Why is the podcast app asking me to stream an already downloaded app?

Hi,
I have a selection of downloaded podcasts which I subscribe to on the Podcast app on iOS running on an iPhone 4S with iOS 6.13. I have listened to the majority of the podcasts without any problems, but on the last few it is asking me to turn on mobile data to stream the podcasts even though they have already been downloaded.
I have deleted them and downloaded them again, but the same problem occurs. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?
Thanks

They appear to be corrupt. Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • Why is the Podcasts app deleting podcasts? I want to keep them?

    iOS7
    4Gs (still kickin')
Latest version of Podcasts app from Apple
For some reason the Podcasts app is deleting episodes from my phone.  I have no idea why.
For all of my podcast subscriptions I have "Episodes to Keep" set to "All", because I want to delete them when I am done with them.
I'll be driving to work, start listening to a downloaded episode, pause it for the drive home, and when the time comes, it's gone!
    Why?
I'll re-download the episode and it usually picks up where I left off, but it is a total pain. I haven't even synced with iTunes since my computer is at home.
Dear Apple, is this a bug or a feature?
    Dear support community...please help me!

    Jennifer,
Check to make sure that the Deleting Apps restriction has not been enabled  To check, head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions.
If that is the case, remove the restriction, then delete the App.  Lastly, make sure the App is not set up to sync to the iPod via the iPod's Application tab in iTunes.

  • Why is the Podcasts App so buggy???

I listen to podcasts almost everyday and have been using this app ever since it was first released.
It's basically a dog's breakfast. The main problems are (1) bugs, and (2) lack of functionality.
    Bugs:
    1. The app will start automatically anytime an alarm goes of: someone calls you, after you hang up the last podcast you were listening to starts playing. Same thing with alarms, and even just testing ring tones. ***?
    2. It frequently won't download podcasts. It is very temperamental: it will allow some podcasts to download, others not.
    3. It crashes randomly in the middle of podcasts. This is what motivated me to write this review today. actually this and the fact that problem 2 took me about 2 days and 5 attempts to download the podcast that then crashed. Was this software written by children?
    Lack of basic functionality:
    1. No playlists or anyway to star or prioritize podcasts you want to listen to.
    2. It is basically impossible to browse the titles of individual podcasts because the names are longer than the screen space.
Points 1 + 2 together are a real pain if you, like me, have a collection of one set of podcasts that is over 500 episodes you want to read over and choose from... You can't read the titles and if you take the time to read and select your favorites you can't save them.
Seriously, this app should be up there with Apple disasters like Apple Maps.

I just replaced my prior iPhone 3G by a brand new iPhone 5 and installed this new Podcast app, as podcast content dif not appear in "music" any more.
Although I enjoy having direct sync of podcasts on the iPhone over Wifi (instead of having to plug it to my iTunes), I am not fully satisfied as well:
    - for some podcasts, it seems to be working fine, event though some episodes appear much later on my iPhone as on iTunes
    - for some others, it used to work fine at the start, but I do not get any of the most recent episodes anymore (they do not appear at all)
    - for some others, downloading seems to always fail but streaming is OK
    - for some others, I can see the episodes but cannot donwload nor stream them on my iPhone.
In the meantime, all these podcasts perfectly work on a standard iTunes (on a Mac or a PC).
I tried to unscribe an subscribe again but it didi not fix anything. Perhaps shall I try to uninstall and reinstall the application.
The erratic sync feature is definitly the most critical issue to fix by Apple.
Not supporting long labels & playlists is more a kind of "nice to have", although I agree these would be very useful.
Concern iMap, I did not have any major concern up to now with it (I do not use it so often, but it worked well at each occasion).

  • Why is the podcast for our show only streaming/downloading half of episode?

Our podcasts on occasion have been having an issue when uploading/linking to the store.  On a weekly basis we upload video and audio podcasts through the linking of our RSS feed (Feedburner) and also utilizing the Blubrry Powerpress plugin.  On our site and server both the video and audio files are in their entirety, but upon being posted in the iTunes store they are sometimes being presented at a shortened length.  This morning our video and audio were fine on our site, but on the iTunes store the audio stream was cut at 30 minutes (the podcast should be 1hr 15min).  Somehow though, the video stream on iTunes is up in its entirety without issue.
We would love to stop this from happening! Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Why do manually added mp3s in the Podcasts app all show up in the same folder?

    Let me explain!
I like to download lectures and talks and audio books from other sources than iTunes.
I like to add these mp3 files to iTunes, change the Media type of them from Music to Podcast, and transfer them to my iPod Touch. This is so I will more easily know which ones have been listened to and can be removed.
This worked (and works) well in the Music app. Everything was separated into folders based on what album name I had manually assigned to the ID3 tags of the files.
But in the Podcast app, all of these files are now lumped into one folder.
I currently have eight un-listened-to episodes of Philip K. Dick's Valis on my iPod Touch. But the folder shows a count of 106 unheard episodes in relation to this audio book, because it lumps all of my other manually added podcast media tracks into the same folder.
    Why is this?
Why does the Podcasts app refuse to let me separate manually added files into individual folders based on album information?
Had the My Stations feature let me populate its playlists in a more rational manner, and also allowed me to manually change the running order of the tracks (something which only seems to be possible in the On-The-Go playlist), I would not think that this omission was such an annoyance.
I have been searching for months for mentions of this problem, but I have not seen a single one, and so I have finally decided to make my own thread.
Let me know if the nature of my problem remains unclear.
    Joakim

    That doesn't do anything.
When I plug my phone in and attempt to sync it with iTunes and click on "Steven's iPhone" under "Devices" the display to the right just says "loading..." and it stays like that for hours. Nothing happens.
As far as I can tell, there is literally no way for me to delete the photos from my iPhone and I therefore, cannot upgrade to the newest software, download new apps, etc.

    Greetings Heather,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing an error with the Podcasts app. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

  • Why are you ignoring customer complaints about the Podcasts app?

This app is horrible. All the iTunes reviews list the same problems. Either episodes won't download, they won't play, or they won't sync. I know it's a free app, but we all paid for our iPhones or iPads. I've seen no answers and no helpful updates. Why haven't you done anything to fix it? I'll probably be getting a new phone soon, and I'm seriously considering switching to Droid or Samsung. This just isn't the kind of service I used to see from Apple.

What I don't get is... if they don't "fix" the Podcasts app, then they must be happy with it the way it is, and think that it works correctly.  But the number of posts to the contrary goes up every day.  So why don't they put out some instructions for people, so that everyone can stop being so frustrated with it?  If it "works" the way it is, then tell people how to control the syncing with iTunes and delete podcasts and avoid the Cloud and whatever else.
But I'd much rather they just fix it.

  • Why does Apple keep breaking the podcast app?

Why does Apple keep breaking the podcast app?

Here are my issues, maybe you can help... And yes "breaking" and "nightmare" are accurate descriptions of this update...
    1. Syncing is now impossible without WiFi or a Cellular connection. I've tried your guide in the other thread, but it didn't help.
When I sync podcasts with iTunes, they DO NOT SHOW UP in the app unless I connect my iPhone 5S to WiFi or Cellular. As soon as I connect it to something, new episodes that I manually synced finally show up and can be played.
    2. Arranging the podcasts in any order is now pointless. Any sort of wireless connection will reset my order to a randomized one. It's not even "podcasts with the newest episodes on top", it's just random.
    3. Apple doesn't seem to allow any other podcast app to use the manual sync in iTunes. Am I wrong about that? I looked at countless paid apps and they all have their own cloud or system to only deliver episodes wirelessly...
    4. And that constant prompt about Cellular data access could drive anyone insane!
I have never been this frustrated with an Apple product in my life...

  • Why do i have to use the podcast app in iOS6 since it doesn't work correctly

I upgraded to iOS 6 and now you cant download podcasts through the itunes app... Now you have to download the podcast app and use that instead, but that wont work correctly for me... keeps hanging and not downloading the actual podcast. Does anyone know a way to get podcasts in iOS 6 without using this app?

Separating out a podcast app is a step backward. From a marketing perspective, podcasts are seen as something independent from music and television. But from a functionality POV, it just makes it harder to manage your audio on your iPhone.
Consumer Technology's objective has always been to make one device do more things, i.e. combine a phone into a music player. This step is akin to taking the ability to text and spinning it off onto a gadget you attach to your key-ring.
It's still there, but annoying to dig out when you want to use it.

  • My podcast won't appear on the Podcast app. Why?

My podcast can be found via iTunes and via browser, but it suddenly stopped appearing altogether on the Podcast app.
In comparions to a previous version I have of the feed, everything seems in order. What on earth could have happened to the feed that it would appear on every other outlet except for the Podcast app?

Now that you've cleared that error it's exposed another in the 'link', 'enclosure' and 'guid' tags in the same episode:
    <link>http://terry-torres.com/podcastgen/media/History%20Lessons%20Mini%20-%20Lewis%20 &%20Clark.m4a</link>
    <enclosure url="http://terry-torres.com/podcastgen/media/History%20Lessons%20Mini%20-%20Lewis%20 &%20Clark.m4a" type="audio/x-m4a"/>
    <guid>http://terry-torres.com/podcastgen/media/History%20Lessons%20Mini%20-%20Lewis%20 &%20Clark.m4a</guid>
Again, the ampersand messes things up. You can't have this in the URL - and you shouldn't have spaces in the filename, though the feed has substituted the code %20 so it isn't actually a problem. The ampersand, however is: in this case the &amp; code doesn't work but you can substitute the code %26 so that the URL reads
    http://terry-torres.com/podcastgen/media/History%20Lessons%20Mini%20-%20Lewis%20 %26%20Clark.m4a
I would advise avoiding both spaces and odd characters (including the ampersand) in URLs.
There seem to be no further instances of this - elsewhere you have used the &amp; code - though as a matter of course you should check your feed by subscribing in iTunes so you will find out quickly if it's not working.

  • Why does play stop when I close the Podcasts app - IOS 6

Whenever I leave the Podcasts app to answer an email, text, open Safari, etc., the podcast stops playing.  This effectively stops me from using any other application on my phone, unless I want to also stop listening to the podcast.  It won't continue playing in the background like the Music app did.  Of course, this is an IOS 6 issue.
    Ridiculous!!!
    Am I missing something here?

I had the same problem the first night and my head almost exploded as playing podcasts is what my iphone is doing 95% of the time. I was also experiencing a lack of control not being able to jump back or ahead which was maddening. However, the next morning, after syncing the phone with my iTunes (on a MacBook Pro) all of this functionality was there, including the ability to have the podcasts continue when exiting the app and the ability to control them with an inline remote on my earbuds.
Hopefully, this problem has already resolved itself for you. Unfortunately, it is my understanding that there still is no option for playlists at this time.

  • Why is the podcast section slow?

I know this is probably not a new thread, but I'm getting sick and tired of continued releases of iTunes 11 being released for Windows and nothing being done to actually fix the Podcast section of the program. Whether it's related to the podcast art or not, I'm not sure, but regardless, loading the section and each subsequent click takes between 3 and 10 seconds each time. Add to that the lack of alphabetised listing, fewer settings for podcasts in general, and I wish I didn't have to be so reliant upon iTunes for my podcasting needs.
Come on Apple, please provide a fix soon?

Podcasts are not "stored" in the iTunes Store, so - and I'm guessing here...
when a song is purchased in the iTunes Store, that download comes from the store itself and it's reasonable to assume that the list of songs is held by Apple in the store. The store will have an up-to-date list of the songs available, ready to give you at any time.
but since Podcasts are downloaded directly to your iTunes Library from the Podcast producer's host site (and not from the store), it's reasonable to assume that the iTunes Store obtains a list of the Podcast episodes only when you ask for it. That's how it's kept up-to-date. So the store has to "look outside" the store (to another computer, located who-knows-where) at the time you ask for the list of contents. That takes time, albeit a very short time.
So this almost certainly why it takes iTunes a while to display the list of Podcasts when you are searching in-store.
As for the artwork for Podcasts; again, this is the responsiblity of the Podcaster, not the iTunes Store. Artwork for commercially produced music albums is an established and accepted fact. The musicians and companies that produce the music are well versed in it. But Podcasts are completely controlled by the originator of the Podcast and are simply listed by the Store. Podcasts are often produced by individuals, or simply by people who either don't see the need for artwork, or don't have the resources to work out how to put the artwork on to their episodes. It's not that easy, believe it or not.
Apple/the iTunes Store does not "trade" the Podcasts (it doesn't "sell" them), and the store has almost no control over them.
Look on the bright side: Apple (The iTunes Store) provides you with a list of Podcasts and gives you a facility to download them into your iTunes Library and onto your iPod etc, for absolutely no cost to you. iTunes, the programme also does a fair bit of work to manage Podcasts, such as:
    marking them as Skip when shuffling so thay don't play while listening to music in shuffle mode (a podcast is simply another audio file, just like your music Library);
    organising them in your iTunes Library (well, in the List view, they are orgainsed. No idea what Apple had in mind with the other views!);
    marks a Podcast episode as Remember playback position - incredibly useful for long speech Podcasts;
has a visual indicator to remind you when you have part-listened to a Podcast episode or fully heard it. This feature is also available on some iPods.
And before anyone says it, no, I do not think iTunes is perfect, particularly in Podcasts.
Downloaded episodes and other available (but not yet downloaded) episodes are now indistinguishable from one another. Mad!
Total unplayed episodes count now includes episodes that are not downloaded into my Library. Utter madness!
My Stations. I just don't get it!
The Podcasts App for iDevices. Well, I think my thoughts on that are best left unsaid. (The last time I looked, it still wasn't possible to create a Playlist of Podcast episodes.)

  • How can I create a playlist that syncs with my ipod touch 5 that plays both podcasts and music? Before updating to itunes 11 I was able to do it and now it seems that the power is gone. (I do not have the podcast app on my ipod touch 5)

When apple first introduced the podcast app for my iphone I discovered that installing it took away the option to have a playlist (smart playlist or regular) that mixed music, audiobooks and podcasts. I therefore quickly uninstalled it and was happy to have my iOS devices happily mixing music and podcasts.
With the push to itunes 11.1 and iOS 7 on my ipod Touch and ipad mini I no longer have mixed playlists. I do see (according to itunes) that the podcasts are copied to my devices but there doesn't seem any way to play them. Nor do my mixed format playlists contain them.
When combined with the change to the podcast tab in itunes that shows all available by default and doesn't seem to offer any way to Turn it OFF so I can easily see what new unlistened to podcasts exist it seems that the way I got used to using my itunes since my ipod nano first generation has been eliminated. I haven't read why so if someone could point me to their logic on how come I would want the changes they keep trying to force on me I would at least understand their motives.
If no one has a better fix I have discovered that I can declare the podcasts to be audiobooks and get them to play that way. One downside to that approach is that it doesn't clear them out of the podcast folder thanks to the change to the iCloud friendly format or whatever they were hoping for.

And what is the wording of the error message?
