Why is the power light blinking?

I've had some issues connecting to the internet.  I just replaced the cable modem and have it all set up.  I still don't have connectivity through the router.  I'm able to connet the computer directly to the modem and it works just fine.  But, I noticed that the router power light keeps blinking.  What might this be telling me?  Is the router trashed?

Hello salin, the reason why you can't get online on your router because the router is not in good condition. The power light of your router should be solid at all times. There could be a problem with your router's firmware because the power is blinking. It can still be solve but you need to diagnose it first if you can still fix it because maybe it went bad already. To help you diagnose the router then try to follow the steps.
> connect PC to Modem and download your router's firmware here.
> disconnect PC from Modem and connect PC directly to the Router in port 1 (don't connect the Modem yet)
> press and hold the reset button of the router firmly for 60sec while router is turn on and just release it after
> unplug the power cord of the router and wait for another 60sec before plugging it back in
> check the lights on the router to see if the power turn solid
-if power light stops blinking then start updating your router's firmware and reconfigure your router
-if power light is still blinking then continue the steps below
   > check if you can get an IP from the router.
-if you can get an IP from the router (the default gateway should be 192.168.1.1) then start updating your router's firmware and reconfigure your router
-if you can't get an IP then assign static ip to your PC. Use Static IP:192.168.1.10, Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0, Default Gateway:192.168.1.1 and just leave the Prefered and Alternate DNS empty.
      > ping the default gateway number. Click start and click RUN. In the RUN box, type CMD and click OK button. There's a black window that will open. Beside the blinking cursor, just type ping 192.168.1.1 and hit enter on the keyboard.
-if you got this on the black window ping statistics- got 4 replies, 0% loss then start updating your router's firmware and reconfigure your router
-if you got this on the black window ping statistics- got 4 replies, 100% loss or media state, media disconnected then that means your router is no longer responding and thus you need to replace it.
How to update your router's firmware?
> access the web page of the router and go to Administration tab and just below that click the Firmware Upgrade sub-tab.
> browse for the firmware you saved in your PC and open it.
> click the Upgrade button.
> if Successful then just close the web page and reset the router for 20sec and just release it after. Turn off the router and wait for another 20sec before plugging it back in.
> check the lights on the router. It should turn solid.

  • My Mac Mini won't start. The Power light blinks continusly (not pulses)

My New Mac Mini won't start up. I bought it online from J&R a week ago. My monitor says "no input detected" and the power light blinks. I recently fed it the gray mac os x install disk one, which it won't give back. Holding the mouse button when it turns on doesn't have any effect. So now i can't put a disk in or start it up.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
No video with the power light blinking once per second means either bad or no memory. See this Apple note: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303083 . Specifically, below is from that note:
If the computer detects no SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, also referred to as RAM) or the RAM installed does not meet the appropriate specifications, the screen will remain black but the power LED on the front of the computer will blink once per second to signal the error. This error condition may be due to physically damaged RAM, installing the incorrect type of RAM, or not having RAM installed.
Has it ever worked since you got it? If not, you should call J&R and tell them they sent a dead on arrival system, and ask for a replacement (ask them to send a will call tag or prepaid label to send the non-working machine back).

  • What do the power light blinking codes mean on cinema display?

I have a cinema display on my G4, and about a year ago or so I had to replace a backlight due to a failure. Tonight I see that the power light is blinking again in a repeatable sequence, and I am wondering where I learn what the sequence is telling me about the nature of the problem?
Power output of the display is reduced again, and I am hoping I do not need yet another backlight repair.

The meaning of the blink codes is not stated in the manual, but in this knowledge base article:

Upon powering on my Mac, the power light begins to flash, the fans kick on and the it seems to lock up.  Screen does not come on.  I have confirmed it has Trickle and Power by checking the diagnostic LED's on the mother board.  No other LED's are lit.  None of the RAM LED's are lit either.  I removed the battery from the motherboard and waited ten minutes, then reinstalled it.  What could the issue be?

  • Toshiba Satellite L505D wont go into sleep mode. Freezes before power light blinks yellow.

When i try to put my laptop into sleep mode by closing the lid, it freezes before it enters sleep mode. i get a black screen when i pick the lid back up, and the power light stays green, instead of blinking yellow like its supposed to. Last time i remember it working properly was around June 6th, i took my laptop to my buddy's place so we could watch the new Halo 4 trailers and i know it worked properly on both the car ride over and the car ride home. anyone have any ideas whats wrong?

    Let's make some experiments.

  • E3000 was unplugged, now when plugged back in, the power light just flashes....HELP!!!

My wi-fi signal in the house was showing an excellent reading, but it wouldnt connect to the internet on any of our devices. We unplugged everything, and then when everything was put back together, the routers power light just flashes, and wont even show an internet connection to the computer. I had to unplug the ethernet cord from the back off the router and plug it into my computer just to get online....what should I be doing?

The power light on your router is flashing. Try to reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and wait for 1 minute. if the power light on the router is solid then try to reconfigure the router.
If the power light is still blinking then try 30/30/30 reset on the router.

  • Power Light Blinks after firmware update to 1.00.17

    I have model # WRT54GX4.
It has worked great, i just wanted to update the firmware.
I updated the firmware from 1.00.15 to 1.00.17 and now the power light just blinks.
Based on what i read it sounds like the firmware needs re-loaded because it could be corrupt on the router now.  It could have been the way that i upgraded.  i was in wireless mode when i did the upgrade thru the web utility, mayby i should have been plugged in.  The other thing is that i use 192.168.1.X range (not 192.168.0.X range), i am not sure if the firmware upgrade changes the ip back to 192.168.1.1, which affected the upgrade.
In either case my power light is blinking.  i also tryed to hold the reset button for 10 seconds, i also tried 30.  After that i plugged directly into the router from the pc using a regular patch cable.  I change the ip on my machine to 192.168.1.8 and the subnet to 255.255.255.0 to match the router.  i am assuming that the router is reset to 192.168.1.1 now that i pressed the reset button.  After doing all this i get a network connection, but i cannot ping 192.168.1.1.
Here is my other question.   To fix the issue i would think that i would have to run the firmware upgrade utility from outside the router, now that the router is not accessible.  But the download page does not have a firmware utility like the other models.  The instructions want you to use the web utility on the router.
    Please help.

    HI,
u can upgrade the router from the "outside" using the tftp utility available at ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/tftp.exe .
however you first have to be able to ping the router....reduce the NIC speed to 10Mbps...assign a static IP to your PC ...reset the router and then try to ping....once the ping is confirmed....you can upgrade the firmware.
and yes the default router IP should now be 192.168.1.1

  • 11-n010dx power light blinking

I have cleaned and reinstalled windows with no problems, but I need to ship this product to someone.  The power light on the side keeps blinking.  I don't want to do any sort of set up since I am giving it to someone.  Is there someway to completely power the machine off?

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. You had mentioned two things that I looked into for you. One was that you have a blinking power light and the other is that you want to know if there is a way to completely power the Notebook off.  Does the computer start without problems?I know you don't want to set it up, but what does the screen look like? Here is a document called Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps. This document gives you Hard Reset options as well as tells you what the blinking light means and any information pertaining to it.  Hope this helps!

  • Linksys EA6500 router power light blinks slowly, not reachable

Hoping somebody can help me with this. I bought a Cisco Linksys EA6500 router a couple of years ago. For various reasons I ended up not actually unboxing it until today. It got left at my mom's place and well, it just didn't get unboxed until today. I connected it, ran the Setup disc and after a little bit of trouble, I got it to work OK. I was using the Admin panel and setting the guest network password etc. Everything seemed great. But then I had the idea to upgrade the Firmware, because I figured the router was a couple of years old, it probably needs a Firmware upgrade. From the admin page I clicked the "Check for upgrades" to the Firmware, but it gave me a red error message "Upgrade server not available" (or something to that effect). I clicked instead on "Manual update" and I had downloaded this file: FW_EA6500v2_1.1.40.166281_prod.img The firmware upgrade process started, there was a progress bar that went for a while, and when that reached the end, I got a spinning wheel animation. This however, never went away. Just spun and spun. I went for a coffee, came back 15 minutes later, it was still spinning and nothing else had happened. I looked at the router itself, and the white CISCO power led on the front of the router is blinking slowly. Kind of fading up and down. I waited another while and then I had waited probably 20 minutes, so I gave up and unplugged the router from the power, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in. Ever since I did this process, it's like completely dead. The CISCO power led is fading up and down. I've tried a 30-30-30 reset. I've connected it to a PC ran the setup program (EA6500v1.2.0.14212.1-Setup.exe). The setup program just reports that it can't reach or find the router. It's like completely broken. I've tried it with two different PC's. None of them can even acknowledge that the router exists. Meanwhile, the power light keeps fading up and down... I only got about 15 minutes use out of my brand new (albeit unboxed for 2 years) EA6500 before, it appears, the Firmware upgrade process completely broke the whole thing. Since my computer doesn't even manage to connect to the router on ANY level, I'm unable to see or change any settings or anything like that. I do have the "reset" button on the back of the router and I've tried it several times (including holding it for over 1 minute), but nothing makes any difference. Sorry about the lengthy post.... I probably could have explained this shorter: Router unresponsive - power LED fading up/down - Setup program does not find router. Anybody able to offer any help?? Thanks in advance.

If you have already tried to use other browsers or computer, try the management mode process.  1st you will need to download the firmware file and teh TFTP software. connect your computer to the modem inorder to have internet access (set your IP to obtain). Download the firmware here: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=148365 TFTP software is available here: http://downloads.linksys.com/downloads/Tftp.exe Reconnect the computer back to the router and set it back to static IP.  Follow this reset process in this link: http://www.linksys.com/ru/support-article?articleNum=140001 If it asks for a firmware, upload the file. If that doesn't work, proceed with TFTP upgrade. This link will help: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=137928 I hope that helps!
