Why is the reminders app so hard to use?

Once again, Apple has thrown common sense out the window and chose aesthetics and 'feeling' over functionality. Why do I have to actually ask this to third party responders, instead of a product I paid for actualy working?
How do you create and edit a new list in reminders? I get to the new list screen, but there are no further buttons or any indication of what the next step is to actually having it say something other than 'New List'. The + button, contrary to what the convential meaning of "add" means, simply displays all my current lists (at this point: one). It doesn't seem to matter where I click, it only brings up the display of my current list. Nothing adds or edits the new list.

Once you tap on New list, it gives you the option to name the list. If you look, you can see the insertion point blinking. Once you select a color and name the list, tap done, and it will bring it up on the screen to start adding reminders.

  • Why has the Reminders app duplicated my iCloud account?

I was quite puzzled to see today that the Reminders app on my Mac has duplicated my iCloud reminders and seems to see them as two separate lists. A single reminder entry appears in both lists and is therefore registered as two reminders in the dock badge. They even appear as separate lists in the 'Default Lists' menu item......screenshots below. Any suggestions? I'm scratching my head on this one!

Does anyone have any thoughts then?

  • Why does the Reminders app crash each time I try to open it on my iPad 2?

At one point, a few weeks ago, I was able to use my Reminders app on my iPad 2, fairly close to perfect. Now, since then, each time I open the app, it freezes or does not allow men to complete reminders or add new ones. If I close the app from Multitasking and try to reopen, it just opens the app but it is blank. What is happening and why does it keep crashing? I like the app to set reminders for upcoming bills but the app seems useless right now until I figure out to make it stop crashing on me. Thank you!

I am having exactly the same problem with my iPhone 4 (running 6.0.1 (10A523)). I have rebooted several times since this started occurring but it doesn't change the behavior. It was also reporting a "storage almost full" error quite often when I still have 1GB - 3GB of free space. As a troubleshooting exercise I removed all my music so there is now 20.1GB free. The storage warning no longer appears but the same issue still persists with reminders. Help, please!

  • Dictation is not working in the reminders app on iPhone 4s IOS6. The microphone is grayed out. How do I re-enable the microphone?

Dictation is not working in the reminders app on iPhone 4s IOS6. The microphone is grayed out. How do I re-enable the microphone?

One day I tried to dictate a note and discovered the microphone was grayed out.  As someone suggested I did a hard reset of my iPhone 4S and that didn't solve the problem.
Then I had an epiphany.  I use the Notes app a lot and have a lot of Notes stored in the app.  I tried deleting some of my many notes and "viola!" the microphone is black again.  My guess is the app has some kind of storage limit and when you hit that limit, the microphone is automatically turned off.  Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
    Hope this helps.

  • So does the Reminders app sync with anything?

Do to do items set in the Reminders app sync with iCal in MobileMe? Or do they sync with iCal in iCloud? Or do they not sync with anything?

I've tried to use iCloud, but it made a mess of all my calendar entries, duplicate entries, new birthday calendar that duplicates birthdays, new useless calendars. A mess. Then, a pearl: I was not able to update my calendar entries on my iPhone.
Contacts were ok. Notes seem working, too.
Then I've logged out from iCloud and had to re-import all of my calendar entries (as the calendar now "pertains to iCloud"), and my observation is that we are not able to sync reminders without using iCloud. There is also the issue that you should look at TWO calendars (one of reminders, the one the calendar) if you want to use it.
I believe Apple needs to add:
    * integration with iCal;
    * ability to work off-line
    * make iCloud bug-free, I do not get why we should have "duplication of entries as-a-feauture" with microsoft-like stupid warnings: "if you click on this you will have two copies of that" ...
    * I do not get also why the info should "pertain to the cloud" and it could not be "several versions that sync" ... in the end also the cloud could be considered a device on his own, and, for the people that have limited access to the internet (as me are now, I'm moving) it makes perfect sense.
    just my 2c
I will not use iCloud until it works as it should, in all its functionality.

  • What's a good replacement for the reminders app?

Hello everyone, thanks for your input.
I've been on the phone with Apple support about this for some time and it seems that this was a core change made in Yosemite and since I "upgraded" to icloud drive, I can't just back to Mavericks and still having things sync via icloud.
The reminders app no longer supports grouping of completed tasks by the day they were completed, and instead just shows a big list of every reminder ever completed in that list. I have to note what proofs and designs  I make on a time sheet at the end of each pay period and to do that I need to know what task was completed what day. Reminders was a very slick way to keep track of both the things that still need doing as well as see what was completed when. Now that I've installed Yosemite the only way to see completed reminders organized by day is to log into the icloud web interface on an OSX or windows computer and I'm concerned that that's not going to be an option for much longer since iOS 8 and Yosemite have both removed it.   It's a small change but its absolutely core to what I do. It's one of those little workflow things that seems inconsequential but has the potential to accumulate and just totally screw up your my Sundays and delay my pay checks if not done right.  All the solutions I'm coming up with, from tally them in an excel sheet to noting them in the calendar app instead of reminders, to just writing them down on postits are all kind of a clumsy, error-prone steps backward to the point that rolling back to Mavericks is looking like the best option (a painful option but at least it's just a 1-time pain)
Before I start the mess of going in and rolling back to Mavericks and all that that entails I just wanted to see what other options are out there? Surely there's a 3'rd party app that does what reminders used to do.
Ideally I just want it to do 3 things
         1. let me add simple reminders from OSX, ipad or iphone
         2. sync them to all the devices.
         3. let me organize the completed reminders by what day they were completed.
    Thanks!

    Wunderlist
I would love to see reminders with better snchronization features... Not just between ios and OSX but also between ical-google cal etc...
A good alternative right now is Wunderlist from the Mac app store.
Pretty much does the same thing..
It has Notification and widget snchronization with Yosemite.
It also syncs between Ical Google Calendar, android and ios....
Reminders needs a lot of work in my opinion.
Wunderlist does what Reminders should be doing.
    It definitely addresses 1, 2
3 is also done... You will have to check it out to see if it does it the way you want....
If its for bussiness I would suggest you use the pro paid version for added functionality.
Free version is however great also.

Reminders is automatically installed with 10.8 or above. A new Mac should have 10.9; it's possible that, with a third-party vendor, you have an earlier OS. Check under the Apple menu in the top left and click About This Mac. That will tell you what version of OS X you have.

  • Why does the Mail.app CC: field puts me first on the CC: list although I was not ?

Why does the Mail.app CC: field always rearranges the list so I am first on the CC: list although the sender intentionally did not ?
I did not see how and where to de-activate this unnecessary intrusion in the company's communication codes.
iOS on my iphone, correctly leaves my name where it is in the CC: list.

    Hi starbux48,
Yahoo! partnered with Apple to allow an IMAP style offering on the iPhone, free of charge for their users. However that feature is only available if you use the iPhone. If you want IMAP/POP access on computers then you'd need to upgrade to the Plus level account.

I accidentally deleted the Reminders only on mac section in the reminders.app on mountain lion. How do I get it back?
I checked @ http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html#reminders and it says under Multi Accounts: "Reminders works with CalDAV services like Google Calendar and Yahoo! Calendar. You can also create reminders that appear only on your Mac."

Quit Safai (double tap the home button, hold the app icon until it wiggles, tap , double tap the home button gain)
Settings > iCloud > Turn off Safari > Delete from phone then turn Safari back on

  • Why does the youtube app doesn't play in HD?

Why does the youtube app doesn't play in HD? I couldn't find any option of changing the stream option also. Please help!

Me too, ipad mini can't get YouTube app to function via the official app and the same error message," ...tap to retry", but to no avail. The app launches but it will not allow me to sign in. The drop arrow just tilts up and down and ...nothing. I can still access YouTube through Safari browser but strange, I can't find a solution to the app not opening or being able to sign in on either ipad mini or phone even though they are up to date apps.

  • Why is the apple app store popping up NSURLErrorDomain error -1100

why is the apple app store popping up NSURLErrorDomain error -1100

Largely due to an overloaded server.   Keep trying, every two hours or so.   I suppose it's all down to when Apple staff turn up for work.     Be patient
I have read that it is pretty much restricted to Mountain Lion.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I delete a list in the Reminders App?

I added a new list in the Reminders app on IOS5 (on my 3GS). The list is listed under my Google Apps account, and the default list is listed under iCloud. Now I want to remove the list i created, but that doesn't seem to be possible.
Does anyone know how you delete lists?
I also don't know where on my Google Apps account the list should appear. If I did, maybe there is where you delete it?

I did that but it doesn't give me the possibilty to delete lists, just add new ones. I tried to add another list so I have two, and now when I tap the Edit button it gives me the possiblity to delete lists, seemingly both ones. But I can only delelete one of them. It's like it's forcing me to keep one list on my Google Apps account. It should be enough to have just the default one on iCloud you would think.
Or is the trick to somehow remove my Apps account from the Reminders app all together? But how do I do that?

  • Can you set each individual task to a separate colour on the reminders app?

I was just wondering if there is a way to change the color of each indiviudal task in a task list to seperate colours on the reminders app.
If there is could you please let me know, thanks

    Hi Prasanna,
I am aware of the character limit. However, that pop up doesn't show up when using the situation as described in my post. I did get the message when I added one resource at a time
and after a while it did tell me I had too much resources on that task. The web version then came with the message:
"The resource list is too long. A resource list that contains more than 256 characters cannot be edited or deleted on the To line of a message. Use the resource information dialog
box to edit long resource names."
However it did not come up in the situation as described above.
    Regarding your suggestions:
    1) Shorter resource names would help for only a short while. Because adding more resources to a single task will again generate the issue. For instance: if I add 30 resources to
a task, with all a character length of 10 I will run in the same issue. Best practices set aside of course, I know that adding 30 resources to a task is bad mojo.
    2) Project Pro cuts the assigning of resources also, with giving the error message similar to the one above. But rather than creating a new local resource, Pro just assigns the
task to 6 out of the 8 resources I have added to the task. Which is better, if only the client worked with Project Professional...
I hope you come up with something during your tests…

  • Does the Reminders app sync with iCloud?

Do the to do items you create in the reminders app syn with iCal and the web calendar through iCloud?

Apparently it did sync only part for me although I have lost some entries within my lists within reminders when attempting to sync my mac and iPhone to iCloud simultaneously, no thanks to apple care.
Apple care set up my iCloud account over the phone and attempted to sync incorrectly resulting in this problem of mine. Since then Apple care have attempted to solve the problem but are not skilled enough to recover my lost entries from out there somewhere so i suggest you back up before syncing just in case you loose data also.
I suggest initially syncing only one device at a time to iCloud and to make sure you merge reminders when prompted.
    Hope this helps.

  • The reminders app in my iPhone and the reminders in Mac are not syncing properly

I use the Reminders app and Notes app extensively to keep track in both my Mac and iPhone. However the reminders app in my phone does not immediately sync when i made changes in my Mac and later when i make a change in my iphone Reminders, it over writes the reminders in Mac. Please help so that my work syncs smoothly from Mac to iPhone and vice versa without any loss of information, just as Apple advertises and takes pride in being able to do so.

There are a couple threads out there with this issue.  I had the same problem. Try this link for the answer...
Re: Reminders not syncing properly with iCloud and iOS 8
At the bottom - one person has the answer...On your iPhone remove your iCloud account.  Then add it back.  It's not as painful as it sounds it only took me less than 5min to add everything back
