5." Is this a virus?

I get multiple windows opening with this message. Sometimes as many as 8 or more. I first tried clearing my cache then I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but the issue persists.
I am using Trend Micro anti virus software with their latest updates and have run a complete scan. The program tells me I do not have a virus but I suspect I do. Can anyone give me any input on this?
Thanks.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.<br />
