Why is the routing to singapore so terrible

So i play a video game called DotA 2, there is an australian server located in sydney but also a south east asia server located in singapore and for west australian's this matters quite a lot since we SHOULD be getting be pings to the south east asia server. My friends do get this benefit because they are on iinet but I'm on telstra and they route the connection all the way to sydney for some reason? This has only just come to my attention because yesterday for about an hour, the telstra line was going straight to singapore but now it is back to going to sydney first which adds ~200ms. I don't really understand why though, doesnt telstra own like 80% of the lines, why are we not being routed directly to singapore. Also what happened yesterday is telstra is now routing our lines directly to inda which is now 170ms instead of ~400ms. my pings: aus ~ 80, sea(tested yesterday) ~ 75, sea(with bad routing) ~250 can we get this fixed or just give an explanation please. in the spoiler is a trace route of the server Tracing route to sgp-1.valve.net [103.28.54.1]

Can you do the same for other games with singapore servers? I play one which is hosted on Amazon Web Services in Singapore which gets routed through Sydney. AWS in Tokyo is routed through Singapore first and thus has less latency than AWS Singapore, which shouldn't be the case. --- edit -- I think they changed the game server changed so its not Amazon anymore, but same problem here is my trace route. 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.0.0.138

• Why is the router sending reverse DNS queries ?

Hi all,
While doing a trace for a traceroute command, i realize that the router is actually doing a reverse DNS query for the ip that I am doing the traceroute.
Although this does not impact my traceroute, I can't help to wonder why the need to do the reverse DNS for ?

• Why does the router consider the VoiceEncapPeer an interface

I have MC3810 and 26xx routers running VOFR and VOIP. My network management stations sees the VoiceEncapPeer and VoiceIPPeer go down and then back up. Are these actual interfaces and what is causing the peer to flap.

If this is what you management station says, then the
only option is someone did a shutdown , no shutdown on the
dial-peer for vofr and voip.
Interface up/down does not affect the admin or operational state
of voice dial-peers.

• Why does the Linksys WRT54G router REQUIRE a hostname when it's never used?

Why does the Linksys WRT54G REQUIRE a hostname when it's never used?
I can't find a single use for the router hostname, yet the Linksys WRT54G version 5 firmware v1.00.6 wireless router REQUIRES a hostname, even though nothing actually uses that hostname.
Why does the router require a hostname (why can't we just leave that field blank)?

This is to report a bug in the "Setup", "Basic Setup"
tab, "Router Name" field
(https://10.2.18.20/basic.htm) in the otherwise
wonderful Linksys WRT54G V5 wireless router (firmware
revision 1.02.0).
As you are aware, a router is a security and privacy
device; as such, it should not require identifying
information if that identifying information is not
needed nor used by the user or their ISP.
Such is the case with the "router name" field.
In the case of the "Unnecessary Router Name
Requirement" bug, I am reporting to you (and to the
associated Linksys forums at forums.linksys.com) the
Router Name field should NOT be required. It should be
an option to leave the Router Name field blank.
The fact that the router name field MUST exist
(whether or not it is actually used or desired), is an
obvious security and privacy flaw in the otherwise
wonderful Linksys WRT54G router. Please fix this bug.
Thank you very much,
D. Hurley

Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router.
I can surf the web. My wife can print from her PC wirelessly on it.
I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro. I've installed the software, firmware and driver updates but
it still shows "off line"
with the printer power on. Any suggestions?

All I can suggest right now is back up first the try to reset the printing system, (all printers in the list will be removed).
Then connect directly to the printer via ethernet or to the Mac using USB and restart the efforts you have made up until now.
As for router settings, it's possible but not likely that your router only allows a small number of clients. It's also posible that you have MAC address filtering on, lastly are you using the correct wireless protocol, (802.11a/b/g WEP or WPA etc)?

Why is the wifi reception on my iPhone 5 so poor. I'm not talking about in my own home with my own router. I'm talking about AT&T hotspots, public hotspots, etc. I can hold my 3GS and my 5 side by side, the 3GS picks up more signals with more strength. The 5 seems to have a weaker wireless network than its predecessors. It's very frustrating because I can be 20 feet from a wireless router, and still only show 2 bars, if I don't end up losing the connection. What gives??

I've done the resets...no real help at all. Im Also on my 2nd iPhone 5. The first was replaced because of a faulty external speaker module. Both phones wifi reception pretty much suck. ESPECIALLY if the case is on. I'll luck out a little bit by taking the case off...but not much.

• Why is the download speed so different to the wireless router?

Apologies if this is not the correct location - newbie, so be gentle with me please!
My question relates to a wireless connection I have established with a Belkin 802.11g 54g wireless router. Airport configured incredibly easily BTW. Anyway, when I look at the router settings by entering the IP addess of the router, it tells me there is a DL data rate of about 3800, which i take to be 3.8gig. Upload is about 450. I am signed up to an "up to 8meg" ISP, so I know 3.8 is probably not that bad.
However, when I run a speed test on the DSL, it gives a performance around half that indicated on the router. Is that normal? The attenuation figure was 51 for DL and 29 for UL if that helps. I wondered if the 802.11g installed was the issue and whether 802.111n would improve this?
The same figures apply even when the router is connected to the main socket in the house rather than 3 floors up.
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.8) 2ghz intel core 2 duo 17 inch 1gb RAM 160GB HD

I'm using gigabit wired internet, with an appropriate network card and router, my firewall is completely disabled (both on my router and my pc) and I don't see why anti-virus should interfere with the download,
What is the general download speed normally received? Would you recommend using the browser download or the download manager?
I'm happy if this is just a "slow day" for adobe server or something, but my internet seems to be 100% fine as several other downloads I have tried have managed to get full speed even while the Adobe download is left running. (I obviously have had these other downloads off the majority of the time the adobe download has been running)
Cheers for the response,
Rob

• Why Is The New Click Wheel TERRIBLE?

What happened to the flawless design of the click wheel on all previous ipod models.
The new click wheel on the iPod classic is absolutely terrible. It is unresponsive, highly unsensitive, slow and works maybe half the time especially when scrolling counterclockwise.
APPLE, Why the sudden change? I can't even control it through my jeans anymore.
Before you ask any questions, no I am not using any case, my iPod is naked and brand new. Any other iPod I have owned was super responsive and had perfect click wheel sensitivity and worked through my jeans or any case it was in.
I am very unhappy with the new click wheel. Who else is with me?

Well, if it is a defect, which I think it is, it is very common. I'm on my third 120 GB classic. First one had a buku of issues with skipping songs, shutting itself off etc., but the click-wheel was flawless.
Sent that one back to apple, received replacement which had same skipping and restart issues with the added joy of the click-wheel laziness you are describing. Sent that one back, got third unit yesterday, also installed new version of software. Skipping issues and restarts seem to have gone away, but having problems with this click wheel. I'm giving it a couple weeks, and I'll send this one back too. When listening to music, it's not that big of a deal when the wheel goes to sleep and I've got to click it back into action, but while trying to play games it becomes very problematic and unacceptable.
I bought my first ipod second hand and loved it. This is my first new iPod, and it's killing me with aggravation. I have heard before that you should wait until 90 days after any apple release so they can work the bugs out. Seems to hold very true with this experience.

• Why do the connected devices to the router have the smae IPV6 address?

Hi,
Now I meet the issue
The operation steps on router (WRVS4400N):
1.Set the IP mode as Dual-stack IP and then save
2.Disable the IPV4 DHCP server
3.Use other deivces to connect the router.
The connected devices have the same IP address(2005:123:456:789::1),I am confused, why is it?
please help.
Thanks!

Hello,
The WRVS4400N is in fact assigning IPv6 addresses to all the devices connected to it, but the WRVS4400N does not show a table with the IPv6 addresses assigned to each device connected, it only shows the IPv4 addresses and the respective MAC address for each device. The IPv6 of the WRVS4400N is an aggregetable global unicast IPv6 address (See the image below)
If you go to Setup > LAN you will see that you cannot modify the prefix of the IPv6 address, all you can modify is the postifx and prefix length field (As you can see in the image below).
For more information about these fields and general IPv6 configuration, please refer to the article IPv6 Configuration on WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Routers
The only way you have to see the IPv6 address assigned to each device connected to the WRVS4400N is to check on each device the IPv6 address assigned. The WRVS4400N does not provide this information. You can see from the below picture the IPv6 address assigned to my computer. As you can see, the WRVS4400N assign the the computer the prefix 2002:c0a8::/6. Then you can see the actual IPv6 address which is 2002:c0a8:0:b182:e6a:9b0e:cdcf.
As you can see, the initial part (The prefix) remains the same, since these are the first 64 bits of the whole IPv6 address. The other 64 bits of the IPv6 address represents the interface ID, that is, the device that is connected to the WRVS4400N.
I hope you find this information helpful. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

• Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Why does my router disconnect every time I sleep the computer? Why did this only start to happen recently?

Actually it does with Ethernet too: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2412?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What happens when the Mac goes to sleep (not just into idle mode or display sleep)?
On all Macs:
The microprocessor goes into a low-power mode
Video output is turned off, and a connected display may turn off or enter its own idle state
Apple-supplied hard disks spin down; third-party hard disks may spin down
On portable Macs:
The Ethernet port turns off, if applicable (see note below)
Expansion card slots turn off
The built-in modem, if present, turns off (see note below)
An AirPort card, if present, turns off (see note below)
The USB ports only responds to the power key on an external keyboard (see below)
The optical media drive, if present, spins down
Audio input and output turns off
Keyboard illumination, if a feature of your portable computer, turns off
But see the note about selecting, "Wake For Network Access" in Energy Saver preferences.
Note: Portable computers have no network connectivity when in sleep mode, but can wake if the Energy Saver option "Wake for network access" is enabled. If you wish to use file sharing or don't want to interrupt your Internet connection, you should not manually put the computer to sleep, and you should drag the "Computer sleep" slider to Never.

If you have connected to other wi-fi successfully, then your wi-fi should be working. Try power cycling the router. Disconnect it from power for about 30 seconds and then restart it. After it has come back, try connecting again.

• Why did the setting for my Linksys WRT54G router change spontaneously from encrypted to open mode?

I unplugged power to my Linksys WRT54G (802.11g) router for about six days. It had been set for WEP 128-bit encryption. When I replugged it, it identified itself as an open (non-encrypted) network. I could use it by setting up a new network connection (unencrypted) on my PC, but could not access it using the original (encrypted) PC network connection.
After reinstalling the router, and setting it for WEP 128-bit encryption, it works fine again.
Can anyone explain why the router spontaneously went from encrypted to non-encrypted mode, as a result of being powered down for several days? (Is this a bug or a feature?

Thank you. As noted, I reconfigured it & it works fine again. But do you have any idea why it "lost" its encryption setting by being powered-down?
In particular, is this likely to happen in future if I power-down Linksys?

Hi Judy,
I could not reproduce your issue. Is your Project Server patched with the latest SP and CU?
Also can you reproduce this unexpected behavior with another project?
Can you split your screen from the resource usage view, display the resource form and click right on the grey part selecting "schedule"? Then you'll have the scheduled start and finish dates for the resource's assignments. This is to be sure that
you are not missing any parts of the assignments due to a wrong zoom in the timephased grid.
